I don't think the Redskins have a 6th round pick in next Aprils draft..

Didn't we trade this years 2nd and next years 6th for Jason Taylor?

Posted by: Vicc | October 13, 2009 7:30 AM | Report abuse

Come on, the Skins will beat the Chiefs. Sure, the Skins offense is a complete liability -- the offensive line will get Campbell and Portis killed. But I have the recipe -- they're going full Waterboy on the Chiefs. They'll punt on first down and just play defense all day.

That means Zorn never calls a play, Campbell never throw a ball, and the offensive line doesn't have to block anyone. Winner!

I wanna puke thinking about how Parcells got J Taylor AND a second round pick basically...

Posted by: chrislarry | October 12, 2009 11:18 PM | Report abuse

Actually it was a 2nd this year and a 6th in 2010 and we got him back at a salary reduction of about 80%.

Thanks for that!

Next year they don't have a 3rd round pick because they used it to grab Jeremy Jarmon this year. The 6th round pick next year may have gone to the Taylor trade but I am not sure. I recall one of the lower round picks is gone.

Correct on the 6th round pick. So no 3rd, 6th.

Just catching up, been out of town:

So while Carlos Rogers couldn't have been more correct in what he said about how it starts with ownership/management, its kind of funny coming from him. I mean, catch an interception every now and then, live up to your status as the 9th overall pick in the draft before you start pointing the finger....

I don't get the whole benching of Rhinehart just to put Mike Williams in...that to me makes ZERO sense. In fact less than zero sense if thats possible. They were running to the right with some good success, has it been determined whose idea this was??

Hey Greg, sorry to see the Sox bow out with barely a whimper like that.

Let's hope that the Skins find a way to win with some authority this week. If they can't, it might get really ugly.

Best thing about last night's Fins win? Listening to Mike Greenberg whining on Mike & Mike this morning!!

Orakpo useless? Jarmon useless?

If they'd had this year the pick they're likely to have next year, then Sanchez would be our QB of the future.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | October 13, 2009 8:21 AM | Report abuse

As for the KC game, I think the final score might be 7-0 with Washington scoring a defensive touchdown to make the difference. The defense has to score in this one. They came close last week. Now, with the offensive line in bad shape, the inept offense will be even more inept, so this one is all on the defense. Cassell has been sacked a lot, so the defense should be thinking about creative ways to get to the QB and further disrupt the offense, hoepfully forcing Cassell into some bad passes.

It was the right idea but they failed the execution. BMW is a decent run blocker. The thing is that so is Rhino. Hmm, maybe they should have put BMW in for Heyer?

"This Henne kid can play....this defense is no joke..."

I posted this after the dolphins beat the bills and folks laughed saying it was too early to tell.

But yes, Chad Henne can play.

How does it effect the skins?: well, there will be two very good quarterbacks who were also multiple year starters--S Bradford, J Locker--in next year's draft.

The FO might look at the play of Flacco, Ryan, Sanchez, Henne, Cassel, and think, "Hey, a young guy is as good as and experienced guy."

"Let's not re-sign JC and draft a quarterback."

Thing is, they won't look at the play of Boller, Russell, Quinn, Young, and parse the difference.

And why bring a young'n in to play quarterback behind the horrible offensive line so we can can relive the Curious Case of Patrick Ramsey?

No matter how fans feel about him, re-siging Campbell to a low-ball incentive deal with a big signing bonus should be done before the season ends.

Why?: the devil you know beats the devil you don't know.

And from the why things have worked for this team, the devil is winning every Sunday afternoon.

Just took a look back at the archives to see what the skinny was on the TJ Duckett trade (for draft picks on "useless players") and what a trail of tears the Insider Archives are.
Vinny should fall for the Jason Taylor trade alone.

Chiefs are getting better each week. Skins are getting worse. Cheifs can score points, and skins can't. So, in my view, that's a recipe for a loss. Who cares if the Cheifs have an awful defense. Carolina had an awful defense until the skins rolled into town. How'd did Jason Campbell and co. exploit one of the worst defenses in the league? Not well.

