Skins Release S. Alexander, Expect to Sign Boschetti

Jason Reid reports:

The Redskins have released running back Shaun Alexander, who signed with the team on Oct. 14. They are expected to re-sign their former defensive tackle Ryan Boschetti, who visited Redskins Park today, although they also are considering other defensive players.

And good.

Said the SA37 might as well get a one way ticket for the Seattle trip.

And the trade for Boldin comment ... that was mostly to amuse Greg ...

Reed Doughty's number will be waiting for him when he gets back.

How awkward was that for JZ?

Posted by: Tyler2Durden | November 25, 2008 2:38 PM | Report abuse

U really think Reid Doughty will be back?

FINALLY. WE sHOULD HAVE KEPT MARCUS MASON FOR ALL THAT!

(Cue Greg)

I do. He'll become the Ryan Boschetti of the secondary.

So much for THAT experiment.

If we want to win the Super Bowl next year, then Vinny is going to have to secure the rights to Marcus Mason and Leigh Torrence in the off-season.

It's as clear as glass.

SA did nothing yet it is an interesting move with all that ails CP and Betts not in a groove running the ball. It might mean more of a role for Sellers.

He gave us insurance, and peace of mind. That's worth something -- especially since, unlike TJ Duckett, we didn't have to give up anything to get him.

Posted by: PBL4 | November 25, 2008 2:45 PM | Report abuse

Cut James and sign LaVar Arrington. He can do everything that Taylor is doing. Plus he's cooler.

Posted by: Joe_in_Raleigh | November 25, 2008 2:45 PM | Report abuse

Hey 4th -- amazing move in FF. 5 game win streak. 1/2 the league still can make the playoffs ... with 1 game left.

I'll do my best to help you ... got John in Houston this week.

Posted by: zcezcest1 | November 25, 2008 2:45 PM | Report abuse

Welcome Back Ryan Boschetti, Can we get some injury updates on Griffin, Fletcher, Carter and Golston. Which of them are likely to play? vs not play. I want our D at as close to full strength as possible. We are already missing Marcus Washington for the Giants game.

Posted by: Skins28 | November 25, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

Yes the one thing this blog doesn't do is post injury news as soon as they have it..........................

(eyes rolling)

Posted by: chrislarry | November 25, 2008 2:48 PM | Report abuse

I thought Boschetti had a big step up this past preseason (like Evans did). Good move ... and it is timely (if not late).

No surprise re: Alexander ... he would have been facing suspension by the league ... the District Attorney is preparing to indict the guy on grand theft tiptoe.

Posted by: dcsween | November 25, 2008 2:48 PM | Report abuse

So long Mr. Alexander..we didn't even hear you leave as you tip-toed out..

Posted by: brianlee720 | November 25, 2008 2:49 PM | Report abuse

Time for Shaun to tip-toe off into the sunset.

Posted by: freakzilla | November 25, 2008 2:50 PM | Report abuse

Skins28, my guess is that its more about bodies in the rotation (and giving Cornelius more rest ... and not requiring Evans to play as much DT ... because he will be playing proportionally more DE ... because Jason Taylor will be pressed into LB coverage duty in the flats ... because of Marcus).

Posted by: dcsween | November 25, 2008 2:50 PM | Report abuse

I am sniffing silver lining in these DT injuries...Lorenzo Alexander will not relinquish his starting job now for the next 5 years......

Posted by: chrislarry | November 25, 2008 2:50 PM | Report abuse

Thanks. I need him to lose becasue I think he beats me in all the tie breakers....

He has a high scoring team, though....

Nate, Freak: How was the Seattle get together? Sorry I couldn't join you guys this time. Actually, I'm glad I didn't as the skins are 0 for 2 with me in Seattle!

Posted by: alex35332 | November 25, 2008 2:56 PM | Report abuse

Am I the only one that finds it completely AMAZING that Shaun Alexander is a flame broiled steak? I didn't think he was THAT done. This is a former MVP and had the all-time record for TDs in a season.

He really bought new meaning to the phrase: "Ride 'em to the wheels fall off."

HOLD UP-Heaaayay

LOL @ Greg, from the last thread.

Sween you forgot emergency QB.

Posted by: alex35332 | November 25, 2008 2:57 PM | Report abuse

I'm curious as to who the 'other defensive players' are??

I'm hoping for Bruce Smith, Deion, Mark Carrier, Jesse Armstead, AArch, Jeremiah Trotter, and Dan Wilkinson.

Posted by: BeantownGreg | November 25, 2008 2:58 PM | Report abuse

Well, one week I have a high scoring team, and the next week, Forte gives me 0, TO gets nothing and I figure Gerard is going to have a good game against the Raiders...

My real secret weapon is Dustin Keller

4th -- we both got our work cut for us this week. I've got a shot at John, though if you'd cough up Michael Turner (for Shaun Alexander), I'd have a better shot at winning ...

Big Daddy Dan Wilkinson, i feel, doesn't deserve to be on that list of shame. That lard azz balled for the Skins, was a big time run stuffer/lane filler. Played the best football of his career with the skins. I have a soft spot for him...

Regarding a previous post stating we bring back LAVAR, thats gotta be greatest idea of the day so far! However, I am just a bit curious as to what he could do at DE.

Posted by: REDneckSKINhead | November 25, 2008 3:05 PM | Report abuse

cl, he played well, but I think he cost the team a couple first round picks, or something close to that?

You forgot you need a Starting QB next year.

Posted by: Dfan | November 25, 2008 3:08 PM | Report abuse

in FF, I didn't trust the Packer defense vs Brees, so I went shopping and picked up the Bronco defense. Not because their defense is any good, but they were playing the Raiders who were in the middle of 200 plays without the offense scoring a touchdown.

Naturally, the Raiders torch Denver and I get -3 FF points. Which turned out to be an improvement over GB, who got torched even worse by Brees.

SA was older than most when he came out of college, so he got a late start on his NFL career. Add all the pounding he took as primary running back. He got too old for the game pretty fast.

No you were not. I was about to be really pissed for a minute.

Thank God it turned out to be Mr. Softee instead.

However, for some reason I don't think we've seen the last of him. If he's still out there during training camp next year I would not be surprised if we signed him back just too see if he can pick up the offense and get back into game shape.

Posted by: Predator48 | November 25, 2008 3:15 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: JAMNEW | November 25, 2008 4:01 PM | Report abuse

All jokes aside, Alexander's career was over after the big hit he took in the playoff game against the Skins and he stayed on the sidelines while the Seahawks won without him. He couldn't survive in the Skin's power running game that demands real courage from the RB to hit the hole hard.

Posted by: JAMNEW | November 25, 2008 4:13 PM | Report abuse

Mason and Torrence? Who mentioned Boldin? That makes sense. Then there are all of those talented Oakland Raider former 1st and 2nd rounders who want out. Send Greg not Vinnie to talk to them.

SA37's 2006 contract with Seattle had 15.1 million in guaranteed money. SA37 shouldn't have anything to worry about monetarily. He still has the desire to play, but then again so did Eric Dickerson playing for the Raiders and Falcons. Heart and legs are two different things.

LB46 however should be very worried (injuries / fumbles).

I disagree with this move in cutting SA. With guys like Erasmus James who is REALLY DOING NOTHING! on the roster. With Clinton a heart beat away from being out and Betts not really ever holding on to the ball...Clinton goes down....the Skins are in big trouble....
