Springs To Sit (UPDATED)
With the field not in great shape, and no real Ws or Ls on the line, CB Shawn Springs is not going to play. he is dressed and on the sidelines right next to CB Coach Jerry Gray, but with Shawn coming off missing much of last year with a sports hernia, they don't want to risk anything.
Also have asked why Anthony Montgomery is starting at DT over Salave'a or Golston, and I am awaiting words. Most likely the coaches want to get a good look at him and give him a shot with the first team, but I will post whatever I hear.
UPDATE: Okay, they just took Griffin out - who they don't want to risk anything with at all, and who seems primed for a monster year - and have Golston and Montgomery together at tackle now

some portion of one of the kids' 529s may have gotten into an instrument, the negative return on which, may be involved with the Lions. I still say they have a good mix on the O-side of the ball. And I thought Kitna hurt his knee too. Is he playing (and getting picked?).
Posted by: dcsween | August 25, 2007 10:11 PM | Report abuse
Periculum has -- in between Brunell to ATL and Holmes to WAS -- been predicting that the Lions will improve in defiance of all logic, reason, and IMHO several fundamental laws of physics....
At least, I think he has. Maybe I just assign all of these craptastic ideas to him.

I think the weather robs us from really making any of the usual post-3rd pre-season game semi-judgements outside of 2 generic ones:
1. Looks like Skins might have found a solid place kicker based on 2 long FGs, one in the slick conditions.
2. The defense will have to carry this team for the first quarter of the season while the offense gets in sync since so many pivotal starters have not played much.
Beyond that, hard to say much specific.

Sartz with some solid right time/right place play. Field awareness anyway. That officially counts BOTH as a turnover (remember those?) and a touchdown (which is really just a nice bene, but its preseason).

what seems to be missing is D-line depth against the run.

The Ravens are nuts for letting a rookie LT protect their QB's blindside! It is supreme incompetence from the entire coaching staff and front office!

US Ladies score again! 3-0 v. Finland.
I'm sure none of you is going to watch the Women's World Cup but I'll tell you that I was at the 1999 final at the Rosebowl against China and it was one of the most phenomenal sporting events/live events I've ever been too.
How many of our starters are still playing D?

Ogden is hurt, and they probably want to see what Gaither is made of... I was willing to cut him some Clack (thank you Jasno) against the starters, but that was Anthony Trucks who blew by him on the Int/TD...
I mean, we're talkin' Anthony trucks...

I think the US Ladies have like 100 times more the offense than Skins tonight.
Now it's 4-0 and the number of shots on goal has been hooge.
I've always thought it was "psyched"

I don't remember anything spectacular from Dawan ... or frankly, the entire Ravens' secondary (except for Reed's hit on ARE) was non-memorable. Balmer seemed to get everything they needed to get done by their line and LBs.

DLandry was something like a 6th rounder. But he's probably their weakest DB -- Reed, McCallister, and Rolle are solid.

They still haven't called the game? What on earth is the point of playing now?
Posted by: sfskin | August 25, 2007 11:45 PM | Report abuse
I'm not sure about "injuries". My impression was that the coaches wanted Montgomery and Golston to play in a lot of the packages ... not just Griffin. Grilliams he likes to rest defensive lineman by rotating them. With those two he has the flexibility to do that at least at tackle. The Griffin could be fresh in the 4th quarter when they would really need his veteran leadership the most.
Same is true at the end position but they just don't have the depth.
Looks like Sartz is going to make the team. Is that it for Khary Campbell?

Not saying DLandry played poorly, just that he'd get picked last in that group.
Breaking up the pass to Cooley was a great play. He also had a couple of tackles behind the line.
