Samuels Won't Return
Left tackle Chris Samuels is out for the game with a shoulder stinger suffered early in the first quarter.
As the team returned from the locker room to start the third quarter, Samuels wasn't in pads and wasn't even wearing his jersey.
D'Anthony Batiste has been playing left tackle, and it's a noticable drop-off from the six-time Pro Bowler to a guy who spent almost all of last season on the practice squad and has only seen action in four games during his three-year career.
With Samuels and right guard Randy Thomas, who was placed on injured reserve two weeks ago, both watching from the sidelines, this is essentially the nightmare scenario the Jim Zorn and offensive line coach Joe Bugel had hoped to avoid.

just GREAT to see the defense make big plays and the offense capitalize. if nothing else, it'll give these guys confidence (especially on D) that they can take chances and try to make big plays, knowing that they have the lead and that the offense has the fire under their a$$es to take advantage of excellent opportunities.

yeah, not sure why the linebacker experiment. Ever wonder why the Skins do nonsense like that? It's goes all the way back to Wilber Marshall - take an amazing blitzer, and when he comes to the Skins, make sure you put him into "your" system and put him in coverage. obviously, not the same team as back then, but always seems like we go after the supa star but not use them for what they do best.

yeah, it's great to sacrifice your body...20 yards downfield after the receiver catches the ball. Nobody is looking for a CB to be a big hitter - they are supposed to break up passes before they're caught.
Posted by: OldManGibbs | October 11, 2009 3:20 PM | Report abuse
I love the decision to go for it on fourth down there. He should. This isn't a playoff team, so take some chances. But that call wasn't fantastic. Can't run a slant with eight guys on the line, with a three-step drop and with press man coverage on the outside. You either run a play out of the shotgun, or when you see the defensive set up, you make a new call at the line and run Santana deep past the corner pressing at the line.
Decision to go for it is great, the play call is bad.
Posted by: CDon | October 11, 2009 3:20 PM | Report abuse

@OldManGibbs
If the Redskins had punted, do you think the Panthers don't carve up the defense anyway? The way the unit looked on that drive, Carolina could've started on the 1-yard-line and moved it down field. Too much open space in the middle of that horrid zone. Defense has been playing overall today, and it's time for the offense to pick up some damn slack.

CDon - I think that another 20 yards would have given them 20 yards more to get their act together. Either way, I'd rather the Panthers have had to make up that 20 yards on their own. This isn't exactly a potent offense we're facing, they've already fumbled the ball 4 times and thrown a pick - yeah, I think the 4th down call was the wrong move.

"So when does the Fred Davis experiment officially end?"
When the alarm goes off.

damnit. cant believe we're gonna lose a game where we had a 15 point lead.

This Redskins D is starting to really look gassed. That said, if they can just get off the field here on this third down...not the end of the game, but it'd certainly help.
With Phil Daniels coming off because of injury, do they put Orakpo at DE and let Wilson fill in at LB?

I will say it again keep Orakpo at DE and move Daniels at Tackle. I would rather take my chances of him stopping the run instead of covering a TE.

Good sack !

Well that's a ridiculous call. The receiver gets a 3 yard cushion - if the defender pushes the skins blocker into his own man, isn't he automatically violating that 3 yard cushion? What a stupid rule

What !

This officiating crew sucks.

This call sucks.
How do you push a guy into the punt returner, but not get a penalty?

Here is Sherman Lewis' report to Vinny and Dan Snyder.
"I have coached the the west coast offense for more than 22 years and I have been very sucessful. Having said that, I have no idea WTF Zorn is running. It's not an offense that i'm aware of, to be honest this offense looks like a cluster fuc$. The only way that it can be fixed is to get rid of Zorn and start over. End of report.

That was a stupid challenge.
Posted by: MistaMoe | October 11, 2009 3:46 PM | Report abuse
what a horrible call. the guy blocked the player into the receiver and it hits the guy's leg. That's crap.

I didn't know that bum Westbrook was still on the team.
Posted by: MrRedskin21 | October 11, 2009 3:47 PM | Report abuse
unfortunately the original missed call was not challengeable
Posted by: Pennsylhoya | October 11, 2009 3:47 PM | Report abuse
man it's amazing how many ways the skins have found to lose over these last 10 years.

The defense gave the offense the ball at the carolina 8 yard line and again at the one yard line. WTF has the offense done on their own.....NOT A DAMN THING

Don't think that Campbell, Zorn, Snyder or Cerrato were on the field when the Panthers scored such an EASY TD and 2 pointer. Defense just wore down.

Ode to V-v-v-Vinny!! Rheinhart - bust. Davis - bust. Thomas - bust. Kelly- bust. Three second rounders should be core of the franchise. Instead it's a joke around the league. The Skins are now in meltdown mode.

Big Sherm Report: Week 1
You needed more depth on the offensive line. Only an idiot wouldn't have addressed this in the off season. Your GM is a dope.
And, oh yeah, calling a sweep in your own end zone is simply retarded. Who hired this coach?
Bingo!
