The Ugly Mug on Saturday - PacMan Jones Is Definitely Not Invited

(Preface: From what I gather thanks to an email from dcsween, as of 9:30 Thurs. night the blog is still not taking comments. this is way over my head but I will try to get the right people on the case to fix it. thanks for putting up with this stuff).

So it's The Ugly Mug, Saturday night. Wanna say 7 ish? So where exactly is this place, and who's in? I'd love to get some sort of headcount. Also, is it Metro accessible (would love to leave the car behind and get after it a bit). Looks like Cindy is out - unless somehow we end up venturing back over this side of the Potomac - but I'll try to make up for her absence.

So, onto to PacMan. Dude, this guy is a beat schlubs nightmare. I know some people hold the misguided opinion that this kind of stuff "sells newspapers" and hold the perverse opinion that we in the media get off on this kind of foolishness. Trust me, no one I have ever met in this profession derives glee from a 2:30 am cell phone message followed by a trip to the lock-up and a daisy chain of police reports and lawyers and all of the madness. It stinks. It's no fun. It's the ugly side of sports and it takes away from doing the real job at hand.

I can only flashback to what a tedious exercise the whole Reaper pistol brandishing fiasco was, with all the lawyer changes and postponed trials and yada yada yada. And The Reaper is a squeaky-clean cross guard compared to Pac Man. So, in light of this I want to sincerely thank the Tennessee Titans organization, as well as the Skins, Vinny and the whole drafting crew. You boys looked after me.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Lauren and Chloe send their appreciation as well.

I can't imagine what this offseason would be like trying to stay on top of the human crime blotter that is PacMan. If you'll recall, the Skins were deadest on corners in the spring of '05 with that 9th overall pick. At one point that March PacMan's agent at the time, Gary Wichard, who was soon fired (as apparently was PMJ's most recent rep), had a pretty good feeling Jones might be coming to Redskins Park. He was a hot name in the building, but by the end of the process the Skins had Carlos rated higher.

Then the Titans spared me completely by taking PacMan sixth overall. My condolences to the fine people of the Nashville media contingent. Don't know what you guys did to deserve this jackass on your watch, and with any justice his stint in the NFL will be short. This guy has been a recurring problem since before he got in the league and this is beyond a trend now. Trouble doesn't just happen to follow him around; he is troubled.

Skins Stuff: Okay, the rest of this blog is only for those of you who truly have a Redskins sickness. The next few sentences will pertain to semantics about restricted free agents, two of whom usually couldn't crack the game-day actives list all season anyway. So feel free to change the channel. I won't hold it against you.

So the Skins have yet to tender any of their three potential restricted free agents - Ryan Boschetti, Jim Molinaro and Derrick Frost. They have until March 1 to make a qualifying offer, thereby retaining their rights, and, given the position these three are in, any of them would likely leap at the chance to sign that QO and get back to Ashburn. Boschetti's agent does not have a good feeling and figured he won't get an offer from the Skins (although he's going to try to bump into some people from the organization at the combine). Frosts's agent says that after the season Danny Smith told the punter that he would get a tender, and, given the fact that Frost is just an upstart punter, he realizes the team has other priorities right now. Like Frost, I would be shocked if the team does not tender him. He had a strong second half and if he continues to perform like that the job could be his for a while. As for Molinaro, for whatever reason each of the emails from his agent came through on my email completely blank. But if I had to guess I'd say the Skins might let him walk as well ...

Howard Bryant is in Indy at the draft and said he just might have a full-blown live blog entry for us Friday, so keep your fingers crossed ... Watching Idol right now. I think the first dude who performed Tuesday needs to go home ASAP. Something about him really annoyed me, and, oh yeah, he also couldn't sing.
Alright, I'm out. Definitely RSVP for the outing Saturday and hope to see you there.

All Pac Man was doing was trying to make it rain on those [dancers] and their promoter tried to steal his $81K.
