It's the Monday of Dallas Week and Jason Reid takes a look ahead. Maske, by the way, was at the Dallas-Green Bay game last night.

Did JLa really call the NFL to ask if Vinny had violated tampering rules?

This is according to Vinny on this mornings radio show.

J-Lac vs. Vinny "The Chameleon" Cerrato

in a 3 round 5-minute each steel cage match.

Who do you put your money on ????

Posted by: Slippery Richard | September 22, 2008 10:43 AM | Report abuse

Is he called "The Chameleon" because he can move one eye around in circles while the other eye remains still ?

Posted by: Earl Sugarloaf III | September 22, 2008 10:44 AM | Report abuse

Vinny would probably fight dirtier and is in better shape.

If this is true about JLa, I totally lost respect for him, that's just low. I actually like the guy, but if this is true I totally agree with everybody else, he's a big time Skins hater. He shouldn't be on the Redskins beat.

One of the other poster's was right, his job is to report news not create it!

Posted by: joeblazin | September 22, 2008 10:49 AM | Report abuse

Flounder,

I understand how it can be viewed as told by Vinny. But JLC calling to find out if the Skins are being investigated by the league isn't exactly outside the realm of his responsibility.

All I will say about the whole situation is:

1. What comes out of Vinny's mouth is not gospel. (Just ask Grilliams)

2. I don't know if JLA was told to by his boss'.

3. I don't know if he heard something from someone around the league about the possibility of such and did his due diligence.

Like I said, I think neither side is lilly white on this. This strikes me as an SJK contest by two people who take themselves very seriously. I personally believe what comes from JLC's mouth a lot more than the skins FO. They like to spread rumors and discredit.

Having said that, if JLC did call to report the skins then obviously that would cross the line.

Dude, come at me direct, not the fake post route...so lame...

I don't silence anyone, but I can vocally disagree. And the reason to be anti Warner is b/c of his intolerance...

but whateves...All hail Kurt Warner....what an a-hole I am for being anti another teams QB....please get back to trashing our QB...

I think J-La would prolly find a way to put Vinny in a shabingus head lock and then Lil' Danny would sneak into the ring and come from behind and whack J-La over the head with a racquetball racket ! HUH ?

Not that i am on either side, but knowing Jasno penchant to want to jump on a story and make the FO look bad, did someone 'float' him that idea and he ran with it wo confirming...

I know, very conspiracy etc... but jasno is smart enough to know how this would make him look if he just made it up...

maybe J reid has some splainin' to do..

Actually, it was ME who called the NFL offices.

Posted by: Jayson Blair | September 22, 2008 10:56 AM | Report abuse

Looks like its all been said. Good work up here.

I was at the game, and they don't replay plays with penalties or injuries on the screen, so I didn't see what happened to Heyer, either on the unsportsmanslike or the shoulder injury. Truth be told, though, he did an awesome job (viewing the game as a whole) handling the Cards best two D-linemen, Dockett and LaBoy. I was very proud of our beasty OT (with his Baby Huey physique). On the injury, I couldn't figure out what happened. It looked like he got the wind knocked out of him, but he was nowhere near where there should have been any action on that play. Maybe it was some out-of-area payback by Dockett?

Also, on one of the KO returns, it was hilarious to watch Thrash held by two Cards ... Thrash looking right into the eyes of the ref, essentially stood up and pointing to the guys. I brought a radio (delay sucks) and one of those guys remarked "Trash could not have been more publicly held."

Isn't Vinny on now? Can someone post the link?

Still not buying what you are selling, if there were rumors about tampering by the Skins it would have been reported somewhere. This was JLC trying to light a torch and get the Skins FO in trouble plain and simple.

Hey I love to talk Skins with you Alex and Chris Larry.
But Anonymous does bring up a valid point.

Why is it Warner is an A-hole for criticizing certain behaviors, but when Chris Larry and Alex criticize Warner, could not someone just as fairly say,
"Alex and Chris Larry are self-righteous A-holes because they criticize Kurt Warner's behavior and beliefs as inferior to theirs!"

I'm confused ...Help me out here?

