TCCLs for JC, Springs and D-Line 'Village People'

It's Friday and that can only mean one thing: TCCLs on the week that was.

$$$$ TCCLs: If Jason Campbell keeps this up, he's gonna get paid. You could not ask for anything more out of the young man than what he's produced the past three weeks. If he does it in back-to-back weeks on the road within the division, it will only improve his approval ratings.

81 TCCLs: Shawn Springs, Shutdown Corner. The dude had T.O. pouting and whining and looking like a frustrated mess Sunday, a week after blanketing Anquan Boldin essentially out of the game. The Skins' defense is a different animal with No. 24 on the field and he's fully prepared to fight through his calf strain and play against the Eagles if at all possible. Plus, in a battle of two supreme trash talkers, Springs shut down his buddy, so he's got bragging rights going for him.

8 TCCLs: D-Line Rotation. It takes a village, and Greg Blache has the confidence in his troops to use them all. With Jason Taylor possibly out another week or so beyond this game, it's going to continue to be a collective effort by this gang.

- 10:07 TCCLs: MLB. Is there no way we can start a playoff game before my lame butt is falling asleep? What about the kids, man? What about the kids? No way we can do an 8:30 start? Is that the impossible dream?

- 45 TCCLs: Awkward Post-Game Moments. I guess there's a reason why video cameras shouldn't be allowed in the locker room right after a victory. Whether you thought the owner said: "When we play physical, we win!" Or whether you just took it as a non sequitor: "We're physical! We win!" Whether you watched it once, or 10 times in a row ... It's a pretty dang uncomfortable seven seconds of video. Some things are definitely better left unseen.

-250 TCCLs: Tractor Trailers. Got clipped by one driving to work Wednesday. Slammed on the horn when I saw him changing lanes - figuring I was in his blindspot - and of course he just kept coming. Thankfully, he just clipped the front passenger side of the car, putting in a nice gash and making it impossible to open the passenger side front door. Considering the dude was carrying like chemical waste, it could've been much, much worse. Keeping my fingers crossed about insurance bringing them to justice.

Nice job JLC on 1st Take. Talked about how Springs, then Rodgers shut down two for 3 qtrs.

Said that the offense looks good against the iggles. JC not just managing games, but winning games. JC really doing good in this offense.

scamp, if Westbrook is limited by his ankle, and can't cut like he usually does, I think the Redskins are able to contain him more so than usual.

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 3, 2008 11:23 AM

Yea, I just think a lot of what is being said about him is a scam. He practiced Wednesday and Thursday. I just think that if he was hurting at all he would be resting up for the game, not practicing. IOW, I think he's fine.

youch on the clip. If the guy was a Hazmat I got to think that he may be looking for a job if your insurance catchis him. I think the D line gets 14 tccl's.

+++Cork, you don't like Dan Snyder, we get it....

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 3, 2008 10:39 AM+++

Rather than your ad hominum reply, why don't you put some thought in your response and actually defend Snyder's move in this regard?

My comments reflect not dislike but bafflement. Let me 'splain. I ADMIRE Snyder's generosity flying skins and family to Taylor's funeral and using his plane for family emergencies with players.

I DON'T admire him having to be sued to allow people who happen to be hard of hearing to fully enjoy his Redskins. It doesn;' even make good busines sense as he could easily slip on an ad, a la "Enjoy plenty o' $12. Brewskis, deaf Peeps!"

Now if you can explain his behavior in this regard, I'd LOVE to hear it.

Posted by: Corkczar | October 3, 2008 11:46 AM | Report abuse

JLC, you clearly have more access than I do, your feud with Vinny Boy notwithstanding, but I heard Zorn and Cerrato refer to Springs as questionable/doubtful Sunday?

Posted by: Notorious_LMG | October 3, 2008 11:46 AM | Report abuse

"We're physical! We win!" ???

Sounds more plausible than what I heard:

"Wii fits so cool! Oui, oui!"

im sorry for asking such a stupid question but i have been following this site for the past year now and i still dont understand what tccls are what meaning they have? can someone please explain thanks

Mehtadman,
Go back to any given Friday TCCL post and you will find an explination at some point. Every week someone askes and its answered.

