Schottenheimer speaks up

On his radio show, former Redskins coach Marty Schottenheimer talked about the report that owner Daniel Snyder and Vinny Cerrato, the executive vice-president of football operations, had done college scouting. Dan Steinberg has the rest of the comments at D.C. Sports Bog.

"When you send Dan [Snyder] out along with Vinny Cerrato, Vinny's going to tell him whatever he thinks Dan wants to hear," Schottenheimer said Thursday on "The Red Zone," the SIRIUS NFL show he hosts along with Solomon Wilcots. "Dan, God love him, I don't know that the analysis and evaluation of quarterbacks is necessarily down his alley."

Was wondering how long it'd take Marty to add his two cents...

Posted by: hobbes9 | December 10, 2009 9:14 PM | Report abuse

Had to take a break from RI for a day or 2 and scan the new entries from Reid - here's what I gleaned:

1)Snyder is flying around the country scouting QBs.

2)Jerry Gray explains everything and nothing about LL30 biting on double moves. Apparently Rogers never lost his starting job, but didn't start. LL30 has gotten more stupid and incompetent at doing his job as time has gone on.

3)Albert Hayneworth is in the midst of his annual run of inactives due to injury (Didn't someone say something about this trend when we gave him $41mill guaranteed??)

4) In a passionate show of fidelity and unity with his "U" homey, Santana Moss inexplicably throws the Redskins Olines under the bus to help us understand why CP has been playing like a bum.

Or has some really good pictures/video on Dan.

Look for Voldermort to be here next season.

I was kinda hoping that the reports that Snyder is scouting qbs were false. Even experienced GMs with full scouting teams at their disposal miss on quarterbacks more often than not. In what world is Dan Snyder qualified to scout any position, much less quarterback?

Just wanted to emphasize the inherent cheapness of the wine.

When I read about things like Dan Snyder flying around with Vinny to scout QBs, it makes me want to give myself over to the cheap and dirty things of the world...

this truly is a "hostage" situation for this team, and fans. if the owner does not change, bringing anyone to run the org will not help. WTF were those two thinking? sucks to be the QB, because he will be cut after 2-3 seasons and his NFL career will be destroyed.

Like you, I think that's what the Wizards of Redskins Park will feel heading into the draft.

Thing is, they also believed that the present roster was playoff ready.

Last year, they evaluated the team, realized they needed o-linemen and drafted a linebacker.

They'd put out fires with cans of gasoline, this crew.

"Just wanted to emphasize the inherent cheapness of the wine."

Wine is only enjoyable if you're drinking it with a strange woman you want to sleep with.

Then again, if this is indeed the situation, you want to drink it out of a brown paper bag.

That way, if in a moment of soberity you realize how busted she looks, you can pull the bag over her face and finish your sexual business in the usual 3 minutes.

And when you're done, the bag serves as a collecting device for the hurl that'll come after you realize you just shagged a chick who looks like a post-op tranny runway model.

As for Marty, call when you have a Ring.

The key for me is that you have to assume the owner wants to have so
e participation in the process. What you need is a gm or vp that can manage the process, and filter the results. If Vinny is too much of a yes man, then the results will speak for themselves.
If your fandom is based on Snyder giving up Wverything except attemdance, then you might want to rethink things. Or sign up for my special notification list for when Snyder sells the team. Just leave your name and an email address that will work in 2047.

Do you hear about the owners of the Patriots, Steelers, Giants and other proffessionaly run franchises going on scouting trips to look at players? Dan Snyder is a straight up fool. Why won't he back off and let a competent GM and his scouting dept scout and evaluate players?

It looks like stubborn "this is my team, and I'm going to play with it the way I WANT TO" Dan Snyder has no intention of getting rid of his FRIEND Vinny C. This guy just doesn't get it, and this team will never, ever be a serious contender.

Last but not least, QB is not what they should be looking at. This team needs O-lineman, bad, another RB, defensive back, LB. What in the hell do these fools think a first year QB is going to accomplish behind this current line? Dumb and Dumber have made it hell to be a Redskins fan, there's pretty much no enjoyment at all in following this team. Nothing but disapointment year after year, week after week and it's been going on pretty much ever since this guy bought the team.

It's enough to make you scream.

Play 2 - ok
Play 3 - not so good.

Drive 2:
Play 1 - ok
Play 2 - not bad
Play 3 - real good
play 4 - good
play 5 - TD!

Additional notes:
1. This guy looks good in a football uniform, Jersey should sell well. Booo-yah!

2. Didn't really notice any of the O linemen. Were they playing tonight? Ask Vinny to find out again.

3. The people who run this stadium are IDIOTS. Parking is WAY too cheap and it was soooo easy to get in and out. Amateurs...

