Skins Still Lead by 3 after 3

The Skins are having big problems in pass protection again, and the pass game lacks any vertical element. It's all short stuff, with a lot of plays and a lot of receptions, but no yardage.

They are taking time off the clock for sure, but again settling for field goal attempts rather than getting into the end zone. Defensively, it's been more bend and don't break, with the interceptions the difference in the game right now.

For the Skins, X-rays on LB Marcus Washington's ankle were negative.

Also, WR Antwaan Randle El has left the field to be evaluated. He suffered a left leg injury of some sort on that last punt return. Ladell Betts also limped off the field.

Where is the ATTACK, Zorn??

Posted by: fan-o-matic | November 16, 2008 10:36 PM | Report abuse

Gotta protect and build on the lead. rush 5 or more to get pressure

Posted by: Realness1 | November 16, 2008 10:36 PM | Report abuse

They've also stopped calling holding.

Good drop Witten. THat might of been a TD

Both sides of the Line have been horrendous tonight.

Campbell looks like he's reverted to the way he played in the first and second game: tentative about his passing, his decisions. Maybe guys are covered, but he looks a little unsure.

Posted by: fan-o-matic | November 16, 2008 10:41 PM | Report abuse

Time for the offense to stop being offensive, and score some freaking POINTS.

Posted by: RGMBill | November 16, 2008 10:42 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, I saw Gurode facemask Taylor on the shovel pass, but it didn't affect the play. But he did grasp and push...

The kickoff shows how much wind is up there... 15 yards or so. That explains a bit of Suisham's miss... definitely looked long enough when it left his foot.

Campbell doesn't have time to throw. The O line has taken the night off.

Skins are tackled by one player or first contact. Not so the other team.

Where is the Skins heart?

I am not a big blame it on therefs guy, but there have been some very serious no calls against the cowboys.

I'll bet that they can correlate JC's connection to the coach going on the fritz after every time he gets his bell rung.

unusual to find Defensive Coordinator yelling to offense

Posted by: ga8085 | November 16, 2008 10:51 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: vze2bnyf | November 16, 2008 10:52 PM | Report abuse

21-10, 17-10, or 14-10 will be the final score in favor of DAL.

So basically who do we start blaming?

Posted by: jiacinto | November 16, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

I'm just disgusted... we should have won this game... I suppose we still CAN, but it's not likely at this point... I mean, it only takes one bomb to Moss to kill the Cowboys... but we never connected on the bombs to Moss, because we never got protection on the offensive line. I think CP and JC need to BOTH call them out tonight.

Posted by: RGMBill | November 16, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

Blatche has called his worst game as a D-coordinator yet. 5 times in this game we sold out and blitzed leaving cover-0 man behind it, and 5 times they got first downs on those plays. So what do we do when it's 3rd and 8 and it's our only chance to come back? We do it again. First down #6.

Posted by: intense1212 | November 16, 2008 11:04 PM | Report abuse

You have a guy with a broken finger and you don't even touch him all night? Makes no sense.

And Campbell is shell shocked. He's been attacked all night and has no confidence left. Why not make an adjustment if your QB is taking a beating? Zorn did nothing and they just kept coming.

Posted by: austin987654 | November 16, 2008 11:04 PM | Report abuse

Horrible game plan by the D coaches.. O coaches wasnt much better... Cowboys didnt do jack this game to win it.. SKins gave it to them... ALl that damn illadvised blitzing... WTF!

Every game we play has to come own to the last freakin' play. The conservatism looks a lot like the second Gibbs regime.

Posted by: vze2bnyf | November 16, 2008 11:05 PM | Report abuse

Kinda harsh Curzon. Zorn can't catch the ball for Thomas, or make a quicker throw for JC, and he sure as hell can't fill gaps and wrap up Barber

If you replaced Zorn and Campbell with my dog and I, either one in either position the outcome would have at worst been the same.

This offense is the most pathetic thing the the world. You score 10 points at home? 10 points? They don't even deserve to play football anymore.

Posted by: Pleepleus | November 16, 2008 11:11 PM | Report abuse

The only thing that Campbell needs to learn is that when you're behind in the 4th quarter, you need to accept a little more risk.

As someone said earlier, force it in there.

Basically, he was running for his life on most pass plays.

Posted by: _Stumped_1 | November 16, 2008 11:11 PM | Report abuse

Trying not to be irrational but Tripplett(the ref) did miss several calls...including Barber(did not get in...his elbow did hit) although he prolly still would have scored. Cartwright did have possession and then tossed it back, therefore it should have been downed at the one...and one other but I forget...they were all in a row. Otherwise, very ugly coached game.

Skins currently have the second wildcard. It's all on them. Girls have a tough row to hoe - @Pitt, NYG, B'more, @Philly - at most they only win one of those games.