Posted by: alex35332 | October 3, 2008 11:53 AM | Report abuse

Heres a question. How many points up and how late do you try and get till you start runing out the clock as best you can? If you have a 10 point lead middle of the 2nd quarter, try runing the clock out as best you can?

Tyring to run down the clock to early was the downfall of Gibbs 2.0. When we had leads it was all run with no chance of passing atack. The fourth qtr is the only time you really need to run down the clock, before then you can emphasis your run more but you cannot make it one dimensional. We tried to do that under Gibbs and constatly were getting caught up to or passed in the 4th. If you have a lead late its prefect anything before the 4th is dangerous. The way I see Zorn he continually atacks, love the killer mentallity, even when your runnning dow the clock late that presnet the perfect opportunity to go deep which is where i see a major diffrence between zorn and gibbs.

Posted by: Stu27 | October 3, 2008 11:17 AM | Report abuse

Stu, I agree with your answer to Alex's question from the last thread, but I would amend it slightly.

With a 10 point lead in the second qtr, I would try to run out the last 5 minutes to half time, then go back to my regular O in the 3rd qtr. My philosophy is that the best D is a long time-consuming drive to end either the half or the game. It sure gives the D extra time to rest for the second half.

Posted by: frediefritz | October 3, 2008 11:53 AM | Report abuse

Vinny, lie?? Never!

Surprised to hear Coach Z say that he didn't think Springs would go. Although I have to say if he had to miss last week or this, clearly this would be the better one to rest him. Carlos should be able to do a decent job on Jackson, and Smoot can handle Basket. Westbrook is the key here, as always.

TCCL = Tom Cruise Couch Leaps. As I understand it, the evolution is thus: Tom Cruise recently became tight with Danny and was watching games with him from the owners box, and around the same time made an appearnce on Oprah where he apparently took some acid before hand because he was jumping up and down on Oprah's couch and generally acting kinda foolish. So any accolades due the Skins are now rated by the number of anticipated TCCLs.

Cork, I don't break everything that Snyder does down, and dissect it, and try and find the motive behind it. I'm not that deep a cat, nor do I have that that much free time, nor venom for the man.

If he wants to charge 12 bucks for a beer, so be it. If you don't like it, don't buy beer in the stadium.

I see you're true to form and back to taking cheap shots at Snyder wherever possible. I personally was VERY comfortable watching Snyder and Zorn celebrate after beating the media's favorite team in Dallas. Uncomfortable for me? Watching you on WaPo Live try to provide technical analysis of a game you clearly are not an expert on; just see about every prediction you have made to this point in the season.

TCCL = Tom Cruise Coach Leaps!!!! HAHA, that is hilarious. Also, why are you feeling so awkward about the brief video of Danny Boy amped after beating that AZZ in texas? I watched it and think it was pretty hilarious. I like to see that the owner really is a big skins fan. Also, one of my fondest memories in football will always be seeing Jerry Jones, clinched fists, and absolutely beside himself once he realized we had beat his cowgirls. It was delightful and classic all in one brief moment. F DALLAS, F GIANTS, F PHILLY. This is a must win for our skins, and winning this game is something playoff teams do. We can really give ourselves some lee-way with a victory this Sunday. I expect shawn springs and brian westbrook to be playing sunday. However, I can't imagine westbrook being anywhere near 100%. He will probably get shot-up before the game.

8 TCCLs: D-Line Rotation. It takes a village, and Greg Blache has the confidence in his troops to use them all. With Jason Taylor possibly out another week or so beyond this game, it's going to continue to be a collective effort by this gang.--JASNO

Can we stop this canard that the loss of Jason Taylor is a big deal?

I checked the stats. He is currently 14th on the team in total tackles and assists. 14th. He has 1/5 as many tackles as London Fletcher, 19 fewer than Rocky MacIntosh, and 11 fewer than RI poster’s favorite whipping boy, Reed Doughty.

Taylor has five fewer tackles than the combined output of his replacements, Demetric Evans and Chris Wilson.

