I think they go 3-0. Just have a feeling

first to say this is our last chance to see skins football

First, please stop with the polls. I posted a lengthy post yesterday morning, and by the time I finished it, there had been two polls listed as new threads, and my carefully thought out post disappeared. I never did get it posted.

Posted by: frediefritz | December 9, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

cindy, your math is wrong. if they go 0-3 they'll be 7-9 not 8-8....;)

Posted by: dealer1 | December 9, 2008 2:47 PM | Report abuse

Pessimistic? Us? Surely you jest, Cindy.

Oh, [as your 'editor'], an 8-8 finish would be 1-2, not 0-3.

Posted by: 4-12 | December 9, 2008 2:48 PM | Report abuse

Cindy -

Don't you mean 3-0, 2-1, 1-2, or 0-3??

If they go 0-3, they finish a dreadful 7-9.

Posted by: M00SE | December 9, 2008 2:48 PM | Report abuse

Cindy,

1-2 -> 8-8, and 0-3 -> 7-9

2. Trade for Torrence, Mason, and Pierce
3. Hire Cowher
4. Win Super Bowl

That about covers it right???

Enough of the Leigh Torrance love affair. I watched Atl-NO this week, and EVERYTIME Atlanta had a big pass play, Leigh was right there, just like he was for the Skins.

Posted by: tbarz1 | December 9, 2008 2:50 PM | Report abuse

Leigh Torrence can ride a wheelie on a unicycle.

Posted by: Original_etrod | December 9, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse

greg, now you're being silly can't go to SB without clark.

e, LMAO!!! in your dreams...lol

Posted by: dealer1 | December 9, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse

but I also think that wasn't the confidence part he was talking about ... he was talking about trying to avoid the players thinking they weren't a good team based on things like ... their recent performances.

Posted by: dcsween

I have a feeling those two things are heavily intertwined (what Zorn deemed as the confidence problem, and what I insinuated as the confidence problem).

Posted by: psps23 | December 9, 2008 2:53 PM | Report abuse

The future holds that Zornskins (and by the way, how dare you use that name and have romo as your QB) and Forrest will play for the championship, while I have will have to take consolation in destroying 4th in the consolation game. Leaving 4th, appropriately enough, in 4th place for the season.

Posted by: zcezcest1 | December 9, 2008 2:54 PM | Report abuse

haha, nice poll, 0-3 and we're 7-9, 1-2 and we're 8-8.

which is what we'll be 8 - 8

5. Fire Vinny
6. Cut Davis
7. Trade first round pick for beaucoups 2nd and 3rd round picks
8. Haynesworth, Suggs, Cassell in free agency
9. Draft Noshow Moreno in 2nd round (Character issues since he's from UGA), OL, DL, and LBs with other picks

sween, you ever watch deadwood?

if you had, you would see that your posts tend to read like the ol english they would speak... i missed about half of the lines in that show because of it.

not meant to be a slight, but I always have to re-read to ensure i got all of what you said

The bermuda triangle is a myth. That's just where Leigh Torrence practices his special teams skills.

Posted by: SirAnonymoustheGreat | December 9, 2008 2:56 PM | Report abuse

No other oganization would have drafted Jason Campbell in the first round, he's not going to be a great qb. how many more years does he need?

Synder is a child. He doesn't care about building a team, he wants to fly around and pump up his ego by signing free agents who other teams have let go for one reason or another and play with draft picks he should be using on linemen and the core player we could get in their prime instead of past it

zorn? we'll see. he seems to have all the answers but no fire. and he makes some really stupid decisions. who thought our kicker whose named i've repressed in my memory was going to ( suisham? off my team! ) make that 48 yrder into the wind? why don't we throw the damn ball down the field, i know there is no protection so roll campell out, oh wait he's a 6'5 lanky dude who thinks too slow to play qb in the nfl.. so draft someone , get f-ing jeff garcia do something. or our only real option give him a shot .. some protectoinm, a reciever.. what the hell is this devin thomas crap? malcom kelly davis why is vinny cerato still running this team into the ground.. besides the fact that him and syder do coke together and make love? ( i have this on pretty good autority.. have you ever stared in cerato's eyes? i bet you have not because that gaze will put a sane man in a metal institution just be getting a small sense of what could be going on in the crack head's consciousness.. it's a scary thought )

somebody please buy this team from snyder please there has to be someone who cares enough to save the redskins.. i hope.

I got us going 1-2 but that's not an option.

I'm taking my ball and going home.

Posted by: TheTruth11 | December 9, 2008 2:57 PM | Report abuse

hey cindy,

i know this is a bit off topic but seeing as how you are the Sports Editor, i figure you're the one that can get something done here.

the scores for Todays Games on the Sports Page only include ranked teams for college sports. thus any local teams that are not ranked dont show up. so i have to go to espn to check on those scores.

cant you effect a change that would put both the local and ranked teams scores up. seems reasonable and like the right thing to do...