Actually it's a great list Glawrence007, but it would require some deep pockets and an uncapped year, the secondary alone would probably eat up all of our available cap space.

Hey guys let me ask this simple question....

What's wrong with the O-line we had the last couple weeks?

Heyer
Dockery
Rabach
Williams
Jones

Is it because they are a bunch of no names. Groom Edwin Williams to replace Rabach...get you a couple of Tackles and a guard and we're back in business

Posted by: rickyroge | December 10, 2009 8:44 PM | Report abuse

The tackles are the problem. The improvement over the past three weeks has been the interior o-line push on run blocking. Notice GANTHER got yards right up the gut. First time this year it approached consistancy.

DOCKERY, RABACH, and MIKE WILLIAMS did a very good job last week. I said in the x-games that WILLIAMS looked weak in space, but the few plays where he didn't have to cover much ground he didn't look bad. His body needs to recover from the extreme weight loss it's experienced the past nine months. By next year, he will be better, and I do feel he may have found his place at RG.

We didn't have him there early because RANDY THOMAS was still there. I'm not sure RT comes back other than as a back-up. I still am not impressed with RINEHART. I did like what EDWIN WILLIAMS brought to the position. Of course, he needs more seasoning.

WIL MONTGOMERY is an excellent player, but just too small for the NFL. His only position has to be back-up center which can be addressed with a draft pick in 2011.

OKUNG and BLACK will give us the new blood we need on the line at the tackle positions. JONES is fine for certain situations and injury back-up until 2011. Same with HEYER, but neither is an every down tackle; LEVI no longer, and STEPHON never was.

A fourth rounder at tackle gives us new blood to push HEYER and JONES for back-up positions, and we still need a guard to replace back-up LG BATISTE, the only position he plays adequately. Again, 2011 draft.

Dan Snyder scouting QB's, give me a f&cking break. YOU BUILD A WINNING FRANCHISE WITH STUDS ON THE O-LINE AND D-LINE first. Then you get your fast, strong and athletic skill players.

Can something or somebody just make Sndyder back the hell off and let competent and proffessional football people assemble and run this team. I can't beleive this guy with as much money as he's made is this stupid.

It'd be nice to think that Levi could take the place of Samuels as LT for a year or so, moving to RT as he gets older. That was my hope for this year -- that we would get a LT that could spend a year at RT learning the speed of the pro game. It's petty hard to argue that Oher was a'must pick' at 10, but now the need to address LT is really pretty critical.

One last point about Dockery and Big Mike at guard, between the two, we don't have a pulling guard. That could be pretty limiting.

Randy Thomas excelled at it. That's what made him so valuable. Big Mike can maul the guy in front of him, but he ain't pulling no where fast. We might still need to look for an athletic guard who can get around the corner for us.

2010 OL
LT- Rookie/Jones
Lg- Doc
C- Rabach/Edwin
RG- Rookie/FA/Rhino
RT- Jones/Rookie/FA

Need in influx of at least 3 players via FA and the draft. No way the FO can count on Randy Thomas or Samuels.

The 2010 season's success hinges on a rebuilt OL. This needs to be the emphasis of the offseason.

Yes, this team does need a new QB, but letting Dan Snyder scout them? That's how we got stuck with Jason Campbell in the first place.

Cut Vinny, hire a real GM and let him evaluate both a new QB and several O-linemen to protect him for the next several years.

----------------------------------
These two knuckleheads are already neck-deep in meddling. Snyderatto must've scored a combined total of 2 on the Wonderlic Test because they clearly lack the front-office skills to build a successful team. They blatantly continue to ignore the offensive line issues in order to court future draft busts like Jimmy Clausen. Morons. I bet they won't do anything about the secondary either.

very good point. My guess is that Dock can pull, he runs pretty well for a guy that big. But I doubt BMW can and you really need two guards who can run if you want to sweep wide. Which means mostly between the tackles running.

I like that BMW is getting playing time. I've said all along that you can't do what he did to his body and play at a high level in the NFL right away. He's getting the time to readjust, relearning the subtleties of balance and power that an NFL lineman needs to know. He's not a good player at this point, but he's getting the work that will allow him to be good down next season.

I felt that if BMW was needed to make a significant contribution in 2009, that would be a bad thing. But if he can make a contribution in 2010, that may be a good thing.

If they draft a qb on the 1st rd. simply boy-cott the team and all that goes with it. How about sending a petition to them and let them know that fans are watching their every move concerning the team and will not tolerate nor support them anymore. these 2 are insane plain flat out insane. rinehart is too slow to play left tackle the speed ends would destroy him and heyer is bad at left tackle also but this team probably will not draft a left tackle.
