I know we have a template for the black mourning patches for 21 and GU but the one for Upshaw looks a little oversized.

Posted by: Alex35332 | September 4, 2008 6:58 PM | Report abuse

The GOP playing Petty is like the Green party playing Nuge.

gholston back in.

Posted by: mnskinsfan | September 4, 2008 7:18 PM | Report abuse

Anybody know of any internet feed of the game? Its 07:18 Friday here, LOL.

Posted by: SkinsfaninManila | September 4, 2008 7:18 PM | Report abuse

Jacobs slaps Marcus in the head and nothing is called, then Toomer pushes of Smoot in the end zone. Oye.

Posted by: etrod | September 4, 2008 7:20 PM | Report abuse

There's that vaunted secondary giving up big third down gains. Just like a couple of seasons ago. They can't peel themselves off the field, which is a problem considering how awful this offense has the potential to be.

Was that sideline pass to Plexico a blown coverage assigning in a zone defense?

Posted by: isnadd | September 4, 2008 7:22 PM | Report abuse

I thought Hochuli looked like his body fat may be up to 6 percent, from 4.

Posted by: Cindy | September 4, 2008 7:22 PM | Report abuse

Update #1

Taylor Looks Ready to Stop

Posted by: SMACK | September 4, 2008 7:23 PM | Report abuse

Third downs already hurting us. They converted a 3rd and 7 and a 3rd and 6 on that drive. We've got to get off the field.

Posted by: Rusty | September 4, 2008 7:23 PM | Report abuse

SkinsfaninManila: You can also catch the game on NFL.COM where they give you a choice of 3 or 4 camera angles.

Posted by: C-Allis | September 4, 2008 7:24 PM | Report abuse

Hey, its only 7. You didn't think we'd get a shutout did ya?

Except for that sack...ugh

Posted by: RITCA | September 4, 2008 7:24 PM | Report abuse

Done...?

Posted by: Alex35332 | September 4, 2008 7:24 PM | Report abuse

The Skins will have to overcome the Giants, the refs, the crowd. Someone called it earlier this week, the Skins will be blown out.

Posted by: Skip in VA | September 4, 2008 7:24 PM | Report abuse

He cannot hold the ball that long.......

Posted by: Cindy | September 4, 2008 7:24 PM | Report abuse

that sack was on Campbell....

Posted by: isnadd | September 4, 2008 7:26 PM | Report abuse

Let's hope that we have a punter in Brooks!

Posted by: c | September 4, 2008 7:26 PM | Report abuse

Did I call it or did I call it this morning???

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:26 PM | Report abuse

Wonderful punt, too. All areas of this team are awful.

Posted by: Colin | September 4, 2008 7:27 PM | Report abuse

Why is Frost wearing Durant Brook's jersey?

Posted by: isnadd | September 4, 2008 7:27 PM | Report abuse

Sad coverage. I think I will just get drunk!

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:27 PM | Report abuse

JC turns his back to to much of the field. is it just me or does he need to rotate his body faster to see as much of the field as possible?

Posted by: Alex35332 | September 4, 2008 7:27 PM | Report abuse

Will the real Redskins show up!!

Posted by: RITCA | September 4, 2008 7:28 PM | Report abuse

RITCA,

I'm afraid you're looking at them.

Posted by: etrod | September 4, 2008 7:28 PM | Report abuse

This game, so far, has lived up to our worst fears.

1st great play from the redskins tonight:

eli calls timeout

Posted by: mnskinsfan | September 4, 2008 7:31 PM | Report abuse

What the hell does press coverage mean? Play 12-15 yards off of the receiver?

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:31 PM | Report abuse

Campbell will not be the starter by season's end. Guaranteed.

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:31 PM | Report abuse

5-11, here we come.

Posted by: JW | September 4, 2008 7:32 PM | Report abuse

Okay TE,

NOW would be a good time for Tryon to intercept.

Posted by: RITCA | September 4, 2008 7:32 PM | Report abuse

Carlos Rogers: The Redskins' answer to Al Harris.......

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:32 PM | Report abuse

is there anything else on tonight?

Posted by: j gibbs | September 4, 2008 7:33 PM | Report abuse

I think the league making the Skins play 6 pre-season games is unfair.

