Source: Redskins hire scout Richard Mann II

While the Redskins parted ways with two scouts today, they added at least one new employee. The team has hired Richard Mann II, who served the past three seasons in Tampa Bay's scouting department, according to a league source.

Mann II was originally hired in Tampa Bay by Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen. He's the son of former Bucs receivers coach Richard Mann, who was recently a candidate to join the Redskins staff but ultimately was not hired.

Mann II carried the title of personnel assistant in Tampa, serving as a liaison between the area scouts and the team's personnel department. He also assisted with the evaluation of prospects.

Die-Hard Skins fan from NVA.
Have lived in CFL for awhile now.
The Bucs scouting and drafting was not good at all for the last 5 years.

Why hire this guy firing Don Warren?
Because it is who Bruce Allen knows apparently.

Hope this works out well.

Still can't believe they fired Donny Warren on his birthday. I assume this is Allen and Shanahan calling the shots now but man, they are snakebit with the tone-deaf ways of D. Snyder.

Between suing Grandma, the cheerleader/soldier story, the signs and really, too many other transgressions to even mention, it's nuts how this organization is perceived on the outside, yet they just keep lighting matches and throwing oily rags onto the inferno.

Oh well, let's hope we see some on field improvement soon.

You guys are making Snyder happy. D McNabb Redskin's jersey is second best in sales in April.

Tim Tebow already leads the league in something

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on May 5, 2010 4:06 PM ET
No, the headline isn't referring to dollars per autograph.

Tim Tebow is already generating big dollars for the NFL in jersey sales. He was the most popular jersey for sale by far on the NFL's website in April, despite not having a jersey for most of the month.)

Among veterans, it's no surprise Ben Roethlisberger has dropped out of the top 25. Donovan McNabb's new jersey for the Redskins was the second best seller, while McNabb's replacement Kevin Kolb jumped all the way to No. 12.

In related news, McNabb had the best selling jersey last month at Philadelphia garage sales.

There’s gonna be a big bon fire in the parking lot the day that the Skins come up to Philly. I was there for the first game in Philly where Trotter was on the Skins and they were burning his jerseys all over the place…..I can’t imagine how many Mcnabb jerseys will get lit up.

So what they if they fired him yesterday and the news came out on his birthday.

It's a pub blunder. It shows lack of consideration, even if the chap deserved to fired.

What did ole' Donny do to Bruce and Shanny to have it publicized that they canned his butt on his Birthday.

Hell, fire Albert on his Birthday, people would understand that, but not the scout Donnie Warren whom is a Redskin pillar.

Oh! Oh! Oh! How quick I forget. Didn't another Redskin pillar leave this Org' on a sour note. I guess if was alright the way Bobby Mitchell left, so Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan shouldn't have to care how the firing of people looks.

Just another day in the life of a Redskin.

And I thought this organization was changing.

And I can't believe some of you's people are saying it is okay the way this was handled.

Not so by a longshot.

Any and all knowledge that anyone on this blog has about these kids college careers have been put on the table. It dosent surprise me cause this is a skins blog but no one on this place watches CFB. Not to many people really had much knowledge during the lead up to the draft or after about these players college careers other then what NFL network and ESPn told them. And the Bruce Campbell fans, cause Maryland has a football team apparently.

I guess it shouldn't really surprise me cause this is a skins blog. But people on here really don watch much CFB. This became very clear during the build up to the draft and afterwords. It was amazing how many people were just regurgitating what NFL N and BSPN were throwing out. I understand that these networks hire professionals to analyze these situations but you dont need to repeat all of their thoughts verbatim . Most people on here had little to add on most of these players college careers, except what they heard from talking heads. Oh and that they liked Bruce Campbell, cause apparently Maryland has a football team?

with you on this stu... and trying to learn more. given the set of candidate players this morning, I couldn't tell you bullsh!t about any of them.

might as well post the "final" list for possibilities to make it past the weekend, with qualifications following:

(1) Daryll Clark (PSU QB)
(2) Anderson Russell (OSU S)
(3) Logan Paulsen (UCLA TE)
(4) Melvin Stephenson II (UTEP CB)
(5) Tony Nelson (UMass RB)

having failed at garnering a quorum regarding our pre-camp auditions, I can only report the top five relative rankings based on an infinitesimally small sample size.

if you wanted to be here at the beginning, this was your chance.

my votes were Clark and Russell. no problem rubbing it in my face if I made a mistake.

we know their college stats, so in a sense they've had a chance to prove their worth thus far. few of us have watched them play. and certainly feel free to change these rankings as we progress through tryouts, camp, and pre-season.

players like Joe Jacoby and Jeff Bostic can always prove us wrong.

and as a cheap aside, I noticed that not a lot of the die-hard Marko fans had much to say... it's pretty tough sorting through lower-tier possibilities, even for seasoned RI hacks.