Posted by: deadskin | December 9, 2008 2:58 PM | Report abuse

draft planning from earlier this year ... I'm thinking of being equally delusional again in 2009.

******

I've done my mock draft. I'm going with Charlize Theron in the first round. Marissa Miller in the 2nd. Model 13 from Deal or No Deal in the third. Using the comp pick to get Vanessa Williams, also in the 3rd. The hot teller at my local bank is my 4th round pick. Carla Gugino in the 5th, Ashley Judd in 6th and in the 7th round, Scarlett Johanssen.

Now, go ahead and mock me :)

it should be

1. Fire Vinny and hire a GM that worked with Parcells at one point in time, will never happen, but one can hope
2. Hire a veteran west coast offensive coordinator (or even maybe Andy Reed if he gets fired) to call plays and let Zorn focus on working with JC, putting the game plan together, and general gameday management (like not wasting a challenge and a potential timeout to save four yards in a 1 score game in the 4th quarter)
3. Sign a stud on the Dline, at Linebacker, and a starting caliber guard
4. draft for depth on your lines and front seven.

to say Knowshon has character issues proves you know nothing about him.

But do you feel like a bigger person for insulting a college kid?

You're a piece of work dude, really. I shouldn't be surprised, you also laughed at a teenage kid getting decapitated. And you talk about character issues? I wish there was an ignore function on this blog.

ok now back on topic...

it may be a long shot to go 3-0 at this point...but...if we do...i think there is a high probability that we make the playoffs...

i think there is an even higher probability that dallas and atlanta will lose one more game...thus if we win all 3 (including giving another loss to philly)...we're in!!!

so to me...i figure if we win out...we're probably in...

and this team is known for fantastic finishes in the face of doom...

so i say...we control our own destiny...

i'll buy it. and i'll come here for advice every day. i'll hold a live draft on this board and offer an instant poll for the players still left "on the board" to make my selections. i mean our selection.

before hiring a coach i'd interview him live on this board and then i'll hold a debate like the prez. election and have a graph like CNN did at the bottom to see how you responded to the candidates questions.

and i'll move the team to dc. re-build rfk. keep the name rfk.

i will never let the team play in burgundy pants.

Flounder,

Starting offensive linemen in particular are picked on the first day of the draft.
Look at psps post above for confirmation.

Remember the Hogs? Most of them were first day picks. If you try to build your line based on round 4-7 picks I guarantee failure on your part.

Posted by: Lisa_R | December 9, 2008 3:10 PM | Report abuse

their first three picks (regardless of whether they trade down again or not) should be the best available linemen (offensive or defensive). Ideally, the first one taken is CAPABLE of starting right away even if we would ideally have him back up one of our current vets for a year.

I don't think they need to take anything in the draft that is not a lineman or a linebacker.

Posted by: LiberalMike | December 9, 2008 3:10 PM | Report abuse

hire a new coach every year, and if they don't win the super bowl, fire them at the end of the year.

Im glad someone just brought that up

Stupid call list

1. challenging a play for a meager 4 yards that would not benefit your team

2. calling timeout at the end of a game where you are losing by 14 points with 22 seconds remaining in order to get your offense back on the field

3.same play action pass out of the same formation to Moss everyweek, it has the same protection scheme and look, I dont even watch film and I know it is coming so dont you think the people who watch film no its coming

4. all running plays to the left side, as I recall JJ was a terrible pass blocker but he could still run block. no diversity everyone knows you are going to run left. i swear it is like a scratched up Beyonce CD stuck on TO the left, to the left

more to come, this list could get long

Zorn fighting with CP is about as stupid as me fighting with my wife, even though I may be right, its not worth it, cause your life is miserable regardless and everyone will side with her. CP is a made man with this owner and carried this team on his back the first 10 weeks, saying he can't go when he says he can as a rookie head coach, Zorn has no shot at winning that fight even if CP should be sitting.

it's not just CP. cooley is right there with him.

Posted by: dealer1 | December 9, 2008 3:28 PM | Report abuse

CP said there was no communication...that if anyone had a problem with him not practicing and then playing he was not told about it and that Zorn saying he missed assignments (or something like that) was BS. Said he knows this team as well as anyone. He did not actually call out Zorn by name but it was evident who he was talking about. Said he was trying to help Betts even though he had been benched and he thought Betts did a good job but if the coaching staff has a problem with him they should have told him.

He was really ticked off!

Posted by: Lisa_R | December 9, 2008 3:29 PM | Report abuse

CP is pissed. Said they should just put him on the IR if they don't think he knows what is going on since he is not practicing.

