Rusty - The European Tour

Keeping an eye on the Arch Deluxe watch, but got an interesting email from the NFL a few minutes ago.

The league runs a bunch of programs for current and former players in conjunction with NFL Europa (the league formerly knowns as NFL Europe and the WLAF), and Ethan Albright and Phillip Daniels are both taking part in an officiating training program this spring. They will work with game officials during practices and training sessions during the Europa training camp, which is held in Tampa.

Albright and Daniels are among eight players in the officiating internship program. With Coach Joe allowing veterans to workout away from Redskins Park until reporting for OTAs in mid-May, these guys are clearly still going to be around the game in the meantime. (Other vets I have heard were not at The Park for the start of voluntary workouts include Dolla Bill, Santana,. Lloyd,. The Grim Reaper, Arch Deluxe, Shawn Springs (we need a nickname for him, Lisa).

Also, former Redskins Brandon Noble, one of my favorite guys to have covered on three years on the beat, is taking part in the Europa coaching internship program.

Noble, whose career was ended at least in part by a MRSA infection and multiple knee problems, spent last season as an assistant coach at a small college in Pennsylvania (at least that's what he told me the last time we spoke, which was a while back) and definitely was interested in staying around the game in a non-playing capacity. As a coaching intern he is involved in the program for the entire training camp, then also the 10-week season which begins this spring in Europe.

Other than that, not much going on. The team finally announced the Todd Wade signing this afternoon, and the Arch bonus deadline is tomorrow afternoon (although I suppose it's not impossible for them to push that date back again if so desired).

J-LaC, thanks as always, but NOOOO on Allbright being in harm's way! After that 100-year old ref got clobbered, I just hope the Red Snapper at LEAST wears knee braces while he intern/officiates. Seems like a good post-playing career move. Good for the players that the NFL has that deal for them.

Yeah I heard the Arch Deluxe thing on XXX they said that they were trying to make the Bears pay 5 million of the cap hit or something and they would accelerate his bonus to make the cap hit for the trade like 5 mill for us. Let us know what happens.

Is their any baby pool for your child going JLC?

Its going to be interesting about Archuleta, mostly just based on looking at the Bears roster. They have two strong safeties on the roster: one guy who has one tackle and another guy with no playing time. I think the first one just finished his second year. Something tells me the Bears have been thinking/working long and hard about how to fill that position and who they want in it.

Maybe with Rivera gone, they just forgot about needing to get a strong safety in free agency ...

Who put on Nirvana? This blog smells like Teen Spirit.

Maybe with Rivera in SD, the Chargers could be interested in AA.

skinswest, its Lovie who loves the Chuleta. Other than the Kiel trouble, Charger would seem to be in good shape with McCree and Jue.

J-La way to bring the coke to the hamsters! Also to echo many let us take care of the middle school student council types in the trenches.

If next year is Gibbs' last then maybe he's asking the Danny to set up an FO with new blood to take them forward. Perhaps the fact that we're getting praised for our restraint in the off season is a hint that FO needs a whole lotta shakin going on.

dc - Maybe as former coworkers Rivera knows why Lovie likes AA and would like to get him before Lovie does - Maybe we'd get a bidding war for AA - It could happen. Oops, time to get back to my wife.......Morgan Fairchild, yeah that's the ticket.

Fiscal restraint is a chosen path, which this is not. Since Dannyboy came on the scene, it has always been 1 big splashy signing after another, with little concern for the cap, the future, or team chemistry.

Let's call this what it is. Not spending because they couldn't, doesn't mean they didn't want to.

Jason, I have a nickname for Shawn Springs....HOT STUFF....or Hot Chocolate :)

Actually, Shawn has mentioned in the past that his nickname is "Blue." I believe Shawn said Fred Smoot came up with that nickname because his skin is so dark that it's almost blue.

ESPN Sportscenter just announced that the Redskins have traded Arch Deluxe to the Bears for a 6th round pick! THAT'S ALL?!?!? They better have taken some of a cap hit away or something if all we are getting is a 6th rounder!

ESPN says (on air) that Adam Archuleta has been traded to the Bears for a 6th round pick.

The NFLN just reported the Archuleta trade as well. They briefly mentioned a reworking of the contract to soften the cap hit.

You need a name for #24? I'm no Lisa, but how about Tigger cause "his top is made of de rubber, his bottom is made of de Springs"?

Just MO, but the nicknames don't add anything to the discussion. In fact, they turn off new readers, like me, because I have no idea who the heck you are talking about, and I'm not willing to put the effort into doing a search on your site when there are tons of other sites I can visit.
