Zebra, thats a good call on Champ Bailey.

Plus, I really thought the Redskins did Art Monk dirty, after they signed that supposedly superstar Desmond Howard. What a joke he was. I think Art signed for less than the Redskins offered with Philly and DHoward was signed to just under two million. (Art was @ 800k) I wish the Redskins would just drop me 1.2 million for nothing.

You just don't treat a hall of fame player like that.

Rando;

He went to the Jets, and it was the first year of FA, so they might not have known how long term contracts or retirements affected them.

But I will say, my sister, the one who really made me a diehard, stopped hailing after the day they got rid of #81

Antonio Pierce is a beast. I understand that our current LB corps is dominate and wouldnt look the same but when he and marcus were on they were a menace. Pierce with mcintosh or fletch would be real fun to see.

Following up. I was never appreciated here. Egotistical coaches got in the way of my talent. My knee betrayed me. My agent betrayed me. The coaches lied. My contract as a sham.

Why isn't my name up on the ring of honor? It's the cheater Joe Gibbs who never appreciated my talent.

I was the best linebacker here ever.

Be sure to vote early and often for me in the Hall of Fame.

I have been informed that I'm not yet eligible for the Hall of fame. I have since submitted documents that show I quit trying three years before I retired. This means the five years have passed and I should be voted in.

If I'm not, it's a sham. I blame Gregg Williams who never understood my value to the team.

I have emailwd the team what weekends I am available to attend Ring of Honor ceremonies that don't conflict with teh New York Giants Hall o Fame dates.

I haven't heard back yet. That's a sham and a conspiracy. I blame Gibbs.

I mean, surely you can understand that we'd be better off keeping another LB, or CB?

Man, yall are wrong on LaVar. LaVar was the man....

anyway a quote from SI today :

"• From HBO's Hard Knocks: "He hates losing more than he likes winning," Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton on QB Tony Romo.

I just love that quote. And it's backed up in how Romo approaches the game. I've been told that he never played tennis before high school and was challenged to a match by the best player on the varsity team. Romo won without losing a set. The passionate will to win is what takes him from being good to great."

yeah there's an original quote; what a loser. Of course Romo plays tennis!

By JOHN HOLLIS

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Friday, August 22, 2008

A Fulton County woman has taken out a restraining order against NBA star Shaquille O’Neal after claiming he stalked her.

Judge Richard Hicks granted Alexis Miller’s request on Thursday after reviewing her claims that the NBA star threatened her with bodily harm and made harassing phone calls in which he would breathe heavily into the phone before hanging up.

Miller, a 23-year-old independent music artist professionally known as Maryjane, also alleged that O’Neal, 36, threatened to ruin her career by having her blackballed after Miller ended an intimate relationship between the two last month.

Under terms of the restraining order, O’Neal is prohibited from having any contact or even coming within 200 yards of Miller or her 19-month-old son.

O’Neal, who resides in Florida, is scheduled to appear before Judge Karen Woodson on Sept. 4.

O’Neal has played 16 NBA seasons, winning three league championships with the Lakers (2000, 2001 and 2002) and another with the Miami Heat (2006). He was traded to the Phoenix Suns in February.

"In 2007 Georgia led all SEC schools (and the SEC led all other conferences) with 37 former players on NFL rosters. State (17), Arkansas (12), Kentucky (6) and Vanderbilt (5). Perhaps Georgia’s most impressive stat regarding the NFL is 15 former Bulldogs have helped their teams reach the Super Bowl in just the last five years, including Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward. Ward is one of three Super Bowl MVPs UGA has produced, including Terrell Davis and Jake Scott."

"Today, Georgia has the dubious distinction of also leading all SEC schools (and the SEC led all other conferences) with 96 former players serving time behind bars in state or federal prisons. The shameless Bulldogs were followed by Arkansas (10), Tennessee (6), LSU (5), Florida (4), Auburn (4), Alabama (4), South Carolina (2), Ole Miss (2), Miss. Frost has one known edge over Brooks, which is what I think is giving the Skins pause ... Frost covers on his punts. He may punt crappy, but he tackles well. From what I can tell on the NFL site, he has not had one of his punts returned for a TD. [Someone said they found a good stats site the other day ... I bet Frost has a pretty high number of tackles for a punter, if not the highest.] His high school career was as a linebacker.

The rhap against Brooks is that he doesn't try to make tackles if/when his punts get returned.

I think the trade off is hang time/long punts vs. tackles/pooch punts. And then there is the holder job ... which seems to be something that a QB should do anyway. Portis and Randel-El can throw well ... maybe one of those guys to hold?

Posted by: dcsween | August 22, 2008 2:33 PM | Report abuse

Vagas Ferguson...

...Skins could have picked him up in the 1st round in the 1980 draft. He was an All-American RB who finished 5th in voting for the Heisman.

My buddies and I were spittin' mad that he was passed over. His name was cool enough in our books that the Skins should have drafted him. Instead, we drafted some 'No Name' from Syracuse...

