Saturday's Blog Outing
Nate sent me an email the other day with an update on our gathering this Saturday night. I'll be there, and I believe Cindy is in, too.
Nate writes:
Hello, everybody,
It's finally upon us, the DC shabingus. Really excited to meet everybody. Final details below.
Cheers,
Nate
DC meet-up/happy hour/Nats game on Saturday, June 7
This is for everybody going to the HAPPY HOUR...
When: 4pm until whenever
Where: RFD, 810 7th St NW, Washington, DC
** One block up from the Verizon Center; half-block up from the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro station
** We'll grab some tables -- look for people in Skins apparel. There will be about 40-50 of us, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

This is for everybody going to the BASEBALL GAME after the happy hour...
** I'll distribute game tickets at the happy hour. Thanks to everybody who's paid in advance -- and to the rest of you for paying on Saturday!
** We should leave RFD around 6:15 or so. I'm planning to take Metro to the stadium, just a few stops down.

Post-game...
Any ideas for fun after the game, especially because the postgame Metro might be a nightmare due to crowds and construction? I'm all ears...
Randoms: Good to see my man Ron Wilson with an Original Six team (I'd be stunned if he didn't take the Maple Leaf job). He comes from a great hockey family and few people would better appreciate the significance of coaching that storied franchise. Plus, it would mean an American is the bench boss for The Leaf, which will no doubt perturb some of my Canadian brethren ... Very excited to have Bruce Arena on set with me during Washington Post Live on Comcast this afternoon. The man provided one of my three greatest sporting thrills with the US World Cup run in 2002 (Sox winning the World Series in 2004 is right up there, too). I hope we can keep him live for more than one segment. He's very candid and one of the true personalities in US soccer, whether you like him or hate him ... Forgot to mention this the other day, but I've got to tip my cap to Deion Sanders. Prime Time hooked me up last week. I called the NFL Network to get in touch with him for a story I am working on about Morocco Brown, the Skins new pro personnel director, who became close with Deion during their year together here with the Skins. So the next day he calls me - I figured it would take several days to hear something back - but I'm walking Rocco in the stroller and couldn't take notes. I asked if we could talk in 5 minutes after I ran home with the stroller. So Deion calls back like 30 minutes later ... and now I'm taking stuff to our storage facility, which is fortified like the Pentagon it seems, with no cell signal possible. So I leave another message and Sanders calls back a third time and we finally chat. He could not have been more understanding of the weird situations I found myself in. I know he's taken his lumps over the years, but he was classy as could be with me ... Very unlikely we'll see Shawn Springs here this week, but there is a chance he may be able to get to OTAs next week. I'll keep you posted.

Deion was probably just laying around at home verbally degrading his wife even worse than he does in public. It takes more than a couple of call-backs to undo the arrogant, "I think I'll use Jesus as a way to rehabilitate my public image--and oh yeah, let me hit up Dan Snyder for some cash before I bail" routine.

no friend of Deion is a friend of mine.

guy....this thing (points down) is still a problem....I feel like I'm going to pass

Dude, what would it take for you to quit talking about your "problem" here. Politics is more relevant here than your medically induced issue. And you know, nobody cares about politics.

By the way, how do I get involved in this "shabingus" you guys are throwing this weekend? I can't think of anything I would rather do this weekend than spend some quality time with my Redskin Insider buddies.
Posted by: Barno | June 4, 2008 10:39 AM
Barno,
Can you name the people who you consider to be "my Redskin Insider buddies"?

Jasno pretty much covered it with this post, but anybody who needs more info on the meet-up this weekend, feel free to ping me at nateinthepdx at gmail dot com.

Did Jasno say he hooked up with Deion? I know Primetime was famous for going both ways on the football field, but this is breaking news.

Actually, don't email me at nateinthepdx at gmail dot com because I'm tired of all you fake phonie fakers! Ahah!

Very funny, person who is not me and who posted at 11:13AM. Very funny. I like jokes like this!
You're coming on Saturday, right? There's a door prize for anyone who claims to have posted a comment attributed to "my" nickname. Care to guess what it is?
See you there...

Thanks, Nate. I didn't see this posting prior to my comment in the last one.
TE-I consider all of you to be my Redskin Insider buddies. Don't you feel the same?!

Also, while I'm mono-blogging, there's a lot of hate up here.
Stop.
Just stop.

I tried to make the short trip to DC for Saturdays shabingus, but a high school graduation has overrode the drunken stupor I could have been involved. I hope all have fun and it sounds like a great time. Be careful, enjoy the drinks and the ball game.
I am sad about not coming up.

Rando... where you from?
I tell you what, you can probably order a life-sized cardboard cut out of yourself (a la MJ in Home Alone). Have your cardboard doppleganger "sit" in the crowd. The bright eyed high school graduate will never know the difference.
Problem solved. Either way, you'll be attending a shabingus this weekend.

the gathering weekend sounds like a good time, but no way i can make it.
any plans for pre/post-game shabinguses (shabingii?) to be held at fedex during the season?
Posted by: snides | June 4, 2008 11:49 AM | Report abuse
Most peeps up here I believe don't attend the games.....
Posted by: 4th | June 4, 2008 11:51 AM | Report abuse
snides, sorry you can't make it this weekend.
There's always a chance you'll run into Ricky Bobby in the FedEx parking lot. He seems to have lots of adventures there.
I probably won't be able to make it to any pre-game shabingi at FedEx this season, but I do hope to meet up with folks for the Seattle game.

Hey, that wasn't very nice, anonymous at 2:31pm.
When I said everyone is welcome to this event, I meant it!
And as Dorf said, it should be "all hugs."