Welcome to the Redskins. This is how we roll. I hope the heck that he was injured and we didn't just pull him for poor play. I mean if we're benching guys for poor play we'd have to forfeit. The thing is the season is over so you need to just throw Rhino in there and see what we've got. There will be some growing pains but we need to know if we are taking a guard in the second round of the draft or if we are going to try to get a SLB, a second OT since we better have already taken one in the first round, or a running back.

I said it last spring and I'll say it now: the Sawx needed another bat- a veteran bat from a guy who sits around all year knowing he duty is to hit come October.

If the Yanks don't sign Hideki Matsui--and they might not--Theo should jump at the chance of putting him in the Sawx lineup.

He's not an everyday player, but he'll get you the timely home run/hit you need late in the year.

I think it's the best strategy. Build the team first, then draft the franchise QB (Ravens, Falcons, etc) But this FO will not see it that way. Not splashy enough.

Posted by: TWISI | October 13, 2009 8:52 AM | Report abuse

MistaMoe,
I agree with you that the Redskins should focus on drafting offensive linemen next year and not worry about a quarterback until they can protect him. I am still skeptical about Campbell's abilities; however, and I suspect Campbell would not be open to a one year deal playing for chump change (if Campbell is smart he will put as much distance behind he and this team as possible). I am thinking they should bank on Brennan winning the starting job next year, which, I admit is a heck of a reach. I think Collins is done, so as insurance, I think they need to sign some taxi QB to fill the role just in case Brennan falters. Send Morocco scouring the likes of the CFL and the lesser known colleges for a decent third stringer. Next year is a write-off. They can't rebuild the running back corps, the offensive line, and get a uber QB all in the same year, so they need to spackle the parts they can't fix and try to field a competitive team.

SELL THE TEAM is a nice chant that I'd like to hear at Fed Ex field next Sunday. It has a nice ring to it, and I think it would catch on pretty well. I wont be there, I live in Indy, but I know some of you will be there and I think you should take it upon yourselves to get that going. The only way Snyder will sell the team is by being shoved into the spotlight and embarrassed repeatedly. He already tried to squash it with the bags, but you cant stop a chant.

SELL! THE! TEAM!

This team needs a complete overhaul! There aren't 15 really good players on this team. They need to hire Jimmy Johnson as GM. Have him work his trade for draft picks magic and have him hire a tough as nails coach (Jon Gruden). Mr. Snyder then needs to apologize to the fans, Not raise prices again, (enjoy the money he will get back by trading or cutting all the dead weight and dead money. And then step back for good and let the "football guys" lead this team back to the glory of championship football again.
Vinny must go Mr. Snyder

Good evaluation, I think you're dead on about this FO. The thing they didn't see is this:

2009 Ravens select Oher first round

2009 Ravens brought in pro bowl center Matt Birk.
Ravens

2008 Ravens select Cousins in the third round

2007 Ravens select Gaither in the 5th round supplemental draft

2007 Ravens select Ben Grubbs in the first round.

2006 Ravens select Chester second round

The Ravens spent 3 years building their line. They had 5 good offensive lineman at the time they drafted Flacco. They lost a tackle and a center and then they replaced them immediately.

I don't want to trade down. I don't want more offensive lineman. We have plenty of offensive linemam. I want the best offensive lineman.

I want
First round: Russel Okung or Trent Williams

I think we are going to pick ahead of the Lions, Bills, Packers, and Niners. Those teams will probably want tackles too. The Chiefs may pick before us so we should get either Okung or Trent Williams assuming the Chiefs take one of those two.

Second round: Mike Johnson or another tackle if there are still some good ones left like the guy from USC or Ciron Black. We really need two tackles. We could keep Dockery and plug BMW in at guard and draft 2 tackles. That would give us a decent line for 2011. Then in 2011 we can take the best guards and possibly a center.

Hopefully either sergio render or john jerry fall to the 4th round and we can get one of them.

JC is a joke of a QB, the problem is though he is nowhere near the biggest problem this team has. Other than Cooley, Moss, and Dockery essentially the entire offense needs to be replaced....that's unbelievable and out of what's on our roster on the offensive side of the ball JC is low on the list of what needs immediate attention, and trust me it pains me to say that, but with the oline we have it doesn't matter who the qb is.

Here is my rebuilding plan, and in today's NFL it can be done in a year not 37 seasons like some people seem to think especially because we'll be able to cut anyone we want thanks to the uncapped year. I don't think there will be any top notch talent on the market but I do think there will be a lot of players available that can be signed to reasonable short term deals as stop gaps while young players are drafted and developed.

