Washington, Heyer Are on Practice Field

From Jason Reid:

Practice has begun with players in shorts and shells. Marcus Washington and Stephon Heyer are on the field; only Reed Doughty is unaccounted for and he's been out with a bad back, so that is no surprise.

Is Chris Samuels a HOF? I think he is right on the edge, he is a great player made 5 pro bowls, a few more years at the level he is playing at and I think he is in!!

Chris Samuels needs a superbowl or 2 to make the HOF and then it's still not a guarantee - see Jacoby, Grimm, Bostic, etc

Pro Bowls are not as important to getting in the HoF than All-Pro. Pro Bowlers are fan faves ... All-Pros are AP writer faves ... writers pick HoFers.

Tough for OL to get in the HOF but I think if you were to list likely HOF's on this roster.

Portis, Cooley, Samuels, LFB, Jason Taylor.
Too soon to tell on any younger guys.

The Rams have a good safety (actually, a great safety) who I thought would have been worth a run at as a restricted free agent ... but he was super tendered etc. Probably will be franchised. O.J. Otogwe.

I'm a little confused about the suckage by the Rams' D. They have some "should be" studs ... vets like Little and Witherspoon and Glover ... young guys who should be good, like Otogwe, Carriker, and Chris Long ... plus Haslett was a once-not-shabby D coordinator in the past. I don't get it. That said, I don't want them to either.

My memory has scabbed over, but how many games did it take before The Playbook According to Saunders clicked in for the Skins?

The Rams have some quality guys on the O-side as well (vets like Bulger, Jackson, Hall, Pace, Incognito, McMichael, young guys like Donnie Avery and Brian Leonard) ... the only thing I can think is that Weird Al is making them think too much (and presumably run more yards in motion than they do down the field).

Under ... the yardage of Javon Ringer.

Samuels is an incredibly good player. He gets ZERO help, no matter who is opposite him. Great, great Redskin.

I'd still hold MW, and Heyer out.

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 10, 2008 11:36 AM | Report abuse

Ah HA! I just figured out how to improve ARE's return yardage! Someone needs to tell him he doesn't need to go into go into motion prior to the return! Probably a mental leftover from learning the Saunders playbook.

Posted by: dcsween | October 10, 2008 11:42 AM | Report abuse

Right now the only person I think with a better than 50% chance of getting into the HOF on the roster is JT. LFB has a ring and a fine career but I doubt it although he's clearly second.

Portis needs a ring and a signature moment and 4-5 productive years. CC isn't even sniffing HOF yet. He's a good player but nothing else atm.

Quick side note: If you're looking for a decent fubball movie, I can recommend "The Express." Good fubball scenes, very moving story, very solid acting. It's a little ragged at the end (there's a Redskins angle there, which 99 percent of you know), but worth seeing.

This pac man stuff is unbelievable. The "bodyguard" he got into a fight with was basically a Jerry-Jones-Assigned baby-sitter. Probably wouldn't let pac man go to a club, so they got into a fight. The police were called in, but no charges were filed by either the hotel or the bodyguard. Jerry Jones was probably at the hotel 5 minutes after the cops with a ton of hush money for the hotel and bodyguard, so of course eveyones a little richer and has their lips sealed about the incident. Everyone except Jerry Jones, who is publicly speaking on behalf of everyone involved. What a load of BS. If Goodell can't see through this than he is not treating the situation in an unbiased manner. The bottom line is that the COPS WERE CALLED TO BREAK UP A FIGHT IN A HOTEL, and pac man was again involved. The dude is trash and needs to be banned or suspended, period. Funny as heel watching Jerrah try to cover this one up......

Gotta disagree.

Taylor is the closest and will probably get in. Maybe on the first ballot.

I love Samuels, but i don't think he's a Hall of Fame Tackle. He's been a top tier OT for a long time but I don't think he ever got to the level Orlando Pace, Walter Jones and Jonathan Ogden.

LFB has no chance. None. He will always be mentioned as the most underrated MLB of his era, but that don't getcha in.

Portis has a chance but he would need at least 5000 more yards -- 4 more seasons of at least 1300 yards--to even get mentioned.

Cooley is still young and doesn't get the love that some of the other guys (Gates, Gonzalez, Witten) get. The jury's out on him.

Commence Hating.

Posted by: Stu27+++

What part of “based on a true story” confused you? Like all Biopics, they fictionalized great gobs of the story to make it a better “movie.” And I agree, it seems a stretch to have made up an explosive incident and pass if off as truth. But hey that's Hollywood.

