Skins Lead 7-3 after Three

They rode the run game as expected. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Rock makes another big play on teams. Portis is churning up the yards and the Browns' defense is wilting. With JC looking a little beat up, you'd figure they keep running the heck out of the ball. Jamal Lewis, a big back, seems to be getting the better of the Skins defense now, too. Power football vs. power football. Somewhere Joe Gibbs is smiling.

Skins have certainly been the better team, and, playing with a lead at home after that debacle last week, should be able to put this away.

If we should lose this game, it sure won't be because of Anderson. Man, they should trade him for Patrick Ramsey.

And if we win, we should give the dude a game ball.

Not trying to be overly critical but I got to ask.
"How Jason Taylor made one just one play today?
I no longer live in DC TV area, but listen to games on Skins radio broadcast, and don't think I've heard his name all day.

What we have here is a playoff caliber Defense. If they continue to keep us in games, the offense may catch up and be ready for the post season!

Unbelievable, the very next play Taylor makes his first play of the day!

See him turning conservative now.

Why not quick slant?
Or maybe that quick WR screen and see if Santana can break one tackle for the clinching first down?

Now we punt and have to hope D can stop them; but last week our D could not prevent Rams from last drive FG

That's one way to think about it. I thought we earned the victory with the goal line defenses and that they were lucky to punch the ball out of CP's hand.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | October 19, 2008 7:14 PM | Report abuse

They've gotta get something with the passing game open. They're relying on the run because it freaking works. We need to use that from now on with play action to cooley or moss.

I wouldn't call anything we did today a spanking. Defense yeah, but the offense looked disgustingly similar to recent years. Win is a win though.

Probably. Most superstitious people think it's the name. Some Native Americans put a curse on us and won't take it off until we change our name to the Pansies or something like that.

Posted by: talent_evaluator

But look at pre-FedEx and post Fedex, you know?

The Native Americans' curse did not affect the SB wins.

And thinking it is the stadium is not superstitious.

F - you gotta admit, CP was on a roll, and that got us some major breathing room if he could only hang on to the football.

A win's a win. But we lucked out there.

Posted by: jiacinto | October 19, 2008 7:17 PM | Report abuse

That's one way to think about it. I thought we earned the victory with the goal line defenses and that they were lucky to punch the ball out of CP's hand.

Don't you think that Andersen stank the whole game, but we let them hang in?

It could be a one point victory I really don't give a rats a**. How many of you would have been happy with a 5-2 record at teh start?

Look we're a good running team and we can run the ball all we want but that doesn't put points on the board unless we ix that up with more deep passes.

JFKaren--

I see we're on the same page about who was lucky.

Also, I've been wanting to tell you about a new book I saw by James Patterson, "Against Medical Advice," about a family living with Tourrette's Syndrome. Thought it may be of interest if you haven't seen it already.

Overlook CP's one miscue cuz without his 175 yards, we don't win. You are forgiven CP.

Can I get an "Amen" if I say that we have a strong tendency to play to the level of our competition?

Posted by: freakzilla | October 19, 2008 7:20 PM | Report abuse

I'm happy. Ugly win means 1) Win, and 2) No overconfidence.

But let's be real, Andersen missed a ton of passes to open people.

Dude, both teams play in the stadium. How is thinking that it affects the Redskins but not the opponents anything but superstition?

Posted by: talent_evaluator | October 19, 2008 7:21 PM | Report abuse

Amen freak.

I thought the mentality had changed after the first five or six games, but with the return to the jinxed stadium, we are right back. Spurrier, Gibbs, that San Diego coach...does not matter. What matters NOW is the stadium.

This was a beuty looking from the Defenses stand point.

Great win! D giving up nothing...

Glad you asked.

The home team expects to feel a certain vibe from the crowd, and expects to really really like playing at home.

There is something about the stadium, FedEx, whether it is the fact that noise is frequently piped in (fake), or knowing that they are not playing in the CITY, I don't know. I have a feeling of what it is...but the vibe of the stadium is not sufficiently motivating the players.

Giving up RFK was giving up a major major part of their identity. Can you recover from that?

I don't know.

Beeps.

Posted by: freakzilla | October 19, 2008 7:26 PM | Report abuse

Basically it's like they are not at home at all.
