Rinehart Out, Mike Williams In (with Inactives)

Big Mike Williams is scheduled to start at right guard today in place of Chad Rinehart.

Williams hasn't played in the regular season since 2005 and primarily has been a tackle throughout his career. According to the Redskins' media guide, Williams, while with the Buffalo Bills in 2005, started a game at left guard against the Kansas City Chiefs. And the team adds that he also started at right guard for Buffalo on Nov. 27, 2005 -- his last NFL game, which was against Carolina.

After signing with Washington in April, Williams rapidly shed about 80 pounds and made the opening 53-man roster. He was active in the first four games as a backup this season but did not play. Rinehart - a third-round draft pick in 2008 - took over at right guard after Randy Thomas was lost for the season in the second game because of a triceps injury.

The Inactives: Hunter Smith, Kevin Barnes, Anthony Alridge, Edwin Williams, Robert Henson, Marko Mitchell, Anthony Mongtomery and Rinehart.

LOVE THIS MOVE! Mike Williams will provide a road grader for the right side as he is big and powerful. Look for more running right now! He has decent feet for a tackle but great feet for a guard in pass pro. GO SKINS!

Kevin Barnes...inactive in 5 games now. Kevin Barnes, a 2009 3rd round pick. Kevin Barnes, supposedly was going to push Tryon and Smoot. Kevin Barnes, another Vinnie Cerrato draft pick bust.

WHAT??????? WHAT???????? Rinehart actually was looking great in run blocking.... I don't understand this move unless he is sick or disciplinary reasons..... This is as bush league as it gets if it's just a "personnel" move!!!!

been gone a week? anything happen?

Seriously ... BMW for Rinehart? Supposedly, it was a 'close' competition between Chad and Monty to get the starting job just 2 weeks back. So close they didn't name a starter 'til Friday.

Now Monty is on the bench for BMW, who hasn't played, and isn't a G. I suspect I'm not the only one with questions.

According to the DC paper that reports, BMW took all the snaps this week as Rhino was injured.

Now I'm waiting for another "injuryreportgate" to break as all the erstwhile tron producers sniff after "why wasn't rhino on the report?".

It was reported other places it was injury, so the question to me is why no Montgomery?

Odd def some gaps in the story.

Today - 9:45 AM ET

According to John Czarnecki, Redksins' owner Daniel Snyder has approached Mike Shanahan again this season about being head coach, only to be denied a second time.

This is after the Skins just hired Sherman Lewis as an offensive consultant on Tuesday. Word is that Shanahan does want to return to the sidelines, but he wants to wait until the season ends so he can look at all of his options. Shanahan has been rumored in a couple of different cities now.

It's bashed because the key to OLine play is cohesiveness. A new player is bad for that, no matter how talented. Too bad, because hte line played wel int he second half last week.

Are last years second round picks producing so much that we continue to make MM inactive. If the players aren't "executing", how bout benching them and giving MM a shot.

The OTHER reason it's bash worthy is assignments, more anr more resemble appointments to key positions in the Politboro.

In other words, what makes Vinny look good is the reason, not necessarily the best person for the job.

Aftr his disastrous moves last year, Vinny, like everyone else at Redskin part is hanging onto his job, and may have ordered the move.

fwiw, I noticed that Kelly is hurting ... not sure if that is the issue impacting his play. If it is, got no problem with those who want to see MM get a shot. But if MM is going to get play, have him practice with the 1st unit during the week.

In all of this, the most exciting thing is if Zorn can catch the momentum and make this offense produce before Snyder gives him the heave ho. Do you fire Zorn at the end of a 7-11 season if the O is finally putting points on the board and berating divisional rivals?

Posted by: MrChili | October 11, 2009 12:35 PM | Report abuse

And the obligatory F cL as well, but that would be extraordinarily unfair to him to be mentioned in the same 'F' as Snyder.

Posted by: WorstSeat | October 11, 2009 12:37 PM | Report abuse

The thing that keeps this interesting is whether Zorn can get the momentum before Snyder gives him the heave ho. Do you fire a coach at the end of a 7-9 season if the O finally starts putting up 24+ points and beating divisional rivals?

Good point TE. I don't Snyder can get the coach he wants in here unless there is a GM with autonomy in place. In regards to the BMW move, I think one possibility we should consider is that both Heyer and Rineheart are inexperienced in the NFL. The responsibility fell on Heyer to step upon that side of the ball and help Rineheart out and maybe that wasn't going so well. BMW at least gives them some more game experience, plus BMW at guard is better the at OT at this point. Just a thought.

Panthers are 32nd against the run. Portis called out Sellers. BMW, 6'5" 330, gets his first start since 2005.

Jason Garrett tried to lose the game for the boys allowing Romo to heave the ball down field.

Is Zorn smart enough to grind it?

Why the fuc% is Zorn refusing to play Marko Mitchell and Anthony Aldridge? He goes into every game with the same slow unproductive group of running backs that constantly get 1 yard per carry or are stopped in the backfield. Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas has 7 catches between themselves. Every week is the same old players and the same old results. GIVE AA AND MM AN OPPORTUNITIY, IF THEY DON'T PAN OUT THE KEEP THEM ON THE INACTIVE LIST BUT AT LEAST GIVE THEM A SHOT
