Reed Doughty Expresses His Thoughts

Safety Reed Doughty, who has replaced Sean the past two weeks while he was injured and will likely now do so at least the rest of this season, is meeting the media right now, the first player to speak since Sean's passing.

Reed was a late round draft pick in 2006 who has earned respect for his development.

Doughty said of his last conversation with Sean, before the team left for Tampa Saturday:

"He offered a lot of words of encouragement and told me to play my best. He always believed in me."

Reed said the wound is still fresh and players have not yet begin to share stories and memories of Sean.

"it's a little premature for that right now. The shock of it is the hardest part."

As for the grieving process, Reed said:

"You just take it an hour at a time right now."

The session lasted maybe a few minutes, as Reed began to break down, and was ushered out of the room. You have to respect his courage talking about this in front of a room full of cameras and microphones, filled with largely strangers as the scope of this brings in national media and those outside of the normal beat guys.

Another overwhelmingly somber experience on what will be a day full of them I imagine.
