Happy Friday! Herewith, the weekly TCCLs:

234 TCCLs - Ground Zorn

Maybe he's having Chuck Knox flashbacks, maybe not. But either way, Zorn's hybrid West Coast model is working. I give him a ton of credit for flexibility in the running and passing games and tailoring his plans to his players rather than trying to force a full-blown traditional West Coast scheme down their throats. That open-mindedness has allowed the Redskins to avoid the typical horrid starts that come with coaching transitions, and is an approach that is pretty much the exact opposite of Al Saunders'.

77 TCCLs - Randy Thomas

It's looking like 2005 all over again for this pulling guard. He's getting outside into space and knocking people over, teaming with Jon Jansen to give the Skins a formidable right side of the line on the ground. A lot of people around the league wondered in the preseason if Randy's best days were behind him, but he's proving them wrong each week. (In all honestly, I was one of the those who had similar questions).

52 TCCLs. Jason Reid

I hear he made the earth move at the football seminar we put on at The Post last night. The Mayor brought the thunder and had the room eating out of his hand. He's nothing if not a people person. Actually, I think my man passed his one-year anniversary on the beat a few weeks back, and I forgot all about it. He's a world-class dude and it's been a lot of fun having him on board.

-2008 TCCLs - AM Radio

Has anyone tried to listen to a playoff baseball on the radio recently? Like, say Game 7 of the ALCS? Good luck finding it. Driving home from FedEx Field last Sunday night, it was impossible. I had to find a signal out of, like, Chicago that cut in and out. That was it. Nothing closer. Good thing there was only a World Series berth was at stake. I realize that football is king, and I'm obviously cool with that (football pays the bills), but come on, that crummy Sunday night football game was on every station, and the biggest baseball game of the year was nowhere.

jasno, this tccl binness has too much peter the clown vibe...get rid of it man! do something original. actually i love the weekly movies that you do. and you and jason do an awesome job in it.

get rid of this silly "tccl" binnes...i wouldn't mind a tuesday discuss zorn's presser...and discuss the game...

Posted by: dealer1 | October 24, 2008 5:42 PM | Report abuse

i gotta agree with dealer...tccl is really really gay...and i'm sorry if that offends anyone...but thats the way it feels...maybe we should come up with something that isnt so this is corny beyond corny...but i love the reporting jlc does...i just dont see whats so funny or ammusing about tccls

Posted by: jasonma1 | October 24, 2008 6:02 PM | Report abuse

The Sox lost.

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | October 24, 2008 6:02 PM | Report abuse

The TCCL's are like Tony Kornheiser on MNF......No matter how idiotic it is, no matter how many people complain about it and no matter how many times you keep praying each week that it will go away...for whatever stupid reason unbeknownst to rears it's ugly combover...EVERY PAIN-FILLED WEEK!!

JLC is the guy from "Good Morning, Vietnam" who insisted that he is funny and that the troops love Polka!

Posted by: filmchis | October 24, 2008 6:26 PM | Report abuse

I had it loud and clear on XM.

Posted by: jklaw | October 24, 2008 7:03 PM | Report abuse

Well I don't necessarily have a problem with the premise of the TCCLs, but what he does with them sometimes ticks me off a bit. Just like this one. Only three things worth mentioning about the Skins? Really?

Instead he jumps to baseball, which if fine (I guess) and takes a shot at football.

Me personally, I'd rather watch ARENA football than a baseball game myself, or even Canadian football is better than baseball (actually, as I think about it, I don't watch baseball unless my wife wins the argument anyway) so there is ALWAYS something better to do or to watch than baseball.

But that is my opinion, I'm sure there are many here who disagree with me on that, but this crap with the TCCLs is definitely gettin' old.

Posted by: craig2 | October 24, 2008 7:23 PM | Report abuse

Actually, I guess it was only 2 things he felt was worth mentioning about the Skins. This "Redskins" Insider, right?

Posted by: craig2 | October 24, 2008 7:37 PM | Report abuse

Get a life..Its a blog...TCCLS have been around foever..Stop complaining puss*&*

what a bunch of nancy boy whiners....really? wow! seriously re-read your comments and see if your not feeling a little silly.....

Posted by: chrislarry | October 24, 2008 9:16 PM | Report abuse

I read my comments, and NO, I don't feel silly at all. Like I said, I don't have a problem with TCCLs in and of themselves, I just thought they would be about the Redskins.

Posted by: craig2 | October 24, 2008 9:29 PM | Report abuse

well you should....dude reps he co-worker....and gives a non-football shout out, which he always does...

Not to mention the skins related ones were huge positives.....Zorn being a coach rather than addicted to his own schemes...shout out to an under appreciated player...

This on the heels of like a 6/7 post day. I mean really.

Posted by: chrislarry | October 24, 2008 9:39 PM | Report abuse

I think the weekly TCCLs should be changed to the weekly HHHs (Hip Hip Hoorays) in honor of my man Coach Z.