Fair enough Carl. If this is true then it's a non-story, but they really should have announced it at another time PR-wise.

I was mainly commenting on how "Tone Deaf" Snyder's crew has seemed over the last 10 years. They either don't understand how they come across, or they simply don't care. I find it shocking that the custodian of a DC institution like the Redskins makes so little effort to appear more sensitive than he (Snyder) has over the years.

Of course, there's 2 sides to every story, and I know he has done many good things we don't hear about. It just seems like he could save so much hassle by trying a bit harder.

Carry on.

Hello Everyone,
living down here, I thought I'd provide answers to some questions you've been asking regarding Mann's personnel duties.
__________________________________________

Richard Mann II enters his third season with Tampa Bay and first as college personnel assistant. He spent the past two seasons as a personnel assistant for the Buccaneers.

Mann assists in the organization of the Buccaneers area scouts; including monitoring reports and serving as a liaison between the scouts and the personnel department while also providing in-house evaluations on college prospects. Additionally, Mann coordinates pre-draft visits and the organization of college free agents and rookie mini-camp.

Mann’s previous experience in professional football came in the summer of 2003 as a pro personnel intern with the Baltimore Ravens, where he was interlinked with training camp.

Mann is the son of Buccaneers Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers Richard Mann, allowing him the opportunity to be a training camp intern and equipment assistant with the Cleveland Browns in 1993 and Baltimore Ravens in 1997.

Mann completed his master’s degree in sports leadership from Duquesne University in June 2008 and earned his bachelor’s degree in interpersonal communication with a minor in marketing from Salisbury University, where he was a three-year member of the football team, earning All-Conference in 2002, averaging 31.8 yards per kickoff return for the Sea Gulls. Mann also spent one year as a walk-on at Morgan State University before transferring to Salisbury.

Not sure if anyone else posted this before, but hopefully this seals the Marko Mitchell discussion (though I doubt it)...Gary Fitzgerald on Redskins.com answers the question why the team released everyone's favorite 5th string WR:

"Whenever there’s coaching and administration change on an NFL team, some players rise and some players fall. Mitchell was not able to impress Redskins coaches in the April mini-camp and the team subsequently added veterans Joey Galloway, Bobby Wade and Roydell Williams to round out the wide receiver corps. Mitchell did not excel on special teams, another factor in his release."

The Fitzgerald post sounds like what we've been writing up here -- "Mitchell failed to impress the new coaches." That just BEGINS the food fight; doesn't end it. "I demand to know why they weren't impressed. He had better numbers his first year than MK. Why do they think washed-up old guys are better? This is entertainment and they have to convince the fanbase that they know what they're doing. He will star in Detroit which picked him up immediately......"

More hogs, less elitism. Boo to you sir. Let's get real. A University education is not a pre-requisite for intelligent or cogent discourse.

Oh Boy!
As a second tier fan I am so excited that three of our most unworthy players have risen through the ranks to making a team. Three, count them, three have made this Redskin squad for now. McNabb must be so excited to know that he left a terrible corp of wide receivers in Philly to now throw to his new group of studs. And to think last month some of you said that our group receivers are better than Philly’s. You were right all along.
Second tiers score big! Yes

I get the sense more and more that SHANAHAN and ALLEN have a plan and only want players that fit that mould both mentally and physically. Maybe MM wasn't the mental mind-set the staff wanted on the team. Maybe they want ROBOTS who do what they're told and don't question it. Who knows. Somebody does for sure. O.K. REID. now you've got a thesis to work on.

With the addition of Richard Mann, Bruce Allen is intent on continuing his streak of patronage hiring. Who's next to work for the Redskins: Allens's uncle, nephew, niece, 3rd cousin twice removed? What were Allen's achievemenets at Oakland and Tampa? Beats me. Oh by the way, Bruce, I was a real big fan of your Dad's. Can you hire my 75 year old aunt who lives near Redskins Park. She needs a job.