He has one sack. One. Uno.

Credit where it’s due. Taylor, when unable to get near the QB has been very effective at jumping up and using his 6’6” length to block passes.

And for those who think I only rip Taylor, there’s this. I’ve felt he wouldn’t last the season in the tough NFC East. That’s been proven true.

But my HOPE is that he’s gotten his injuries out of the way, and will return, refreshed and recovered for the stretch run. Fully healthy, with fresh legs, working against beat up opponents could well mean a return to form.

But fortunately Evans, Wilson and even Rob Jackson have given the redskins a more than adequate—and in Evans case run-stuffing—force at DE. And--dare we hope?--maybe Erasmus James!.

I also agree with the "Boo Dematha" sentiments. GO ST JOHNS CADETS BABY!!!!!

Posted by: marleyb313 | October 3, 2008 12:20 PM | Report abuse

Also, Jason, the term is "non sequitur," and unless your premise is that the level of physicality in a given team's play during a game has no effect whatsoever on the outcome of that game, then you have not only misspelled this term, but you have used it incorrectly. Aren't you supposed to know the meaning of a term before you go throwing it around trying to make yourself LOOK intelligent?

I didn't mean to imply that my mind was changed by anything I heard tonight. It's more the case that she is who I thought she was.

Posted by: NateinthePDX | October 2, 2008 11:21 PM

So the next natural question is about crowning her ... maybe a tiara?

Also, on the Special Teams breakdown by Rock thread ... Philly's long time special teams coach is now the Raven's head coach ... who replaced him in Philly and was it someone from inside the existing ranks?

Finally, much has been said about the Philly linebackers (by me anyway) ... Philly's D is 11th against the pass. Not sure why that is, esp. when Lito Sheppard gets demoted to nickel. What's the current intell on Asante Samuel? Is he fast enough to cover Moss/ARE? Or is he a big cover corner like Springs? Inquiring minds, such as ... [darn right, you betcha!]

Good piece about JCamp from the times, a snippet:

After a meeting with coach Jim Zorn and an assistant Monday afternoon, Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell had two options for the next two days: Go home to relax and enjoy two rare days off or bury himself in a meeting room.

As usual, he chose the latter.

Instead of celebrating the biggest win of his career, Campbell stayed at work, watching three Philadelphia Eagles game tapes for nearly four hours, the first stage of preparation for the next opponent.

Asante is not a cover corner as some people have judged him to be. I hope they put him on Moss I said this before Samuals bread and butter is jumping routes thats how he has made a name for himself, he reads a QB well and has quick reation with good hands, however he is not a cover guy he wont blanket someone down field, certainly not all day. If he is on Moss and moss does his double move which has beed enourmously effective this year Samuals will end up 40 yards away from Moss while hes running into the end zone. Sheldon Brown is much better all around, it will be interseting to see if they line up man on man.

Wanted to add that Asante could play a big roll in sniffing out those screen passes we will want to use, and if one sails from Cambell it can easily be 6 the other way, thats how Samuals beats people.

I'm a poet and yeah I know it.
Skins heading into Balbano's house
Our Rocky gonna make it quiet as a mouse.

Skins 17, Eagles 5. Late muffed punt by Malcolm Kelly and subsequent safety as #12 rolls his ankle on a misguided cheesesteak intended for #5- one of 30+ incompletions on the day for Philly/McNabb- makes it interesting. But Horton recovers DeSean Jackson's fumble who, after busting loose on the ensuing free kick, attempts an ill-fated Triple Lindy from the 17 yard line and comes up 8 yards shy. Soup runs out the clock and inks a deal with Chunky after the game, replacing McNabb as their top QB. Tough day for #5 who is consoled via VTC by TWO.

Playing for a coach who's a little different and has his own style can be a lot of fun. Hooray for Coach for bringing a positive attitude to the team. If you read the quotes from the players, you get the feeling it's a fun time to be a Washington Redskin.

The beauty of that Daniel Snyder locker room moment is how much he reminded me of Steve Carrell on The Office. It was that uncomfortable, overenthusiastic, you don't really belong here kind of energy. Loved it.
