Trent Williams has a new uniform number

Rookie left tackle Trent Williams took the practice field Thursday wearing a new uniform number - No. 71. "It was my old number," Williams said. "I originally wanted that number."

When Williams joined the Redskins, No. 71 was already taken by fellow lineman Mike Williams. But just because Trent Williams was the Redskins' first-round draft pick, he didn't have the ability to simply swipe someone else's number. He immediately began discussions with Mike Williams, trying to figure out what it'd take for Big Mike to relinquish No. 71.

"We was in negotiations," Trent Williams said. "Then it worked out that he's not with us this year, so I ended up getting it."

Mike Williams will miss this season due to blood clots, which meant No. 71 was back on the market.

Trent Williams said when he first started playing football as a young boy, he actually wore No. 70 because it was the same number that his brother wore. "I just wanted to make a name for myself and I got 71," he said. "It kind of stuck with me."

i mean someone flying in from CA would have ~ 3000 miles each way, but only 6-8 hours travel time (figuring showing up early at the airport, check-in etc...)

Posted by: walter-in-fallschurch | September 9, 2010 11:07 AM |
-------------

6-8 hours my ass. Try 9-10 depending on those moron TSA guys, understand check-in counters and 1-2 hours layover plus rental car check-in, hotel check-in, etc., etc. Hell, that might even be a little low.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | September 9, 2010 11:20 AM
-----------------

i figured a 5 hour flight and 1-3 hours of other stuff. i would not include checking in to the hotel - unless you counted that in your travel time when driving... i suppose you need to include rental car time and then time to drive to the hotel.... no doubt a layover would totally screw things up... it would be pretty easy to imagine travel being an all-day affair.

the thing about flying is you're stuck with their departure/arrival times too: you may have to show up 6 hours early or leave 6 or 12 hours after you want to.

Ummm after taking the homer glasses off I think this is more like it:

'Skins v. Pokes - Breakdown

O-Line - Advantage 'Skins

D-Line - Advantage 'Pokes (Ratliff is probably the best in the game right now; we have zero DTs that compare on the field (not on paper; Haney has mailed it in imo))

QB - Slight Advantage, Pokes

Starting RB - Advantage 'Pokes (come on really? not that close)

WR's - Advantage Pokes

TE - Push

Secondary - Push

Linebackers - Advantage Pokes (Not that close; they are buiilt for the 3-4, we aren't)

Kicking - have not clue but I like Gano and bidwell. I'll say Advantage skins

Coaching - Advantage 'Skins

10pb, don't you have some cow nipples to go suck on? You crack baby... A suggestion for you:

1) Go to nearest Party City

2) Purchase helium tank

3) Take helium tank home to trailer park. Go inside and sit helium tank and yourself beside your pile of dirty hay that serves as your bed, love seat, chaise lounge, and toilet.

4) Get a mask; hook up to helium tank

5) Attach mask to your down syndrome looking face and breathe slowly

Now when you purchase ANY Washington Redskins player jersey, you may (for an additional fee) purchase insurance which will entitle you to a partial prorated discount on the purchase of a replacement jersey for that player with their new number.

A 10% (of the purchase price) insurance purchase will garner a 20% discount, a 20% insurance would garner a 30% discount, and so on.

What a non-story about K. Shanahan. Of course he's keeping his game plan secret. It's what coaches do. Even this mostly meaningless post about T.W. changing his number is a huge scoop when compared to that.

The post about the Cowpukes O-line injuries is the much bigger story, and they give it about two seconds before they move on to something new.

I'm looking for a big day from our D. With their O-line injury situation, I can't see how they can do well in their protection of Romo. They may struggle mightily in their running game too. I think we're going to see a team that looks a lot like ours did last year. Except they will be wearing blue and silver.

Go Skins! Kick 'em while they're down!

They a lot of rabid AH haters on this blog (like that tick RedDMV), wiping the foam from their mouths as they post indignant rant after indignant rant about each and every loathsome, dispicable aspect of his character and behavior. But his nemesis, MS, ain't no choirboy hisself. Take the $21 M check incident which MS has cited over and over in the media. According to him, AH were offered the choice of taking the check and "being part of the team" or refuzzing the check and becoming in essence a FA. AH took the check and the implication, for anyone that is hard of thinking, is that the dude is an ingrate for acting out the way he has. But it were a false choice that MS prooffered. He did not have the power to dicktate anything at all about the $21 M. The terms of the $21 M were set long before MS arrived on the scene by the Snyderrato team that negotiated the original contract which included the $21 M that MS acted as though he were the controller of.

Bill Simmons view on the Cowboys is great and correct:

"The Cowboys remind me of the Kardashians in that their strongest talent is a relentless ability to remain relevant. Much like the Kardashians successfully created the illusion that they should be famous, the Cowboys successfully created the illusion that they should be a Super Bowl contender. And they didn't even have to leak a sex tape to do it. You know what Dallas' record has been since 2000? 82-78. You know how many playoff games it has won over that stretch? One. That's right … one more playoff win than Buffalo and Detroit.

As with the Kardashians, it's all about the packaging. We consider Tony Romo an elite QB because he dates celebrities and puts up big fantasy numbers; so what if he freezes in big games? We consider Jerry Jones an elite owner because he splurged on a magnificent stadium and matched wits with Ari Gold; so what if he never built a Super Bowl team without Jimmy Johnson? Dez Bryant has been reinvented as the steal of the 2010 draft based on a bunch of preseason practices that nobody saw; so what if half the league passed on him because teams thought he was a head case? Most fans consider the Dallas offense as "elite" because it has a few high fantasy picks; so what if they don't have a single elite offensive lineman? Every Cowboys Super Bowl pick includes the caveat, "They're returning 20 of 22 starters from last year"; so what if it means they're returning 20 of the 22 starters the Vikings trounced in January by 31 points?

