Santana Moss's Other OTA

Some things are just a given. Sports stars celebrate their birthdays with big bashes and Dan Steinberg is always there, asking questions, taking notes, slurping the ice sculpture, fitting right in. This time, it was Santana Moss's turn to party. He bumped up the big event, moving it to the weekend ahead of his actual 30th birthdate, which is today. There's a different organized team activity scheduled for today out in Ashburn. That one begins at 11 a.m.; there'll be four OTAs this week.

Among the teammates attending the party over the weekend was Devin Thomas:

"He's my big brother," Thomas said. "I've got to show him some love here because he's shown me the ropes."

I asked Thomas what he'd be doing when he turns 30.

"Hopefully still tearing up the football field like he does," Showtime said. Then he remembered something. "I got a birthday present for him," he said. "A wheelchair and a cane."

Whats the deal with Jasno's buh-bye? It was there....than it wasn't.....weird.

Posted by: chrislarry | June 1, 2009 9:56 AM | Report abuse

chris,

I've confirmed as a fact that anonymous sources may or may not be speculating that Snyder waited for Jasno to post his bye-bye, then picked up the phone and had a heart-to-heart with Goodell.

Snyder wants to (1) railroad Jasno's career and (2) make him look like a fool in the process.

Once again, these are confirmed anonymous speculations.

Did you just use the words "anonymous" and "sources" in a Redskins Insider thread?

Proceed with caution...or the Washington Post might present a job offer...due to your cunning ability to manipulate NEWS by using words like "anonymous", "sources", "familiar", "situation", and "quarterback"...

Redskins Nation is your destiny.

What do you actually do for a living that you would "kill" for this job? To me, it sounds pretty boring and low-paying. Talking to a bunch of Redskins and then trying to make it sound interesting to the public? Maybe it's just me, but I'd place that higher than selling Chevrolets and lower than, say, being a GS-13 at the Environmental Protection Agency.

Are the Sawx going to make amove for Khalil Greene?

I understand the team ain't all that happy with Lowrie and wants a shortstop bad.

That's what's so bad about the Hanley Rameriz trade from a few years ago: it was great to get Beckett/Lowell, but now you need the guy you gave away to get them.

I've read where they may 'flip' Brad Penny to get a position player.

I wonder how a 'straight-up' Penny for Nick Johnson trade would benefit the Sawx/Nats?

Posted by: MistaMoe | June 1, 2009 10:53 AM | Report abuse

Any job that would get me closer to the franchise would also get me closer to a homocide rap!

I don't know if I could stop myself from lunging at FO or Coarching staff.

Dik
yes we are all in that spot. BTW. Chris Cooley was on The Mike O'Meara show on friday (with Tanner and a lot of beer). At one point they were talking and Cooley started saying how they need a new practice facility one with a dome.

I would just like to say. Yes they do. Maybe one closer to DC.

Posted by: alex35332 | June 1, 2009 11:02 AM | Report abuse

Moe, last time I checked you called the sox interest in Nick Johnson, so I'm thinking you've got a 'guy' on the inside, so you tell me??? LOL....

I think they're still trying to find the replacement for Nomar, from 2004.

I'd do the Hanley trade again if given the chance, they don't win in 07 without Beckett/Lowell.

If they don't do Penny straight up, they're going to pair him with one of their kids in AAA for a higher level prospect....we'll see...

Talent...

Without going into details and placing my private life on blast in a web forum, I will say that I love my job, love my University of Maryland education, and love my six figure W-2 from 2008. That being said...I would have no problem sitting around and discussing the Redskins all day. Maybe its me...and maybe its not for you. Maybe...its not 99.9%...maybe its 80%. Maybe...its debatable that real Skins fans get their news directly from the source...rather than from an intermediate that relies on the source...such as Redskins Insider.

Beantown:

Not sure what there is to get? Its a game like anything else. I may not like Gin Rummy, but I get it. It keeps you interested in the games you don't have an emotional connection too, its fun to talk shti to your friends. For me in both FF and FB I have been doing it with the same dudes for years. We live all over the place so its a fun way to stay connected, talk sports and avoid our wives a bit. Its fun to scour box scores and plan strategically. It also gives you an excuse to watch more sports. Also you can't discount the gambling aspect, but at least the wagering is somewhat based on your skill and ability to play the game rather than just straight chance.

Any way thats my take...

Flackery is an honorable profession and well-paying when done right, but dont' confuse it with anything other than the blend of press-agentry, advertising and suckupery it is.

You think you'd like to "interact" with the players? Don't kid yourself. You're still well outside the velvet rope. You honestly think the players and coaches will be your pals, confide in you, act like you're one of them? Seriously?

"Penny is over achieving...and Smoltzie was promised a starting roto spot.. No way are the Sox going to a 6 man rotation..."

The view from here is Yankeeland is whereas the Sawx won't go with a six man rotation, stashing Smoltz in the bullpen (a la Chien Ming Wang) would give tons of security should Penny suddenly stop overachieveing.

No matter what: you gotta have pitching.

And besides, nothing's gonna happen until after the all-star game anyways.

The big thing is the next two weeks: another round of interleague (weak NL teams this go round), Yanks v. Sawx, Yanks v. Rays (we always forget about them, don't we).

If the Rays somehow pull into second place by the end of June, the question is--who panics first: Boston or New York?

Moe says Team Theo stains its underwear before the Evil Empire opens it's checkbook again.

The Yanks have several interesting chips (Nady, Matsui, R. Pena, Swisher, Hughes, Damon) to move should it need to go get a guy: and that's the difference between New York and Boston.

That and a nice car ride.

"Maybe its debatable" does not equate to "Chris Larry is a donkey because he frequents Redskins Insider for accurate Skins coverage".

no matter what.. Sox/Yanks and the pain in the ass "wish they would go away" Rays..will make the season interesting..
On another note.. How about those empty $2K seats in the new stadium.. Hank must be getting a huge wedgie seeing this.. No sell outs..
Sox were smart... realized that a considerable percentage of the visitors to Fenway were tourists.. Sooo, they renovated versus tearing down one of the oldest stadiums in the MLB..... The tourists are guaranteed cash flow.. They will come to see Fenway regardless of the team's performance...

I am only in a Fant Football league and have been in the same league with essentially the same guys since the 1992 season. CL is right, it’s just another competition between friends with bragging rights and money at stake, in other words a game (where the winner takes home the money). It will change you football viewing habits, I assure you that. You might actually give a hoot about the Texans/Browns game and flip to it during commercials of the skins game because you have a WR on the Texans and want to see how he’s doing…it gets pretty competitive, and it is very cool when you win. You definitely feel “smarter” than the guys you beat because you were smart enough to play this guy and bench that guy, and drafted so and so instead of so and so because you knew he would be better…etc, etc etc. But then again, It’s just fun, and there is money involved. It can be very addictive, but it is lots of fun.

Hmmm ... looks like the war between the Redskins FO and Jason La Canfora goes ever on. Snidely is a pretty vindictive guy ... extremely.

I believe that to be one of his greatest flaws because of its polarizing effect ... because its so extreme., and why he may never be a winner in this league. Its something he shares with the likes of Al Davis and Jerry Jones. Me thinks he may be worst than both.
