Report from the Practice Field

Jason La Canfora reports from the field:

London Fletcher, Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs and Chris Samuels are not practicing; Fletcher and Washington are not on the field.

Clinton Portis has a helmet, but is not wearing it much and does not appear to be practicing. Pete Kendall is getting his usual Wednesday off. Kedric Golston is back in practice. Alfred Fincher is not on the field.

Whats the word on Springs' chances of playing?

Posted by: The_Doc | December 3, 2008 1:48 PM | Report abuse

Springs never misses an NFC East game.

I miss Leigh Torrence.

Posted by: TheTruth11 | December 3, 2008 1:51 PM | Report abuse

From the prev. post:

curz, thanks. Little smaller than I'd like, and seems injury prone, but under a 4.7 40 sounds great.

Red, you're not an idiot, Norv had his greatest success's, as an OC, you could make an arguement that he's darn near brilliant. That being said, the chances that he'd be willing to work for Snyder are probably mute, moot, and none

Fox News is reporting that the DA does not anticipate any charges aginast Antonio Pierce...how, I have no idea?

Posted by: BeantownGreg | December 3, 2008 1:54 PM | Report abuse

+++I think him and Zorn working together on calling plays on offense and coaching up Campbell isn't a bad idea.

Bring on all the "your a idiot" and "thats a stupid idea" post.

Posted by: RedDMV +++

Nope, no "your an idiot" post from me.

But first, I think SD is keeping Noval for another year. The only thing I can figure about him is he must hire an illegal video taper like Bellichick. Only, HIS Guy tapes the owner with a hot lady. How DOES this guy last?

I can't see Zorn giving up the offensive reins. I think he has to either improve, or someone has to paint his house jobwise. (I'm reading a book about Hoffa's top hit man, and the term they used for a hit was to "paint somebody's house." But I digress, blaming the caffeine.)

Maybe Zorn needs to install his own running game, or at LEAST install the better parts of Gibbs 2.0.

Um, will somebody ask Mike Sellers if he really weighs 245 now?

The Redskins,.com roster has now started listing him at a svelte 245, instead of the traditional 286.

Madelyn Hedgecock of the hated Gints goes 270 or so, and Sellers has to keep up with the big boys.

Posted by: TheCork | December 3, 2008 1:58 PM | Report abuse

I may have to go buy season tickets just to be able to cancel them if they bring norv within a mile of Redskins park.

Posted by: daggar | December 3, 2008 1:59 PM | Report abuse

I don't get how Norv keeps getting HC jobs.

Here is an interesting factoid about him from Wiki that we don't mention: He was released during the 2000 season of the Washington Redskins on December 4, 2000 following a 9–7 loss to the New York Giants where this dropped them to 7–6 on the year despite starting off with a 6–2 record, leaving Turner with the distinction of being the only NFL head coach in the post-merger era to be fired midway through a season with a winning record.

Sounds like what we are doing this year....

Anyway his career record as a HC is 69-87-1 .442

Posted by: alex35332 | December 3, 2008 2:01 PM | Report abuse

I can find almost nothing good to say about Norv. He dissed Darrell Green, lost plenty of games for the Skins with his coaching. Wasn't any better in Oakland (but who is). And importantly, he refuses to play Darren Sproles at RB, even though LT is clearly not LT (Sproles is on my FF team ...)

your an idiot

thats a stupid idea

Posted by: TheTruth11 | December 3, 2008 2:02 PM | Report abuse

anyone know anything about these two free agents?

Stacey Andrews, Bengals O-lineman

Brandon McKinney, Ravens D-line. both are free agents and relatively young. Maybe one of you guys out there knows if they'd help our lines and I think they'd be a lot cheaper than Haynesworth etc..

Posted by: lsskinsfan | December 3, 2008 2:04 PM | Report abuse

I hope Clinton Portis is not ONLY wearing his helmet.

Posted by: REDneckSKINhead | December 3, 2008 2:04 PM | Report abuse

Do you think that Sellers could leap frightened DBs in a single bound if he were 260+?

Posted by: daggar | December 3, 2008 2:04 PM | Report abuse

whoops. I read it wrong. I'm dumb

Posted by: REDneckSKINhead | December 3, 2008 2:05 PM | Report abuse

Agree Dik, and I think that that person should be Zorn. He will call out players, especially the rookies when they make a mistake then he needs to call himself out on the play calling and schemes.