Posted by: hobbes9 | October 24, 2008 10:02 PM | Report abuse

I don't have an issue with the Reid shout, like I wrote, I thought this was the "Redskins" Insider. He could only come up with 2 relevant points about the Redskins?

If you like it, good for you, it doesn't change the way I feel about it.

Posted by: craig2 | October 24, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

I like the TCCL's, but the reference predates my reading (and I would imagine, more than a few others)of the blog. I can also understand why they are a weekly occurrence - I imagine they started a few years ago when the 'Skins were abysmal and there needed to be something worth reading. However I, like hobbes9, think HHH's would be a good move now, because I think with the 'Skins success the blog is picking up newer readers who have no idea what a TCCL is - and probably have no idea what a real "Tom Cruise Couch Leap" is even a reference to.

Posted by: jwlemons | October 24, 2008 11:36 PM | Report abuse

The TCCL reference is too lame and obscure. The material is OK but time to move on to a more Skins Fan-relevant reference point as the lead in. We're on the Bandwagon, so give us a good lead.
Award Zornstars or Clinton Costumes or something.

Posted by: chas2 | October 25, 2008 12:26 AM | Report abuse

I've been a part-timer on the blog before TCCL's ever started and everyone knew what that and "SJK" meant. The TCCLs are just part of the RI Blog history--they've never been 100% about the Redskins, as this blog has never been 100% about the 'Skins. Yes, sometimes they're a little lame, but that's okay; they just add to the conversation. However, I do like hobbes9's idea of naming them the "HHH"s maybe.

I agree that TCCLs are a stupid concept.

Hey Jasno: this is the 21st century and you're concerned about AM radio??? Ever hear of this invention called Satellite radio? I understand you can actually hear tons of sports games there, and with the merger of Sirius and XM, you can get virtually any sport you want. Try getting with the times and stop your whining!

Posted by: kirbyknight | October 25, 2008 8:35 AM | Report abuse

my problem is you got to pay with XM radio. Not cool. No one should ever have to pay for anything ever.

especially water or women...i never pay for either

Posted by: jasonma1 | October 25, 2008 9:07 AM | Report abuse

and i have no problem with the material...i just dont like the thing "tccls" that is lame...hip hip hoorays r better for this tccls might have been funny the first year...but now its played out...i think we should think of something new...thats all...but i have no problem with jlc's commentary

This should answer your question on TCCLs.

Excellent idea to change TCCLs to HHH!

TCCLs just remind me of that short weird guy married to Katie Homes...

To change topics.....

While doing a VERY little bit of "research", it appears the guy with the long arms and hands that got in the way of the game last week has been making a habit of this!!!
Check these out...

Someone take care of this guy !!! HE MUST BE STOPPED !!!

Hey, if the NFL would quit trying to be so cheap and give their cameramen "partially obstructed" seats, none of this would be happening.

Posted by: daggar | October 25, 2008 10:32 AM | Report abuse

Does the "long arm guy" only follow CBS around, I haven't noticed it to be such a big deal in the FOX broadcasts?

The "fingers guy" in the Saints game didn't block as much of the camera as the other one in the Browns game.

I'm with you JLC on the baseball thing, luckily I was at home here in the ATL so I watched Bays-Sox on the tube while I recorded True Blood, and Mad Men.Randy Thomas is having a great season so far, as is the rest of the O line Buges deserves all the credit he has worked wonders with these guys and Jon Jansen; to say he is playing like an all pro is a understatement need to kick azz Sunday and get certain players an early out.Lets Go DC11,Play Hard For SEAN#21!!!!!!!!!.

I'll quadruple the change from TCCLs to HHHs.

Don't post on RI very often but I too think that TCCLs should be changed to HHHs. TCCLs are played out, stale. Tom Cruise leaped on Oprah's couch in like 2004 or 2005. Not even relevant anymore. But HHH? That's what winners say!

Posted by: MEssex | October 25, 2008 3:40 PM | Report abuse

HHH's don't role from the tongue very well. How about handing out "HIPs" or "ZornStars!" or "Presidential Laps", there has to be something better than TCCLs.

Posted by: craig2 | October 25, 2008 4:08 PM | Report abuse

I am pleased that in general the HHHs are endorsed. Somebody needs to get Jasno on this ASAP!

Posted by: hobbes9 | October 25, 2008 4:36 PM | Report abuse

As long as 'ASAP' means 'a week', I think you've got a chance.

It may be time to change 'Monday Morning H-Back' to something more Zorny...

Posted by: daggar | October 25, 2008 4:54 PM | Report abuse

As long as we aren't talking about football - this is totally bizarre:

Posted by: captjim | October 25, 2008 5:05 PM | Report abuse

I've always been of the opinion that TCCLs are lame. HHH is much better, mainly because it's much more Zorny.

Posted by: JesusFreakKaren | October 25, 2008 6:36 PM | Report abuse

Only problem with HHH is somebody already has it!

as well as....

....just saying the last thing you want after you is Democrats or Pro-Wrestlers.

Long time no post... work didnt like that I would be on the internets all the time.

