Wednesday OTA Wrap-Up

WR Santana Moss was the only addition to the list of players not taking part in today's OTA session. He was throwing up this morning and sent home and is to report back to the training staff later. Unlike his previous absence a week ago - the day after a weekend of hard partying to celebrate his birthday - this is by accounts a real sickness. "I don't think it was the partying type," Zorn said. It could be heat related and Moss may be back out there for the final session Thursday.

TE Tyler Ecker, a 2007 draft pick who injured his groin on the opening weekend of training camp last year and has been hurt essentially since then, had surgery on his groin today, Zorn said. Ecker had more repairs on his left groin, and Zorn said it will be at least 8 weeks before he Ecker can "get back out there going full speed." With Fred Davis being taken in the second round and reserve tight end Todd Yoder back with the Redskins, Ecker's chances of making the team don't look too good right now.

Shawn Springs, Clinton Portis and Cornelius Griffin were not present today - Portis and Griffin are excused.

Zorn said there are no other surgeries or medical procedures scheduled on any Redskins between now and the start of training camp.

Overall, Zorn gave the nod to the defense during the team portion of today's practice. "The defense did a wonderful job of shutting us down in the red zone," Zorn said.

The pranks between center Casey Rabach and kicker Shaun Suisham continue. Rabach has parked in Suisham's parking spot with a pizza box in the window. Scribbled on that box are the words: "Kicker's Only, as well as the words, "Check Your Tire." Rabach's tire was indeed a little flat, but Suisham isn't backing down. "I've got the D Line behind me," Suisham said. "I'm alright."

JERRY JONES WANTS TO IMPRESS JOHN MADDEN
Posted by Josh Alper on June 11, 2008, 9:18 a.m.

Jerry Jones is very proud of the new stadium he built for the Dallas Cowboys and isn't afraid to let people know that.

Jones recently spoke to the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics about the reason why it cost more than $1 billion to erect the new stadium. Sports Business Journal, via SportsbyBrooks, reports that Jones said he could have built the stadium for $700 million but "the reason I'm spending [$1.1B] on that stadium in Arlington is because of perception." No, not the perception that he's an egomaniac building a monument to himself but the perception of John Madden and Al Michaels.

That extra money will go toward affecting the way the two announcers convey how amazing the stadium is to all the people who will never set foot inside it. Jones is concerned about "how John Madden talks about it, and how Al Michaels talks about it, and let me assure you that after I've had some time with them, they'll know everything there is to know about it."

BEARS DEFENSE WASN'T FOND OF CEDRIC BENSON
Posted by Josh Alper on June 11, 2008, 10:40 a.m.

Cedric Benson may be convinced that the police in Texas have him in their crosshairs but his problems with uniformed groups didn't end when he crossed the state line.

According to Jay Glazer, Benson was not well-liked by his teammates on the Bears either. He went on Dan Patrick's radio program yesterday, via MJD at Yahoo! Sports, and recounted a tale from the 2006 training camp. Thomas Jones and Lovie Smith were feuding and some Bears vets felt that Benson was getting handed the starting job prematurely, an idea they couldn't get behind. "Hell, one year they tried to hurt him to make sure that Thomas Jones was going to be the starter. That's how bad it was with that team," Glazer told Patrick.

When Patrick asked if he got the information from a Bears player, Glazer responded "No, it wasn't a Bears defensive player. It was about ten of them."
That's enough to drive a man to drink his sorrows away.

GIANTS' SUPER BOWL RINGS RIPPED OFF
Posted by Michael David Smith on June 11, 2008, 11:01 a.m.
Some time last weekend, thieves broke into an E.A. Dion jewelry store in Attleboro, Massachusetts, disabled the alarm, cut a hole in the roof and got out with a safe that weighs at least 1,000 pounds.

Among the items in the safe were gold, gems -- and some of the New York Giants' Super Bowl rings. Police say the total value of the items stolen was about $2 million. A store employee discovered the crime Sunday when cut phone lines prevented her from checking her e-mail.