Posted by: ga8085 | November 16, 2008 11:13 PM | Report abuse

This offense has no pride in anyway. Campbell doesn't get rid of the ball but its not all his fault. The line shouldn't get paid for the past 3 weeks. They should willingly give back the paychecks. I have never been so sick of a team in my life. the offense has no pride.

He shouldn't still be green now. This guy has had a lot of playing time now... young qbs with this much experience should be looking better.

O line sucked, but that's only part. Campbell just didn't look as confident in his decision making as he did earlier. He's taken a couple of steps backwards, I think. Not trusting his receivers and his timing routes.

IMO

dallas is not a good team and may still not make the playoffs. Offensively we also are not a good team...

Posted by: Curzon417 | November 16, 2008 11:13 PM | Report abuse

This team has officially hit the wall. After a bye week, we look just as average and unimaginative as we did against the Steelers. It's only because of the inferiority of our opponent that we aren't getting blown out. One nice drive to start the game and then we fart around the field for 3 and half quarters.

Zorn has completed his evolution into Gibbs 2.0. Scared, conservative unimaginative play-calling. Same old runs that everyone sees coming. Absolutely no development in the passing game. Check-downs and screens. Pass protection looks as shaky as ever.

Devin "The Sp-Ed" Thomas needs to get sent back to community college.

Someone forgot to tell Suisham it was a 46-yard, not a 26 yard field goal.

The only thing I remember about LaRon Landry so far this season is the play where he got walked on by Brandon Jacobs.

Our pass rush is so ineffective we should just bench Carter and Taylor and play 9 guys in coverage.

We are fading big-time; and at the wrong stage of the season.

Urgency.....One team plays with it...Our team continues to play like we're up by 2 TD's when we're actually up by 1 point or down by 10......LOL....What excuse will we come up with....The STL game, Pit game, and now this....We're not a good team especially when you sign a washed up RB who doesn't deserve to be on any NFL team....Portis had no choice but to play..Now let's watch the losses mount...Playoffs...Doubt it.

Didn't we have a young, promising QB a couple years back who kept getting his a** crunched by sacks and he became gunshy and tanked? Let's pray JC doesn't go that way. O-line, it's on you this time.
AAAKK!

Some terrible calls and non-calls (Dallas false starts, anyone?) but this one was on Zorn. Barber is a stud and everyone knew what was coming. Jason Campbell was getting killed and the O-Line is looking beat up. Zero pressure brought to bear on Romo. I am absolutely sick. The conventional thinking on rookie coaches is that you hope for a better team in the last 4 games of the season than the first 4. This team looks like it's going backwards and suddenly the Seattle game is huge. 4:15am in the UK now. Gutted.

say what you want about gibbs's offense, but he knew how to protect the qb.
campbell is a sitting duck back there.
pathetic, really. though hardly surprising.

Gibbs used Buges. Buges is still there.

If you replaced Zorn and Campbell with my dog and I, either one in either position the outcome would have at worst been the same.

True. My cat could have worn the headset tonight and called a better game.

le,
thanks that helps a little.
We split games with Dallas, but in some ways i can get over it.

We helped screw up their season and brought them to their desperate state, which unfortunately bit us in the @ss.

Everything the Redskins did wrong tonight they've done wrong all season. It's just now, after nine weeks of games, even against bad teams like Dallas, the Skins are a found bunch. Everyone knows everything they want to do. Unless this team has a more dynamic offense and a better pass rush, they'll win another two, maybe three, games this season. I have a feeling there's too much wrong here to be corrected in a week or two, and the playoffs are but a distant memory.

As for tonight, Campbell regressed and made some awful throws. The offensive line had major breakdowns everywhere. The defense continued to give up chunks of yardage and big plays at the end of halves. No pass rush and porous pass defense didn't help, either. But really, you won't beat anyone in this league scoring just 10 points. So all the off tackles, slants and screens have to give way for some down-field stuff soon or no one will respect Washington's offense down the line. So much wrong to fix, so little time. That's what the bye week is supposed to be for, but I guess Zorn and Co. didn't use it productively. He's a new coach, so I'm not calling for his head. But this FO has to figure out what's ailing this team and fix it. Stop drafting pass catchers and start patching up the D- and O-lines. I don't trust Snyder, Vinny and the other cronies in the franchise's upper management, though, so I wonder if it will ever be fixed.