First - Fire Zorn, Fire Cerrato.

Hire - My preference would be Casserly as GM and Grimm as Head Coach but anything that gets Vinny and Zorny gone I'm fine with.

Cut:
W. Mont.
Batiste
BMW
Heyer
Smoot
Griffen
R. Thomas
Samuels
Portis
Betts
Daniels/Wynn (probably will retire anyway)
Rock
Collins
ARE
Carter

Re-Sign:
Rogers
JC

Sign: none of these marquee names biggest contract ever guys (don't think any will be out there anyway) but just middle tier solid vets.
1 guard
2 tackles
1 DE
2 LB
1 Corner
1 RB

Draft:
Round 1 Okung or Williams
Round 2 QB (looking like Jevon Snead could be slipping) and let him sit for a year behind JC
Round 3 - gone Jarmon
Round 4 take a speed back
Round 5 - gone Taylor
Round 6 Guard
Round 7 best available flier

Bring in a bunch of undrafted RBs, LBs, DEs, and WRs.

Bring Colt back in as your 3rd QB, put all the WRs on notice that they are on the chopping block if they don't perform.

That's it.

Of all the ideas presented, I like PAskinsfan17 the best. We need quality Olinemen. The players they have now on the team will make good backups because they'll have experience and another year of development. Build the OL in the 1st two rounds, but also they'll need another DT (Griff) and possibly another speed rusher. I like the idea of getting a speed back and another corner along the way as well.

I'd say our draft needs are as follows.

1. RT-We don't even have one.
2. LT-Samuels will be gone soon and at the very least we need a quality backup.
3. RG-BMW could plug in for now if needed.
4. SLB-Get Orakpo on the dline.
5. RB-Portis is done.
6. C-Rabach isn't that good.
7. LDT-Griff will be gone soon.
8. FS-Let's move LaRon back to SS.
9. K-Suisham sucks
10. QB - JC isn't the best.

Posted by: PAskinsfan17 | October 13, 2009 9:51 AM | Report abuse

The team needs a 2 year plan for overhauling the whole roster. I would institute a new philosophy during the rebuilding process. Simple rules, No free agents over 25 will be signed. Any active players over 30 are on the trading block. Anyone who's not playing up to their pay check watch their @$$. I would not be opposed to trading back in the first round this year for a 1st rounder next year that way we can handle a year of cap issues (if there is a cap).

QB- Re-sign Campbell while publicly saying that he is the QB through the re-building process, a 2-3 year deal, and once we sign a QB of the future through the draft, its up to that guy to beat him out for the starting spot. Jason Campbell is not great but he is loyal, and that is still worth something. I would not mind cutting collins right now, and going after a free agent QB. The problem is really that there are no great Free Agent QB's out there next year unless an unexpected cut occurs. So either you get an unproven rookie or JC or a FAQB probably worse then JC.

RB's-All of our RB's are dead men walking. This is a big position of need. I watch to see if any of the good backup RB's out there are released I would grab a few. Maybe keep 1 of the guys on this roster out of necessity but move to a 2 back system for a while.

WR- El and Moss are trade bate at this point. Keep the three young WR's and hope a real position coach can help them progress. Short term sign 1-2 FA WR's to replace Moss or El if they are lost, in 2 or 3 seasons when issues of the line are solved, look to draft a new WR or sign an elite WR. I will throw TE's in here, keep Davis and Cooley and lets find a younger blocking TE (or maybe convert a young lineman to blocking TE).

O-Line- Maybe we keep Heyer, Rhinheart and Dockery, not giving any of them a starting spot, every spot on my roster is open fight for position. But the first 4 picks in the draft need to be on the line, if not the entire draft needs to focus on that. Samuels and Randy are probably going to join the Alumni association this year, cut the Center as he looks past his prime.

D-Line- Basicly one spot we are in okay shape. I assume old guys will retire but move Orakpo and Jarmon to starting DE, keep our 4 DT's, and Carter as backup DE.

