Springs To Sit (UPDATED)

With the field not in great shape, and no real Ws or Ls on the line, CB Shawn Springs is not going to play. he is dressed and on the sidelines right next to CB Coach Jerry Gray, but with Shawn coming off missing much of last year with a sports hernia, they don't want to risk anything.

Also have asked why Anthony Montgomery is starting at DT over Salave'a or Golston, and I am awaiting words. Most likely the coaches want to get a good look at him and give him a shot with the first team, but I will post whatever I hear.

UPDATE: Okay, they just took Griffin out - who they don't want to risk anything with at all, and who seems primed for a monster year - and have Golston and Montgomery together at tackle now

Welcome to the next post. Refresh time should decrease. F5.

Jasno beats Bram (w/Sonny, Sam, and Larry) on Springs. Has not yet gotten news on Cornelius. Just sayin.

annonymous, if you could get another annonymous to say that i'll shut up.

Posted by: littery | August 25, 2007 9:55 PM | Report abuse

Williams begs St. Joe for the review on the field. The refs SAY it was a completed pass.

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 9:55 PM | Report abuse

So nothing happening on offense for us I take it?

Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 9:55 PM | Report abuse

Yes, nothing happened. Time of possession just shifted over to the Ravens by ... dink and dunk, plus underneath.

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 9:56 PM | Report abuse

Oh, c'mon, you mean they actually do this challenge shabingus in preseason?

I mean, it's preseason

[etc.]

Posted by: cload and daggar | August 25, 2007 9:57 PM | Report abuse

not much sfskin...just one long pass/first play on offense

Posted by: littery | August 25, 2007 9:57 PM | Report abuse

'Skins have one first down, sfskin. 40-yard bomb to Moss. That's about it.

Posted by: Anonymous | August 25, 2007 9:57 PM | Report abuse

That's me at anon above.

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 25, 2007 9:58 PM | Report abuse

SCSF, its littery hisself. notice no caps.

how could balmer not upgrade on the qb??

Posted by: littery | August 25, 2007 9:59 PM | Report abuse

They're attacking Blades... with some success.

Indy 37 Detroit 3 - yep Detroit is definitley going to be a contender this season. . . I know I know it's preseason.

Posted by: cload and daggar | August 25, 2007 10:02 PM | Report abuse

Good luck, Wise. Betts not looking good on blocks.

d played sloppy on this drive. hmmmmmmmmmm

Posted by: littery | August 25, 2007 10:04 PM | Report abuse

Tuned in to the Intraweb radio...I need a fix.

Sounds like the D is really letting them have it...but not a lot of Offense for us either save the completion to Moss.

Posted by: Stumped | August 25, 2007 10:04 PM | Report abuse

cload, this evening (and, gulp, so far this offseason) its me on Detroit. I forgot that defense makes a difference.

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 10:05 PM | Report abuse

I don't like this Wendy's guy. Meanwhile, the green blob on Doppler is getting closer....Stay under the dog, 'Ku.

The Iradio web breaks up quite a bit. So the Raven's scored one.

Who got beat?

Posted by: Stumped | August 25, 2007 10:08 PM | Report abuse

collins over threw ARE who was open down the sideline...3rd and 10 wash 20

Posted by: littery | August 25, 2007 10:09 PM | Report abuse

I know I'm breaking the rules here but GOOAAAAALLLLL GOOOOAAAALLL GOOOAAALLL

The US Women's team just scored on the Finns in one of the prettiest headers I've ever seen. A big arcing loopy header.

I know you don't care. Sorry I can't help it.

Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 10:09 PM | Report abuse

Collins to ARE! Ummm...no.

Posted by: Anonymous | August 25, 2007 10:09 PM | Report abuse

Let me see...

The D gives up a TD to Balmer in the slop without its best corner (Springs), lineman (Griffin), or backer (Fletcher). That sounds okay to me.

Is that accurate? If so, why is Fletcher not playing?

Can't tell from........................here.

Posted by: bangkokben | August 25, 2007 10:10 PM | Report abuse

And now....we are reminded of why he is a backup.

punt

Posted by: littery | August 25, 2007 10:10 PM | Report abuse

some portion of one of the kids' 529s may have gotten into an instrument, the negative return on which, may be involved with the Lions. I still say they have a good mix on the O-side of the ball. And I thought Kitna hurt his knee too. Is he playing (and getting picked?).

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 10:11 PM | Report abuse

Periculum has -- in between Brunell to ATL and Holmes to WAS -- been predicting that the Lions will improve in defiance of all logic, reason, and IMHO several fundamental laws of physics....

At least, I think he has. Maybe I just assign all of these craptastic ideas to him.

Posted by: cload and daggar | August 25, 2007 10:11 PM | Report abuse

Are these 3 IC passes on TC or on receivers?

Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 10:12 PM | Report abuse

Ade!

Posted by: Stumped | August 25, 2007 10:12 PM | Report abuse

Fletcher played some, but they got a lot of guys on the D sdie of the ball where they are going to have to make some hard cuts. Lots of "packages." On that touchdown, Macklin and Jamaal Green were in.

Posted by: littery | August 25, 2007 10:13 PM | Report abuse

cload, Detroit is me. Periculum is Priest Holmes (and Trash as the #3 WR).

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 10:14 PM | Report abuse

Is ARE a receiver or a punt returner?

Posted by: Disappointed. | August 25, 2007 10:14 PM | Report abuse

Why isn't ARE returning punts?

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | August 25, 2007 10:15 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Cindy | August 25, 2007 10:16 PM | Report abuse

Is it just me or do the other RBs run much better than Betts?

Posted by: Betts h8tr. | August 25, 2007 10:16 PM | Report abuse

Collins needs some help with a running game... Each of the three passes were reasonable; the one to Cooley looked more open than it ended up being.

