The Week in TCCLs

It's Dallas Week. 'Nuff said. Let's get it on with the TCCLs.

75 TCCLs - Z-Man.

So this Austrian TV crew is at Redskins Park the other day, just doing some light stuff about the Skins-Cowboys game (this outfit has the Austrian rights to the game, which will be kicking off at, like, 1 a.m. there). After Zorn is done with us schlubs he goes to the side to answer some questions for the Austrian guys, and they ask him to do a little station ID type thing (Hello, this is Jim Zorn from the Washington Redskins and you're watching the NFL on ATV, or whatever the station is called).

Except Zorn ends up doing something like a five-minute spiel on how he hopes the people of Austria like the game, and how he hopes the Skins are entertaining and explaining the game a little bit. It was wild.

The dude doing the interview, who has covered several Super Bowls, including many with the Patriots involved, was floored. "I can't believe this is a football coach," he said. "He is nothing like Belichick." True dat.

There is a genuine humility, candor, and quest for knowledge and positive interactions with people in Zorn that I don't think will change, even with a job as demanding as his.

23 TCCLs - Unknown rookie coaches.

Zorn, Mike Smith, John Harbaugh and Tony Sparano are 23-12. Maybe hiring totally under-the-radar position coaches will become the hot trend this offseason, when roughly a quarter of the teams will have vacancies.

-81 TCCLs - T.O.

Judging from the way he's been flapping his gums you'd think DeAngelo Hall was the guy who spat on him, and not the other way around. Dude should pipe down and make a play. He's been doing a pretty good 2006 Keyshawn impersonation this season. Can't wait to see if Springs, Rogers, Hall, or whoever else can shut him down again Sunday night and get him all pouty like last time.

-150 TCCLs - Bye-week acquisitions.

So much for a mini-vaca. Couldn't Al Davis have waited one more week to cut Hall? Couldn't he have started the purge with Javon Walker, or any of the other horrible contracts he handed out in free agency? I'm just sayin' ...

-495 TCCLs - Rainy day drivers.

Is it really that difficult to pilot one's automobile in the rain? Should my commute double or triple just because of a little shower? What's going on here, people? Let's get it together. I'm beyond even getting worked up about driving in the snow - that's a lost cause - but a few water droplets? Sheesh.

Could you whine any more about your job? Come on man.
There used to be bunches of posts after every blog entry, it seems to dwindle down every week, and after reading this last post I can see why, I'll get my updates elsewhere. ESPN980 has a bunch of blogs on it that keep pretty current with whats happening skins wise if any of you didn't know.

I'll second that. Especially when Jason said he is a 'promising young corner'. Huh? Since when?

Agreed on the rainy day drivers. Nova drivers are infamous for their timid driving habits. The second the clouds open up everyone turns into old Asian ladies behind the wheel.

Mix in a little snow, and then it gets really bad: they turn into Maryland drivers.

t_e, in case you didn't see the answers on the last thread, Marcus Mason has been inactive every week since being signed by the Jets.

JLC,

Lets be fair the fact that you have a long drive is to be blamed on the fact that the team practices in the middle of nowhere.

I still cant figure how the cowpukes are favored in this one

we only beat them when they were the media superbowl darlings and they have went what 2-4 counting that game

Posted by: WVskinzfan | November 14, 2008 11:22 PM | Report abuse

anyone home??

Posted by: WVskinzfan | November 14, 2008 11:27 PM | Report abuse

Hard to figure WVskinzfan. At worst we are without Portis and they have Roy W. in this second meeting but they are once again favorite.

My guess is that tonyhomo is the next coming of Michael Jordan because his coming back elevates the cows back to SB favorites.

Almost puked writing that! Am going to enjoy watching the national media choking on their words come Monday morning.

cant imagine r williams to be much of a factor has he even practiced with romo? maybe just this week

Posted by: WVskinzfan | November 14, 2008 11:46 PM | Report abuse

No way that t.homo and r.williams have practiced enough to be in sync with each other.

Even without Portis, can't see the Skins losing this game.

i just hope we can get the ball down the field through the air but im not sure our line will hold long enough for a deep drop

Posted by: WVskinzfan | November 14, 2008 11:56 PM | Report abuse

This game will show what kinds of adjustments Zorn is making after half the season gone.

At some point he will have to show some confidence in DT. Until he makes him a part of the game plan, it will be hard win the way we have won lately - using Portis, Moss and Cooley as our only weapons.

Posted by: Curzon417 | November 15, 2008 12:22 AM | Report abuse

couldnt agree more. Im losing more and more confidence in DT every game. Its obvious he has the physical tools. I guess he just hasnt progressed like my expectations. Im hoping MK is the real deal as it seems folks around the park think.

50 TCCLs for GintheATL!

Posted by: Notorious_LMG | November 15, 2008 12:35 AM | Report abuse

Agree, from everything I hear, MK is the real deal if his body can hold up.

Sometimes I think that DT's lack of production is due to Zorn being in his first year and not wanting rookie mistakes taking away from his first year. IMO, a coach with more experience would have more latitude in letting a young player play and grow in their system than Zorn is able to. May be more my hope than what is happening, but that is how I choose to see it through my burgundy glasses.

LMG, could have given you that answer sooner if you were offering beer rather than TCCL's.

Well at least you did not give bonus points...

I just don't know

Posted by: JohnDinHouston | November 15, 2008 8:04 AM | Report abuse

I caution my fellow RI brethren to be patient with the young receivers. You have to read bewteen the lines. JC in recent interviews has not been clamoring for the rookie WR's to get more action, and JC is about as honest as they come. Clinton Portis mentioned on the John Thompson show that essential Thomas is a bit wild and Malcom Kelly is the receiver with more potential.

Zorn is a former QB who know what WR's should do and look like. I think Zorn has tried to get Thomas the ball, and for me one to two catches a game with Moss and ARE in the game is progress. I think we see more DT in the 2nd half of this season.

Now I do think we have to use them in the red zone. The one constant between the Gibbs and Zorn era is the lack of red zone production, and that to me says talent, not scheme.

We seem to be dolling out a lot of TCCL's lateley. You guys are treating them like excess minutes in those cingluar commercials.

Remember the days when TCCL's meant something. They were special and only given out to those who truly deserved them.

10,000 TCCLs for those days.