The owner of the jewelry company, Edward Dion Jr., said of the burglary, "we've run into a bit of a hiccup."

Police are investigating, but they have provided no information about suspects, other than to say, "whoever did this knew what they were doing."

It's not clear how many rings were taken; most of the players received their rings at a ceremony last month. The store is about 10 miles from Gillette Stadium, where the New England Patriots play.

BROWNS RELEASE BENTLEY
Posted by Michael David Smith on June 11, 2008, 2:14 p.m. EDT

LeCharles Bentley's two-year tenure with the Cleveland Browns has come to an end, without Bentley ever playing a down for the team.

Bentley's agent Jonathan Feinsod, said he asked for and received his release today.

"LeCharles came back to Cleveland to be in integral part of the Cleveland Browns, his hometown team," Feinsod said, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer. "Through no fault of the Browns at all, they didn't know if LeCharles was going to come back or not and they moved on with their plans. But this is not the same team LeCharles signed with. They have commitments to other players. LeCharles is not ready to be an insurance policy at this point."

The 28-year-old Bentley passed a physical yesterday and expects to play in 2008. It just won't be with the Browns.

A native of Cleveland, Bentley signed a free-agent contract with the Browns in 2006, only to suffer a serious knee injury that kept him out for the entire season. After developing a staph infection in the knee, he also missed all of 2007.

...Any chance he signs here? He is 28, and hasn't played in 2 years which would make him a youngster on our O-Line. He was a pro-bowl caliber player before he was hurt. I hope Morocco takes a long hard look into bringing him in.

The date is June 11, 2008. The Washington Redskins have no offense.

During OTAs, the defense repeatedly shuts down the offense in redzone drills. We have confused wide receivers, confused quarterbacks, confused running backs, confused tight ends.

The heat has only added to the pain of installing, and learning the new system. We knew this wasn't going to be pretty, but do we have any idea how ugly it's really going to be?

Five weeks to think about it...

Reposted from last blogend....Jreid video.......

I have to admit, it seems like a lot of fluff on this blog. I'm ok with fluff, sometimes get a chuckle or two, sometimes I even learn something and it amazes me how creative bloggers can be. Now, can someone tell me the percentage of posts (to all posts) for some of the following:
Redskin related data
Redskin related information
Redskin related to blog heading

My predictions:
15%
2%
5%

If I'm in the ballpark, then why do so many bloggers complain about this site and its content? It is what it is.

Pdiddy, I don't know how you city people can continue tipping $ or $$ for every little thing. I pity the society that has emerged and can only hope SuperPDiddy can come along and change it back. The locker thing at 6F is mind boggling. Whats the entrance fee @$40, you ride twenty rides and bam now you've spent $60 not to mention the four $4 dollar waters and two $12 meals you bought. Oh yeah, the $5 ice cream added, too. Life is expensive. Challenge to you bloggers/shabingers - on a serious note (not that any of you have a serious note), what does one do for fun for free?

Smithsonian(s) {spelling} work for me.
July 4th celebration. (spend bucks on food, but hey I was going to eat anyways)

I'm pretty sure J-Reid has no idea the differences or similarities of the defense to explain. Does anyone think this defense will be in top 10 by season's end? I worry about lb/cb depth, as well as, pass rush effectiveness. I hope our offense is 10x better than last year. Good luck coach Zorn.

BTW, I have a hunch Zorn is going to be a good coach. I can only hope Snyderretto gives him the chance to prove it in D.C. It will take more than one year. The Snyderretto influence will not settle for anything less than immediate success, especially if Cowher says he's ready to come back. (which I think would be a bad move, Cowher isn't that impressive) I hope I'm right on Zorn, the Redskins deserve some good times and a franchise Qb in JC. We're due.....

On another related topic...
What happens to the Skins, if Snyderretto keeps Marty instead of hiring Spurrier?

Sorry anon.

I posted that comment knowing nothing about Bentley (zero). There was a risk that the smartsness comment would be read as coded racism. The comment was based on a Rabach article that described the importance of the Center and the strategy involved. The dude is an ivy leaguer.