Eh, I care not either way on TCCL of HHH's... the point is weekly awards and I like how Jasno does it (77 for thomas, his number, come on... thats creative).

I do think this is a statement game. We need to pound them into submission. A nice Sellers trucking of a saftey would do nicely.

I do think we need to ride Portis, but this may be a game to get JC some comfort in the passing game. It seems to be slipping a little.

The problem two weeks ago was that we ran the ball incessantly. Against the boys and iggles it showed we were tougher, something they didnt know. Against the rams it kept them in the game and gave them hope, something they didnt know. Their pass rush was good, so obvi we had to stay with the run, and it almost worked.

But this week we need to air it out. This lions team is a team we can take this 'chance' with. I know Zorn sees us going against what has got us here as chancing it, but if there is any team to not be afraid of if they are beating us by 7 or 10, it is the Lions. Keep airing it out, save clinton for next week and the rest of the season, and let Santana and CC explode.

Cooley should abuse these LB's every play, and if the focus on him with a safety and LB, Santana and El should be streaking the middle.

Post game heroes pointed this out well.

Here is the link specifically for the defensive breakdown vs the browns. Was never able to see the vids imbedded at work... add a ton to what they are saying.

Time for another jack and coke, and a smoke.... some of you newbies may not have been here during some of my late night JD rants... maybe I will bless you tonight.

As you can tell from my first couple of posts, it is 7:20 and I am already red to go...

Cyn, can I get post points for not posting for a long time, then posting a crud load all in a short span of time. Some sort of blog guiness mind meld type thingy?

Greg, any advice on how I should use those post points?

Posted by: Zeebs | October 25, 2008 7:25 PM | Report abuse

With our run game the way it is, I believe Zorn should demand that JC press the ball down the field more with some play action.

When teams press the run, the shorter passing routes are clogged as well. A couple of shots down the field - even if you dont complete them all - gives the D something else to think about before they sell out to stop the run.

Posted by: mattsoundworld | October 25, 2008 7:30 PM | Report abuse

True Matt, that is what I was thinking. The lions know we can run and are probably focusing on that. PA pass should kill them.

Also it sets up how teams play us down the road. Eventually they will stack the box with 8, if they arent already, and it would be nice if JC could get some 'practice' against a team we can take those type of shots against.

THe Steelers I would want to run non stop to keep the ball out of their offenses hands. We really dont have to worry about thatr with the lions.

By the by, my wife surprised me last week when she got home and had my 2.5 year old son sing me the entire first verse of hail to the reskins (notice no 'D' because he doesnt say the 'd' in Redskins, yet)

I do watch redskins nation because of the player interview and the like (i really cant stand michaels, but he has access we dont), and at the end he dances and sings when hail to the skins plays.

Its great having a son!

I guess I killed the blog. Almost time for the big PSU game.

Any peeps in the york/lancaster area?

Bmore blacked out for tomorrow and all of PA is showing the eagles. Im gonna go to a bar in lancaster to watch the game with my father-in-law... any body else looking for a place to watch it in that area?

Posted by: Zeebs | October 25, 2008 7:52 PM | Report abuse

I hear you about the practice, but I think Pitts D is a bit over rated. They have only played 2 offenses statistically in the top 20 (Houston and Philly) and are 1-1 against them.

It will be a tough game, for sure, but I wouldn't give them the check on either side of the ball.

Posted by: mattsoundworld | October 25, 2008 7:58 PM | Report abuse

Yep, but I would say the same about the rams and browns. I dont like this trend of us playing to our competitions level.

Steelers could be really good, or not. But we dont see them much so I would like to have their d have to worry about a ragin CP and a bombing JC...

Well, for what its worth, the fact that we had some turnovers and still had a shot at both wins shows the team has some character. Plus, its the NFL. You are always going to win some games you shouldnt and lose some games you shouldnt.

Its still early in the season, Zorn and company are still learning, we aren't freakishly healthy or injured... We have 9 oppurtunities for 5 wins, as I see it, and that should give us a shot at the playoffs.

I'll take the setback early in the season so the team knows it cant rest, cant stop improving.

Posted by: mattsoundworld | October 25, 2008 8:18 PM | Report abuse

TCCLs started as way of implicitly criticizing Dan Snyder (which is pretty much why JLC does most anything on this blog).

A few years back, after Tom Cruise started getting bad publicity related to his beliefs in Scientology (and one of the infamous incidents included jumping up on the couch on Oprah), Sumner Redstone - the head exec at Paramount - ended his business relationship with Cruise. Soon after this it was announced that Dan Snyder had decided to invest money in Tom Cruise's movie production company. Cruise then started appearing socially with Synder, and came to some 'Skins home games.

And soon after that, JLC started making fun of Snyder's decision to invest in "crazy 'ol Tom Cruise," and TCCL's were born as a way of reminding everyone that Snyder, Cruise, and the 'Skins all share a connection.

And now, of course, this story only reminds us that once again, JLC is motivated by personal grudges rather than simple reporting.
