BTW, just want to check with CL. Is it raining stockbroakers in NYC right now?

I have a weird feeling about the Browns myself!

who voted for the rams by 15

I'm with JM on this one. Kelly will contribute before the year is through.

Nate,

Just curious what calls seemed bad to you that favored the skins? I can think of a semi-questionable call on the Pass Interference on Thrash but as said above, that was clearly a black in the back and ARE didn't appear to be touched on that play. That is a 14 point swing right there.

I am out in Queens and Brooklyn, no stockbrokers to be seen. But my wife and I look forward to buying their used stuff on Craigs list at pennies on the dollar any day now......

Posted by: chrislarry | October 6, 2008 2:33 PM | Report abuse

refs blew the ARE call...basically a TD off the board(he wasn't touched)...refs blew the block in the back call...it doesn't matter if that block wouldn't have affected the play, rember the heyer penalty that nullified the TD in week 2????

so that's 14 points that the refs took away from the skins...officiating has been horrible this season. really really bad...

Posted by: dealer1 | October 6, 2008 2:36 PM | Report abuse

What is the spread against the rams 13.5 last I heard? I don't see us covering that. The thing that worries me most is that the rams had a bye last week, I know they now have a new coach and are probably still in transition but an extra week is huge.

Posted by: theFreshinAU | October 6, 2008 2:37 PM | Report abuse

Just because someone got past a player doesn't mean they should be allowed to be illegally and dangerously blocked in the back. That is like saying well the defensive lineman wasn't near the play so you can chop block him. Who knows if any of the players involved woudl have recoverd and caught Jackson. More than likely not, but you can't bend rules that are there for players safty.

The officiating has been abysmal in all games, against all teams.....a complete joke...I am outraged by it, not as a skins fan, but as an NFL Football fan....

Posted by: chrislarry | October 6, 2008 2:39 PM | Report abuse

I agree with CL, maybe we should get that handgun woman from PA to stand on the sidelines of NFL games to help the refs.

Stockbrokers got nothing. You want the investment bankers. They all live in Connecticut. Wait another two or three weeks and you can buy the whole state for the cost of Redskins season tickets.

I can't remember, Gweez, but I was drinking a lil' bit, too, dude... why you gotta ask hard questions... the point is we SURVIVED, we survived the bad calls and the evil egg-tossing crowd and the DeSean Jackson run to glory and that machine-like opening drive and everything Philadelic... won the damn game, all that other stuff is moot...

Posted by: NateinthePDX | October 6, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

All that other stuff is Smoot.

I can't believe that the rams have handed the team to Jim Haslett. This guy took a Saints team with potential and ran them into the ground with consistent poor in game decisions, first and foremost sticking with Aaron fumble-aya Brooks for as long as he did. Having had many saints on past fantasy teams, I have actually paid attention to many saints games when he was their coach. The man couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag with a machete. Yeah, that rams defense this year has been mighty good....better promote the Dc to head coach. Here's my predicition for Sunday. Skins in a blowout. If by some chance the Rams give them a good game, Haslett will find a way to blow it. He'll try some stupid fake FG, or go for it on 4th when he should punt, or stick with Bulger for the whole game, or whatever. This one's in the bag. Hail victory!

Seriously, how worthless is your life, if you PLAN on, and participate in egging another teams bus?? That is the pinnacle of having nothing going on in your life?

How do you explain that to someone, I mean, what does that conversation go down like:

Co-worker - How was your weekend?

Eagles Fan - SWEET, I egged the Redskins team bus, oh man that was awesome!!

Co-worker - Seriously? No, Seriously?

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 6, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse

Haslett blew the Saints for sure but is better than the x-hc

Posted by: alex35332 | October 6, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse

Yeah that's why I asked Nate. I had a few myself and was thinking I missed some.

Posted by: Gweez | October 6, 2008 2:52 PM | Report abuse

Was it possible to challenge the ARE call? The whistle was blown well after he got up and starting running. But ARE stopped.. shouldn't you at least cross the goal line and force them to review?

Seems like some calls are clear violations of the rules, yet somehow judgement gets in the way. How many pass interference calls are waived off when the pass is deemed not "catchable"?

Too much interprelation I say.....

Hey guys, the "2 Live Stews" clowns on ESPN First Take just said the Redskins are the "least talented" team in the division and will finish 4th. One of the guys said they "can't beat the Giants or Cowboys" and said the Eagles are more talented and have a better infrastructure as a team. They say there are always teams that start hot and fall apart - they think that will be the 'Skins.

I am confused and wonder how these guys are in the sports business. Obviously these guys have just been looking at scores and not watching the games. This isn't like Gibbs 2.0 where we eeked out a win by 2 points and were relieved we won.

Posted by: jwlemons | October 6, 2008 2:58 PM | Report abuse

Ah - if the whistle blows, then no review can be done...

I love Joe Gibbs, he's a deserved hero in this town, but his mentality held the team back. He talked about having great playmakers but didn't give them the opportunity to make plays. It seemed like after every game last year there was a question about some decision not to go for it or to run a very conservative play that cost us a win. Gibbs would always start his answer with, "You think of all the things that can go wrong...". Zorn is clearly of a different mindset and that's the biggest difference.

How quickly we seem to forget that everything DID go wrong last year, in particular the decimated O-line, Campbell dislocated his knee, ST was killed AFTER he got hurt and missed a game ... it goes on.

Don't annoint JZ yet.

This Redskins team -- and I luv 'em -- ain't dancing with the one who brung 'em.

Posted by: Xlnt | October 6, 2008 3:08 PM | Report abuse

Ah - I see - but the rule is, if the whistle has stopped the play and the point of contention is, directly related to the play being stopped(i.e., in the case of a receiver not being downed by contact, or a fumble being blown dead because the ref thought that it was an incomplete pass) then it is not reviewable.

Posted by: JohnDinHouston | October 6, 2008 3:13 PM | Report abuse

They were wrong about Jason Campbell.

Here is the link, please post your disagreements.

Skins are only improving ever week, if they keep level headed (which everyone says), and stay healthy, the skins will be a scary team.

Officiating has been awful this season. The refs blew the play dead when Randle El had a clear path to the end zone when replay showed he wasn't touched. And here I thought that the refs were taught not to blow a play dead unless they were 100 percent certain. If the Skins hadn't continued to run out the clock it may have cost them the game. Obviously it's becoming a disturbing trend seeing the refs pick up flags against the opponents time and time again. Somebody mentioned the 14 points swing in the Eagles game. Let's not forget the Casey Rabach phantom holding call on the Portis touchdown two weeks ago at Dallas. The fact that the Skins have beaten two divsional rivals on the road while overcoming 21 points combined the refs have cost them in these two games speaks volumes of how well this Skins team is playing and how they're able to overcome bad calls and bad luck and still emerge victorious. The Rams will need a lot help from the officials Sunday if they're to pull off the upset.