I remember how upset the “Crickets” were at “The Buddy Holly Story.” “JFK” was almost totally ifiction. Ironically “Nixon” made that disgraced crook so sympathetic even I got weepy.

You prolly should skip “W.” Bush doesn’t NEED fictionalizing.

As a general rule, “based on a true story” means kinda sorta fiction, but at least they got the music right….

As for “Governer” Manchin and his plot to have the movie “officially” labeled as fiction. How dumb can one person be? You can’t BUY free publicity like that.

Bud I think you need to reasess your assertion that CP needs "at least 5,000 more yards" to even get a HoF look. He currently has over 8,200 and 67 TDs. Assume he plays the rest of this yr and only 2 more full seasons for us. That would likely put him around 11,000+ yards and close to 100 TDs, which woul dbe Top 15 all time for both categories. Plus he's a great blocker and teammate. That's not enough to get in the HoF?? Have to disagree. How many RB's have that resume...plus, I hope/pray a Super Bowl ring....

Samuels is a long shot for the Hall. Two reasons.

1. He's not considered in the same category as guys like Pace and Ogden.

2. It'll be hard to put Samuels in if none of the Hogs are. I know that isn't supposed to matter, but people will compare Samuels to the earlier guys who won 3 rings and haven't made it. If Grimm gets in, it will help Samuels.

That said, if Samuels gets 3 rings ...

Just wanted a quick say on the previous thread about Fenty and his 'Skins comment. No one should really take what this guy says in regards to stadiums. Back in October 2006, Fenty said:

"Thank you Kevin for this D.C. United jersey and congratulations on your terrific season. It is great to see over 20,000 fans here at RFK supporting D.C. United. It is my hope that your fans will soon be coming to your brand new soccer stadium at Poplar Point in Anacostia. World class fans, and a world class team like D.C. United, deserve a world class stadium. And I am going to make it a priority to help you build that stadium. Thank you -- congratulations and good luck to the Black-and-Red!"

-Adrian Fenty on Oct 29 2006 (right before a mayoral election)

Point is, this guy like to blow smoke up sports fans behinds hoping to get more votes. He likes to promise new stadiums to multiple teams and says he'll make it a priority. Guys a typical politician.

Comon, guys. We dont have anyone at any position that is in the debate as the best in the league. Our best WR is maybe 5th best in the league. Our best TE is maybe 3rd best. Our best RB is waaaay behind LT and AP. Our best O lineman might squeek into the top 5.

The only person I see has having the physical 'freakness' that gives them HOF potential is Landry. Would have been something to have him and ST form a duo for about 5 to 10 years...

JT maybe could make the case a couple of years ago, and thus might earn some consideration. But Strahan has a step on him (retired) and has the single season sack record, so he's definitly not a guaranteed first ballot guy.

From the Redskins Blog:

Congratulations to this week’s game ball winners: Chris Cooley (offense), Andre Carter (defense), and Chris Wilson (special teams). All three seemed pleased with the accomplishments, but Wilson in particular was enthused; he had also won the special teams “big hit” award, an intricately carved stick, making him the first to win both special teams awards in one week.
The most exciting part of practice was the guys who participated: almost everyone, Reed Doughty being the lone exception. His back has flared up with what they think is a pinched nerve, and he’s out for the game.
Aside from Doughty, though, everyone did at least light reps. Marcus Washington looks like a gametime decision; Jason Taylor “moved well in the limited reps we gave him,” according to Coach Zorn, and is likely to play even if he can’t start; Shawn Springs was cleared and should play; Cornelius Griffin “looks like he’s gonna be okay.
Zorn calls Stephon Heyer “the furthest guy away,” and seemed skeptical that he’d be playing this week, which is a setback from where Heyer seemed to be earlier in the week.

LaRon Landry continues to look good in practice, knocking down balls and generally being around the play; I feel like he’s shown things in practice that he hasn’t had the chance to do in games yet, and it would be nice to see him have a break-out week soon.

Looks like Jansen might be started again.

1) Herschel Walker is one of the top 10 or top 20 leaders in all-time total yards from the line of scrimmage. That is HoF worthy.

2) Serious question - should we tank the rest of the season in hopes of getting a higher % chance of the #1 overall pick and drafting Knowshon Rockwell Moreno? If he doesn't come out this year, we can put it off a year and try next year. If he doesn't come out next year, we'll do it again for his senior year. If we go winless from here on out for the next three years, we'll have the highest % chance of getting him. What do yall think?
