Skins Trade The Pick
More details to come. Guessing the Skins get Atlanta's second round pick, and something else.
UPDATE - Get Falcons, 34th, 48th picks in the second round, plus a 4th rounder)
The tackle Atlanta took is a bit of a reach, and the Skins still have a tackle they like, Duane Brown of Va tech, who they could probably get with their second, second round pick.
It was a shrewd appraoch to look for more value and depth, with a lot of holes to fill in this draft. I could have seen taking Jenkins, because he could be a stud, but given what positions they have to fill, it made sense not to take a WR here with so much deopth.
Merling might still be there in 10 picks or so, too.

Great. And I don't even know what extra picks they got.
At this point, no one jumps out at you except perhaps Meddenhall.
Posted by: Steve | April 26, 2008 5:30 PM | Report abuse
What did they get in the trade?
Posted by: Greg | April 26, 2008 5:31 PM | Report abuse
Atlanta reached for Baker at #21 because all th other OT are gone.
Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 5:31 PM | Report abuse
Wow. I hope they made a good deal on this trade.
Posted by: JustMe | April 26, 2008 5:31 PM | Report abuse

Good job front office! But what did we get?
Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 5:31 PM | Report abuse
What are we getting from Atlanta?
Posted by: Annie | April 26, 2008 5:31 PM | Report abuse
Here's my guess-- our 1st and 2nd for Atlanta's 3 2nd rounders.
Then we get Duane Brown, Trevor Laws, and Jordy Nelson!
Posted by: TDawg | April 26, 2008 5:32 PM | Report abuse
I can't believe the Cowgirls get Mendenhall. Dangit
Posted by: kreitmaster | April 26, 2008 5:32 PM | Report abuse
details please!
Posted by: chris larrY | April 26, 2008 5:32 PM | Report abuse
IMO they at least got the #3 pick in the 2nd round which would give the Skins two second round picks. Hopefully they picked up an extra 5th or 6th round pick too.

Posted by: chris larrY | April 26, 2008 5:33 PM | Report abuse
Come on....what we get?
Posted by: Greg | April 26, 2008 5:33 PM | Report abuse
We better have gotten more than that Chris. That would be a terrible trade.
Posted by: kreitmaster | April 26, 2008 5:33 PM | Report abuse
'Good job front office, but what did we get?' How does this make sense? How is a trade good when you don't know what it is?
Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 5:33 PM | Report abuse
Think about how the Iggles made out like bandits-- next year's 1st, this year's 2nd and 4th? Would it be outrageous to get 2 of ATL's 2nd rounders and a 6th?
Posted by: TDawg | April 26, 2008 5:34 PM | Report abuse
so you would trade down 12 slots to just pick up a 5th. that would be stupid
Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 5:34 PM | Report abuse
our redskins? trading a pick? i don't know if i believe it...

Posted by: kreitmaster | April 26, 2008 5:35 PM | Report abuse
The FO move is making me feel more confident abouth the skins's future.
Posted by: marlonjohn | April 26, 2008 5:35 PM | Report abuse
How insightful of JLC... second rounder and something else... ummm... no sh*t
Posted by: obrien | April 26, 2008 5:35 PM | Report abuse
ESPN reporting the Cowgirls may draft a CB and not a RB.
Since the Skins likely got the #3 pick in the second round there's IMO a chance Thomas or Kelly will be available then. If not, the WR out of Cal might be a good pick. I sure would have liked to have seen them address the disaster at DL though. They can't keep living off the re-treads on the DL. The Skins IMO never properly addressed the DL under Gibbs 2.0.

Hopefully thats good news...

they get both of atlanta's second rounders and atl. 4th rounder. Not bad, we get three second rounder, two third and two fourths!

2+2+4!
Even better. Rebuild thru the draft, Kids. Now just get someone to draft for them!
Posted by: Corkczar | April 26, 2008 5:39 PM | Report abuse
So, we have:
3 2nd round picks
2 3rd round picks
1 4th round pick
1 5th round pick
1 6th round pick
3 7th round picks?
Am I adding this up correctly?

We fleeced them according to the trade value chart. Our 21 is worth 800 points.
The 34th, and 48th are worth 980 points, and I'm not even including the fourth rounder.

5:39 is correct. We get two seconds and a fourth, we give up a third and a fifth, i believe the earlier third
Posted by: kreitmaster | April 26, 2008 5:40 PM | Report abuse
Will some of you shut the hell up. Seriously..you don't what the atmosphere is like out there where Jason is..having to work the phones and get details. Things can be happening on the fly. As someone who works in the media and has friends who work the draft..it's chaotic at times.
Try having a little patience and let the man do his job otherwise shut up and watch the draft. Geez. Take a chill pill and call me in the morning.

Sugar. Okay. we don't have the 3rd or 5th. That's cool. I really like those 3 picks in the 2nd round.
Posted by: JustMe | April 26, 2008 5:41 PM | Report abuse

Question: We get Atlanta's 2 second rounders, did we give them our 2nd rounder (in other words, did we swap 2nd rounders) and give up our first?
Posted by: wemiss21 | April 26, 2008 5:42 PM | Report abuse
Really great trade. Nicely done by the front office. Credit where credit is due, they really fleeced the Falcons...

The Skins gave up more than their 1st round pick.
Posted by: skinfanman | April 26, 2008 5:43 PM | Report abuse
This reminds me of the days of Jimmy Johnson trading 1st rounders for more picks. That turned out pretty well. I'm happy with the move.

this isnt a great move if we gave up 1st 3rd and 5th just for 2 2nds and a 4th

If thats' the deal, it's just an OK deal, not a steal. Again, it depends on who they pick. The Second Round (Lightning Round) Should be interesting...

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! No reach for a WR. Thank God! Once Otah was off the board, trading this pick made nothing but sense. Now we have 2x #2s, and 2x #3s. We can add young, healthy bodies to the depth chart. This was an EXCELLENT MOVE by Ceratto and Co. Just Excellent. Take a look at the new ESPN Value for draft position chart - Redskins got a slam dunk steal on this one. Vinny!!!! Great move! I'm wearing my burgundy and gold tomorrow!

We probably get to rights to Vick if and when he gets out of jail....We must have the dumbest front office in all of football.....no make that the entire world...

Now they got it, what will they do with it? Not too sure this Blue Book will get an A. I am not too confident.

"the Skins still have a tackle they like, Duane Brown of Va tech, who they could probably get with their second, second round pick."
The San Diego pick just exposed your lack of football knowledge yet again.

Dumb Dumbs. It it a great move. The same players they could've selected at 21st will be there at 34th and picked up an extra 2nd and 4th. It's a smart move!!!!