Posted by: isnadd | September 4, 2008 7:33 PM | Report abuse

What the heck? Did Tryon and Rogers switch jerseys?

Posted by: RITCA | September 4, 2008 7:34 PM | Report abuse

Wow, this is going to be a long, long year. Do we get Ball State or Maryland Easter Shore on the schedule?

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:34 PM | Report abuse

1. Take Jason Taylor out 2. Bring back Greg Williams 3. Pray!

Posted by: Coco | September 4, 2008 7:34 PM | Report abuse

Sorry for the team, but couldn't be happier to see it happen to Vinny and Danny!!!

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:34 PM | Report abuse

um, I think landry has tire tracks on his chest.

Posted by: mnskinsfan | September 4, 2008 7:34 PM | Report abuse

Dirty 30 just got a new meaning....

Posted by: Anonymous | September 4, 2008 7:35 PM | Report abuse

Jeez...Jacobs completely trampled Landry...

Posted by: Douglas | September 4, 2008 7:35 PM | Report abuse

Total yards: 116-0 (which actually is an improvement, since it was in negative numbers)

Posted by: Cindy | September 4, 2008 7:35 PM | Report abuse

Wow, this is going to be a long, long year. Do we get Ball State or Maryland Easter Shore on the schedule?

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:34 PM

1. I think we're playing the part of Ball State tonight.

2. Maryland Eastern Shore would give us a run for our money.

Posted by: bloodied | September 4, 2008 7:36 PM | Report abuse

4th, I'm with you...except, this is our beloved Maroon and Black and Yellow!

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:36 PM | Report abuse

Brandon Jacobs...that is power baby.

Going to be a LOOONNG night.

Posted by: Silver Spring. | September 4, 2008 7:36 PM | Report abuse

Frost was right!!!

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:36 PM | Report abuse

Anyone know what plays the westcoast offense uses when your down 14-0?

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:36 PM | Report abuse

"How consistent is London Fletcher?"

Consistently missing tackles am I right guys?

Posted by: bloodied | September 4, 2008 7:37 PM | Report abuse

Remember when Jacobs was a rookie and Tiki gave him a ride in his Benz and he complained that Jacobs ruined the shocks? What a load.

Posted by: Cindy | September 4, 2008 7:37 PM | Report abuse

Sorry, that last post was before the first tackle of the night was made.

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:37 PM | Report abuse

this is much more interesting if you are looking to be distracted by the game.

Best play call down 10-0: quick kick on 3rd down...

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:38 PM | Report abuse

What we need are some of those fabled Jim Zorn halftime adjustments.

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:38 PM | Report abuse

Seriously though,

1. Did anyone expect this wasn't a real possibility?

2. This team is going to take 3 - 4 games to get it together. Let's just hope it's not 34.

3. I'm having some kick a$$ pizza and beer so the evening is still not a total loss so far.

Posted by: isnadd | September 4, 2008 7:39 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:38 PM

Only problem is that halftime is a looong way away!

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:39 PM | Report abuse

Landry is your tough guy? Someone better scrape him off the field. What a joke of a team you all have. HA HA HA!

Posted by: BIG BLUE | September 4, 2008 7:39 PM | Report abuse

Cartwright got Zorned!

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:40 PM | Report abuse

We need an offensive drive like a fat kid needs cake!!!

Posted by: Anonymous | September 4, 2008 7:40 PM | Report abuse

Am i the only one who CANT remember a good Rock Cartright return?? I know he is a GOOD redskin.. But really need to upgrade there.

False starts....... Man........

Posted by: Coco | September 4, 2008 7:40 PM | Report abuse

That's a great West-coast Offense. Go backwards in 5-yard increments!!

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:41 PM | Report abuse

Big Blue, I don't think we have a comeback for you. Enjoy yourself. We're the Arizona Cardinals of the East Coast.

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:41 PM | Report abuse

Now what happened to Landry that was just not right! RIP STaylor. Gosh man, really miss that dude. We needed to keep Saunders and Williams. We're going to be embarrassed tonight. I wish not but it doesn't look too good.

Posted by: bienbo | September 4, 2008 7:41 PM | Report abuse

Zorn is making Spurrier look like Lombardi.

Posted by: GAD | September 4, 2008 7:41 PM | Report abuse

Is it too late to install an East Coast offense?

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:42 PM | Report abuse

I still think Campbell's release motion takes too long...