Cool Redskins facts for those that don't know the history.

There have been 26 head coaches for the Washington Redskins, including coaches for the Boston Redskins (1933–1936) and Boston Braves (1932), of the National Football League (NFL). The Redskins franchise was founded as the Boston Braves, named after the local baseball franchise.[2] The team changed their name to the Redskins in 1933 and moved to Washington, D.C. in 1937.[3]

Joe Gibbs is the only coach to have more than one tenure.[4] Two different coaches have won NFL championships with the team: Ray Flaherty in 1937 and 1942, and Joe Gibbs in 1982, 1987, and 1991.[5] Gibbs is the all-time leader in games coached and wins, and Dudley DeGroot leads all coaches in winning percentage with .737 (with at least one full season coached).[6] Mike Nixon is statistically the worst coach the Redskins have had in terms of winning percentage, with .182.[7]

Of the 26 Redskins coaches, seven have been elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including Ray Flaherty, Turk Edwards, Curly Lambeau, Otto Graham, Vince Lombardi, George Allen, and Joe Gibbs.[8] Several former players have been head coach for the Redskins, including Turk Edwards, Dick Todd, and Jack Pardee. In addition, former players have become assistant coaches, such as Earnest Byner and Russ Grimm. The current coach is Jim Zorn, who was hired on February 9, 2008.[9] Statistics correct as of January 5, 2008, after the end of the 2007 NFL season.

Oh so you went to the Citadel then (sarcasm, Mr. JackA$$).
And its been 5 years since the team you root for won a SEC Championship and as for better records, ask New England how that worked out for them last year. Maybe so, you do understand last year had very low expectations for UGA? It was no surprise when we lost to USC early in the year. It was a surprise going 11-2 and even sniffing the BCS. You assume I think UGA is worldbeaters when in fact I usually don't. Sorry for being excited about returning 18 starters from last year's 11-2 team...

Also you might not know but UGA won the SEC Championship in 2005-2006 year...and since 2000 we're 2-1 in our 3 appearances, only second to LSU's 4 appearances. And do I even need to go into Mark Richt's record? Of current coaches in the SEC, all-time he is #2 in winning percentage behind only Urban Meyer. And please note that Mark Richt has been in the SEC his entire career, while Meyer spent a combined 4 years at Bowling Green and Utah.

That said, Urban is 70-16 and Coach Richt is 72-19.

UGA is so awesome, we should be given the NC before each season and not have to play at all.

For those of you who want to sign the Bolt:

"NFL spokesman Greg Aiello revealed to Profootballtalk.com that Jamaican runner Usain Bolt would not be eligible to sign with any team as a free agent. He'd have to declare for the NFL Draft. "If an individual calls us and wants to know if he is eligible for the draft, we ask him a series of questions," Aiello said. "When did he graduate from high school? Did he attend college? Have Usain give us a call." Thanks to Maurice Clarett, Bolt would need three years to pass since he graduated high school to be eligible. His split time in the 40 yards is 3.5, but Bolt is only 6'5/190. Adrian Wilson would probably love to see him go across the middle."

dcsween (in the Truth person) says that they should get it down to 74 (or 73) ... to make room for a waiver wire pickup of another linebacker (or two).

So who will be the five, six, or seven guys cut on Tuesday? And who should they be. And, for bonus points (ask Greg about these), who will be the one or two LBs that they pick up?

Oh, and while I've got you on the grill, you old porker, how's your boy Bramlet doing in San Diego? Will this be the weekend when he throws his first pass as a Charger?

First thing you need to understand about Truth is that he doesn't have a "fully integrated" personality. So this could be real or fake. And when it's real and you call him on it he says "can't ya'll tell I was bein sarcastic? ya'll don't know nothing." It gets tiresome.

I will say this, though: it's been two or three months since he quit the blog in a huff. I'm starting to think he's taken metamucil and is regular.

I'd love to answer these questions, but because my responses may or may not involve Eramus James ... and because I am officially "giving it a rest" until after tomorrow night's game ... I can't answer it. Frankly, I won't even try to answer the "should" question ... except re: Bramlett ... who has a better chance (though only slightly) of making the Charger's roster than Devine has of making the Skin's roster.

I haven't been following the Chargers (or most any other team) this preseason. I heard that there was some suckage on Charlie Whitehurst's part. Whitehurst, like Colt Brennan, was the current regime's draft choice. Unlike Brennan, however, Whitehurst has had some time demonstrate his unimpressiveness. I figure that if Volek or Whitehurst get hurt (like IR hurt), then Bramlett is a lock.

Same with Devine ... the only way he stays on the roster is if one of the other three QBs gets hurt real bad. Please, please, please (knock on wood), don't let Jason Campbell get hurt.

