The Preliminary Practice Report

Jason La Canfora reports:

The following players do not appear to be practicing: Cornelius Griffin, Pete Kendall (it's Wednesday), London Fletcher, Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Chris Horton, Randy Thomas and Jon Jansen. Carlos Rogers is not practicing, either, because he has the flu.

Clinton Portis was on the field and, presumably, was practicing.

HERE WE GO FOLKS

The response from a New Orleans fan when I asked them about Leigh Torrence. Make of it what you will :

"Redskins fan,

In reference to Torrence,

I have seen him make some good special teams tackles. I think he is still getting acclimated to the system, but I like what I see so far. I think there is a ton of potential there."

Zorn is as much to blame if not more so than CP (Zorn's the head freaking coach, its his job to properly handle the players and the media). The fact that this is even an issue and that there is even blame on both sides shows how bad a coach Zorn is right now and how much he bungled this situation and seeing as how the only thing that Zorn changed at all (the passing game) is not working at all, I say can the guy and move on.

He can't get the one thing he's in charge of going despite a veteran unit with a top notch TE, RB, and WR with 3 2nd round picks given to him as well AND he doesn't know how to handle players in the media, then what exactly is he being paid for and why wait to see if he figures it all out?

Springs will play, he never misses a game.

Unless we missed a post about him being cut. Man, would that give Jasno something to write about. "As if Leigh Torrence wasn't bad enough...."

Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident!

All righty then.

Frade Zorn to Seattle for 2 2nd Rounders and call it a day. Nothing less....

Better?

Posted by: 4thFloor | December 10, 2008 1:56 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, Zorn has everything he needs to run a good offense.

Oh, except for those FIVE GUYS that make the holes for the backs, and keep the qb off the ground.

Yup, everything he needs. Funny how so many people talk about "building" but as soon as it gets rough they want dump what's been started and start over again.

F'in hilarious.

dealer, per the last thread: While I like Zorn and think he would be successful given time, if bringing in Cowher meant relieving Vinny of his talent evaluation duties, I would be all for it.

Posted by: freakzilla | December 10, 2008 1:58 PM | Report abuse

Portis was on the field and in pads, so presumablyis practicing to some degree.

Posted by: CindyBoren | December 10, 2008 1:58 PM | Report abuse

So...

Cornelius Griffin, Pete Kendall, London Fletcher, Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Chris Horton, Randy Thomas, Jon Jansen and Carlos Rogers might be getting benched this week, huh?

Posted by: 4thFloor | December 10, 2008 1:59 PM | Report abuse

Again, maybe Cowher will be a good thing. He should understand NFC EAST football. He will have complete control (no Vinnie).

Zorn isn't a bad thing. He's still learning. I think he would be good. He needs a great deal more input on personnel matters. Its obvious that he doesn't.

Posted by: periculum | December 10, 2008 1:59 PM | Report abuse

I think the Seattle offer was this:

We'll take Zorn and all those 2008 second round draft picks off you hands, in return, we'll give you Jim Mora ...

hey craig, if you're smart enough to know that they need "those FIVE GUYS that make the holes for the backs, and keep the qb off the ground" then why is your genius coach does not know that? why doesn't he go max protect instead of NO PROTECT??????????????????????????????

Posted by: dealer1 | December 10, 2008 2:00 PM | Report abuse

They'll be replaying the portis interview in about 10 minutes on 980 for anyone who hasn't heard it yet...

Posted by: 4thFloor | December 10, 2008 2:00 PM | Report abuse

How many years did it take Cowher to get the Steelers to win a championship? Do you think Redskins fans or Dan Snyder has that much patience?

Posted by: craig2 | December 10, 2008 1:57 PM

Craig--Aren't these two separate factions? The "build for the future" claque and the "blow it all up" contingent? Or is there just one set, the "Which way the wind blows" rabble?

I used to be a "build for the future" guy, but it's a hard position to maintain up here and I'm thinking of going to the dark side of the wind blowers.

well by my figuring up until two weeks ago we had the league's leading rusher, we have a probable 1000 yard receiver in Moss, and a top 5 in the league TE, and a decent strong armed mobile QB, there are a lot of teams doing well with a lot less. Can our oline line straight up and mash people? No, but they have their strengths, if we you did things like roll the pocket, a lot of shotgun, and a slant or hot route now and then instead of 5 step drops all the time.

Posted by: zjfr2 | December 10, 2008 2:08 PM | Report abuse

I heard a discussion on Sirius NFL Radio that the Redskins had the oldest team in the league, both with respect to the number of players over 30 and the number of players over 33. Not one of the oldest, THE oldest. Does anyone know the numbers on that? If this is accurate, it is not surprising that the team is wearing down as the season wears on.

Cornelius Griffin, Pete Kendall (it's Wednesday), London Fletcher, Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Chris Horton, Randy Thomas,Jon Jansen and Carlos Rogers not able to practice, so i guess zorn will hold they out sunday.

Here's the worst thing about the Portis/Zorn contretemps--it has knocked the Barber/Jerruh Jones brouhaha off the front page.

Jones questioned Marion Barber's manhood. All but called him yellow. Practically tore some (plastic) scar tissue sneering at the guy.