Posted by: RedskinRay1 | September 22, 2008 11:02 AM | Report abuse

It was a great game for watching ... other than the last few minutes in Week Two, the Skins lead in the first quarter was the first real lead of the season. Even when they were down by 3 for a little while, it felt like they were in the lead the whole time, including when they were tied.

Also, when Heyer was on the ground injured, Jansen ran out to the huddle and didn't even look down at Heyer.

Finally, when Yoder motioned, I remarked to my buddy how they should throw a TD to Yoder. And they did. I repeat, Yoder is invisible to other teams as a receiver ... to their peril. Love Yoder.

Ray,

I have no problem with how Warner lives his life or his values, nor do I with 99% of the world. If you are living a life that makes you happy and does not cause unjust harm to anyone else, then I got no problem with you.

The problem is that he does not claim at all that his teammates lifestyle is effecting their game, he just ripped them for their life style, and the people of Amsterdam for their lifestlye, regardless of game play. The teammates he criticized are the teams he has been on that won the championships not the losing teams he had.

His wife called in a radio show to say Martz should be fired when they were with the Rams. Thats a different story all together.

Does that make more sense?

This is just the sad microcosm of the larger problem... communication. Most beat reporters would be able to ask the FO if they are, or the Fo could ask Jla if he really did that.

But because one wronged the other, or however it played out, they BOTH look stupid and childish.

The nfl must be lauging at them both.

Well put Skinz. Those who wish to see a free press censored usually start by criticizing the nature of the questions asked.

If the person being questioned or inquired about hasn't got anything to hide, or hasn't done anything wrong, then he has nothing to fear from tough questioning, even unfair questioning.

But when someone constantly whines about the QUESTIONS, chances are pretty good he has something to hide.

So who would you chumps expect to break a story about a tampering accusation against our Skins? That's right, the beat reporter.

So, what should a beat reporter do if he suspects that his team might be investigated for tampering? Wait until it's reported by the AP? Wait until the League issues a press release? Well, you might actually call up the league and fish around.

Is this the same as accusing your team of tampering? Probably not, huh?

Maybe he should just read the comments on this blog to get all his stories. Yes, that would be better.

Hey Alex,
Thanks for jogging my memory.
I now do recall something about Warner's wife and Martz.

But then again, my wife has said some things, that I have had to tell her, I don't believe the same way about that particular issue....

Alex and Chris Larry, In all fairness to Warner, would Darrell Green or Art Monk have been wrong to distance themselves from the terrible behaviors of Barry Wilburn and Dexter Manley? Would 28 and 81 have been wrong to call those behaviors, "bad behaviors"? "Immoral Behaviors?"

and if the skins keep winning it'll be bad news for jason lacanfora. unfortuantely. unless he gets down on his knees right now and starts begging for mercy. with this jason's passed czabe. cuz atleast czabe is a skins fan and it shows. he was critical of the FO but he is/was always a fan.

JLA, I can't believe you are so bitter and vindictive. You obviously have had a beef with Cerrato and the Redskins Organization. If you actually contacted league offices to inquire about whether the Skins tampered, just because Cerrato talked about Lane Kiffin's situation on Friday, that is pathetic and you should be off the Skins beat immediately. Stop acting like a little punk... Not that this riduclous attempt would go anywhere, but the fact that you would want the Skins to lose draft picks is appauling...

If Vinny is right (he's admitted to misrepresenting the truth in public when it benefited the organization), then Jasno's complaint to the league raises serious questions of journalistic integrity. But (as most of you would say) you knew that. Let's not just swallow whole Vinny's version of the story.

Anyhoo, I'd much rather talk about football, especially after such a solid win. Dallas will be tough.

My issue is how he did it, in a book he wrote. He also strikes me as a guy who struggles to take fault himself, I can't remember him ever saying "my fault".

I can't remember what 28 & 81 ever said publicly about Dexter, did they say anything? I probably would not fault them for going after Dexter, but thats because of my bias as a fan of there's for their game. I have no bias against Warner for any team he was on or anything, just based on his criticism of people he is in no position to criticize.

I guess its all a question of if you have a problem with one person telling another what their social and moral values should be. As a socially liberal person I do, if you are not "socially liberal" than you probably wouldn't.