In the regular season, ARE must make the 2nd down grab.

Posted by: cload and daggar | August 25, 2007 10:16 PM | Report abuse

Maybe they're trying to ensure ARE doesn't get hurt and give Eubanks a looksey?

Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 10:16 PM | Report abuse

the WR sighting. got a PI call. 1st and 10 on own 35

Does that mean we have another week from Ricky Bobby on how we let Gaither slip through the slimy hands of the FO?

Posted by: bangkokben | August 25, 2007 10:18 PM | Report abuse

But wasn't ARE brought here specifically to return punts? More suggestions that ARE will be #2 WR.

Posted by: Anonymous | August 25, 2007 10:18 PM | Report abuse

cindy, did you see that? i'm going why is he holding the WHOLE pizza box like that. why doesn't he just open the lid so peep can still see it.

Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 10:24 PM | Report abuse

one thing for shure though. it'll take some weeks like 3 or 4 during the season for the offense to get in synch.

Not a bad half... the Raven touchdown drive will be a good coaching moment for Blades. He didn't do poorly, but he has some work to do... as you would expect from a rookie.

Before you all start ripping the Offense, remember a few things.

1) this is a vanilla offense against the #1 defense in the league.

2) Campbell, Portis, and Samuels are out.

Running game won't be a factor until they start to add more wrinkles. Oline held up a bit better today, especially considering the opponent.

First touchdown of the preseason tonight on Skins' D. Still, lots of guys getting the chance to earn a roster spot (hence the TD). This game has another purpose -- to see if guys can compensate for their personal weaknesses.

I think the weather robs us from really making any of the usual post-3rd pre-season game semi-judgements outside of 2 generic ones:

1. Looks like Skins might have found a solid place kicker based on 2 long FGs, one in the slick conditions.

2. The defense will have to carry this team for the first quarter of the season while the offense gets in sync since so many pivotal starters have not played much.

Beyond that, hard to say much specific.

Posted by: Dante | August 25, 2007 11:01 PM | Report abuse

Sartz with some solid right time/right place play. Field awareness anyway. That officially counts BOTH as a turnover (remember those?) and a touchdown (which is really just a nice bene, but its preseason).

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 11:02 PM | Report abuse

guys, be happy!!! this aint osaka exactly! atleast it means that your backup guys are better than their backup guys. means depth. we have on d.

The verbal man-love going on in the booth is getting a little tight end-ish.

Posted by: Haikuman | August 25, 2007 11:03 PM | Report abuse

what seems to be missing is D-line depth against the run.

The Ravens are nuts for letting a rookie LT protect their QB's blindside! It is supreme incompetence from the entire coaching staff and front office!

US Ladies score again! 3-0 v. Finland.

I'm sure none of you is going to watch the Women's World Cup but I'll tell you that I was at the 1999 final at the Rosebowl against China and it was one of the most phenomenal sporting events/live events I've ever been too.

How many of our starters are still playing D?

Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 11:06 PM | Report abuse

Is Gaither still even on the field? Isn't Balmer playing any O-line depth.

Ogden is hurt, and they probably want to see what Gaither is made of... I was willing to cut him some Clack (thank you Jasno) against the starters, but that was Anthony Trucks who blew by him on the Int/TD...

I mean, we're talkin' Anthony trucks...

I think the US Ladies have like 100 times more the offense than Skins tonight.

Now it's 4-0 and the number of shots on goal has been hooge.

I've always thought it was "psyched"

Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 11:13 PM | Report abuse

They need to call this game for the safety of everyone.

Posted by: Cindy | August 25, 2007 11:13 PM | Report abuse

Needless to say I don't bear any resemblence to this when I play on Saturdays.

I don't remember anything spectacular from Dawan ... or frankly, the entire Ravens' secondary (except for Reed's hit on ARE) was non-memorable. Balmer seemed to get everything they needed to get done by their line and LBs.

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 11:30 PM | Report abuse

Joe Jacoby just coined a new word "veteranship" nice they should put that in the big screen TV ads.

Posted by: Anonymous | August 25, 2007 11:32 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, L1 looked like the real deal to me too, what round did they steal him in?

Posted by: Pulldownclaw | August 25, 2007 11:33 PM | Report abuse

LaRon had a very special special teams night.

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 11:36 PM | Report abuse

Laron is a "very strong" safety.

Posted by: Anonymous | August 25, 2007 11:38 PM | Report abuse

DLandry was something like a 6th rounder. But he's probably their weakest DB -- Reed, McCallister, and Rolle are solid.

Posted by: cload and daggar | August 25, 2007 11:39 PM | Report abuse

Dawan was busy tonight. Rolle was out.

Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 11:41 PM | Report abuse

Dawan knocked that pass out of Cooley's hands...he made a great play.

Posted by: Lisa | August 25, 2007 11:42 PM | Report abuse

They still haven't called the game? What on earth is the point of playing now?

Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 11:45 PM | Report abuse

I'm not sure about "injuries". My impression was that the coaches wanted Montgomery and Golston to play in a lot of the packages ... not just Griffin. Grilliams he likes to rest defensive lineman by rotating them. With those two he has the flexibility to do that at least at tackle. The Griffin could be fresh in the 4th quarter when they would really need his veteran leadership the most.
Same is true at the end position but they just don't have the depth.

Looks like Sartz is going to make the team. Is that it for Khary Campbell?

Not saying DLandry played poorly, just that he'd get picked last in that group.

Breaking up the pass to Cooley was a great play. He also had a couple of tackles behind the line.

Posted by: cload and daggar | August 25, 2007 11:50 PM | Report abuse

No way Khary Campbell gets cut...they love him and he is a great special teams guy.
