Redskins Up by FG after 1 Quarter
The Redskins opened the home portion of the schedule by receiving the ball -- and immediately going three-and-out. But after the defense forced St. Louis off the field -- rookie linebacker-defensive end Brian Orakpo deflected Marc Bulger's third-down pass -- the offense posted its best drive of the young season.
Tight end Chris Cooley served as Jason Campbell's main target, catching the first two passes of the possession and totaling four catches for 40 yards on the drive. Clinton Portis had gains of 12 and 11 yards, and the Redskins got six first downs to drive from their own 14 all the way to the Rams' 8. From there, though, the drive stalled, and on third-and-goal from the 3, Devin Thomas couldn't haul in Campbell's pass, and the Redskins had to settle for Shaun Suisham's 21-yard field goal.
On the Rams' second possession, the Redskins looked like they had an early game-changing play when linebacker Rocky McIntosh forced tight end Randy McMichael to fumble deep in St. Louis territory. But Orakpo was called for roughing the passer, and the Rams retained possession.

Posted by: rickyroge | September 20, 2009 1:51 PM | Report abuse
Clegg, that was really meant for Beantown but I didn't want to call him out. I left that to TE.

Wow, Sellers drops an easy TD
Posted by: frediefritz | September 20, 2009 1:52 PM | Report abuse
Yep. I was right. They are keeping the Rams in the game. Why do I have a feeling that the Rams will score a TD on the next drive?
Posted by: jiacinto | September 20, 2009 1:52 PM | Report abuse
compressed backfield.. LBs and DBs together.. And a QB without a quick release... equals poor red zone stats.
Posted by: SkinsneedaGM | September 20, 2009 1:52 PM | Report abuse
Jesus...0/2 in the red zone?!?! Come on!
Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | September 20, 2009 1:53 PM | Report abuse
sellers should have caught that ball, i mean, he did just sign a contract extension, and he could have easily scored
Posted by: BMACattack | September 20, 2009 1:53 PM | Report abuse
Why doesn't Zorn trust his players. Zorn is going to mess around and loose his job on this game right here....You've got three receivers over 6 feet and you throw to a guy 5'8"
INEXPLICABLE!!!
Posted by: rickyroge | September 20, 2009 1:53 PM | Report abuse
Hey, mush for brains. You were up here last night saying we need to score 24 points. So, that means we have to get a FG, doesn't it?

there was also holding on db 24, and the refs were tricked by a crafty veteran and said there was so foul for intentional grounding...maybe if you paid the refs millions of dollars they wouldnt be so stupid

This game shouldn't even be this damn close. Dropping easy damn pases. Come on!!! That is not on JC. Twice players drop the ball
Posted by: jm220 | September 20, 2009 1:54 PM | Report abuse
D is going to have to score!!! 3 self destructive plays...... DT dropped TD pass, Sellers Dropped TD pass and Orakpo roughing the passer!!!!!! This is how this team loses games... Keep any team around in the NFL and they can win!

WHY IS OUR SECONDARY SO AWFUL?!?!?
Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | September 20, 2009 2:04 PM | Report abuse
Why does this happen every weekend? Can't the team actually once do something right? I think I'd be happier as a Detroit Lions fan.
Posted by: jiacinto | September 20, 2009 2:05 PM | Report abuse
The ruling that there is no penalty for pass interference since the ball was not catchable has never made any sense to me.
It should not be the QB's responsibility to figure out whether his receiver is covered legally or illegally. If a receiver is covered then the QB should not throw it to him, period.
It makes absolutely no sense that a defender can illegally interfere with a receiver thus causing the QB to throw it away.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

HOW CAN THE AWFUL RAMS SCORE A TOUCHDOWN IN 1 TRY AND WE CAN'T IN 2 TRIES?!?!?

and that's how you score in the red zone
Posted by: noonefromtampa | September 20, 2009 2:06 PM | Report abuse
At least the Lions are still winning their games and the Rams just scored a touchdown. Here we go again: The Redskins are giving a game away that they should win.
