Trent Williams ready for Friday

On Friday night, rookie left tackle Trent Williams will line up for the first time in a competitive NFL game. He thinks he's ready.

Asked to grade himself thus far, Williams on Monday gave himself a B-minus. "Just because I'm hard on myself," he said.

Others who've been watching his progress through training camp would surely grade higher. Teammates and coaches continue to rave about Williams, though Friday's preseason opener against Buffalo will be the best indicator yet as to just how ready the rookie is to hold down the Redskins' starting left tackle spot.

"I'm still learning," he said following Monday's practice. "I'm getting better."

Physically, Williams says he feels comfortable with the jump from college to pros. But when it comes to the mental transition, Williams has had to do his homework.

"The biggest challenge is probably just keeping up with all the schemes we put in every day," he said. "The offensive coordinator and D-coordinator are scheming against each other, so they're throwing all types of different looks against one another. It's a little hard in the beginning, but that's why you got to study your playbook.

"There's so many different schemes to learn," he added. "You've got to learn them just like that. They might go over them once; you've got to pick up on it."

Glad to know Trent is ripping it up. First.

Really excited to see Jammal Brown on the right side as well.

Curious to see how Williams looked matched up against Hainesworth in practice (if at all).

I don't think we've seen that matchup yet. Word I heard was that Haynesworth was getting work at second string nose which, I imagine, puts him up against Rabach, since the second string goes up against the first string in practice. We'll see that matchup before camp is out, but for right now, AH is a nose tackle and has to satisfy himself with running over Rabach.

Yes, it's their live game that night.

Did anybody else notice how eager Romo seemed to get on his teammates last night as their drive melted down. He's always been whiney...but last night he seemed to be trying to indicate that his displeasure was with his teammates more than I remember him doing. I love how much the Bovine Cartel is talking about the SB being in that tacky, overblown BestBuy store they call a stadium. Success in the NFL comes from taking it a game at at time...not thinking about February in August. They are putting so much unnecessary pressure on themselves with that crap.
I was a little disappointed to see that their new LT looked to have quick feet and seemed plenty strong.

"for right now, AH is a nose tackle and has to satisfy himself with running over Rabach. "

Well, even 50% AH shouldn't have a problem with Rabach. I thought I read somewhere AH was taking snaps as 2nd nose tackle but also as 2nd-3rd RDE. Either way, the solid competition against Williams should get him up to snuff pretty quickly on the blind side.

M Coleman, I thought Romo looked typically bad terrible accuracy. The only pass that was working for him were those little 8-10 yrd com back patterns that Crayton and Miles were running against Adam Jones.
Their red zone offense looked as bad as it is and will continue to be.
Doug Free looked very good which flat out sucks.

Did anyone else noticed Dennis Morris is not on the depth chart? Is this an oversight or am I missing something? Anyone with info on this?

Thanks psps for the homer mcfanboy info.

@CL See what I'm saying? You will be a believer soon. Davis rulez, Cooley... well you know he's pretty good too.

2. Fred Davis, tight end – Chris Cooley is the man. I’ve got no problem saying it and neither does Davis. But the offensive star throughout this entire offseason has easily been Freddie Delight. The days of oversleeping practice and/or looking lost on the football field are long gone. These days, the third-year pro is automatic – especially when running a seam route. If a quarterback can get the ball near him, Davis has had no problem catching the ball in stride and blowing by defenders. If he can improve his blocking, Davis is going to be a force in this league.

Galloway is the starter? For real? This must be a pretty sad receiving corps if that old fart can beat the others out for the starting job. Still, it is early and those old legs will start to show... My thought is Roydell Williams or Mike Furrey will end up being the starters... I think Shanahan is just playing with the receivers' minds with this Galloway thing.

Did someone say poop?

Speaking of which, yesterday I had some Costco pizza for dinner, which in turn, led to some interesting times in the bathroom (on the toilet, obviously) this morning.

Even the plunger didn't want to go into that mess.

What's up with Terrence Austin being #4? I thought he was killing it in practice.

Posted by: iH8dallas | August 9, 2010 3:03 PM | Report abuse

@LH....yeah I read the tea leaves too, we'll see this season. As it stands now they might be the 2 and 3rd best "pass catchers" on the team...maybe even 1/2 if you are looking to downgrade Moss.

Albert Haynesworth love to eat balls.

Cheese Balls

Rum Balls

Shrimp Balls

Chocolate Balls

Meatballs

and of course.....Schwetty Balls!

psp thanks for the homer mcfanboy post.

Carricker is turning out to be a real good pick up for the skins. I noticed that in 2008 after Haslett took over as HC, Carricker was the starting NT in Haslett''s 3-4 hybrid. With the flexibility Carricker and Haynesworth brings the DE/NT position the Skins maybe able to carry 7 DLinemen freeing up an extra spot for a certain WR.

Hes the 4th Fb which means he'd better start impressing on special teams or make a highlight or two in the first few pre-season games to avoid getting put on the practice squad.

There's still plenty of time to go and I'm sure alot of the depth positions will change before all is set and done.

Call me crazy, but I think Shanahan's intentionally devaluing some guys on the depth chart just to motivate them a little more before the 1st pre-season game.

Where's MrIrvin88?

Urban Meyer was in Caton to support the ex Gator Emmitt and Emmitt failed to even mention the Gators. When asked why, he stated that it wasn't his fault because he didn't write the speech. Turns out he hired the same speech writer that Irvin hired for his.

What a f'in joke. You are given the highest honor in pro sports and you don't even have the intellectual capabilites to capture just how special your career and journey was on your own.

Needless to say, I not surprised the biggest joke of a pro sports and fan base is nothing but fraudulent.

Russ Grimm would have owned Fat Albert Haynesworth like his did Randy White.

Fat Albert is a freaking quitter and nothing I have seen thus far even shows that he is the least bit interested in playing football anymore.

He is straight up pulling a "Costanza", i.e. trying to be fired. Will FatFuk Albert resort, like Costanza, to insulting the owner to his face, dragging the 3 Lombardi trophies around the parking lot behind his Rolls Royce or heaven forbid, don a flesh-colored body suit and streak across the field during halftime, "Body-Suit Man" style?

I would hate to see what Joe "And Yes" Jacoby would have done to his sorry butt. Joe would have driven AH into the ground and then sold him a hatchback.

Haynesworth is a big, fat, stinky, hairy, greasy, 1972 porno vah gina.

Predator, HAHAHAHA, Effing Classic! I actually remember seeing that and my very first thought during Emmit's speech was that it was less an induction/acceptance speech and more of an audition for another analyst position.

Emmit Smith is a fraud. He was a decent and solid back but NO WAY was he in the class of Sweetness or Brown. He would have been carrying their pads like Dez Bryant.

Even when the crocodile tears came flowing out while addressing Moose Johnston, I could almost hear Moose thinking to himself - "you selfish prick!"

With the line that the Cowpies had in the early 90's, Marcus Mason could have won several consecutive rushing titles.

Book That!