After posting, I did a google on Bently. I like that he's young and recovering. I think he'd be a good pick up, if the price is right.

I was really wondering if we can find someone who is really better than Rabach. So how important is the mental vs physical side of the game at Center?

I agree we need a back up, but is he really better than Rabach...I don't know, I'm asking.

I think bringing him in to play guard and making Kendall the insurance policy is the way to go. Profootballtalk.com ran an article earlier stating the browns were planning on moving Bentley to guard. If Rabach were to go down, Bentley could slide over and Kendall could fill in at guard. I think it would be worth Morocco's time to make a call and check him out.

Interesting news for the Fins.

Parcells has persuaded Dick Haley to come out of retirement to mentor our GM Jeff Ireland. Haley helped Parcells build the Jets team in the late 90s, but is better known for drafting a lot of the Stelers' "Steel Curtain" team in the 70s.

We now return you to your normal Skins-related blogging....

I'd be ok with bringing in Bentley for a look see. I think he's kidding himself in putting it out there that he doesn't want to be a backup.

How about being healthy for a jumping off point?

I dont think Bentley will fit, he is 28 and if he sits for a year he will be almost 30 when he starts again. rabach is 30 so he has probably a good 3-4 years left. I say sign bentley only if he is going to move to left guard and replace kendall next year and let the rookie reignhart move to rigt guard and sit for another year behind randy thomas.

Got to take a serious look at Bentley.

As far as his smarts, I have no idea, but if he played well enough to be SI's rookie of the year at the Center position I can't imagine he doesn't have the requisite skills.

Let's get real; there isn't a position on the football field (QB included) for which an Ivy League degree is needed. Often, the center makes the pass protection calls only if it needs to be changed from what the QB called in the play and there are only so many in the playbook from which to choose. (I admit I am not sure how the Skins do this)

Question: is Bentley healthy and just what kind of stick he has up his behind? Given that he has not played in 2 years, how can he think that he had dibbs on being a starter without demonstrating that? Seems like he thought that no matter how he performed he would end up being the backup, essentially as the article says, the Browns have made other plans.

As far as I am concerned, I don't like the idea of Jansen being the backup center if he is the starting RT, which is not a foregone conclusion by the way. That theoretically takes the best RT and moves him to the center spot in the middle of a game no less, which he has never played in the NFL and puts an inferior player in at right tackle, a more important position on the offensive line. I seem to recall trying Wade at LG last summer and that was a disaster, and we all know how Kendal feels about playing center. If he enjoyed playing center, or could for that matter, he might still be with Jets.

I think Buges can walk on water, but can we please find a backup center that has playing experience.

As far as Bentley possibly moving to LG, I say think about it. Kendal was a good/lucky move we made last year, but he really doesn't move the defenders off the line very much. I am not sure how Bentley moves in space as far as the run game goes, but he is probably, when healthy, a better pass blocker than Kendall.

A bunch of teams will probably give Bentley a call, but a little extra Snyder juice might get it done. I am not sure if has to clear waivers though.

The song is great... if you're a Gweneth.

They do have their merit as a talented group of musicians, and sure, that new song is catchy and such as, but Coldplay does seem all played out all ready.

The i tunes commercial and the cozy deal with Apple doesn't lend them any more street cred either.

NWA they ain't, that's for sure...

Reading over my last post and I'm thinking I'm too harsh on Chris Martin and his boys.

That's a fine song there, Diddy. That's a good band there too. Can't hate on a brother for selling over 30 million albums.

For some reason Chris Martin bugs me, and it may have to do with Gweneth Paltrow, but I'm not too sure anymore.

In December of 2006, Paltrow was reported on the Internet to have told Notícias Sábado, the weekend magazine supplement of Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias, that she thought British people were more civilized and intelligent than Americans. Paltrow denied making the statements attributed to her and told People magazine that she never gave an interview to a Portuguese publication, but did a press conference in Spain where she tried to say in Spanish that Europe was an "older culture" and Americans "live to work". Diário de Notícias later clarified in their December 6, 2006 edition that they had not obtained the quotes from an original interview or foreign press conference, but rather from previous English-language articles which are still referenced online.

