Thrash, Kelly Practice

From Jason Reid: Washington Redskins wide receivers James Thrash and Malcolm Kelly, who are recovering from ankle sprains, practiced again today at Redskins Park and expect to play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals at FedEx Field.
Thrash was much more active in team drills than he was Thursday and Kelly also responded well to an increased workload. Although Coach Jim Zorn would only say he was "hopeful" the wideouts would be available against the Cardinals, Thrash and Kelly expressed confidence about their progress.
"No doubts about it," Thrash said. "I feel good."
Kelly, who made his pro debut against the Saints, also will "be ready for Sunday," he said. "I knew it was sprained, but just the progression I made from day to day, I'm leaps and bounds ahead of where I was Monday."
Thrash, who has been a fast healer in his career, wore a protective boot earlier in the week after suffering a high-ankle sprain. He moved well while running routes today and did not appear to limp. "I'm going to get some more treatment right now," Thrash said. "It should be fine."
Kelly was especially upbeat after top wide receiver Santana Moss praised his performance in practice. "Even Santana said, 'Man, you've got your explosion back,' so that was good," Kelly said. "I'll have more than a day to rest now, so it'll be good."
Kelly and Thrash are listed as questionable on the injury report.

I shouted your screen name out here at work, 4skinz. Unfortunately, since downtown Houston has lost water pressure, everyone has left, and it did not have as big an impact as I had hoped

My appologies - best of luck getting things back to normal down there. Maybe try shouting it later at a croweded Red Cross aid station.

Just dropped by to say what's up to all the skins fans. We are really licking our chops looking at your corners! Warner will throw for 4 TD's, you guys better protect Fred (weak link) Smoot!

ESPN Insider/Scouts shows the matchup this way...

Skins advantages:
RB, OL, DB

Cardinal advantages:
QB, WR, DL, LB, Special Teams, Head Coach.

They're predicting 24-20 Cardinals.

Hard to disagree with their position vs position matchups. This might be a tougher game than most people expect.

The thing is that they do position by position matchup, but they should do position vs. position matchup. Like o-line vs. d-line. QB/WR vs. DBs. RBs vs. LBs. I feel like that would be a more accurate assessment of who wins what matchup.

An example of which is that I have no doubt their WRs are better as a whole than ours, but I feel like our DBs have a better shot at containing their WRs than their DBs have at containing ours. Hence, we win that matchup.

Choices always were a problem for you.
What you need is someone strong to guide you.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow,
what you need is someone strong to use you...
like me,
like me.

If you want to get your soul to heaven,
trust in me.
Don't judge or question.
You are broken now,
but faith can heal you.
Just do everything I tell you to do.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow.
Let me lay my holy hand upon you.

My God's will
becomes me.
When he speaks out,
he speaks through me.
He has needs
like I do.
We both want
to rape you.

Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my life.
Open my eyes and blind me with your light
and your lies.

These individual position comparisons are BS, the Cowgirls on paper are better then most teams at every position but they can not win a playoff game.

It is how you play collectively that matters, and are D-Line is better then the Cards.

Posted by: Flounder | September 19, 2008 1:48 PM | Report abuse

You guys won't be able to pass on us with your smurf WR's. Our D-line will stuff Portis. O-line is much improved this year, skins aging washed up DE's should be no prob. Cards 35-17.

I like it. The evaluations change each week... Nobody loved Kurt Warner 2 weeks ago... he can go right back to sucking just that quickly. We'll see. I do think they're a better team than people think, and in some ways we were lucky to win last year.

Posted by: government bailout | September 19, 2008 1:52 PM | Report abuse

James Thrash got hurt last year (was that also an ankle?) in the one game he had significant PT and he got hurt this year even without much PT.

Kelly has caught one pass. Now I really liked what I saw on that play. I recall thinking that he looked like kind of WR this team needs. Sample size of 1, however.

I would like to see what happens when Kelly is healthy with 5-6 passes going his way.

Good grief... enough with the Cowboys haven't won a game so therefore they're terrible argument. It doesn't make sense -- they're a much better team this year than are the Skins. Sorry but that should be just obvious.

The BEST grade anyone could give Vinnie in an incomplete.

Posted by: Skinz | September 19, 2008 1:18 PM

Agreed. Its also the worst grade he could get. This is the first draft that is undisputably "on him" (only this morning on the radio, he "credited" Spurrier with the choices of Danny Wuerfful and Taylor Jacobs).

A writer at NFL.com gives an "A+" to whoever was responsible for the drafting by the Packers in the 2006 draft. I think the beginning of a draft class' third year is about the time to start assigning grades. Until the start of the 2010 season, I'm AOK with giving Vinny an "incomplete".

Just obvious they were a better team last year too, huh? I seem to remember attending a game in December and coming away with a MUCH different feeling. And don't give me any BS that the Cowboys weren't trying to win, they had ALL of their starters in well into the 2nd half and it was over by halftime.

Since when was this league about winning in September, October, and November? Wake me when Dallas wins in December and January.

Posted by: Gfunk | September 19, 2008 5:02 PM | Report abuse

These Cardinals fans (what?) are crackin' me up. Y'all beat maybe two of the worst three teams in the league and suddenly you think you can play with the big boys? Uh uh. The Cards' passing attack is no better than the Saints' -- how'd that work out last week? Saints couldn't run on the Skins either, and their rushing attack is worlds better than the Cards'. Unless the Skins offense takes a big step back it shouldn't even be close.
