Skins Take Advantage of Extra Day

From Jason La Canfora, via Barry Svrluga, to me:

It's a rare Wednesday when they're not in pads, but the Redskins are banged up and have an extra day to prepare.

The following guys aren't practicing:

Malcolm Kelly
Carlos Rogers
Shawn Springs
Clinton Portis
LaRon Landry
Rock Cartwight
Ladell Betts
Jason Taylor
Pete Kendall
Santana Moss

Quick question: If you don't like the way JLC writes his blog, his "negativity", etc. than why keep coming here? Why not go to a more friendly, positive blog to get your Redskins news?

It reminds me of the people who complain about Sean Hannity or Bill O'Reilly or Keith Olbermann and than sit down and watch their program.

Just curious.

Don't forget the extra hour they gain over the weekend as well. Gonna be well rested indeed!

Well, at least this means that Samuels, Griff, and Horton ARE.

Pretty obvious you hate extra days, Jasno.

Spoke to a scout earlier and he gave this report on the Skins. Jason Campbell is their starting quarterback and he hasnt thrown a pick this year. Santana Moss, Chris Cooley, and Randle El are their big threats. Make sure you stop Clinton Portis. THANKS CAPTIAN OBVIOUS. Glad to see someone is worth that they are paid

Anyojne have a problem with CP not practicing?

If you do, smack yourself.

Why don't they just IR Kelly and bring up the other Devin from the PS. At least he's played in some NFL games. Either that or resign Mix since he's also good on special teams.

zjfr2 = JLC's brother?

Posted by: craig2 | October 29, 2008 12:42 PM | Report abuse

nope, just a guy who wishes our team was well run, we've stumbled into being well coached, now if we could only stumble into be well run, oh wait that would mean that the guy running would have to do the most convoluted search in the history of football and be denied by anybody with any sort of experience or reputation before finally settling on a complete unknown to replace his best buddy in the whole wide world and then have it work out beyond anybody's wildest expectations, doubt that's gonna happen. But hey, Zorn is proof anything is possible, and maybe just maybe Zorn is good enough that he starts to get a say in personnel and eventually takes that role over, that would be great.

Posted by: zjfr2 | October 29, 2008 12:58 PM | Report abuse

Oh, that was good. So they deserve no credit whatsoever? All you can do is find fault, what a JLC you are.

Last year this team's depth was tested in a big time way, and they passed very nicely thank you very much, that's good team management. This year, the team's depth is also being tested and guess what, their 6-2, that's good team management.

You take facts that are out of date adn try to apply them to the here and now, and it just doesn't have any merit.

Most reasonable people agree that what counts is results, and the results from last year and now this year are pretty good. It's easy to sit at your computer and criticize the draft, but they apparently haven't been needed yet, or the team wouldn't be winning. If they fall apart without contributions from the draft, then the draft deserves to be downgraded, but until that point comes(which I don't see happening) it isn't fair, accurate or reasonable.

What's that? You want to know what The Truth is up to this week? Sure, I can let you in my world for a little bit!

1) The Truth is PUMPED and a little nervous for the WLOCP. That's the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, the biggest game of the year for Georgia and Florida fans, down in Jacksonville! The Truth really, really wants to beat Florida again this year and thanks everyone here for their support!

2) The Truth is less than excited about his Bobcats starting up their season for one simple reason - they suck. The Truth knows they won't go to the playoffs this year and expects them to leave Charlotte in about 3 years because they suck.

3) The Truth is pumped to actually watch a game live on TV this Monday night for his Redskins! The Truth thinks this will be a tough game and wouldn't be surprised if Pitt wins. The Truth thinks Washington is a little banged up and might be looking forward to getting to the bye. The Truth also thinks any questionable players for Monday night should just sit out since this isn't a division game.

4) The Truth will either eat BBQ or Indian food Saturday.

Interesting you use "more friendly, positive blog" yourself, so your conceding JLC is a negative reporter. At least you see what the problem is.

I read and post here because there just so happen several other "reporters" and journalists that have input on this blog, and it's one of the more DAILY active blogs that run entirely by "just a fan" with no real news to offer 98% of the time.

I can get opinions all over the place, I want real information, and at this point, this one of only a few places to get it. I do post and write elsewhere too.