He drops several four letter bombs on the radio too.

When I say PISSED...I mean he was PISSED!

I am all hyped up over that. I feel like I did after the Cowboys win!

CP also took up for JC - said JC is out there getting pummeled and he keeps getting up and making plays.

Posted by: Lisa_R | December 9, 2008 3:30 PM | Report abuse

When asked what the Skins need to do Portis said Zorn is a so-called genius so he should figure it out or have the answers. Gave the hint that Zorn is giving way too much for the offense and Campbell. He said there is 25 protection schemes and that might be why the o-line gets confused because it is a lot to know for all of them. CLEARLY saying Zorn overthinks things. Lack of communication across the board and no accountability are the issues according to Portis. He was clearly pissed dropping a couple profanities. Finished with saying if he is not helping the team then just put him on IR so he can heal. They have gotten away from the run so he isn't able to help. He guarantees he knows all the plays and schemes and also said if he can't play when he doesn't practice then let him go to the training room and get treatment rather than standing in the cold.

Greg - If you didn't hear JZ's presser yesterday. JZ himself said MEDIUM IS OUT THE DOOR.

He's not even telling anyone to stay medium. HE cCAME UP WITH MEDIUM. He said he won't even tell his players to stay medium anymore.

Portis said no one has told him anything. Why he was pulled. What's the game plan nothing...

Posted by: 4thFloor | December 9, 2008 3:30 PM | Report abuse

B I would agree with you but Zorn was calling out players to the media. And as a man that believes in eye for eye. I stand with CP. Now if Zorn was dealing with players behind closed doors and CP did this. Than I would agree with you and say CP is wrong.

Greg, you're normally pretty off in most of your thinking so its not surprising here either.

but look at things, the only thing that has improved this year is Campbell and he appears to be regressing as well. Zorn's offense and schemes look terrible, he's yet to adjust at all to what defenses are doing to him, he's done no rollouts or committing to the shotgun to help the struggling oline, and he has repeatedly called out players in the media without talking to them first, and he hasn't even communicated with his superstar back about benching him on Sunday before the guy goes on the most listened to radio show in the area on the owner's station on his regular Tuesday appearance that's ridiculous, Zorn has done a poor job of team management you don't get in CP's face on national TV, you don't call out Jansen (even though he needed the benching) without even speaking to him first as he's been a pillar in your franchise for a decade almost, and he's done a poor job of game management your team is in a full out tailspin after having been a lock to make the playoffs after a 6-2 start.

That aint good and he's guaranteed nothing if you can get a guy with an established history of success after a season like this from Zorn, you gotta go for it.

cp calling out zorn, isn't good for the team ONE way or another. If CP has a problem with Zorn, he needs to go to JZ.

Calling out your head coach on the radio is just stupid.....

Right, or wrong, CP was wrong to do what he's doing.

No one wins with this.

Exactly right. I love Portis, but I completely question his judgment here. Keep it in the family.

Posted by: freakzilla | December 9, 2008 3:34 PM | Report abuse

I disagree. Zorn calls his players out all the time. If ZORN had a problem he should've gone to him instead of embrassing your best offensive player on national TV. Zorn is the leader of the organization. If CP wanted to damage JZ he had ample opportunity to do so based on the questions being asked to him. CP didn't actually name JZ but is it possible that JZ may have let his early success get to him.

Posted by: TWISI | December 9, 2008 3:40 PM | Report abuse

Who knows, CP spouted off at the mouth and got his offensive line to play out of their minds (and bodies) for half a season. Maybe this is the wake-up call/motivation Zorn needs.

Agreed, but our best player and potentially our entire offense just said he would prefer the coaches put him on IR if they don't think he knows what is going on. He more or less said he is playing solely for his teammates now. He has given up on his coach and it is very obvious.

I am a little worried about Sunday...even if it is Cincy.

Charles Barkley is a moron. I used to like him, back when he was paid to play basketball instead of talk. (His talking was much more palatable and amusing when he didn't get paid for it.)

The ESPN 980 site says Zorn is up in 20 minutes for his regular Tuesday talk.

psp - Don't worry, I was crazy too.

Let the record show (that being sween since we had that disscussion) I was on the Anti-Zorn Camp last week. And I was in the fire Zorn camp when he punted the ball on Bmore's 42 yard line with 1:42 left in the 1st half on 4th and 2......

Portis can be fruitcake nutty at times, even when he is making sense.

He wasn't effective and hasn't been effective against the good defenses in recent weeks, behind this line. Zorn went to more passes with Betts. Made sense and even worked OK.

I'm going back to what I said before the start of the season. Zorn should have had Betts be the feature back 4 games and Portis 12 games in order to rest Portis and keep him stronger for December, when he has been a beast.

Of course, an angry Portis isn't a bad thing ...

