Thomas Says Hamstring Is 'A Little Sore' (Updated)

Wide receiver Devin Thomas said he did not participate in the first session of the second day of minicamp today at Redskins Park because he tweaked his hamstring when he became entangled with safety Reed Doughty yesterday.

"It's a little sore, so I just need to get treatment and rest it for a little bit," Thomas said.

At the moment, he said that participating in the final day of minicamp work tomorrow is not part of the plan. And he figures that he'll miss at least some of next week's four organized-team activity sessions.

Coach Jim Zorn reiterated that Thomas would likely miss at least a few days and said he is comfortable with having Thomas back for June OTAs. The injury is to the same hamstring that Thomas hurt last year.

"I don't want it to pull," Zorn said. "I don't want him to have a setback."

oh well. so much for him. hopefully m. kelly can step it up. we're probably doomed.

Posted by: Salinas1 | May 2, 2009 12:36 PM | Report abuse

This does not bode well for our offense. Aging and thin offensive line, bust draft picks at wr, disgruntled QB. The defense better be able to score!

Posted by: splitbill | May 2, 2009 12:48 PM | Report abuse

Funny how guys who play for the patriots don't get pulled hamstrings during preseason. to me it is a lame excuse to not practice. everything starts at the top and trickles down. If danny boy snyder ran a tighter ship, then the coaches would not put up with players getting out of practice, jim zorn, and everyone would be practicing. hey boys, this is where preparation for the season starts!

Posted by: candyangle | May 2, 2009 12:49 PM | Report abuse

So happy we traded down to get three pass-catchers who are absolutely blowing it in the pro game. Whether its their fault or not, unacceptable really. Thomas is a freaking joke. Take care of your body, hire a trainer, actually work out in the offseason, and maybe he wouldn't be pulling up lame on the first day of camp every year. Maybe coaches and fans can't always tell right away if a guy is a "player", but teammates usually know quickly. Vets must be shaking their heads at this guy.

Posted by: saltine182 | May 2, 2009 12:50 PM | Report abuse

Were not doomed...he tweaked his hammy probably keeping him out as a precaution. Its early.

Posted by: crzyvgs | May 2, 2009 12:50 PM | Report abuse

Oh dear God, a tweaked hamstring in May! Cancel the season, our offense should punt on 1st down, release all 3 second round picks from last year! Blah, blah, blah, give me a break. Call me when the season starts.

Posted by: jaldrichl | May 2, 2009 12:53 PM | Report abuse

just feels like deja vu, that's all. how many times have we had high expectations only to have them crushed?

Posted by: Salinas1 | May 2, 2009 12:57 PM | Report abuse

This has gotta be the most negative blog entry ever for this entire website.

Geez La Canfora, talk about doom-and-gloom.

This is probably all made up anyway just to spite Vinny and Danny and the 'Skins.

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | May 2, 2009 12:58 PM | Report abuse

Oh lordy, Curzon, I hadn't even thought of that. What if it were an alarm clock issue? Would we thereafter always define and refer to Devin Thomas in terms of oversleeping, as we have his draft class comrade Sleepy Davis? Would Thomas overtake Davis as sleepiest player? Hmm...

A little ado about nothing, we can surely hope. It's May. We got playoff hockey to watch...

Wonderful use of subjective tense, Nate. Sadly a lost art in these and other parts where the President's English continues to devolve into written cave paitings and such as.

Go Caps!

If Rinehart is as atrocious as Jasno alludes to in his article, "marginal NFL player at best" and none of the 3 second rounders from last year step up Vinny should be fired after this season. There are plenty of reasons to do so but his constant ignoring of the OL hoping someone will pan out and busting on picks consistently should seal his fate. But I know his life partner will never fire him because then he won't be able to play fantasy football anymore if someone credible is hired.

So with DT sidelined and unable to go I'm sure he will be all over the playbook and his legendary film study seesions. Another one yr wonder who caught 80 bubble screens his junior yr @ Mich ST. and still can't run a precise route or know what's it like to be a professional and come into camp ready to go. It's a good thing we have such veteran leadership on this team to kick him in his arse. Ok maybe not, I forgot CP & Moss hate anything to do w/ practice.

