A Weird Day at Ford Field
This is an odd game-day experience. Ford Field is about 10 percent filled a half-hour before kickoff, and given the location of the stadium, people aren't tailgating. It's not an option here.
And the game isn't on TV - it's blacked out locally with so many seats still available - and I just met some friends on the concourse, and it isn't like legions of people are milling around there.
Also, it's the first time I've ever walked around an NFL stadium and not seen a single person wearing the jersey of the starting QB. Did not spot a single Orlovsky jersey. I wouldn't buy one either, but I'm just saying.
There's not much media here - the Detroit media has seen this movie before and with the Lions 1-13 in their last 14, the demand for Lions news isn't that high. So the press box is pretty empty. Not like a ton of national media is gonna flock here for this one, either.
And there is a heavy contingent of Skins fans here, given the abundance of tickets, failing Michigan economy and relatively inexpensive means of getting to Detroit. Just kind of feels like a preseason game.
As for the Lions, four starters are inactive - T George Foster, TE Michael Gaines, CB Travis Fisher, and S Dwight Smith. Also for the Skins, Chris Samuels's streak of 73 straight starts was snapped because of his injury.

A throwback score to the 1st game of the 1991 Superbowl Season. It may be in Detroit rather than RFK, but the score is vintage 1991:
Redskins 45
Detroit 0

Don't know anything about Dewayne White #99, DE. But he is concerning me. Stephon Heyer hasn't played LT since 2007 preseason, as far as I can remember.

Im calling a reverse to Davis from the 8 yard line... money
Posted by: mattsoundworld | October 26, 2008 1:11 PM | Report abuse
Need a Cooley TD. Just need to run that route he killed teams with last year, where he comes to a dead stop at the goal line. No matter how many times the Lions have seen it I doubt they can solve it.

Posted by: mattsoundworld | October 26, 2008 1:14 PM | Report abuse
looked like a missed handoff on 1st down... don't like the second down call.
Good idea on 3rd, would've been nice to get it in.
Posted by: daggar | October 26, 2008 1:15 PM | Report abuse
so long as the D is here playing I am not worried about 1 drive with a FG. You know its the worst broadcast guys when the game is blackouted.
Posted by: alex35332 | October 26, 2008 1:16 PM | Report abuse
Having JAson Campbell attempt to run it in was not smart. That's how you get your QB hurt. I thinkt he shovel pass was a good idea but we were just a bit too far away from the endzone to do that. Stephon Heyer is having big trouble with the run blocking and has already got burnt once on a passing play.
Posted by: Thundershock | October 26, 2008 1:16 PM | Report abuse
I would be pissed if a run wasnt called, but I guess if you botch it, you cant blame the playcalling I suppose.
Oh what the hell! THAT PLAY SUCKED!! Heh heh
Posted by: mattsoundworld | October 26, 2008 1:16 PM | Report abuse
it looked like a straight run outside LT with Sellars in the lead, looked to me like CP was too fast and JC didn't want to risk a late handoff... he kept the ball for a two yard loss.
Posted by: daggar | October 26, 2008 1:17 PM | Report abuse
1st & 1 was a run where JC faked a hand off and tried getitng in going wide.

Jason not to call you out for somethin small, but Orlovsky is not your typical starting QB. You have to realize he is essentially an emergency injury replacement. If Campbell goes down tomorrow, would you make the same observation about a lack of Collins jerseys at FedEx? Think before you type.
