Saunders "Thrilled" for Campbell's Success

From Mark Maske:

Rams offensive coordinator Al Saunders said yesterday he's looking forward to returning to FedEx Field. He said he'll be happy to see quarterback Jason Campbell and the Redskins playing well and believes the team is building on a foundation put in place during Joe Gibbs's second tenure with the franchise.

"We loved the area," Saunders said in a telephone interview. "We still have our house back there. It's going to be interesting being on the other side of the fence with the fan base. It's just a great environment. From that standpoint, it's very exciting.

"You always like to see things continue. I'm thrilled for Jason Campbell and the rest of the guys on offense. The thing Joe did was bring together a group of high-character, great-work-ethic guys. To see Jason come back from his injury and maturing like that, it's great to see. I said when I got there that there was no limit to what he could do. With all the offenses he's been through, he's able to process information quickly, break it down to things he can understand and apply it on the field. I'm just thrilled for him. He's a true professional."

As long as it isn't at the expense of the skins

Posted by: dante12 | October 7, 2008 10:41 AM | Report abuse

Well u have to admit that was gentlemanly of weird al. I am sure by the time this goes up I will have turned 25 and the skins will have won the game.

I don't care about Al Saunders and his comments.

I do care that next to Bill Lazor, he knows Campbell as well as anyone in the league.

This is a trap game. When the 'skins win this one the next game will be considered one and so forth.

If everyone is thinking that they could be 7-1 after these next three games, then what's stopping them from beating the Steelers on MNF?

I don't see why they couldn't be 8-1 heading into the bye. See it and truly believe it fans, therefor it is so.

I guess I was wrong.

Respectful of Al to take the high road, given that he preferred Collins to Campbell and basically played second fiddle to Gibbs with regard to running the offense.

Is there any chance that Skins will trade for Roy Williams out of Detroit?

Posted by: tc2003 | October 7, 2008 10:48 AM | Report abuse

We still have our house back there.

ummm that's because you paid $2.3M and now it's worth half that.

Posted by: dealer1 | October 7, 2008 10:57 AM | Report abuse

Ummmm...I think, given the way the offense ran most of the time, that Saunders was playing bluegrass fiddle, and Coach Gibbs was playing symphony bassoon or something like that...

Posted by: JohnDinHouston | October 7, 2008 10:58 AM | Report abuse

nm I was right. I am ready for some football right now. I wish that there was a league or some games being played on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I think we are a bit bloated on receivers right now, and why would you want to mess with chemistry for something we just don't need

Posted by: fbchick | October 7, 2008 10:59 AM | Report abuse

COskin, did you call up 980 on sunday?

"Sweezum proves the rule that as a kicker you're only as good as your last kick... fortunately for him his last kick was a doozy. But a couple of misses and he'll be our whipping boy, again. Ah, the life of the kicker. I don't envy him."
Posted by: NateinthePDX

Nate, whenever I start getting upset with the kicking game I just think back to the Max Zendejas era and then things just seem quite so bad.

Posted by: isnadd | October 7, 2008 11:06 AM | Report abuse

If the 'Skins trade for Roy Willimas, then in theory they'll become the Lions.

No thanks.

alex35332, playing games on a tues or wed is a terrible idea. I am only recently coming around to the fact that games will be played on thrusdays during the last few weeks of the season. And i hate games on Sat night.

Yes perhaps we could trade Fred Davis and Kelly for Williams. Or we could trade a draft pick for him. Imagine the 7 receiver set....

Posted by: Gweez | October 7, 2008 11:23 AM | Report abuse

We arent going to get roy williams, if anyone is going to try and go after him it looks like the eagles or cowboys would be on the list

PORTIS RANKS THE NFC EAST QUARTERBACKS
Posted by Mike Florio on October 7, 2008, 11:22 a.m. EDT

Redskins running back Clinton Portis, who is always ready to deliver an entertaining sound bite, ranked the quarterbacks of the NFC East during Tuesday’s edition of The Dan Patrick Show.

Portis placed Giants quarterback Eli Manning at the top, given that he is the reigning Super Bowl champ.

Next came Tony Romo of the Cowboys, because he’s the leader of a winning team.

Then came Donovan McNabb of the Eagles, because the team is always good under his leadership.

And finally Portis included his own quarterback, Jason Campbell. Portis explained that, like the Redskins, Campbell is “flying under radar” and to just “pay him no mind.”

It was classic Clinton Portis. But if T.O. had pulled a stunt like this, the crawl on ESPN would be proclaiming for the next 48 hours that “Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens rates Tony Romo fourth among all NFC East quarterbacks. And also peed in his coffee.”

Posted by: Curzon417 | October 7, 2008 11:38 AM | Report abuse

People are talking like it's a LOCK for Roy Williams to come to the NFC Beast. Only two teams I could MAYBE see doing it would be Cowgirls and Iggles, but that just sounds far fetched to me.

I'm thinking Williams gets stuck on the Lions this year, which is unfortunate for him, his team, the fans, and the organization.

All this crap with Jason La Canfora and Vinny Cerrato and Larry Micheals arguing is the most petty, stupid crap I have ever seen. I'm 22 and appear more mature than any of these men.

zeebs, that story isn't slanted at all....regardless, I think JM has a point..

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 7, 2008 11:51 AM | Report abuse

Well truth, it comes down to this simple fact....

The redskins have shown that they dont like the post and are going after it.

Maybe it is deserved. But it is just not Jla.
There is a history to this. It is documented.

So it comes down to who you believe. The biggest newspaper in the most important city in the world, or a petulant child of an owner who seems much more worried about public perception and the accumulation of money, than running an organization right.

The obstructed view seats are all the proof you need of where DS greed is.

So if you come to this board, and support the post with hits which = ad revenue, then you should technically be on their side.

If you think the post is out to get the skins, go over to extremeskins.

can somebody tell what would take for jon jansen to start again at right tackle?
i love heyer (fellow terp), but the way the o-line handled 2 of the best against-the-rush teams with jansen starting should tell us something.
oh, and the fact that they only gave up a sack agaist the blitz-happy eagles.

That is what we like to call funny. Nate, don't peak too early this week, kickoff's 121 long hours away!!

No chance we trade for Roy Williams barring injury. Where did this rumor start? Save the draft picks! We're already down a 2nd roudner...

My understanding is that Zorn likes Heyer's ability to pass-protect. Jansen appears to be a better run-blocker, and has gotten his feet "underneath" himself again in pass-blocking, after a suspect preseason. Remember, he was still recovering from a broken leg. Heyer's shoulder is still bothering him, so Jansen will continue to start. Best case scenerio may be to get Heyer back in a few weeks, and have Jansen ready in the wings, since he has had a number of season-ending injuries the last couple of years.

No, not a chance.

Jerry Jones says No to another Roy Williams in Dallas, so Philly, Tampa, Nashville and Houston might be good bets.

LOL @ the sign-ins to try to stop anons from bashing JLC. Send him to the traffic desk already.

In any case, I think Saunders is a stand-up kind of guy. Sure, what he was trying to do didn't quite take hold here, but such is life. Things don't always work out and you can just hope all parties involved can move on to future success. Nothing but respect for what Saunders has done in his career and it's good to see him recognizing what JC has been able to accomplish.

Here's hoping for a sound Redskins victory this Sunday, with no serious injuries for either side.
