Skins Down 16-6 after Three

Pittsburgh's QB pressure has been too much. The Skins never adapted and keeping Jason Campbell healthy had better become the priority here.

Byron Leftwich threw a perfect pass to open the half and the Steelers seem to be going in for the kill here. This smelled like the wrong team at the wrong time for the Skins; we'll see if they conjure some magic. Jim Zorn is having a rough night. Doesn't seem to have any tricks up his sleeve.

OK, I am officially asking the FB gods for one more turnover.

We need to keep them out of the end zone here... we can still have a chance if we can do that, otherwise.... it looks like this goes down to a 2 week wait for Dallas and redemption.

Need a turnover... where's the WonderRookie?

Posted by: RGMBill | November 3, 2008 11:08 PM | Report abuse

Leftwich coming in for the Steelers saved the game for them. Big Ben was not much better than Campbell but Leftwich has won the game for the Steelers.

Our D has to be exhausted. I'm just ready for the game to end before it gets any worse. Hope they burn those unis!

Now the DAL games looms very large.

I think we're just beat up and in need of a bye week. I am worried about Dallas being out for blood in two weeks since lots of their injured players will be back and they'll think they have something to prove.

Posted by: suzannepdc | November 3, 2008 11:06 PM

Well the one thing is that this will keep the jinx of the presidential election going. If the Redskins lose the game before the election the incumbent party loses. If they win the incumbent party wins.

Still, 6-3 going into the bye is a-okay with me (since coming into the season I thought we'd be 3-6 going into the bye).

I pity Romo... he'll be back, but we're going to be out for blood... we'll be in danger of falling behind Philly if we lose this week and against Dallas.

Well this whole game looks like a disaster. Now the question comes of who to blame.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 3, 2008 11:11 PM | Report abuse

let's see...you've got defenders who can't get to the quaterback unless it's on a blitz. the best sacker at that is a safety. you've got corners who can't catch the ball even if it hits them b/w the numbers. the best interceptor at that is your safety, the very same safety who can sack the quaterback. if you ask me, the redskins will not go far this season...PERIOD.

Observations:

Tony Kornheiser is PAINFULL to listen too- absolutley sucks. Worse than Dennis Miller.

Jon Jansen cannot pass block.

Fred Smoot is a major weakness- Shawn Springs suck it up and return.

The number of Pittsburgh fans at teh stadium (all nfc teams for that matter) is ridiculous. Stadium might hold 90,000 but it's always a 60-40 split for big games.

Posted by: JeanJak | November 3, 2008 11:20 PM | Report abuse

Considering that Kornheiser SHOULD be a homer for the Redskins, it is pretty painful to hear him laughing so much in this.

That was our last timeout, down by 17 with 8 minutes left. Not good, but we need the 7 here.

I said it since the first quarter. That we should have been going to Cooley. We were trying to force it to Moss and with that pressure the short passes was the way to go. Oh well heal the wounds and get ready for Dallas.

the redskins so far this season have wasted opportunities in the red zones, rely too much on a defense that can't sack anyone, and can't intercept anything have managed to get the job done somehow...UNTIL today. apparently we have failed to learn from the giants game b/c the very same thing happened then that is happening now. WE ARE NOW GOING TO WIN GAMES THAT COUNT UNTIL WE CAN SUCCESSFULLY RUSH THE PASSER WITH 4.

Give it up to the steelers they came to play some football. Our defense came to play some football but they can't play alone and expect to win. We got away from the run which is mainly the reasons we lost. The play calling is too conservative -- dink and dunk but not challenge to run and tear. Suddenly that Ram games seem so important and gave it away.

Losing to St. Louis and barely beating Cleveland and Detroit was a pretty good omen of what this football team is today. The offensive line just laid down and whimpered tonight. Holding calls, missed blocks, getting run completely over, nearly getting Campbell killed a score of times--you could tell Zorn had no faith in them because of the calls he made on fourth down. This team on offense seemed demoralized from the beginning-- they had nothing, simply nothing.

A bad looking loss, but actually the games against AFC teams are the 4 least important games on our schedule. Much more concerned about Fedex in the middle of a 6-2 season.
Season ticket holders, if you were there tonight and had a Steelers fan next to you, give the owner of that seat hell next time you see them. Don't let them live it down. Point out to everyone in the section that they sold out the Skins. Make it extremely unpleasant for them to attend a game until they realize that they gave away home field advantage and are sure to never do it again. Aren't people in DC who are skins fans dying to get tickets? Isn't DC ( and 'burbs) known as a big money town and Pitsburgh known as a "blue-collar" town where wages and C.O.L. are low. It makes no sense, but it sure is pathetic.

