The Final Flacco Post of the Week

In talking to some of the Redskins about Ravens QB Joe Flacco, a rookie they admittedly had not seen much of prior to watching film this week, one thing has caught their eye more than anything else: His big arm.

He's pretty fearless overall and has not flinched when given the chance to air the ball out deep. Corner Shawn Springs began his study of Flacco early in the week, and, after going into the process not expecting to see a whole lot, came away surprised.

"He's got a nice arm," Springs said. "He throws the fade route already about as good as anybody in the league. He's not afraid to make any throw."

Springs noticed that early in the year Flacco's turnover problems - seven picks in his first five starts - were coming largely on intermediate routes (the kind of stuff Springs is often asked to defend when playing as the nickel corner in the slot). But he said Flacco is reading the game better and spraying the ball around more.

"He's improved a lot," Springs said.

Redskins Coach Jim Zorn, who knows something about being an elite quarterback, is most impressed with Flacco's demeanor, his coolness under pressure and ability to adjust to the pro game.

Flacco has had to fight a bit for respect in the Ravens' locker room, however. Baltimore's star-laden defense sets the team's personality, and they have made the Delaware product earn every bit of praise, though he's pretty much won them over by now, players said. Pro Bowl linebacker Terrell Suggs, however, refuses to let Flacco's head get too big. He's been referring to the rookie all season as "Shane Falco."

This should be one oooogly game.

Until the offense gets in gear, which is beginning to look more and more like next year, all the games will be oooogly, ga8085.
Or, to use a different vernacular, fugly.

He's pretty fearless overall

Maybe because he doesn't have a coach telling him no mistake and to be perfect.

Suggs from Madness > Terrell Suggs

You know our Offense is struggling when the raves are scoring more points per game than us lately :p

Since B-more is just a hop, skip & a jump from DC can't believe the Skins hadn't seen more of Flacco. I'm really happy to see a I-AA UofDelaware kid make good. His growth is even more incredible if you saw his first pre-season game. He made about every mistake a greenhorn QB could make. Really felt sorry for the kid. But he plays like a kid no more. This weekend will be a good match-up. Just hope the Skins can score more than their 18-pts-per-game avg. and pull out this slugfest.

Have to give props to Flacco for his play. Impressive for a rookie.

That being said, Hall will get at least one INT from him this week.

As long as Springs doesn't draw a 15 yard penalty for knocking him over in the act of intercepting.

jm, you could be onto something there....

I think Hall will take it to the house this week. Hope we sign him at the in the off season.

Now if baltimore wants a real rival with DC they should go for the Nats/O's thing. DC fans will get mad about that one quickly, as we still hate the O's for trying to block us from getting a team and stealing the Nat's TV rights.

Yeah, but we hate the Nats more because that jerk Lerner won't spend a nickle on players' salaries and then refused to pay rent after we'd built him a $750 million stadium. Never go to another Nats game.

It will be interesting to see if Spring's early study of Flacco changes the way he watches him play from the sidelines.

TE,
He finally paid the rent a week or two ago. Now you can just hate Lerner for building the worst urban development complex in the united states Tysons.

Looks like Flacco won't have to look too far past The Sun and Baltimore Times for a local fluffer.

I hope we annihilate this kid.

haha well played mack. I don't even bother listening to what ANY of these guys say about their status for games. What was it 3 weeks ago?..

Springs was a definite, Washington doubtful (basically was told no chance) and Portis doubtful? Washington played, Portis played, Springs in sweats...

Springs is just on another level. How many times has this guy said he is DEFINITELY playing and will NOT miss an NFC East game or this game etc. etc? Don't expect to see him this Sunday..

Posted by: alex35332 | December 4, 2008 11:10 AM

Isn't he just great? He actually paid his rent a week ago? He didn't pay any interest on his unpaid debt. How much did the District have to borrow -- in difficult capital markets -- to float this guy's bad debts?

And what's he doing now to put a winning team in the ball park we bought him? He's got the Gilbert Arenas strategy: just keep losing so we can get a good draft pick.

why dont we run press coverage anymore?

we played press coverage against dallas and philly the first time around but this time we played the giants and cowboys with this man coverage 7 yards off the ball

I suspect that Springs is gone after this year. Guy has talent no doubt, but man is he unreliable this year.

The team needs to free up some cash, and sign Hall, Rogers, and Campbell this offseason.

The SJKbad dallas fans I was watchin' the Gints game with said the same thing.

Probably because they got beat early, but that's no real reason to change it, I don't think... they just pounded us to dirt after that...

I'm a big fan of getting to the QB hard and early, then backing off with some feign blitzes and picking them off in zone, then coming at him again.. y'know.. keep 'em guessing. Which I guess is what we did until Jesus made d'Hall drop the ball...

Flacco is a great find by a great general manager, something the skins desperately need. Unfortunately, Campbell is looking a lot more like Kyle boller than Joe Flacco.

Ravens will pound skins Sunday nite and I hope some of you deadskins fans will realize what a good organization you have in your backyard. Start spending some of your money on great gameday experience and head up to BMORE to watch a team and org that does things right on the field and most importantly cares about the FANS!!

Springs, it's not worth risking looking foolish against a rookie QB. Just make an appearance against San Fran and Cinci and tape should look better for you next employer.
