Trent Williams inactive for Rams game

Updated: 3:25 p.m.
Well the Redskins can't seem to decide who they want to play today. Now they've reversed themselves again, saying Montgomery is going to sit and Riley is going to play.

For those keeping score at home, your inactives are: Trent Williams, Will Montgomery, Chad Simpson, Jeremy Jarmon, Anthony Bryant, Anthony Armstrong and Chris Horton. John Beck is the third quarterback.

Updated: 3:13 p.m.

OK, another change to the inactives: The Redskins, who distributed a list in the press box including offensive lineman Will Montgomery among the inactives, are now correcting themselves. Linebacker Perry Riley will in fact be inactive, and Montgomery will dress. This gives the Redskins seven active offensive linemen, which makes more sense.

Updated: 2:52 p.m.

As of right now, punter Josh Bidwell is still on the active roster for the Redskins against St. Louis - despite appearing to come up lame during warm-ups.

However, the initial report by ESPN980 included an error: offensive lineman Will Montgomery will not be active for today's game, and rookie linebacker Perry Riley will be active for the first time.

Riley battled a foot injury during training camp and had not appeared in the first two games against Dallas and Houston.

The other inactives from the early report are accurate: John Beck is the third quarterback, new running back Chad Simpson, defensive end Jeremy Jarmon, defensive lineman Anthony Bryant, and safety Chris Horton joining first-round pick Trent Williams.

Stephon Heyer will start in place of Williams at left tackle. Jammal Brown stays at right tackle, and Derrick Dockery keeps his starting job at left guard.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rookie left tackle Trent Williams, who suffered knee and toe injuries during last week's loss to Houston, apparently will be inactive for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Williams practiced only on Friday this week and was listed as questionable for the Rams game. According to ESPN980, Williams is among the inactives in what would have been his third NFL game. That means Stephon Heyer will move into the starting lineup - either at left tackle for Williams, or at right tackle. That would send Jammal Brown to the left side, where he played for the bulk of his career with the New Orleans Saints.

Also expected to be inactive is receiver Anthony Armstrong, who suffered a groin injury last week. That means third-year wideout Devin Thomas could see his first action from scrimmage of the season. Thomas has been used only on special teams through the first two games.

The other inactives: John Beck is the third quarterback, new running back Chad Simpson, defensive end Jeremy Jarmon, defensive lineman Anthony Bryant, safety Chris Horton and linebacker Perry Riley.

Thus, rookie tight end Logan Paulsen will be active for the first time. And, as expected, free safety Kareem Moore will make his season debut after missing the first two games with a knee injury.

Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, who missed the Houston game with a sprained ankle, is also active today. People in the organization said Haynesworth appeared to be committed to practice during the week, and some expect him to have a significant impact against the Rams -- which would be his first impact in the Mike Shanahan era.

Aikman just said that Miles Austin has 20 catches and is on pace for 160. If he does that would be some sort of record.

huh??

Skins should be able to beat the Rams easily. Good game for Trent to sit out.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | September 26, 2010 2:11 PM | Report abuse

put heyer on the right and brown on the left...keep it simple, both would probably feel more comfortable in those alignments. then run the ball all day. 200 yards rushing should be the goal.

Just looking at the stats on NFL.com it looks like Houston is sucking badly today -- in every category.

200 yards rushing should be the goal.

Posted by: joerutgens72 | September 26, 2010 2:13 PM

-----------

The goal is a laudable one, but even against the Rams defense, this ain't gonna happen, especially with Trench Williams inactive and Clinton "One Move Is Not Enough" Portis as the featured back.

Rams have a guy named Chris Long, and another named Fred Robbins who could both prove troublesome for the Redskins quilt work offensive line.

Expect to see Rabach on the wrong side of the LOS for much of the afternoon, and Stephon Heyer shadow boxing before and after the whistle.

Dockery or Lichtensteiger? Lichtensteiger or Dockery? Hickory Dickory Dockery.

Can McNabb carry the day? Let's hope for another 400 yard passing performance, because we might need it.

These Rams are better than they get credit for and they still have a veeeeery good RB with the last name Jackson.

I'm worried about this game...

Could be one of those 13-9 games...

I'm interested to see if this team takes another step forward by dominating lesser opponents.

Where's the update on Josh Bidwell??? He was injured in the pregame warmups and will be replaced by Graham Gano. Gano did take some reps as a punter with Baltimore last season during the preseason. The holder for field goals will be Chris Cooley.

Can't be offsides until the ball is snapped, playclock expired then ball was snapped.

Either way it appears to be a home game for the girls...The Texans are who I thought they were and we let them off the hook while the girls just scored again.

Titans are doing their job. Texans are being embarrassed at home. What's up with SF? They were supposed to be good this year.

Thought Bidwell might finally be the answer for the Skins (40 yd. net avg.) Too fragile though, apparently.

Some way, some how, Haslett has to get the run defense fixed.

They should be running the ball.

We're lucky.

Man, who didn't know they'd be coming at Bradford on that one? I say blitz the hell out of the dude all game long. (You know, because I'm a genius.)

Yes KpO didn't get slow down with that change of direction there. Great play by the stud.

Lets see a long drive with lots of running to tear up their defense.

The 3-4 defense is not working compared to last year defense. Last year defense kept the game close but the offense could not keep it going. So,far the offense is scoreing but no defense. How is the world do you let a receiver get behind you when the game is on the line. (Ex. the Texans game) receiver in the end zone. Why change something when it was working all last year? Drop the 3-4 and go back to redskins football and allow Haynesworth to clog up the middle which will allow the line backers make the tackle. I'm so D furstated with this. Allow the man to play the defense which he was hired for because this freaking 3-4 is not helping and over all the years redskins played redskins defense. It is early in the season, so returned to last year defense scheme and be amaze how they will perform. Something just does not fit certain people and this present defense is not redskins. Schnider brought Haynesworth in to make the defense stronger then do it. If only the defense players would come out and tell Coach Mike Shanahan this 3-4 is not working. Once this known to him, it may come to mind that Haynesworth has a point. The point is that he came to redskins to better the defense as a tackle not a nose guard. The players does this every day on the field and sometime the front office should listen. GET RID OF THIS D 3-4 DEFENSE.
