Springs Very Unlikely to Play

It is highly unlikely that cornerback Shawn Springs will be able to play against the Baltimore Ravens tonight because of a calf injury, which means Carlos Rogers will likely end up playing a ton in the slot. Rogers has little experience in that nickel technique, but did perform well there when pressed into duty against Dallas a few weeks ago.

The Redskins expect running back Clinton Portis and defensive end Andre Carter to have pregame fitness tests to determine their final status. It would be surprising if Portis and linebacker London Fletcher do not start.

Is this post about Springs, or the loss of LT?

So he won't be knocking an interception out of D. Hall's hands?

O.K. by me.

Springs should take his calves back to Arizona.

I think T.E. is right to point out that prior to this season, Spring has been a gamer.

But the guy was drafted in 1997. You don't pay big bucks to resign him now.

the redskins seem to do this with all the players they decide they are not bringing back for the next year. look at marcus washington, i'm not saying they are not injured, but they seem to sort of weed them out and use injuries to keep them out. and springs has been more than valuable since he's been here, given us stability while we groomed carlos to take over, it's just sad to see him fade out like this

Wait just a gol-darned minute! Since when were we hoping to catch the Cowboys - not that it wouldn't be NICE - but that wasn't/isn't our main chance to make the playoffs:

1. NFC Central and West will have no wild card teams.
2. NFC South teams should beat each other up over the next 4 weeks.
3. That's how we get in, Giants, Cowboys and Redskins, just like last year.

Posted by: JohnDinHouston | December 7, 2008 6:37 PM | Report abuse

And now PIT is going to make it closer and respectable but still find a way to f!ck up and lose.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 7, 2008 6:37 PM | Report abuse

i am definitely not questioning the players and their injuries, i just feel like this has happened before and always happens, i think it is management (vinny), i mean we hear all week how springs is looking good and should play without practicing, then all of a sudden gameday happens and he's not available. i love springs and believe when healthy he's still our #1 and can stop anyone. i also think marcus washington's signing here was a big part of our defense becoming one of the best in the league, with his upbeat attitude and general excitement for the game. I hope they are both back next year, even though it looks like they are both slowing down and could probably take a big pay cut.

Posted by: irep540 | December 7, 2008 6:37 PM | Report abuse

Dallas got Tarshard Choice with the 122nd pick in the draft. I'm sure that Vinny would have taken him (best player available) with the 124th, but he was gone. With no Choice left, Vinny took the next best player with the 124th pick: Justin Tryon.

This game smacks of the Dallas/Skins game. I.E., ..Dallas turns the ball over; Skins don't do anything with it...same thing here, so Dallas says okay, you don't want this game, we will take it. So that's where we are right now. Pitt better wake up..

Posted by: Soup17 | December 7, 2008 6:40 PM | Report abuse

i think it is management (vinny),

Posted by: irep540 | December 7, 2008 6:37 PM

Vinny's job is to choose players. Zorn's job is to coach them up and decide which ones play.

But why would Vinny tell Zorn that he can't play Springs if Springs is healthy? You think Vinny has a conspiracy to make the 'Skins look bad?

Posted by: talent_evaluator | December 7, 2008 6:42 PM | Report abuse

Pitt play calling has been suspect at best. They are teeing off on Ben, they need to run the ball more especially on first down there...they could've run one play and started the 4th quarter with the wind. Instead it'll be 2nd and 17. Super.

Even if the cowgirls win here (I was going to say back into a win, but perhaps that would be inappropriate), there might not be too many of them left for the rest of the season.

So with a Steelers loss, would'nt the Ravens be tied with the Steelers for 1st place?

Darn! That gives the Ravens even more incentive to win.

AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE!??? There are TWO wild card spots and I guarantee you that Atlanta and Carolina do not finish out ahead of us - if we win our remaining games, and even if, Danny Forbid, we only win 3 out of 4 - Why does everyone keep saying that with a Dallas victory we're playing for pride?

And I repeat, the Dallas Defense is a bunch of a$$hat clowns that should look for a spot in Ringling Brothers after the season - all that freakin' lame celebrating will catch up to them -

please d.c. fans, have some faith in the game tonight! with this cowgirls loss, the skins can close the gap with a win tonight. this game is not a gimme, but if we can put some pressure on joe flacco, and force some turnovers, then we definitely have a chance. so far, ive been much more impressed with matt ryan's ability to turn the falcons around. flacco is still a rookie, and inherited a team with a sick defense. a key to a redskins victory lies in knocking the crap out of flacco!