Harsh,

Looks like if Vinny is telling the truth he did not call to inquire about a tampering charge but the NFL told Vinny he accused them of tampering. Which makes sense because after JLC call the NFL called the Skins to let them know JLC had eccused them of tampering, but they were not going to investigate because there was no merit to the accusation.

The latest post from Cooley's blog. HTTR!!!

Like BTO, we're taking care of business. Taking care of business every day. We just finished off what could have been the most underrated home stand I've ever been a part of. The 2008 Cardinals are an outstanding football team, a team that nobody should be surprised to see win their division. Lets also not forget that the Saints are within 7 points of being 3-0 and being considered one of the best teams in the game.

We're becoming a team. Not just a bunch of Redskins walking around with a swagger saying we have enough talent to beat anybody, but a team. We're a group of men that will go to work and we've proved it the last two weeks while we've worn down our opponents in the fourth quarter. Of course we can become more consistent, and that's exactly what we will do as we continue through this season, but I think I speak for everyone to say it's been an awesome feeling putting teams away.

A little more to the tune of my game, I was excited to be a big part of the offense again this week, and think I can keep getting better and better. I had a chance to get into the end zone if I would have just went up over the top. Really, when I saw the blocking set up I felt like I was going to sneak in, their safety came down an hit me on the hip, but I'm gonna be pissed when I see it on film. At least I can say I sacrificed the touchdown for Yoder, a trade that I would make anytime.

I was stoked to make the catch at the end of the game. I love that Z man will get after defenses with the game on the line. When JC called the play in the huddle I looked at the O-Line promising them I would get the first down. Before the play started I knew there would be no one in the flat, they lined with a safety in the middle of the field so the corner on my side was going to have to run off with the receiver. I have to give a run fake on the linebacker who had me in man coverage and he bit hard down inside. It was actually a tough throw for J who had to roll to his left and squirm his body around to get me the ball. Once it was in my hands I knew the game was over, but I was trying to score, no Brian Westbrooks here, I was going for the end zone. I mean, I already gave up my fantasy points to Yods! Really I was just so happy we could finish off another one.

With it officially being Dallas week we got to gear it up again. I mean really gear it up. Coming into last week the Cards were 2-0 and the motto for the game was "the 0 must go." It worked pretty well for us so I'm sure we'll stick with it. The 0 must go for big D, and we're gonna get after it. Not much of a break for the Skins, team run today is at 11:15. I'm sure the gassers are gonna feel so good!

Not that there is anything interesting or exciting to discuss re: what Jimzorn and the 53 guys on the roster did yesterday (give or take one punter who may not be on the roster next week), but I think it would be a legal impossibility to tamper with the head coaching situation in Oakland. Al Davis' mind is tamper-proof. The man is insane. That said, whether Kiffin is fired or not depends on how sadistic Davis really is. Davis certainly WANTS to fire him, but he's quite ambivalent about it because he does not want to pay out the entire contract.

The hard question was not asked of Vinny this morning ... is there ANYBODY other than Santana Moss with ANY experience (including high school) returning punts (other than Byron Westbrook) because of the SUBSTANTIAL RISK of injury to already THIN depth in the WR corps? [My question would have been about why there aren't any water foundations in FedEx.]

Hello Alex and Chris Larry,
Alex you bring up an interesting aspect to the story.

You mention he wrote a tell-all book.
Never read it or saw it, so to that aspect of this I plead ignorance.

If 28 and 81 really cared about Manley and Wilburn I think they would first go to them.
If they did not change their behaviors, then 28 and 81 would not have been wrong to have gone to team officials about their behavior.

And finally at some point when asked "Do you agree w/ __________ as an acceptable behavior?" It is not puritan or self-righteous to state unashamedly that you are intolerant of ____________ behavior.

Each and everyone one of us is intolerant of certain behaviors.

+++Yeah it would be reported somewhere...like maybe by the redskins beat reporter?

Are you saying that there is no situation imaginable that could lead a Skins beat reporter to inquire to the league about possible tampering? No chance at all?

Posted by: Anonymous | September 22, 2008 11:07 AM+++

Hey Anon, these other Anons out at redskin park have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in a free press. They want to control the flow of information, just like the right Wingers running the country.

EVERY dictator, ever military coup starts with the same premise. cut off the "enemy's" communications. Own the press and the airwaves, and tolerate NO DISSENT.