I was almost the same way with the Eagles, especially because of their fans. However, I gained a ton of respect for the organization with the way they handled the TO nightmare. While I still hate 'em, Dallas has firmly repositioned itself at the top of my list with the recent additions of TO, Tank, and PacMan. And to see any team have any success with Wade Phillips at the helm is almost nauseating.

Posted by: Sir Anonymous the Great | June 12, 2008 9:34 AM | Report abuse

that sounds more like fan bases you hate. Any self-respecting Redskin fan (which you, admittedly, aren't. Self-respecting, that is...) hates the Cowboys first and foremost.

The eagles are usually second. Then the Gints. From there variation really kicks in.

Posted by: Dik | June 12, 2008 9:34 AM | Report abuse

The Truth says you must hate the Cowgirls the most, then its a tossup between the Giants and Eagles, on an individual basis. Personally, it would be The Eagles, but neither team is even close to my hatred for the Cowgirls. Tony Romo, TO, Micheal Irvin, etc., etc.

Posted by: The Truth | June 12, 2008 9:38 AM | Report abuse

For teams, definitely hate the Cowboys the most. Fanbase-wise I would say that in general, the eagles fans are the worst, most obnoxious, and are the biggest fair-weather fanbase I have ever seen. Having said that (the "in general" part), nothing and I mean absolutely nothing is worse than an ignorant cowboy fan. You can usually have a good debate with Giants and Eagles fans, but most of the cowboys fans you run into (at least on the interweb) are complete morons who are just impossible to communicate with. Anyone remember kool-aide boy from last season? Talk about an idiot....wow.

sounds like to me that people hate the cowboys because they're loved, respected, and discussed more natioanlly than the redskins, they dominated the series for about 10 years from the mid 90's until recently, and most of all because of their idiot fanbase which is understood.

so becausae i don't hate the cowboys first and foremost, i'm not a true redskins fan or a self respecting one? i say F that(talking to Dik). you are most certainly entitled to think that, but don't EVER question my loyalness to the team just because i don't share the same sediments as you regarding dallas.

did the cowboys injure so many of our players in one game, they reffered to it as "The Body Bag Game"? No. Do Cowboy fans shout racial based comments at their QB, when he has put his body on the line time and time again? No.

Remember I never said I liked the cowboys, at all! but regardless who the man plays for, when you cheer when someone is laying motionless on the ground, and has to be carted off... and the fans are cheering, i'm sorry, but it says alot about the fans, and especially how no one from the eagles organization condemed the behavior, didn't sit well with me at all!

Hey, some of my best friends are cowboys fans (seriously, sounds cliche though eh?)......aside from it being a flaw in their personality, most of them have football sense and are actually somewhat respectful of the skins. They also hate eagles fans the most. Living in the Philly area, I get to see it all first hand....there is no middle ground with these folks. One week they chant super bowl, and Mcnabb for MVP, then 7 days later, they suck, fire reid, trade mcnabb, etc etc.....they all actually take pride in the fact that they are widely known as aholes and needed a jail in the vet. A friend of mine (seahawks fan) had stadium security approach him in the 3rd qtr of a MNF game where the hawks whupped up on the eagles 42 to zip.....security advised him that he should probably leave, even though he was with a bunch of eagles fans. They didn't say he HAD to leave, but they strongly advised it for personal safety reasons. It's stuff like this that many of the fans are proud of. None of my friends will take their kids under the age of 16 to an eagles game. The thing that jags me the most is that they all really think that they are the "greatest, most passionate fans in the world". And the media around here just feeds it even more.....it's quite pathetic really.

If you have to ask...

Posted by: Chia Pet | June 12, 2008 10:28 AM

hey, dude. if your tyrying to draw someone into a internet argument, take it elsewhere. you're not amusing at all, and your attempts to be both amusing and bating is just flat out lame, chia pet.

whatever...

it looks like nothing was being discussed at the time, just trying to get some convo started, and looking at the comments on this thread the last couple of hours or so the best insight you (chia) can offer is when you're offering it to yourself.

here ya go skins hater/lover:

anon = typically the shorthand up here for anonymous. Since you post with no name/handle/nickname/ID you don't differentiate yourself from other "anons".

