All 22 starters sitting Thursday night
Updated 10:25 pm.:
Though neither Trent Williams nor Jammal Brown was listed on the "not expected to play" list before the game, neither was in pads for the start and neither was expected to see any action.
Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan wasn't taking any chances in the team's preseason finale. Twenty-nine players were listed as "not expected to play" Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals, including all the defensive starters and nine of the offensive starters.
The lone offensive players expected to see playing time were offensive tackles Trent Williams and Jammal Brown.
A handful of reserves were also given the night off, which could be a positive sign for a couple of them. Receiver Anthony Armstrong, running back Larry Johnson and quarterback Rex Grossman were all expected to sit out the Cardinals' game. If coaches felt Armstrong and Johnson were fighting for jobs, conventional thinking suggests they would have been in pads and trying to earn their keep.
Shanahan also rested a handful of veteran reserves -- cornerback Phillip Buchanon, defensive end Phillip Daniels, defensive end Vonnie Holliday and tight end Fred Davis. Rookie linebacker Perry Riley missed the game because of an injured knee.

I don't want to encourage any more AH news than what is necessary, but is he considered a starter or a reserve at this point? I woulda thought Reid would be all over this.

That was a sweet return by Banks. He showed some great patience for a rook.
Posted by: freakzilla | September 2, 2010 10:17 PM | Report abuse
Banks is gonna be such a tough decision. I have a feeling he'll end up making the team though...they can help him with ball security, and his elusiveness certainly does make him dangerous.

Good return by Banks. Special teams consists of mostly scrubs anyways, so that's a good return.
Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | September 2, 2010 10:22 PM | Report abuse
Dik, if someone has the last name of "Speed", are they just screwed then? I'd be kinda pissed, 'cause I'd probably wanna be coached, but I just couldn't be.
Also, Parker doesn't look 100% awful and seems to be playing with some quickness tonight. Funny that the Redskins scrubs are driving on the Cards starters. Suuuuckers...

Gano. Twice. 2nd time from 50, both right down the pike.
I ended up with him as a fantasy kicker when the neophytes started taking kickers in the 10th.

Skins backups/cuts vs. Cards 1st team.
3-3.
Posted by: Diesel44 | September 2, 2010 10:29 PM | Report abuse
Yeah Adam, I think this might have to be Sams last year. He doesn't seem to know the roster very well and makes "interesting" cut/keep/start suggestions. I mean, he's still awesome in his own special way, but yeah...

I hope Devin plays well tonight. He's got one catch already.

Posted by: greendonkey | September 2, 2010 10:34 PM | Report abuse
aaronharman, they're biased towards the Cards because they're the Cardinals' announcers. Cardinals are the home team, so it's their crew that gets piped in for the national broadcast.

Hey Dik... life is good... sun still shining... still 82 degrees : )
The locals are all atwitter over USC vs the 'Bow Warriors. Bleh... Be nice to get a look at the Barkley kid.
Monte Coleman!!
Banks gotta make the catch on punts if he wants to make the team. Criminey.

Banks was running backward the whole time trying to find the ball. Someone should be telling the guy how to count yards and know where to be standing for his catch.
Posted by: greendonkey | September 2, 2010 10:38 PM | Report abuse
Haven't seen Armstrong yet. Wonder if that means he's already made the team or I'm just blind?

Does anyone else think that Beck bears a slight resemblance to Steve Spurrier? Also, the photo they always show of josh bidwell on these CSN broadcasts makes him look like an adult version of Stewie from family guy

@MyPost:
Thanks for the link - I've caught games on Channelsurfing before, but this time was told I had to download the latest Veetle program, and that sh*t just scares me too much, esp. for a preseason game.
Got to see a few plays @ ur link. Unfortunately, it just got yanked. Damn.
Cork, wanna host a fellow SF Skins fan this season? I'll bring the beers and... well... idk, kickoff's @ 4:20, right? ;-)

Henson showing some of that athletic ability I was talking about earlier tonight when I was saying I loved Andre Carter as a DE, but I don't think he has the mobility to be a good LB in a 3-4

Henson is money tonight! Sack and a tackle for loss. Plus takes time to write for hogshaven. It's the most meaningless game of the year, but he gets my mvp.

MyPost, go to atdhe.net, choose the 2nd stream of the game (first one is offline).
You'll need to download an app called Veetle, only takes a minute, then install it. Don't have to restart your browser. Once it's installed, click the button (you'll see the one I mean). You're golden.
