Skin Take Lead in 3rd Quarter

The Skins have run directly at the edge of the Philly D and are gashing them now. It's been almost all runs behind the tackles - with a guard often pulling - and the Eagles seem gassed now.

The Redskins obviously need to finish this drive with 7 and not 3, but they are out-muscling the Eagles now and exerting their will. Defensively, London Fletcher is all over Brian Westbrook and the Eagles lack direction on offense since that stellar opening drive.

And you gotta love Zorn's use of judicious motion inside the red zone again. He sends Randle El in motion before he takes that end around and throws the option pass to Cooley for the go-ahead TD. Well scripted play.

Very impressive 45 minutes of football for the Skins. They have dominated since the first quarter.

let's see if we can deliver another virtuoso 4th. . .

Posted by: Schroeder12 | October 5, 2008 3:33 PM | Report abuse

Those of you regs who know me know that I live in Indiana. Fox, after the NFL pregame show, decided to put on re-runs of CHEERS instead of ANY football game, let alone the Skins-Iggles. I've been watching the scoreboard refresh online and listening to the gang on Redskins Radio-- man, this sounds like a game I wish I could be watching. We sound dominating.

Mmm.

Posted by: TDawg1 | October 5, 2008 3:33 PM | Report abuse

is it just me, or is porting running very well, but doesn't have that extra gear anymore? or is the eagles defense just that fast?

Posted by: spotter | October 5, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

He doesn't. I noticed the same thing in an earlier game this season. No matter, long as he can still punch it in! TD!

Posted by: ga8085 | October 5, 2008 3:34 PM | Report abuse

should have challanged that 1st down.

Posted by: alex35332 | October 5, 2008 3:34 PM | Report abuse

It's Chris Horton time!

Posted by: austin987654 | October 5, 2008 3:35 PM | Report abuse

I know we're up 9 points, but I am getting nervous. For instance, 40 yard play just now.

Posted by: suzannepdc | October 5, 2008 3:36 PM | Report abuse

cannot go to sleep here, westbrook is deadly, I remember what happened last year at fedex. . .

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | October 5, 2008 3:36 PM | Report abuse

damn, Horton, there is a difference between NCAA and NFL type mistake.

Posted by: alex35332 | October 5, 2008 3:36 PM | Report abuse

The downside of Horton time. Still playing college ball.

Posted by: daggar | October 5, 2008 3:36 PM | Report abuse

this isn'tcollege rules. That cost us 30 yds.

Posted by: frediefritz | October 5, 2008 3:37 PM | Report abuse

Is it unethical that I bet 2 of my students a combined total of $40 that the Skins would win? I think their taunting about the greatness of the Cowgirls did me in...

Posted by: TDawg1 | October 5, 2008 3:37 PM | Report abuse

A nice interception in the endzone would be nice.

Posted by: suzannepdc | October 5, 2008 3:38 PM | Report abuse

The offense has been playing well. But I would hope that they would hold them to an FG.

Posted by: jiacinto | October 5, 2008 3:39 PM | Report abuse

Tdawg, it's only unethical if you lose ;-)

Posted by: Alan4 | October 5, 2008 3:39 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: fnralch | October 5, 2008 3:40 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Alan4 | October 5, 2008 3:40 PM | Report abuse

ok pound that rock here with a nice range of RB's and Play Action I say!

Posted by: alex35332 | October 5, 2008 3:41 PM | Report abuse

Now run the rock down their ever-lovin' throats for the reaminder of the game...when they step up to stop it, hit Cooley to move the chains...

Posted by: Schroeder12 | October 5, 2008 3:41 PM | Report abuse

time for the O to put this one away. . .

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | October 5, 2008 3:41 PM | Report abuse

that sort of goal-line stand should be a weakness for us. Doesn't make the Philly oline look like world beaters...

Posted by: daggar | October 5, 2008 3:42 PM | Report abuse

I'm going to New Orleans next week-- I could use $40 for taxi fare.

GO SKINS.

Posted by: TDawg1 | October 5, 2008 3:42 PM | Report abuse

We can't be complacent here being ahead by 6. We need a score as Philly will be going for it on 4th down on the next drive. I really hope we get the first down here or we will be looking at a very nerve racking ending.

i'm proud to say the only think i can be upset about is that f'in punter. if this team were 1-4 he would have been fired as an "example".

zorn has brass ones, jc is possessed and cp is just a beast. hail skins.

So how has Jansen been today? Also again offense has yet to turn the ball over.

Posted by: mofass79 | October 5, 2008 3:58 PM | Report abuse
I thought Jansen played a very solid game. Looked like his old self. Had his feet underneath him on pass-blocking. Couldn't see him on rushing plays, but we rushed for over 200 yds, so he didn't screw up too much there.

Posted by: frediefritz | October 5, 2008 4:11 PM | Report abuse

Scary part is.. Devin Thomas is heating up.. When he really gets going we really will be freaking dangerous..

Posted by: cocodc1 | October 5, 2008 4:11 PM | Report abuse

With all due reverance to Gibbs, Zorn goes for the jugular! I like that.

Posted by: austin987654 | October 5, 2008 4:11 PM | Report abuse

I am absolutely LOVING this offensive line right now.... what was the time of possession the last two weeks vs. Eagles and Cowboys? Now THIS is Redskins football!!!!!!! DOMINATE up front! Hail!!!

Posted by: lsskinsfan | October 5, 2008 4:13 PM | Report abuse

Good Point skinsfan - watching the game on the intergoogles was a little annoying this afternoon.

All I can say is "wow, just wow!" Goal line stand, JC running for the first down, CP BULLING, WILLING his way to the first down on the last drive.

TK - where'd you hide the keys to the bandwagon?

Posted by: JohnDinHouston | October 5, 2008 4:14 PM | Report abuse

there is a difference between Cyced and Psyched but both are good. Its a long way off but we need to kick the cr@p out of the gints.

Posted by: alex35332 | October 5, 2008 4:17 PM | Report abuse

Hope this shuts up the Campbell haters.

Posted by: kreator6996 | October 5, 2008 4:18 PM | Report abuse

i'm with ya Alex. I give JC and Zorn so much credit. It is refreshing after Gibbs to see the team play without fear of losing. Being aggressive is making them fun to watch again!

This win was without J Taylor, and Spring s on D, and i hope M Kelly comes along and D Thomas cuts out the penalties.

Posted by: lsskinsfan | October 5, 2008 4:20 PM | Report abuse

oh yes, game ball to ... Suisham.

3 FGs, all from over 40 yards is what kept this team in the game. The Skins didn't make it into the red zone in the entire first half.

He did have 1 shanked kick off, but otherwise he was money. Akers missed his long attempt, but Suisham made all of his. Those long FGs kept us in the game and ultimately provided the margin of victory.