Gotta love all you Jasno Hater-Redskins Apologists. That's the joke, LaConfora writes it how it is. He's pretty much always been spot on, but you cry babies and wine like sissy's if he paint's a less than flattering picture of the Redskins.

You know what? Redskins deserve all the knocks they get, the team is an abosolute joke on how its been managed now for almost a decade. It is what it is, get your heads out of your rectum and see the truth for what it is.

I would not take any actions based on Jasno's statements. Jasno is a journalist. Just because he says Rinehart is atrocious doesn't mean squat.

If Buges said he was atrocious, then I would be concerned.

Your constant whining supports idiots like Canfy who live to smear Redskin organization.

I'll take a Cowgirl fan over you guys anyday! At least we know our enemy. You morons are the "fifth column" for the rest of NFL teams.

Don't you realize that players read this columns too! you create the environment for the team to fail by posting junk here and booing in the stadium. please go support another team if the Redskins are so horrible

vinny and danny are joined at the hip, so don't expect a real gm any time soon.the only hope is that danny has to sell the team. talk about a franchise QB,(potentially right under their noses) how about some franchise linemen to go with that QB. Bring Vick in if you are not gonna commit to JC, because everyone else will be running for his life as well.I was saying that the beast was there for the taking before the draft, but that has drastically changed now.the eagles will stetch the field with their wideouts making westbrook even more dangerous.the giants have doubled their D line potential, and the cowgirls (smart scouts) will always put great talent on the field. the window is closing fast danny so grab some more O linemen to compete in camp.I do like the current OL signings they have done, however they still might not suffice.hey, sign derrick brooks for a little more than minimum for experience and mentoring. the guy can still play. HAIL SKINS!

The solution for JLC-lovers:

There is a more direct way to get your JLC post. Since you have your faces already deeply buried in JLC's behind, why don't you ask him to just pass on his thoughts while you are down there!

Posted by: peaceful2008 | May 2, 2009 1:48 PM | Report abuse

LaCanfora does not write it like he sees it. I understand this is a blog and he may inject a bit more "opinion", but he quotes NFL sources only when it's to support a negative observation. This team and organization has its problems just like any other team, but his reporting is rarely even. I think this team should be commended for its attention to the defensive side of the ball. They brought in some OL prospects that are young and raw, but if we would have signed "free agents" he would have wrote how we seek to develop young talent. Our offensive line alone was not the reason why this team did not make the playoffs.

Things are not all rosy at Skins park, but you can tell LaCanfora has disdain for this FO.

All of you on here with burgundy-colered glasses just don't get it. Thomas, Kelly, and Davis are busts, an should cost Cerrato and S.Campbell both their jobs. Throw in Tryon and good-for-nothing Rinehart, and you have a total crap draft class ( except for Horton and Moore-both of whome are the coaches selection, not the scouts ).

The marginal player quote on Rinehart was from coaches not Jasno. Jasno doesn't know any more about football than many people on here. He just reports on it as his profession which at times it makes him think he is more knowledgeable than an informed fan. But he isn't.

last years draft was an all time worst. They got lucky with Horton and the verdict is still out on sleepy davis. Kelly may never be healthy enough to contribute, Thomas is football iliterate, and the rest besides moore are possible taining camp cuts. Anybody seen our 6th rd punter frommm last yr. This years draft has 2 players that will contribute. Screw you Jason Taylor, gimmie back my 2nd rd pick you dancing fancy boy.

Dude, JLC's posts are often not facts. And sometimes when he claims that they are facts they are indeed the opposite. He sometimes does not do his research and reports erroneously. When he does post opinions, which he often does, they are almost always negative. Having said that, this is his blog and a blog calls for opinion. This is NOT an article published in the paper and he may post as he wishes. They always generate conversation and argument so his posts do their job ON THE BLOG. Lets not get confused.

Snyder is the defacto GM along with his best buddy vinny. I appreciate danny telling us how bad he wants to win but where is the evidence. He wants to win but on his terms. He needs a freaking GM. To this point thomas is a wasted pick and his pulled hammy is a sign of his lack of dedication to offseason training and last yr shows you what a learning curve he is gonna have to overcome to ever be productive.