OLB- probably the area the team needs to upgrade most after O-line. We need a real backup MLB and future replacement for LFB. Also, Rocky Mac is I think at the peak of his potential, which is not terrible but he is not going to be a game changer. All our backups at LB are nothing more then special teams guys. Basically we need a starting OLB a backup OLB and a Backup MLB (who has potential to start).

DB- Get a Free Safty, cut smoot, keep Hall-Rogers for now, trade Horton or LaRon for picks as we have a glut of SS's and Doguhty at least has shown to be an amazing run stopper. I like our other CB's enough but if there was a bigger corner available I think it may be worth a look.

There are some players on this Team that we need to get rid of for sure.

However, the massive overhaul that some call for is just ridiculous.

You can't just throw the baby out with the bath water. That is just as bad as not cutting the few non-performers like Betts and Cartwright whom occupy skilled position roles but play the same vanilla game year after year.

The problem with Campbell is Zorn. Does Campbell make mistakes? Yeah. But, his overall decision making is determined by Zorn. I am sure of that fact.

Zorn, whom I thought would get it done, does not know how to prepare his offense to score.

The O-Line sucks because Buges does not know jack about WCO and Zorn does not either. Buges though great is not getting it done, but it is Zorns fault because his Offensive gameplan/strategy does not put players in position to play well.

You cannot fire half the Team, or get a new one at seasons end.

Fire Zorn now along with Vinnie, and while you are at it, bench Portis and Sellars. Portis should know by now that his non-practicing ways for years now has caught up with him.

Sellars is hurt and the experts say that his particular injury does not allow him the power to block properly.

The fact that Sellars continues to play while hurt is emblematic of a failed philosophy by the Redskins of continueing to play starters when they are hurt rather than sitting them.

As a die hard fan I was partial with the Skins losing and even putting a spin on it. While everyone was so disappointed in the Detroit lost, and a 9-7 win against the lowly Rams, I was more upset with the Skins losing to the Giants. I figured the Lions number was up and just so happened to be on our dime. In my football wisdom I figured that it is more tougher to play a winless opponent than it is to play an opponent with wins. So here we are the Rams, Detroit, Carolina, and now another winless opponent coming up in the Chiefs. These are some tough games knowing that each of these sorry teams are looking at the Skins as their one chance to win a game, to get on a roll, to get the monkey off their backs. The Skins are now that team that every winless team wants to play. That is a tough label to have. And while everyone is sold on Gruden, if any can remember, he won a Superbowl with Tony Dungee's players. There was the real tragedy we slept on by not getting Vick (after going after Sanchez and Cutler)who had a Tony Dungee connection. Here is another wakeup call for all those who think we don;t have a GM, we do, it's Vinny..lol, he just have a better title that GM, its VP of Football Operations. Don't you think all GM's would like their title changed to that. We all thought that our three youngins we picked in the 2nd round would have paid off by now but they seem to can't make a play or even play on the field due to coach's decisions. We don't use Mike Sellars enough at fullback to either block or run, we don't use two tight end sets, Jason doesn't RUN enough, there are no separation in our receivers, D-Hall can't tackle even though he comes up with a play every now and then, Carlos Rogers can't intercept balls thrown directly at him, actually Smoot was looking good, Portis runs tough but no where to run, need to get him out on screens, the O-Line are the step childs because every year the Skins always look to sure up the defense in the draft and free-agency first, and then try to get O-Line upgraded with lesser talent. As bad as we need to we will never pick an O-Lineman in the earlier rounds. We need a game changer at running back. Did anyone see the Monday night game and how effective Miami was running the wildcat with Rick williams and Ron Brown. We need to do some things. But we have one more winless team to play. Tread lightly.

I'm actually beginning to enjoy this season!! It gives me great comfort and joy knowing that $nyder and his buttboi Vinny Cerrato are the proud owners of this steaming, heaping pile of feces.

Why/how would Snyder be rubbing elbows with Tom Cruise if Snyder were not a triple-gold platinum member of the Church of Scientology?

Breaking news -

Redskins owner Daniel $nyder will charge $1.00 for the use of urinals at FedEx. Women can still piss for free.

Clean house start over with young hungry blue collar players. Need a GM a Bill Parcells type individual. Bill Cowher would be a good GM if not coach. Do not trade away our draft picks for old players. WE NEED TO GO BACK AND CRAWL,WALK,AND THEN RUN.