Posted by: chrislarry | October 29, 2008 2:25 PM | Report abuse

craig2, I don't consider pure dumb luck as good management. And I'm sorry, when you look at this team for the most part that is what we've had so far. And yes, we absolutely lucked into a great head coach, just look at the process, the only thing they deserve credit for is not promoting GG or Saunders, other than that the search was a complete mess that ended with the promotion of a guy who had never even been an OC to head coach. It turned out great, but do you really think Zorn would be our coach if Spagnola, Cowher (who just this week said that Snyder did in fact contact him to Peter King), or any of the other big names had wanted the job? I'm glad they didn't I love Zorn and think we got a great coach, but don't tell me Zorn was their #1 choice and the type of guy they were targeting. Having Horton become an instant starter and impact player is a lucky find. Not having a plan behind Daniels, having him get inevitably injured again, trading for Taylor and having him flop and then having a obscure journeyman exceed his history/expectations to contribute as a starter is luck, to have McIntosh return to the starting lineup so quickly and Rogers return from a career threatening injury to play at a level he never before showed in his career when initially they thought it could be midseason for both of them is luck, to have our oline be basically healthy to date is lucky, to have both Moss and ARE stay healthy until now is luck.

the only thing they deserve credit for is committing to JC and bringing in a guy with a history of helping young qbs to be his coordinator, and then out of necessity making him the head coach.

I'm about as negative a person when it comes to this front office but If I grill them when they are wrong then I can't pass it off as luck when they nail it.

Fact is they nailed Zorn (so far) and it's not like it was a Spagnolo pick or anything. They pulled him out of their hat. For that they deserve praise.

No beantown, signing mid career decently productive guys like Griffin and ARE and Washington and Springs is good work. Drafting guys like Cooley and Rogers and McIntosh, and Landry, and Sean, and JC were very good.

But not having a plan behind an old injury prone Daniels, is very bad, not having plan if Rocky doesn't come back, or if Marcus spent most of the season out again (don't tell H.B. Blades was the one plan at two spots), not having a plan for if Rogers couldn't come back or if injury prone Springs struck again, don't tell have Reed Doughty as your starting safety is a good plan, don't tell me not adding one veteran option to a thin receiving core was good, and finally don't tell me having no legitimate backup at center and relying on a rookie or Fabini at both guard spots and an undrafted second year guy at Tackle is good if any of your starters go down is good.

It turned out great, but do you really think Zorn would be our coach if Spagnola, Cowher (who just this week said that Snyder did in fact contact him to Peter King), or any of the other big names had wanted the job?++

So it was a mess because they didn't panic and took their time looking at every possible option (and a few impossible ones) to settle on the guy that has us 6-2? I mean none of us really honestly know what was going on during the search, so how many big names turned us down and how many big names did we turn down? And does it all matter anyway? They grabbed Zorn as soon as they realized they liked the guy and they were smart enough to promote him when nothing else was working out.

++ Having Horton become an instant starter and impact player is a lucky find. ++

Sure lucky, but we liked him well enough to pick him which allowed luck to play it's course.

++ Not having a plan behind Daniels, having him get inevitably injured again, trading for Taylor and having him flop and then having a obscure journeyman exceed his history/expectations to contribute as a starter is luck++

Is it? Evans was always a solid backup/replacement. So we had a plan behind Daniels... he is playing now. Just because we didn't foresee a season ending injury during training camp isn't bad management. Now the Taylor deal is a whole seperate issue. We signed him to get back our depth at DE (any team would have picked up someone) and had some bad luck that he got hurt too. Nobody saw that one coming.

++ to have McIntosh return to the starting lineup so quickly and Rogers return from a career threatening injury to play at a level he never before showed in his career when initially they thought it could be midseason for both of them is luck, to have our oline be basically healthy to date is lucky, to have both Moss and ARE stay healthy until now is luck.++

So according to you, All the injuries across the NFL hampering teams is bad management because they didn't foresee them all and didn't replace the injured players prior to the season with someone who wasn't going to be hurt and we are just lucky because we haven't had those injuries our FO was too dumb not to pre plan for??

Ever hear of a 53 man roster limit??? Salary cap??

The luck occured last year with the Jansen/ Thomas injuries that brought in Kendall and allowed Heyer to develop faster so that this year we have better depth at the O-line
