Snyder introduces Allen (updated)

Owner Daniel Snyder introduced Bruce Allen, calling him a tireless worker and a proven winner. Here's a quick, live transcript (we'll be updating, so keep refreshing):

Allen on Coach Jim Zorn: "I met today with Jim Zorn. Told him what we're going to try to do in the next few weeks. We're going to have some more meetings and discuss the future."

Allen's impressions about the Redskins: "From afar, I like their talent. They have a nice core of talent here. That's attractive. They have some young players whose futures are extremely bright."

On having the title of general manager, something that hasn't happened with the Redskins under Snyder: "I really cant speak for what's occurred in the past. I'm very comfortbale with it. The Redskins will have a common goal," which is bringing in good players and winning.

Snyder interjected that this is something he's been thinking about for a while.

On the team's record: "I've seen the games, but I obviously haven't felt the pain that's been associated with 4-9. Starting today, I feel the pain."

On why he came in now, Allen said he wants to begin to build a plan and get ready for 2010. That's why coming in now, with three weeks left, was appealing to him, Allen said.

Snyder: "Obviously this has been a very disappointing season. We disappointed everybody. Ourselves, fans." With everything that happened, it was time for change.

On Jon Gruden and replacing Jim Zorn: "We don't have an opening at that position...Jim Zorn is our coach...give us some time to see our relationship develop."

Snyder: Bruce has the authority. When Bruce madkes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

Snyder on Vinny Cerrato and whether he was offered a lesser position in the organization: "The best way to put it is it was time for a change."

Snyder and Allen would not directly address reports about Mike Shanahan being the leading candidate for the head-coaching job; Snyder indicated that a decision about Zorn's future will be made by Allen. Snyder indicated that the Redskins interviewed several candidates for the GM job.

We'll be back with more shortly. The presser ended after about 20 minutes.

Has anyone seen a good analysis of how well BA drafted while in TB?

Wait a minute. Are you saying the GM talked to the coach and proposed more conversations? Can they do that?

Posted by: RedSkinHead | December 17, 2009 2:44 PM | Report abuse

Wow...how many of you thought Snyder wouldn't do it?

Also, I'm setting the over/under at a week until folks start complaining about Bruce Allen.

It's very sad. =(

Happy day because Vinny is gone but also a sad day for the NFL. ;(

If not, then why make it your point to point and laugh at the dude after he dropped his lunch tray in the cafeteria?

Because both (Barno's predictions/his sanctimonious attitude towards other fans as well as the kid dropping his lunch tray in the cafeteria) are both extremely funny.

That's why.

Yeah, I am personally hoping to see the rest of the season play out like it has for the past few weeks. JC and the youngsters have been rolling for the past few weeks, with the “new” playcalling. I would live to see upsets over NY and Dallas….couldn’t care less about beating the chargers. Don’t see Allen coming in and making any big changes from day 1…..

"Starting today, I feel the pain." Heckuva thing to say your first day on the job. It doesn't quite rise to the lofty heights of "maroon and black," but that statement has so many layers!!!!

Dan Snyder finally listened to his fan base. It's obvious by the 'GM' in his job title. That, to me, is a tip o' the cap to the fan base.

There is hope for us yet. Thank you Mr. Snyder.

Now, STAY THE F*CK OUT OF PERSONEL MATTERS!

Allen on Coach Jim Zorn: "I met today with Jim Zorn. Told him what we're going to try to do in the next few weeks. We're going to have some more meetings and discuss the future."

What wasn't said, "I've got one meeting in particular that I have circled on my calendar. It takes place the day after the regular season ends. Should be a good meeting - very productive, and I think, good for the long term future of the Redskins. I'm just giddy over it."

And some old players whose futures are extremely dim.

Notice that he didn't say anything about Rock? Wait for next Rock post: "I been in the doghouse around here, and I'm still in the doghouse. I ain't talkin to the coaches. Only to the reporters. And LaVar."

Here's un-expert analysis

Zorn stays one more year, if no playoff win - he's gone

Then we hire Gruden

Posted by: noonefromtampa | December 17, 2009 2:50 PM | Report abuse

Dude - how can you be so dense? "DMV lovers" refers to those like yourself who love the dud - he gives you hardon. Not those the dud loves. Dud don't love no one except hisself. That obvious.

Channeling Beantown here, but can someone back that up with some facts, proof... something?

Just because you don't think he the second coming doesn't mean that you hate or are complaining about the guy.

You're just a little skeptical. Besides there is no reason to drink the kool-aid anymore this season. Mine as well save some of those packets for this coming offseason.

'Cause I plan on chugging the kool-aid.

Well we all got what we've been hoping, praying, wishing, begging, imploring for; just a note to Bruce Allen; keep your brother(George) away from Fed Ex and Ashburn if you know what's good for you(not a threat mind you just a word to the wise) now what is the next move and is Zorn on the clock and does Allen turn over the play calling duties back to Zorn?(Don't do it Bruce it's a trap!!) or let the Bingo caller continue his streak, Monday night will be interesting with Gruden in the booth(but for how long)commenting on the game and other things including rumours galore should be fun.

I listened to the radio stream. Dan Snyder orginally said "When we make a decision..." then he corrected himself and said "when Bruce makes a decision...". I'm surprised JReid didn't quote that part of his statement but it came out like that.

Just sayin..

Heres hoping that the new GM will decide on some continuity on this team, We don't need yet another "system" to be learned. Zorn, Campbell, and a few beast Olinemen next year should equal playoffs. If no playoff wins then we start again at square one. Coaching changes would be Sherm Lewis Offensive Coordinator and play caller. Sherm Smith - running backs coack. Sorry Stump.

Exactly, frankly I don't care who the next coach is, I don't care what the decision about Campbell is, I don't care what the draft picks are going to be. For now, I'm just going to savor this day knowing that the bug eyed imp is finally gone. This is a great day for the Redskins, lets just enjoy. All the other decisions will take care of themselves down the road, but today is a better day in Redskins land then yesterday!