29 seconds left, and the Redskins offense has been totally embarrased by the Steelers defense. Redskins defense played pretty well, but still, the offense lost this game. Bad calls, bad judgement... Good thing the Bye is here. Maybe they can regroup and get their heads on right for the second half of the season. I'd sure like to see it happen, but, I don't know. Loss to the Lions, the Steelers, St. Louis, all mediocre teams. Get it together guys, we fans are counting on you, and we'd hate to be let down yet again.

The Skins lost to a very good football team. I'm cool with it.

This doesn't hurt as much as the Rams loss (a game the Redskins should have won).

It's a reminder that at the halfway point - and with a bye week to heal - this team needs to work on some things.

I think they'll be fine.

Game plan, stop portis skins have nothing else, cambell can't win a game himself he is a fraud!

Posted by: Dfan | November 3, 2008 11:54 PM | Report abuse

The Skins offense is not one that can bring you back into a game if the Skins defense can't stop anyone. If you look at all of our wins so far this season, the season has done enough to keep the game close against average teams. When we play the above average teams like the Giants and Steelers, and others sure to come I am sure, the defense can only do so much if the offense does not waste their opportunities in the red zone. Had it not been for the blocked punt, the Skins would have still been in this game. Once you go down to a good team, the skins defense b/c of their inability to reach the QB with four is forced to blitz more which only open more holes for a good team on offense. With our offense then forced to become one dimensional by passing the ball more than rushing it, the game is over. The solution to the Skins winning is:
1) Score TDs early from the RED ZONE from now on b/c we have been playing too conservative by relying on our defense too much.
2) Find a pass rusher somehow, b/c when your leading pass rusher is a defensive back on the team, something is wrong there. With a good front four on defense who can reach the QB the game is never out of reach.
Since we have neglected to get young pass rushers either through the draft or free agency for so many years, as we seem to favor old and injury prone ones at that, jason taylor this year, WE WILL NOT GO FAR THIS SEASON...PERIOD

Campbell is crap! I'm a life long diehard redskin fan and am tired of this crappy product and ready to get on with a new QB that can think and play. Campbell takes unnecessary sacks when he could throw it away. He is not a thinking QB and I have routed for him for 4 years, but the game he just threw(I'm sure he knows the pre election history of if the Skins lose the other party is in and wouldn't be surprised if this game was thrown) is what he has done for the last 4 seasons to disappoint the fans. We need to look in another direction, because Jason is too up and down; at best he is a 500 QB.
Sorry but the last interception was poor concentration and poor decision by Jason.

Lastly, in Jason's defense; Washington should never and I mean never get out of the shotgun. He fumbles and has no peripheral vision what so ever. I blame Zorn for the poor play calling and clock management.

Carlos Roger killed us! He is straight Garbage as a corner;couldn't cover a pot of greens!

Why was Santana sitting out when he was not hurt?????????????

This is an absolute disgrace. I wish we were still in RFK there's no way that many Steelers fans show up, if they did they wouldn't show their colors. I remember the brawls with the idiot cowboys fans in the parking lots that tried to walk in wearing Dallas jerseys and ended up bear chested or got sent home. Man I miss the gold old days of that N.E./S.E. atmosphere.

Rogers is killing this team with dropped picks, that one could have been six. Jansen and Samuels are horrific in pass protection they're done cut them in off season please, and Torrence once again was lost in coverage. Moss should have sat out if he's going to stand on the sidelines in situations where the team needs him, if he's that bad off then no need in making the injury worse for the handful of plays he was in.

Oh, those terrible towels was killing me, I'm glad I wasn't there, or I'd probably be needing bail tomorrow. Some of those folks would have been choking on those rags going back up 95. No way my crew and I would have withstood that in the seats. That was just sickening.

"Loss to the Lions, the Steelers, St. Louis, all mediocre teams"
It is a shame we lost to the mediocre Steelers(6-2), and it is a huge shock to me that we lost the Lions. I could have sworn the 'skins won that one, but I'm sure with the support of knowledgeable and faithful fans like the one who made the comment above that the 'Skins will be all right.

CindyBoren-You were not at the game and it seems like you can talk big time on the Post.
Get over it..Your team lost to a good team.
No matter where the Steelers play it is Steelers Country!!!!

The Redskins just didn't bring their A game on national T.V last night.
Move on and quit trying to bully Steelers Fans...
We stay true to those who wave the Terrible Towels.