He should also take responsibilities for the rookie WRs not being up to speed. I can blame the rookies for not being ready at camp, but if they still are not "getting it" at this point, then that is on the coaches.

And if he needs to scale down the plays because the offense is struggling, then again it's about the coaches. And as he is the HC, he needs to step up and claim that "buck"!

Posted by: Curzon417 | December 3, 2008 12:44 PM

I don't cotton to this kind of thinking. Seems like repeated calls to the ex-girlfriend demanding an explanation of "why?" It's over. Get over it. Its was the Giants, the current best in the NFC. The Skins defense is badly injured. Get over it. Four more games. Every one is critical (esp. that last one against what appears to be a resurgent 49ers). Time to move on. Move forward. December ball!

***FFL POST***

I just noticed the past day or so that even though our season was over, I am still playing a game this week, is this because Dorf and I are tied?

"Clinton Portis has a helmet, but is not wearing it much and does not appear to be practicing."

You see, he can't wear his helmet ... he needs to use it to cover his privates.

Alex -- you're in the 'it don't matter' bracket. Everyone plays for the next 2 weeks, guess we'll be seeded 1-16 by the end of it

lsskins, I think we touched on this subject about 3 posts ago.

Andrews has some upside, however McKinley seems like JAG(just a guy), he was inactive the last game for the Ravens, and this is his third year.

Posted by: BeantownGreg | December 3, 2008 2:11 PM | Report abuse

Say YES to "No Norval."

We already have an offensive coordinator. His name is Jim Zorn. We just need a deputy head coach.

Posted by: dcsween | December 3, 2008 2:12 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: dcsween

If it was just the giants, then maybe I could agree with you, but this has been the case since the Rams game. Seems to me like the defenses know just what play is being called. Poor game planning and game calling. Not adjusting to defenses.

(haven't had a gf in over 24 years, so I could be wrong...)

Posted by: dlhaze1 | December 3, 2008 2:13 PM | Report abuse

Whatever happened to Jim Molinaro? I remember he was a draft choice by the Skins a while back. Then he went to play with Dallas, but he doesn't appear on their roster anymore. It wasn't that long ago they he was drafted (maybe even in the first draft of Gibbs 2.0?). I can't find him on the NFL site anywhere (except as having been drafted by the Skins).

Posted by: dcsween | December 3, 2008 2:08 PM |

Seems to me more like throwing the red flag for the referee to review a bad call. Zorn's got it wrong when he blames the rookies. It's too late in the season for that. We all have the tapes and can see the problems on the sidelines -- a dull, lackluster offense and predictable playcalling. Even the ex-girl friend can see it.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | December 3, 2008 2:18 PM | Report abuse

And if he needs to scale down the plays because the offense is struggling, then again it's about the coaches.

That's the same argument about dumbing down the class to the slowest learner. The bright pupils get bored and frustrated, and the overall result is mediocrity, which is why I hate the phrase, "Stay medium,"

lsskins, I think we touched on this subject about 3 posts ago.
Yes Bean, I know. I was hoping others have joined in that know more about those two.

Just don't let any of that salt touch him ... wouldn't want to re-injure anything.

Curzon, at 7-4 with four games to go, I think self-flagellation by the team is premature and unnecessary. Instead of licking wounds, they should be preparing to fight! (like wounded animals if necessary).

Back after a long time.... still see some familiar names now and again ...i have read once in awhile but not posted needed to reregister ...someone out there is using my name... anyhow i'll check in from time to time....

our struggles on o are nothing new have not been a good offensive team since norv when we had a million other problems....

need better younger lines both d and o ....
QB and coach (my big thing) seem to be keepers for now, always need to be patient with a young coach and Qb but I generally like what i see so far.... but playmakers thats another story ... need to have a few guys on your team that people need to game plan for and a guy or two on your team that if the other teams loads up to take away say Moss/Cooooley makes them pay... we lack those guys, same story on d ... need some from seven impact guys....

He was a sixth round pick by the 'Skins. Played with them for two seasons. Then he was out of football for a year before joining the Cowboys. He was on their roster for a year but has been looking for work. May be trying out as a punter in Green Bay today.

Posted by: daggar | December 3, 2008 2:26 PM | Report abuse

sween, that is correct. I was responding to Dik's post on that, however, if Zorn is a leader he would accept the blame instead of dishing it out (in public).

