Yeah I agree, it would be most ridiculous to deactivate him. IF shanahan doesn't want to start him he could at least play him, why deactivation? Sounds too ludicrous, even regarding Shanny/Haynesy

Lavar has really impressed me with his new blog and his presence on this little program.

LA is more insightful by a mile than Reid, and really, any other hack the Post has covering the beat.

I will never watch another of these if Reid is on it, he's that bad IMO....but nice work LA...

Anyone notice that the only one who called the IR was LA?

Also, who is this dude moderating the panel.....

Speak of the doosh bag. Arrington will be a regular source of "knowImSayin's" and "KeepinItReal's" to go along with a steady diet of "AwMan's" and "ImFeelinYou's".

In the immortal words of Judge Smails, "Top notch, TOP NOTCH!!"

I'm so sure Haynesworth would be deactivated. Right.

Scenario: Haynesworth is deactivated. Kemoeatu gets hurt. Who steps in at NT? Howard Green? Green is active over Haynesworth?

You again. Ugh.

You are mostly wrong (as usual) about LaVar.

It was Dan Snyder that was "wearing out" the coaches, which was why LaVar had to play with a new one virtually every year and start from scratch to figure out how the best player on defense (which he basically was along with Champ) was going to fit into a new regime with new expectations.

Even so, the stretch of LaVar's career from 2001-2003 - when he was healthy and coming into his prime - was as dominant/comparable to any 3 year stretch of any other NFL linebacker's career in the last dozen or so years. Sure, you might find some LBs with more sacks...but not as many tackles. You might find some LBs with more tackles...but not as many plays that create TOs or sacks. That's why he made 3 consecutive Pro Bowls.

The only thing LaVar is a "clone" to AH in is that when he's healthy and motivated, he was the most dominant defensive player on the field. Otherwise, I can;t recall him signing a $21 mill bonus and then demanding to be traded. In fact, I recall him doing precisely the kind of honorable thing that AH did not - gave back money to the organization to accomodate a release from the team when things got ugly, and Grilliams decided to play out Danny-boy's grudge against Lavar by benching him in the hopes it might curry favor with the owner when it was time to evaluate him as HC post-Gibbs (it did not.)

If you want to fault the guy; fault him for trusting the Potson Brothers who did a real number with his contract negotiations and got a nice little license suspension from the NFL for all their troubles.

Fault him for listening to Redskins medical trainers who mishandled his injury that kept him sidelined and in need of more surgery.

For a guy who didn't know any schemes he sure beat the living crap out of the guys he played against on the field, and I'm sure that O-coordinators were delighted to see Warrick Holdman (and all his vast knowledge of the schemes) provide 2 tackles a game while LaVar stood on the sideline.

The only disappointment is your lame assessment of LaVar as a football player and Redskin.

Calling it misdirection assumes that the info actually legitimately came from someone in Ashburn.

I'm more inclined to say this is Jasno stirring the pot.

Also, jingling your keys confuses Wade Phillips.

Posted by: freakzilla | September 1, 2010 4:42 PM | Report abuse

The pay:

"Kelly will be paid $470,000 in base salary this season. On April 1, he received a $391,000 bonus for total 2010 compensation of $861,000. By the end of this season, the Redskins will have paid Kelly a total of almost $3.2 million."

The production:

Receptions 28

Comes out to: $114,285 per catch

That's good work.

If you can get it.

It's not even a smokescreen.

It's JaLa making stuff up trying desperately to get in on one last piece of the AH-drama before the preseason ends.

I mean Kyle said that McNabb would be practicing next week, but what does he know?

Posted by: iH8dallas | September 1, 2010 4:53 PM | Report abuse

Now that everything has calmed down, Shanny is going to bench/deactivate AH for week 1 when things really count? Don't bet on it. Just about as likely as McNabb's ankle keeping him out week 1.

Posted by: beep-beep | September 1, 2010 4:57 PM | Report abuse

Lavar never quite lived up to the hype, much of it self-generated -- and that became an impediment. But for many years along with Champ he was one of the best players the Redskins had.

The team circa 2000 led by Brad Johnson and whipped into shape by Marty, could have made it to the Super Bowl.

Posted by: Pepper5 | September 1, 2010 4:57 PM | Report abuse

Right after training camp began, LaCanfora also said, and I quote, "Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly likely won't even make the team...".

I'd agree that there was a ver slim chance BOTH would be cut, but saying it's likely that they BOTH would not make the team is a bunch of stinky BS.

I don't buy what LaCanfora is selling with his newest report on Haynesworth, either.

Posted by: --swb | September 1, 2010 4:58 PM | Report abuse

Why would Shanahan even be considering deactivating Haynesworth for Week 1 on Sept 1 when he has another pre season game to look at him? Even if it made sense and it was a possibility he were weighing in his mind, the last person who would know would be LaCanfora. If it's just JLC stirring th pot, doesn't that take a little chunk out of his credibility? None of it adds up.

Co-sign. Lavar balled when he was on the field... the videotape don't lie!

Funny that some of the same people that bash Lavar for supposedly free-lancing, aren't willing to give him credit for changing games with crushing hits and collecting turnovers.

I prefer guys who are willing to take a few risks like Lavar (and I'll ever throw DeAngelo in here), and succeed in taking the ball away from the other team.

Over the past few years, we've seen a no-risk, no-reward defense. But hey, they were top 10 statistically.

Posted by: Alan4 | September 1, 2010 5:02 PM | Report abuse

funny stuff on Albert. The issue isn't whether Albert starts, its how much he plays. He'll be out there 30-40 plays, which is exactly what he's good for.

Would anyone be surprised if AH is inactive for week 1?

After all AH:
1. took 21 mil and told MS that he was onboard
2. Failed to show up to OTAs and demanded a trade.
3. Showed up to camp out of shape
4. Took 2 weeks to pass a conditioning test
5. Came up with BS excuses to miss practice. Reports are that he practiced a total of 5 times
6. Doesn't know the D.
7. Criticized MS about playing in the 3rd Qtr of the Ravens game. "9 yr vets don’t play in the 3rd Qtr", meanwhile he was lined up right beside Phillip Daniels.
8. Freelances as evident by LT's long run right in AH's gap Friday night.
9. Has been PAID, been a malcontent, and a distraction.
10. MS is sending a message.

The only problem I see is that this isn't a punishment this would be a reward for AH.

I would be. You have to put your best players on the field and he is one of our best players. Now, if during the game he starts to free lance, looks sluggish or is ineffective, you take him out, but you certainly don't make him inactive.

You want to punish him, make him run extra wind sprints at the end of practice or prohibit him from getting seconds in the buffet line.

having AH inactive for week one... doesn't pass the nonsense test at this juncture.

So, if its true, there is a LOT we don't know about what Haslett plans to do with the defense.

I think there is a lot of Media War 2010 skirmishing going on wrt the redskins after Wise fired his ill advised volley.

True, If he balls out his trade value would increase and his contact is already very tradable, but it does nothing financially for AH.

BTW, I'm not in favor of AH being inactive for week 1. If the devil himself could put a uniform on and help us beat the cowboys, I'd be all for it. I'm just thinking that maybe MS is looking beyond Sept 12 if he decides to make AH inactive.