Of the 80 guys on the roster who luck out most because of position, Holloway is that guy. He is effectively a second string LB tomorrow night (given the condition of Blades and Sinclair ... and the need to not work Rocky beyond what is necessary, and maybe Marcus). Fletcher and Khary Campbell are starters. Fitcher/Holloway behind them. Nickel corners rotating. [The depth at CB and DT makes those the least lucky position-wise.]

Posted by: dcsween | August 22, 2008 5:00 PM

One thing Devine has going for him that Bramlett lacks is that he can be stashed on the practice squad, although I think this team has too many other talented youngsters ahead of him and doesn't need a fourth QB in practice.

First cutdowns are never interesting, except for a few wizzened old vets who won't make the final cut and are cut early so that they have a chance of catching on elsewhere. Don't think that applies to us, but it could be how we acquire a guy to fill your two extra cuts.

We won't have a shot at a promising young LB until the final cuts. Wonder how Henderson from MD is doing with the Vikes?

Well, "injury" is not decided by a jury, but by the team's doctors. This is fairly flexible.

Ecker's problem was that he was chronically injured -- he was insufficiently flexible.

I wonder whether Goode is one of those guys we could trade to another team for a sixth or seventh -- or for one of their talented young'uns who wouldn't get past waivers to the practice squad. I wish we had a good talent evaluator on the blog to answer these questions.

QB: Drew Brees
RB: Joseph Addai
RB: Laurence Maroney
RB/WR: Reggie Bush
WR: Anquan Boldin
WR: Santana Moss
TE: Todd Heap
D/ST: Redskins
K: Mason Crosby

Key Reserves: Edgerrin James, Chris Johnson, Deangelo Williams, Randle El, DJ Hackett, David Garrard, Jake Delhomme.

I'd say I'm in solid running for a top 3 seed.

Oh and by the way, the top fantasy sleeper this year: Tedd Ginn Jr. Never underestimate a talent when there is literally no other options to go to.

My Cardinals source just informed me that Anquan Boldin isn't a bad guy in the least. He's a great guy who just wants to get paid. And his salary is dwarfed by Larry Fitzgerald's. I think the Eagles' need for Boldin should make Cowboys owner Jerry Jones that much more interested. Boldin has three years left on his deal in which he will make about $12 million more dollars. Fitzgerald signed a four-year $40 million contract ($30 million guaranteed) in the off-season.

I'd rather see Q 16 games or 1x a year every few seasons. 2x a year wouldn't be good.

Philly would have to be fools to not go after him. Their WRs are awful and their best WR is hurting. They have QB that took his team to the SB when he had a top WR. They need him more than we do.

THere are rumors that cL passed the biscuit to someone else last weekend. Can we get confirmation, RI needs to know. Who ate the biscuit at the RI circle jerk.

Well then it wouldn't have been quite as funny if everyone knew that it wasn't really him/you/whomever. Should I have signed it The Truth (not really) or Hanni Montani (not really)? Just seems to lose something in the translation. Besides, I think most of the folks on here are smart enought to know that it's not really the real poster.

Cowboys' Season Takes An Early Hit
August 22, 2008 11:58 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

The injury bug reared its ugly head again in Week 3 of preseason and even bit a star player, Cowboys running back, Marion Barber. It was an anguishing sight. Barber was hit during a running play by Texans safety Will Demps in the second quarter Friday, then proceeded to fall awkwardly as his right foot stuck in the turf. His body continued its momentum forward, yet the foot stayed behind, resulting in hyperflexion (excessive bending) of his knee as his thigh stretched laterally. Barber immediately grabbed his knee and simply laid there holding it, while Andre Johnson, the Texans wide receiver who was standing on the sideline nearby, immediately began jumping up and down, waving frantically for the medical personnel to come over. That was not a good sign. Before long, Barber was carted off the field as both teams gathered to wish him well in his recovery.

Unfortunately, he's going to need it. The Dallas Morning News reported that Barber suffered a torn right patellar tendon and that he was headed off to Alabama for surgery with Dr. James Andrews. The patellar tendon is the thick, strong tendon that anchors the quadriceps muscle (the large muscle on the front of the thigh) to the lower leg (tibia). Rupturing it requires a great deal of force, and if you consider the forces at work, the injury makes sense. Barber was running at high speed, meaning the quadriceps was hard at work, when suddenly his leg was forced into a "hurdler's stretch" position, putting that muscle on maximum stretch. Muscles are not made to maximally contract, or shorten, and maximally stretch, or lengthen, at the exact same time. When they do, something is going to give, and that is what we saw in the case of Barber's knee injury.

He can recover from this, but there is no doubt the rehabilitation process will be long and arduous. He will face a long road, but he does have youth and fitness on his side. Add in his determination, and still he has a positive future. In the meantime, if he was on your fantasy roster, you should be shopping or dealing this week for a replacement.

It's an honor for Biden to run alongside such a bright and clean and articulate African American. Ugh. This pick gives the GOP so much ammo it's sickening.

And who does McCain pick in response? If you get that I'll be truly impressed.