We were manhandled by stronger lines. I love the heart of our team, but with the exceptions of Samuels on the O-line, and A Carter on the D-line, none of our guys are physically intimidating, quick or cut. This is the part of the season when our 30-something O-line begins to break down physically. On the D, our sack total is near the bottom of the league and opposing Qs have all day. I don't understand how the team can continue to put off drafting youth and strength on the front lines year, after year, after year. WE NEED BIGS UP FRONT, desperately. As good as the coaching has been, and as inspired the players are, you can't will yourself over physical deficiency, not over a whole season.

e, were on the same page...I don't understand why he would getaway from what was working. You saw what max protect can do earler I'm the year and on one pass play in this game. This is the NFC east!!!

Defense -- less than 20 points. Check!
Offense -- more than 20 points... hmmph.

I was willing to take the hit against Pittsburgh, but the CowPies... no way.
I reiterate... JC must be more decisive. he's grow comfortable checking down to 2nd/3rd reads, and it's making the offense less efficient.

dallas is not a good team and may still not make the playoffs. Offensively we also are not a good team...

yeah, your team really lit it up, the only you made it down the field was with penalties!!!!
Stop jerking to cambell he sucks, he is a never will be. Its over, the losses will pile up!

Posted by: Dfan | November 16, 2008 11:18 PM | Report abuse

Good thing the Skins used their 3 second rounders on 2 WR and a TE who replicates a player they already have, and Tryon who couldnt cover my slow @ss in the 4th, then a punter in the 6th who has already been cut instead of some linemen.

Cerrato is a sham of a GM whose only qualification is raquetball partner. Until he is gone the Skins will flounder in mediocrity, which will be a long time since "Mighty Mouse" will never fire him.

Gee...who could have predicted that completely neglecting both lines through the draft for the past 5 years would come back and bite you?

If Campbell had 1/3 the time Romo had to throw all night we would have picked them apart.

but golly gee golly, we won all of our division road game! But wait The washington post will still cover these losers and ignore the only real athletes in town, Alex Ovechkin and company. Maybe now people will see Zorn for who he is, and second string QB who got to play only because of expansion. We have a expansion QB head coach and a Lil' Abner owner. Way to embarrass Darryl Green and Art Monk, whose teams would have never put forth the lame effort these bozo's showed tonite and all year at home. But wait, we have won all of our division road games! Look at us!

It's thoroughly amusing to read some (the majority) of these posts. The change in attitude and temperament amongst the RI faithful wrt to Zorn. In case you guys/gals didn't get the memo: This team is a Gibbs reincarnate.

Its not about Zorn. It is as most intelligible observers note: Games are one and lost at the line of scrimmage. The 'Skins no longer can control the line of scrimmage in the fourth quarter. All of their games have been won or lost in the last quarter of the game.

An old and crafty offensive line has proved to be a liability for the 'Skins. As stated here b4, this is a 9-7 maybe 10-6 ball club. Not a bad thing, but a reality.

I have a feeling Snyder is ripping the team up in the locker room.

After this debacle, I'd be surprised if we end up better than 6-10.

Posted by: wagman1 | November 16, 2008 11:24 PM | Report abuse

There are really only two reasons we lost:

1. Offensive line got dominated. Campbell was getting hit on every single passing attempt. One frigging drive the whole night, even with two turnovers.

2. Defensive line continues to have no pass rush, none, zilch, zero. Romo was getting 4 or 5 seconds on every passing play. In addition our defensive ends were getting beat every single running play. They were not even close to the ball carrier all night.

JZ press conference: It's a hard knock life for us. It's a hard knock life for us. Steada treated we get tricked. Steada TDs we get kicks. It's a hard knock life.

Posted by: learnedhand1 | November 16, 2008 11:27 PM | Report abuse

Zorn said the defense played decently. He's blaming the pass protection. Said they had plays down the field but couldn't get the ball off because the protection wasn't there.

Posted by: learnedhand1 | November 16, 2008 11:29 PM | Report abuse

You know why we did so well early in the season, Jansen was on the bench. Even though we ran only to one side, the extra pass protection allowed our offense to be balanced, take more shots downfield, and therefore be more dynamic. Our lines need attention, but most of all, bench Jansen. Tonight it was mainly Rabach and Samuels who were getting owned, but still. Our defense played well until it got tired. Our defense isn't the issue, it's the OL.

Posted by: JesusFreakKaren | November 16, 2008 11:31 PM | Report abuse

The defense only allowed 14 points and had two turnovers. We should have won with that. How in the heck did Thomas make this team? Oh yeah, I forgot, never mind.

Anyone have a Tryon sighting?

Posted by: driley | November 16, 2008 11:32 PM | Report abuse

We wasted a great opportunity to put a nail in the Cowboys coffin - and to ensure the national sports media would stop talking about them ad nauseum. But we could not do that...now they are right back in there with the next 2 games being home games against SF and Seattle.

Looks like Jerry Jones was right....the flippin' Cowboys will make the playoffs. Our beloved Skins.....I doubt it.