Posted by: Silver Spring. | September 4, 2008 7:42 PM | Report abuse

3 and out, 3 and out, Zorn is out. Hello Coach Cowher

Posted by: JW | September 4, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

Tell me again how good JC is???

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

Our best offense is getting our punter roughed. Love it.

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

Two false starts in the first quarter? It's like Joe never left.

Posted by: Ted | September 4, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

Brooks got hit so hard he think his name is Derrick Frost.

Posted by: Cindy | September 4, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

WOW, Brooks, welcome to the NFL!

Offensive Player of the Game: Durant Brooks

Posted by: P-Rock | September 4, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

Who knew Durant Brooks was our secret offensive weapon?

He has outgained the offense in the first quarter.

Posted by: isnadd | September 4, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

Jim Zorn has always been a seat warmer for a glamour coach. If you didn't know that, you weren't paying attention.

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:44 PM | Report abuse

Sean Taylor would cover better right now than Carlos Rogers...

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:44 PM | Report abuse

Anyone know what plays the westcoast offense uses when your down 14-0?

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:36 PM
First of all, players need to stay set until ball is snapped. Then you punt and hope for a roughing call.

Posted by: Anonymous | September 4, 2008 7:44 PM | Report abuse

What's with the yellow shoes that some of the defensive guys are wearning, it looks like flags are on the field!!!!

Posted by: Anonymous | September 4, 2008 7:44 PM | Report abuse

Madden: "The Redskins are still using the same Joe Gibbs running game".

Result: 3 yard loss.

ANOTHER SHORT PUNT!

Posted by: Coco | September 4, 2008 7:46 PM | Report abuse

If we are going to look this on offense, I would rather look like this with Colt.

OK, beat me up for that!

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:47 PM | Report abuse

LOL!! What a look on Vinny's ugly puss!!!

Posted by: 4th in the East | September 4, 2008 7:47 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: DEMJ | September 4, 2008 7:50 PM | Report abuse

O-line is a disaster. Running game is a joke. JC won't throw the ball. Secondary is terrible. LBs can't tackle the ball carrier. Brooks can't kick a booming punt. This is all great first-quarter stuff.

Posted by: Colin | September 4, 2008 7:50 PM | Report abuse

Whoa! Double move didn't fall for the double move!

Posted by: bloodied | September 4, 2008 7:54 PM | Report abuse

I don't think John McCain needs to worry about viewers distracted by this game at 10:15p.

Posted by: GAD | September 4, 2008 7:54 PM | Report abuse

Did Al Michaels just say "Jints" up 10 nothing?

Posted by: dlhaze | September 4, 2008 7:54 PM | Report abuse

The Coors Light guys are still on this coach press conference thing? This is like two years old. Bring back the man laws!

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:54 PM | Report abuse

Goodness...can we leave WRs any MORE open?

Posted by: Mo (cleveland) | September 4, 2008 7:54 PM | Report abuse

I refuse to blame what I am seeing on the coach. So far, this is on the players (and I use that word loosely).

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:54 PM | Report abuse

Will the Giants have to punt at all tonight? Doesn't look like it so far.

Posted by: Rusty | September 4, 2008 7:55 PM | Report abuse

First big coverage break down was because of that awful zone. Second big coverage break down was because Smooth got turned around worse than any CB in history has gotten turned around.

Posted by: Colin | September 4, 2008 7:55 PM | Report abuse

Wow we suck. Zorn makes Sarah Palin seem like a good choice for VP.

When does hockey and basketball season start?

Posted by: Pindar | September 4, 2008 7:55 PM | Report abuse

I still can't decide which snoozefest I want to watch more: McCain or this game. Maybe I'll just focus on eating my weight in crab puffs.

Posted by: P Diddy | September 4, 2008 7:55 PM | Report abuse

Oh. Dear.

Posted by: Silver Spring. | September 4, 2008 7:56 PM | Report abuse

Oh yeah, Taylor and Daniels and the rest of the D-line are really getting to the QB. What a wonderful defensive presence up front.

Posted by: Colin | September 4, 2008 7:56 PM | Report abuse

WTF, can we guard anyone? Greg Williams please, a healthy defense please....

Posted by: bienbo | September 4, 2008 7:56 PM | Report abuse

I have NEVER seen a team get walked over this bad.. Every pass is caught, every run gets 5 yards......