The price of a free press is putting up with the egos and shortcomings of its members. But believe me, it's infinitely preferable to the alternative

From PFT on Laron's brother Dawan:

RAVENS’ LANDRY SPENDS NIGHT AT HOSPITAL
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 22, 2008, 12:22 p.m.
Baltimore Ravens safety Dawan Landry was carted off the field yesterday after a scary moment in which his helmet was hit by the knee of Browns running back Jamal Lewis.

After the game a team spokesman said Landry suffered a spinal cord concussion but has “neurologically recovered.” Reports today said that he spent last night at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, and that he has feeling in all his extremities.

Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs said afterward that the Baltimore defense rallied as a result of the play, and that the players on the front seven blamed themselves for letting Lewis by them on the play.

Sure it does. A Free Press even allows you to post unsupported, unfounded accusations like that.

Unless you were sitting next to JLA when he called--which I doubt--or unless you were sitting next to the league official when he called--which i doubt--unless you tapped one or the other's phone--in which case you wouldn't be bothering with us--you have made something up out of whole cloth.

If Jason were a private citizen, he could sue you for libel, and probably win. Since he is a public figure, he'd have to prove actual malice, which is more difficult. Besides, you could probably plead stupidity and make a valid case for yourself.

Anyway, it's Dallas week, so who cares?

First off...JLC picked the Cards to win and he must be forced to EAT IT!!! Punk JLC wanted the Cards to win.
Honestly, I have always tried to give him credit on doing his job, but all he does is HATE. His tone is tiring and annoying. Even after we win a good game, he throws in a few cheap shots and Now he calls in a Tampering Charge against the FO.
JLC...Dude, yeah...we won, but you dont need to get so upset that you make an ass out of yourself and your reputable paper.
I hope the Redskins ban his ass from Redskinpark.

Look at all these fake fans sending praise. I've seen all the comments since this preseason. "Bench Campbell and put in Colt!" What a bunch of dummies. After Week one's disaster, everyone pretty much on here called for Campbell's head. Again I saw this same Jason Campbell last year at Dallas when we lost by 5 points. Jim Zorn talked to Campbell after week 1 and he figured out the correct way to use his quarterback. Campbell is da truth! Joe Gibbs and Al Saunders were 2 old timers who didn't see eye to eye. I'm glad Saunders is gone, his offense was lousy. I'm glad Gibbs is gone, you don't see the Bears bringing back Mike Ditka.

Now my friends about the game, Campbell had a huge game. Everyone got involved on the offense. Defense came up big again at the end of the game. Heyer's penalty was bad, but the Skins were able to run the clock out and win. Dallas will be a huge game next week. Go Skins!!

Original Barno here...first comments on here in a while. (though there've been many made under the "barno" handle by barno imposters)

First, nice meeting Zebra at the game in sect 138 yesterday. His crew and mine made for a loud tandem with comments that got me in trouble with the moms in the area on at least one occasion.

Second, OOGE win yesterday. We are still a 10 win team and yesterday just confirmed my belief.

Third, my voice is completely gone today, after yelling at BMitch after the game outside Fed Ex almost as much as I yelled at the refs and cards for 3 hours earlier.

Hail!

Off topic but I have to chime in. What's up with the 10 greatest moments in Cowboys-Redskins history involving 5 losses?! Certainly those aren't great moments for 'Skins fans. Here's one of my personal favorites...

Nov. 5, 2006
Fantastic Finish: Tied 19-19 against Dallas, Troy Vincent blocked a last second field goal attempt by Dallas that would have given the Cowboys the win. Sean Taylor scooped up the ball and ran 30 yards, weaving his way past tacklers. A Dallas penalty gave second-year kicker Nick Novak--who moments earlier had missed a 49-yard attempt--a chance to win it for the Redskins with no time left on the clock. He did just that, with a 47-yard field goal just inside the uprights, lifting Washington to a 22-19 win.

JLAC rules and its VINNIE who has been tampering with the success of the Redskins for the past 9 years.
At least JLAC has the stones to call out the Skins management who has done nothing for the Redskins success except to buy them. And what skill is that?

Since the guy obviously does not like the Redskins and at times seems to have an agenda, why not change his duties to cover another team? Really getting sick of this guy.