(and it's 7-5)

One very pointless thing that made me very happy the last game was when Boschetti ended up with the ball on a kickoff and just took a knee, just wanted to say with out sarcasm that was a great move by him I hope we keep him around. I hate seeing those big lugs attempting to run with the ball in their hands.
Give Boschetti the least impact gameball.

Posted by: dcsween | December 3, 2008 2:29 PM | Report abuse

You want your nits back then Sween?

Posted by: Redcoat | December 3, 2008 2:30 PM | Report abuse

People need to stop blaming JC. look how bad we made the Cowboys look in Dallas when we pressed and doubled T.O., he really had no where else to go. now that they have Roy Williams you cant double T.O. as much because that leaves you open. Same for the skins we have no one to take the double coverage of off Moss. Until we get someone that will scare some DB's or safeties they will continue to double Moss and Cooley

Posted by: GreatOne1 | December 3, 2008 2:31 PM | Report abuse

Stu27, you do remember how Boschetti got penalized for the two handed fair catch call. The League cannot abide two handed fair catching and it must be penalized.

Two armed wave indicates injured man on the field. They have to penalize that when done incorrectly ... otherwise, the guys with the stretcher would be running into guys trying to make a fair catch.

Posted by: dcsween | December 3, 2008 2:32 PM | Report abuse

Did you get a side order of 'flippant' with your lunch today Mr. Sir Sween?

Posted by: Redcoat | December 3, 2008 2:34 PM | Report abuse

RC, no, but thanks, you can keep those ... I'm so covered with nits that now I'm getting downright snippy. If you wanted, you might be able to work out a nit-bonus point swap with BTGreg.

Posted by: dcsween | December 3, 2008 2:36 PM | Report abuse

On that Boschetti fielding of a kickoff, I thought he got a raw deal on that penalty for illegal signaling of a fair catch. I didn't think he was signaling a fair catch. I thought he was motioning for the rest of our players to get away from him, like you would when fielding a fly ball in baseball.

Anyone know the specifics of how that rule breaks down?

Posted by: freakzilla | December 3, 2008 2:36 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: dcsween | December 3, 2008 2:37 PM | Report abuse

sorry...you can purchase the freight with some of the bonus points.....

Posted by: CindyBoren | December 3, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

Seems there are a lot of misconceptions about bonus points in here and I'd be happy to clear them up.

For example, there are rules and regulations regarding redemption of bonus points for international air travel that differ from domestic air travel that are different for travel if it includes a flight into or out of Florida.

Posted by: zcezcest1 | December 3, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

Greg, at the top of this page Cadillac are offering 100 free GM shares and up to $20M off the price of an Escalade, maybe you could contact them and see if you can throw your bonus points into the mix too?

That might be enough to get them up to 3 units shipped per year (...)

We are tied at a 5-8, consider the game the equivalent of an epic battle between the 49rs and the Chargers.

Posted by: alex35332 | December 3, 2008 2:57 PM | Report abuse

The elephant in the corner...that's called the Rams game. Sorry, I had to go there...

Sooner or later Coach Zorn (and everyone else) will realize there are two choices:

1) keep hammering the square peg of Jason Campbell into the round hole of our offense until Mr. Snyder says,"So sorry Jim, it's been real."

or

2) admit he's been too loyal to ol JC and put ANYONE under center who;

a) can actually release the ball within 7 seconds of the time it is snapped on a consistant basis,

b) knows where to place a pass (which shoulder to put the ball over, where to place a throw pass heightwise to keep it away from defenders, etc.),

and

c) has any semblance of knowing not every pass has to be rifled at someone.

It's okay, if Coach Zorn wants to be such a nice guy that he gets replaced I'm sure there are many other coaches available.

If he keeps sticking with Campbell we'll probably be able to land Jim Fassel to replace him.

I just hope Coach Zorn makes a move before it's too late. I'd rather not have the team commit millions MORE cap dollars in the HOPE that Campbell MIGHT improve to average or better SOMEDAY.

HELL TO THE NO!! The season is not over they have played way beyond any of the so called experts and pundits expectations the Skins were picked to finish last, end of story by almost everyone, aging O line,no pass rush,a new coach with a new system, an owner and a gm with no.... well lets not go there but you get my drift,so let the season play itself out don't push the panic button!
