Third quarter: Redskins 35, Bills 10

The Redskins continued piling on after the intermission.

The struggling Bills offense could muster only another three-and-out to begin the second half, and Brandon Banks then did in less than 10 seconds what Buffao hadn't yet managed: get in the end zone.

The rookie out of Kansas State took Brian Moorman's punt and bounced out to the sideline where he showed off his blazing speed, needing only one cut inside to get by the lead-footed punter for the 77-yard touchdown. Graham Gano's extra point extended the lead to 28-3.

Another Buffalo three-and-out, the team's fourth, followed. Rex Grossman then led the Redskins down the field for another touchdown. The 9-play, 70-yard drive lasted exactly four minutes and was completed with a Devin Thomas 44-yard touchdown reception on third and nine to give the Redskins a 35-3 lead. The third-year receiver ran a corner-post route to get behind the Bills secondary when Grossman connected with him. Thomas had caught a nine-yard pass on a third and three earlier in the drive.

The Redskins' defense shut down the Bills again, as Ryan Fitzpatrick completed a seven-yard pass to Donald Jones to begin the drive but two incompletions followed, leading to the Bills' fifth three-and-out.

John Beck made his debut in the ensuing Redskins series and the offense struggled. Ryan Torain, who got the majority of the carries in the quarter, started the drive with a one-yard run but incompletions by Beck on the next two plays led to a three-and-out. But instead of the Bills offense getting on the field, Buffalo punt returner Ashton Youtouby muffed the Josh Bidwell punt and Roydell Williams pounced on it.

Beck didn't find success on his second drive, which was resulted in another three-and-out.

The Bills offense, fueled by a 43-yard run from Chad Simpson, finally broke through with a touchdown on the next series. Simpson broke a Ramzee Robinson tackle and stepped out of bounds on the Redskins five-yard line. Two plays later Fitzpatrick found David Nelson in the end zone for the touchdown to cut the Washington lead to 35-10.

Ah, any minute now the Cult of Colt morons should be in full force calling for Rex to be the Game 1 starter because of his lights-out performance against backups!!

Time for the defense to force a turnover.

"Where is Babe Laufenburg when you need him?"

He announces for the Cowgirls down in Dallas.

He can stay there as far as I am concerned.

Deciding on the RB position will be difficult especially if Brian Westbrook joins the team.

Posted by: TWISI | August 13, 2010 10:31 PM | Report abuse

Anybody ever hear WTF Slow Willie and especially LJ were tonight?

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | August 13, 2010 10:32 PM | Report abuse

I think if Westbrook joins the team, it's a fairly easy decision. It's CP, LJ, and Westbrook.

I think without Westbrook, there's going to be a huge battle for the #3 spot.

Hahahaha Lendy Holmes got tackled by his own team-mate

Going to be fun watching this game tomorrow to see the individual battles.

The Skins looked good. Is it just me or is Trent Williams a beast?

Good game. Trent Williams is a beast. Banks, Austin look like they belong on the team at least on the special teams. Devin was inconsistent but has time to get it going. Carter needs to work on his contain responsibility. AH at NT was good, at DE has to work on contain. The Ravens will provide a stiffer test, but I like what I saw.

I know it's only the first preseason game, but man, that was EASY. The Brain Trust could have done that in their sleep.

Snyder: stay the hell outta the booth. It's nowhere close to Week 1, you possess no charisma whatsoever, and we still hate you.
