Report: Rinehart arrested for public intoxication

(Updated at 4:44 p.m.)

Redskins offensive lineman Chad Rinehart, who finished his second season in the league on injured reserve, was arrested outside a bar in his home state of Iowa, according to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

An officer with the police department at the University of Northern Iowa, Rinehart's alma mater, arrested Rinehart early Monday for public intoxication. According to the paper, the officer noticed Rinehart attempting to order pizza at about 2 a.m. The officer said Rinehart had alcohol on his breath, bloodshot eyes and was swaying.

Rinehart was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail and released only hours later. He is due for arraignment in February.

"We are aware of this incident but have no further comment," the Redskins said in a statement released by the team.

Rinehart, a third-round draft pick in 2008, played in and started four games at guard in 2009. He broke his leg during a Nov. 22 loss at Dallas, ending his season.

Rhino, I cant believe these thuggish athletes, they never learn. Until he can drop his past and stop associating with all the bad influences that have been ingrained into his life so far he will continue to head down the same self destructive past. Get out of the N. Iowa hoods, stop hanging out on the same block with your old gang. Its time to grow up and take responsibility for your actions.

Rinehart suffered a fractured fibula in the third quarter and was carted off the field.

So, if he was in a cast, typically that's like seven weeks, right? A little bit of painkillers + just got his cast removed + a beer or two... sounds like a job for Patton, Boggs, Winkleman, Winkleman, Winkleman, Winkleman, Winkleman, Winkleman, Winkleman, Winkleman, Turner, and Smith.

But if it's truly the case that he was arrested only for being drunk and warbling out a pizza order, I'm sure as heck not going to Iowa. For me, that's called "being sober".

Arrested for public intoxication? Am I missing something? Had he been behind the wheel? Why waste the taxpayer money on this or the public's time. How many of us have never been guilty of this? The liars may raise their hands now. This is a complete waste of blog space.

Jason- How about a real story now.

Wow, sorry I missed out on most of this thread...I have the dubious distinction of spending my formative years (age 0-24) as a resident of the state of Iowa, and I can confirm that "drinking" is indeed the #1 recreational activity for most young people, especially in the winter months. I staggered around the UNI campus on at least a couple of visits there and never had any trouble with Johnny Law, but I wasn't as conspicuous (i.e. large) as Mr. Rhinehart, either.

Actually Rinehart doesn't fit Shanahan's system.

He may not be a 325 road grader but Rinehart is slow footed and isn't quick off the ball.

There is a reason he came into the NFL as a tackle and was quickly moved to guard.

It appears Mel Kiper was right when he said that Rinehart was a #6 draft pick to him and that the Redskins were blowing the pick on him in Round 3.

I remember him saying that at the time too, not just in hindsight.

Remember that he said he was surprised anyone would move up so quickly in the draft to select a college tackle that had no future at the position in the NFL and would have to move inside to guard.

Jason Reid please stop reporting this non sense who the hecht cares about Rhinehart getting locked up for drinking ? Its not news pertinent to the Redskins !!!!!!!!!!

He's gone.. He does Palates in the carribean..
Its his off season conditioning..

If I was in his position, starting QB of a 4-12 NFL team, and getting paid millions per year, I would be at Redskins Park busting my ass physically and mentally. And getting to know Shanny and picking braintrust apart.
But I must be old school.. Today's current player views his weekly paycheck as just that.. I only get paid for 16 weeks (not even paid for preseason) so I dont work the other 36 weeks.. Even though the 16 weekly payments are in the millions..

Campbell's got a life. What he doesn't have is a job. So what's the best way to get one? Fly off to the Virgin Islands or meet the new boss, shake his hand, tell him you're happy to be working for him, ask him how you can do a better job, then you leave town? Probably takes two days.

WELL IT'S ALREADY HAPPENING! SHANAHAN HAS BROUGHT HIS LOSERS ATTITUDE WITH HIM. HE HAD FELONS AND MISFITS ON HIS BRONCO'S TEAMS AND RINEHART IS FITTING IN. HELL, MOST OF THE BRONCO'S PLAYERS WERE ARRESTED FOR THIS AND THAT AND HE HAD MORE FELONS ON HIS TEAMS THAN ANY OTHER TEAM. HE WAS FIRED BECAUSE HE DID NOT GO FOR CHARACTER GUYS AND WENT FOR WHOEVER FIT HIS NEEDS. THE SKINS HAVE BECOME THE BRONCOS AND IT DOESN'T BODE WELL FOR THE REDSKIN ETHIC!

If a cop arrested me, I'd say "Can we wait til my pizza is ready and can I bring it to the station?"

He didn't drink and drive, which is the most important thing.

No sign of wife beating, gun possession, or being disrespectful to cop.

Let a brotha' eat some pizza when he's drunk.

If ordering pizza drunk at 2AM is a crime, we'd better just go ahead and convert all colleges to jails.

Then we could just have a set of magistrates go around in the MaddenCruiser on to save some time and money in prosecuting this heinous crime.

Of course, isn't just voluntarily being IN Iowa probable cause...?

The cop wanted a bite of Rineharts pizza and Chad told him to F-off! Anyone knows when a man is having a beer and gets hungry that you do not mess with his pizza! Dumb-ass Cheech and Chong cop!

"If ordering pizza drunk at 2AM is a crime, we'd better just go ahead and convert all colleges to jails."

Well said, ThinkingMan! This shouldn't be a crime. Think of how many drunk drivers must have passed by while that cop was working the pizza parlor beat.

Once again, this isn't a real crime. I don't care if Rinehart drinks beer and eats pizza every night as long as he doesn't harm anyone and he's ready to play on Sundays. (That last part, admittedly, has been lacking the past 2 seasons. haha)

Posted by: drischord | January 19, 2010 10:05 PM | Report abuse

Big Deal, he was drunk at 2 am, not driving, wasnt during the season and wanted some damn pizza. When is it against the law to be drunk in public? Oh wait. Also this pizza place is open at 2 am, and they dont expect people to be drunk? Who the hell orders pizza at 2 am that isnt stoned or drunk? Whos it for, Late night bible study? Talk about being screwed over by some punk ass cop with nothing to do.

Public intox is usually a charge given to someone being a drunk knucklehead in public or a lesser charge stemming from another violation. Rinehart could have done a multitude of things to get the charge like trip or wander in to the street which could get him run over, being loud in public, peeing on a building, etc. I do agree that just citing someone for this because their drunk is excessive however.