I said it when it happened during the game: If Zorn has CP on the sideline and he's NOT injured, then my estimation of Zorn has dropped several notches.

CP is not T.O., Randy Moss, or some other head case who cries when he doesn't get the ball or puts himself before the team. So why - if you're Zorn - do you want to try and squash what CP is: a tough-as-nails player who puts everything out there each week (if some of his teammates were doing the same, the Redskins wouldn't be 7-6 right now)?

I don't know.

It's unbelievable.

JZ called out CP!!! What are you guys talking about. JZ initiated this by always calling his players out in press conferences and in the newspapers. His players have NEVER gone back at him. They have all wanted to, but CP as the team leader is obviously acting as their representative and stepping up and saying what they all wanted to say.

Those of you who think CP is wrong are crazy and obviously have never been part of a high level athletics program.

CP just earned the respect of every player on his team. This is called being a leader. Besides, he never directly call JZ out. It was simply obvious in his responses that JZ is the problem.

No player is above the coach getting his face. Jansen has been in decline for sometime now. Get over it.
JZ has a MEDIUM team, some good players some not so good and a majority of average talent.
Remeber all that are calling for Zorn to be fired. The NY Giants wanted to fire Coughlin too after he ruffled the teams best players. I so hope the mgmt take the Giants approach here and backs the HC.
CP says the schemes are too heard or too many? Do we need smarter players, as well as better, more physically gifted players? WTF?

ChrissLaRry -

That would be petty if JZ benched him because of the fumble. We was still in the game. Zorn didn't have to go to all passing all the time with an occasional draw. We were only down by 14 at the time......

Greg, you just don't get it man, a good coach would have talked with CP on the sidelines while its happening, not go to the media and call him out after the fact, (as he did in the preseason about him), and then to not talk to him before Tuesday is pitiful. Good coaches don't do that. Zorn screwed up on this one, not CP, and Zorn deserves the heat, these are grown men not high school kids, if Zorn is going to call players out in the media then they have every right to call him out to.

Posted by: zjfr2 | December 9, 2008 3:52 PM | Report abuse

Beantown Greg, Zorn is a rookie coach who obviously let the team's early success go to his head. He told the media Jansen was being benched and had said nothing to Jansen - who found out from the media!! He continues to call his players out without taking the blame himself. Of course the media loves it - he has become a media darling - since Gibbs would not say ANYTHING except "we are all in this together and fighting our guts out". Since Zorn is losing games, he needs to play his best player, run the damn ball, and just shut up!

Posted by: Lisa_R | December 9, 2008 3:52 PM | Report abuse

Sounds like someone is trying to turn Zorn into this year's Cam Cameron.

Exactly the same scenario: 'offensive genius' (prone to over-thinking) who is described as lacking communication and leadership skills, loses the respect of the locker room.

I really hope not guys, I really hope not. As someone said, once a locker-room over throws a coach they pretty much ALL have to go, because no coach worth his salt would come in on that basis.

Posted by: TWISI | December 9, 2008 3:59 PM | Report abuse

Problem is Zorn is Cocky and Arogant, he believes his scheme is supreme and the players are the ones messing it up.

Problem is the coach must also adjust to the players as much as the players must adjust to the coaches.

zorn is starting to turn into the ol ball coach who thought his scheme was supeior and it was the players fault, and that he didnt need to adjust his scheme.

that is CRAP

Grown men do their jobs as they are asked to do it, not go their own way.

Grown men are held accountable when they don't do said job.

Clinton is a great player, but he tends to do his own thing. He doesn't like practice, and Zorn has looked the other way with regards to that - UNTIL he didn't do his job properly in the B-more game...no more looking the other way after that.

I don't think anyone would deny Clinton gives great effort - but if you don't practice all week, and then don't do what the gameplan instructs, it effects things in a negative way.

Posted by: shaunsherman12 | December 9, 2008 4:12 PM | Report abuse

Gentleman; This is not good no matter who's right(CP/ZORN) it tears at the fabric of the team it could divide the locker room but most of all it could cost this team a playoff berth.Zorn should have known better Portis has basically carried this team all year so what if he doesn't practice("we talkin bout practice") he's been running behind a sub-par line and is still in the top three backs in all of football this season and currently the #2 rusher in Redskin history,As a head coach you pick your battles but you don't embarrass your best player if you've got a problem with him then you deal with that issue behind closed doors trying to show him up in public backs both of you into a cornrer, that folks is a no win situation for Zorn or Portis.

The chickens are finally coming home to roost.

If its Gibbs and Gary Clark you go 3-0 and win in the playoffs.

Zorn and Portis? I would very much like to guess they are pretty frustrated and the offense takes it out on the 3 teams in their path.

Good move on Zorn's part if it works.