Posted by: Coco | September 4, 2008 7:56 PM | Report abuse

By Daniels, I mean Carter.

Posted by: Colin | September 4, 2008 7:57 PM | Report abuse

This is ugly. I am now hoping that we can stay within 21 points.

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:57 PM | Report abuse

Now Smoot catches a ball like Rogers....

Posted by: GAD | September 4, 2008 7:58 PM | Report abuse

Come on butter fingers!! We needed that so bad...

Posted by: bienbo | September 4, 2008 7:58 PM | Report abuse

How do you call yourself a football player and miss that interception.

What is crazy is once we get so far behind we will have to start to throw all the time. Maybe if get an Eli of two years ago we'll be alright...

Smartest play on defense all night right there.

First good play by JT this year.

You know it's gotten bad when your FG defense unit jumps. That's terrible. Good discipline from these guys. Shades of Spurrier.

Good news is it should be 21-0... Bad news is.. We still have the same players out there..

Ahh...whatever.

I have nothing else to say.

I am going to make a Mojito.

How do you call yourself a football player and miss that interception.

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 4, 2008 7:58 PM
Easy. He's watching the receiver, then spots the ball, but never has a chance to get focuses on it. It's a problem defensive backs face all the time, especially in man-to-man coverage.

The problem with the West Coast offense is...this ain't the West Coast.

Zorn's play calling is AWFUL. That kind of third and short play didn't work at all in the preseason, and he does it again. I don't understand it. It's absolutely ridiculous. I think a bunch of damned idiots are running this team.

Epic, epic fail

Posted by: bloodied | September 4, 2008 8:07 PM | Report abuse

madden is right.. this play calling is too REGULAR!

Posted by: Cocodc | September 4, 2008 8:08 PM | Report abuse

seems to me we have lot of losers on tonight. Especially when you go on the road, the home team has an early psycological edge. It's called the home-field advantage. We have to fight back, make a few stops on D, and then inch our way back into the game, which lasts for 60 minutes. Remember we played the gints at home last year, outplayed them, even dominated them, but ended up losing.

Let's play 60 m9nutes before we declare defeat.

One thing they can say is they're playing as a team. Failing, catastrophically, at all levels.

Offense, defense, special teams, playcalling.

All on the same page so far.

The problem in the 2nd half will be fatigue.

They could fade, cramp, evaporate.

Oh wait..they're doing that now.

Posted by: GAD | September 4, 2008 8:12 PM | Report abuse

frediefritz,
This is a west coast offense? We've thrown 3 times and run 8. The only thing we are leading in is return yards. I've been watching the Skins since the late 60's-this is the worse I have ever seen them. Opening night on a national stage against the defending SB champs and you can't get fired up and play some football. Good lord.

the gnats are actually showing mercy. should be 35-0

My two teenage daughters could play better defensive tackle than these girls.

Sorry, anon was me. I'm on my laptop during the game, and I'm not very good on it.

I am not even mad about the game. Sad, but I now just expect us to be bad.

I'm sure they were fired up. They just haven,t matched the Gints excitement level yet. Gints got a couple of early penalty calls, an emotional run by Jacobs, momemtum switches to them. We need to keep whittling away, get some points, get back in the game in the second half.

Posted by: frediefritz | September 4, 2008 8:24 PM | Report abuse

How did Madden ever win a Super Bowl? He is the dumbest color man on TV.

Case in point...wanting the Skins to use timeouts. All that would have done is give Gints more time in 1st half.

Posted by: frediefritz | September 4, 2008 8:28 PM | Report abuse

frediefritz,
If we come out in the second half and go 3 and out we are done. This team does not look ready to play. No Cooley. The D-line looks more like a sieve and the "strength" of the defense is getting run over. They don't look good. We have a total of 51 yards. Burress has just under 100. Not good.

I'm not saying they look good. Clearly they are struggling. I'm just saying it isn't time to give up yet. We scored 7 in about 2 minutes. Stranger things have happened. Just keep fighting.

Someone, anyone, explaing how the pass-run ratio in a west coast offense it 7-13?

Posted by: bishopj36 | September 4, 2008 8:51 PM | Report abuse

Even the D is getting closer to a pick. Anything can happen.