Even the Kardashians thing makes more sense to me. They learned all their tricks from Paris Hilton; there are three of them; they have a catchy name; they don't say anything controversial or incriminating; they only date celebrities, athletes and reality-TV-ready degenerates; and Kim (their fearless leader) is the perfect goddess for her time: a multi-new-media icon (Internet, reality TV and Us Weekly) with a definite hook (her butt), a tawdry past (her sex tape) that wasn't really all that tawdry (the camerawork was bad, and you could barely see anything) and no discernible talent whatsoever (which doesn't matter, because you don't need talent to be famous in 2010). That smoke-and-mirrors routine should work in pop culture. In football? No. And yet, somehow, the Dallas Cowboys have the fourth-best odds to win this year's Super Bowl (8-1). I give up."

The planets (and clouds) are aligning for a 'Skins victory.

Who do you think a rainy and sloppy forecast benefits?

Answer: A solid O-line

The weather and field may just negate any WR advantage or passing game advantage the 'Poked hold/held.

Look for Cooley and Davis to each get 4-5+ targets.

Roy Williams will have more balls go through his hands than Jenna Jameson.

Agree with re ESPN and the Cowboys.

But I wouldn't say they are one of the primary culprits, they are THE primary culprit.

Every time I turn on ESPN's "First Take" on a Monday morning, one of the main topics is ALWAYS the Cowboys. If they won the previous day, they talk about how good they are, and if they lost the previous day, they talk about what they need to do to get back on track.

It is beyond old. It is as predictable as the sunrise.

I'm thinking the rain will end by late afternoon, and the tarps will be removed after the rain ends. Gametime... much cooler, NW winds 15 kts.

Pregame will take some tarpage in the lots.

Here's hoping Haynesworth does to Romo what Suh did to Delhomme.

That would put Al back in everyone's good graces.

Networks get a nice share of the blame - Fox and NBC.

Fox b/c they always give their crack duo of Troy Aikman/Joe Buck the right to do Cowpaddy games; and Troy is always the not-so-subtle cheerleader for the organization.

Al Michaels and Collinsworth are NFL company men and do nothing to play down the 'Girls image whenever they get their prime time slot.

Xfinity has been running these adds at top of the RI screen that feature "Professor" Tom Brady doling out nuggets of NFL info, like his "NFL Fan 101" class. One of his lectures is titled "NFL Cheat Sheet". Doesn't Verizon get the heavy-handed irony of this? Prof Brady's HC, Bill Belicheat, is the avatar of cheating to win in the NFL.

QuietTeeth aka pillow biter, so in other words you're basically saying that you're a deplorable flunkee troll who hasn't a damn thing better to do than make attempts at baiting people on a blog. I hope you're really fu_king proud of yourself over that fact.

No, I think you were really trying to say that I am in Haynesworth corner. When I lifted your skirt and exposed your attempt to pass facts as FALSE you fell back off it like the little b*tch made punk you are and try to call it "baiting".

Yeah, that sounds about right. Don't piss yourself and change up now, dipsh*t.

@p1funk

Simmons didn't address that directly but he normally is more than willing to criticize ESPN for making certain teams and/or players much more significant than they should be.

Why are we not looking at the Center Miami just cut and the Tackle Indy just cut for depht on OL, instead of Montgomery and the other scrub we have at center? If we get 2 injuries at OL, we are done again, just like last year. by the way, what is going on with FAT AL? Is it possible we have not talked about him for 24 hours?

I guess it's a need to desire a sense of power. You "show" your "power" through drawing people into arguments on message boards. Great. Golden star for you, troll dick.

Really now. If that isn't a sorry sad piece of sh*t existence then I really don't know what is.

It's like 'Fu_k man. Go fly a kite, go get laid, collect stamps, count the clouds in the sky...' -- anything is better than trying to bait people into arguments on message boards.

The only thing worse is admitting the sh*t.

REPOST
'Skins v. Pokes - Breakdown

O-Line - Slight Advantage 'Skins
I know they are without two starters but the Skins are breaking in a rookie vs Ware and it remains to see how Brown plays. Hicks is not very good either.

D-Line - Big Advantage 'pokes (assuming Haney plays)If Haynesworth plays is it going to be with effort and within the confines of the scheme? Doubt it. Haynesworth is not better than Ratliff and it is all down hill after AH. Olhsansky and Spears are good 3-4 DEs.

QB - Slight Advantage, Pokes

Starting RB - Advantage Pokes (No way)an already hobbled Portis with nothing behind him. Barber and Jones are very good.

WR's - Big Advantage Pokes

TE - Advantage Even - Witten is a stud. I now Davis is better than their backup but it remains to be seen how involved Davis is in the game. Bennett is a very talented backup. Cincy offered a 1st for him in the off season. Dallas declined. He is a bit of head case.

Secondary - Push

Linebackers - Huge Advantage Dallas. Ware is better than Orakpo. Carter is a terrible 3-4 OLB. Spencer will be a stud on the other side. The ILB are a wash but the Cowboys players have more 3-4 exp.

Kicking - Wash. Both are unproven.

Coaching - Advantage 'Skins

hicks is a solid o-lineman in pass and run. have not seen much of brown, rabach for the milllionth time is the weak link. I look for t. williams to have a solid game against ware(and to get some help) bryant(NT) again at this point in time may be better than keomoatu..haynesworth to play 30-35 snaps.