I refered to you as such, b/c I had no other option....

Posted by: chris larry | June 12, 2008 10:55 AM | Report abuse

Haha TE and Dorf, you would think so. Unfortunately middle schoolers are the worst bandwagoners, and when you factor in that I attended middle school from the fall of '92 till the spring of '95, perhaps a middle school packed full of kids wearing Aikman and E. Smith jerseys as well as various commemorative Super Bowl t-shirts make sense.

I had one teacher brave enough to "out" herself as a Redskins fan, and since she was a first year teacher, pretty and petite, she didn't get much respect from the packs of Dallas hooligans.

Those were dark days...

ok, chris larry, fair enough. cool, i get it. must be some sort of insider joke of the redskins variety.

so unlike most blogs or message boards, is it required that i associate a name with my comments? 'cuse me, but if i'm going to to met by brainless and "look at me I made a funny" comments by the likes of a chia pet, i'd rather remain "anon".

with apologies,

Philly fans booed Santa. Battery tossing is just a random event.

The worst about Eagle fans is doing their stupid chant out at bars in the middle of May. Or at Phillies games or anywhere for that matter. There isn't a game going on jerkoffs nor is it even in season.

No its not required Anon #4023 skins hater/lover....maybe polite or convenient if you want to do the back and forth thing, just a thought.....

people like jokes up here, some teasing, maybe even a healthy scrap now and again....own it dude don't shy away, its not like Chia Pet insulted your mama.....

true indeed, chia pet didn't insult my mama, and maybe i just don't share the same sense of humor as most of you here, hell maybe a lack one completely, but that dude isn't funny, and when you try too hard you make it worse. (see: richards, michael) to me comments like that scream:

"hey everyone, i'm (insert handle)! I can be fuuny! looksy, look at me! why isn't anyone looking at me? am i not funny?"

like i said fuuny to you, but just plain jane lame to me. YOU didn't feel a need to crack jokes. antagonize, yes. but at least you're bringing logic, THAT i can respect to the fullest.

i'll pick a name, if that would suite the masses, ok?

Stoic fan--

Dictionary says:

sto·ic
adj.
1. One who is seemingly indifferent to or unaffected by joy, grief, pleasure, or pain.

You're up here whining about Chia Pet and you consider yourself a stoic? Try again.

talent evaluator,

first off i'm fully aware what the definition of stoic is, got it? second, i wasn't whining about anyone. the dude isn't funny to me at all. i was trying to get a conversation started, and he goes about craking jokes, or lack thereof, okay?

again, if you're want to get into a pissing contest with someone, i'm not the one. i personally don't see the need to argue with anyone up here, and like chia, you're trying to draw me into one.

YOU can try again and take it elsewhere.

BTW, 12:01 wasn't me. homo jokes aren't funny, they're just foretelling if anything.

Posted by: sto | June 12, 2008 12:12 PM | Report abuse

if one has no fear of homosexuals, is it accurate to label him as as homophobic?

Posted by: Stoic Fan | June 12, 2008 12:14 PM | Report abuse

dink is a racial slur. used in war time in the far east so watch out for the PC police.

Posted by: Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:15 PM | Report abuse

and lastly talent evaluator, if you read the name from beginning to end (two words) it says 'stoic fan', as in when i'm watching the game. it doesn't personify my personality.

but by all means bait, preconceive, and assume.

Posted by: sto | June 12, 2008 12:17 PM | Report abuse

since the conversation is kind of dry right now, i was curious to know what has been discussed here in the past (just trying to get a feel for the blog) and i seen that anonymous aren't thought of too highly here, and there is a problem with people ripping off names, handles, or whatever...

it looks like whoever is signing their post with my name is their poor attempt to chase me away.

as someone told me a few minutes ago "try again".
