Unless the Lions score negative points, there's no way we win by 20 or more.

i agree with you Henson, we won a tough NFL game to a team we lost to last year, against a coach who knows us very well.

Are Redskins fans really reduced to the point of only understanding TD's and not appreciating Defense, hard nosed, disciplined, grinding, ball possesion, NFC East, Gibbs style football...

apparently so. Three FG's beats a TD every time. Keep taking those FG's Zorny the TD's will come.

give up and you will succeed. By the way Sonny if you were the QB they'd bench you for Kilmer, where's the support????

Interesting to see the early poll results are not predicting a win of 20 or more this time.

Welcome back to earth, cosmonauts.

12-9 seems more likely. Unless they get a new play caller, I don't see them getting a TD. With Rinehart active, maybe he can call the plays this week.

That would be great except we have a coach and GM who are trying to turn our team into a west coast team with a passers O-Line that cannot grid it out in the run game like we could 2-3 seasons back.

I have no problem with us playing the way we used to but the GM and Coach are building us to play short passing and the "pass to score, run to win" system.

DeAngelo Hall vs. Calvin Johnson?

I think our offense improved although against an inferior defense in game 2. I think we will improve again against a still inferior defense. 2 touchdowns, 2 field goals 20-13 Skins.

Stafford throws pick 6 to D Hall. That's our best bet for scoring a touchdown.

I dunno, I see 1 TD and then Zorn can claim that our getting into the red-zone is not the problem. They may even drive it like last week. Heck I could even see it being a score of 19-7 or something, with 1 TD and a bunch of FGs.

17-13 Skins:
We'll get one red zone touchdown running, and we'll get one passing touchdown from the 30-40 yd line. The 13 points against will come from blown coverage on Megatron, and some field goals.

Zorn is starting to lose his team. Detroit knows this and they're desperately looking for added motivation to break their losing streak. Don't forget they put up 10 on Minnesota before reality set in. This will be a tougher game than last week I predict.

I've been thinking about the draft. I suspect that to draft an OL who can make the 53-man squad, you probably have to draft in top 2 or 3 rounds. If the draftee is not expected to make the 53 man squad, he will be exposed on the practice squad, so we might lose him. So just drafting OL bodies is not the answer, especially in the later rounds.

CJ is beast and could have a huge game this week. Double Move is our best hope to contain him, but that means when Stafford throws his guaranteed bad ball to CJ, being a rookie and all, #22 will see a floater and 60 yards of open field and promptly spike it thinking he is playing beach volleyball.

Book it.

Oh and Vicc's post a few threads ago about politics and parenting being a indicator of what kind of fan you are was seriously one of the dumbest things ever posted up here.

I agree double johnson at all times, i think prince albert will obviously stuff the runs up the middle, i say hall gives up 6 early to bryant johnson but gets some redemption with a pick 6. Malcolm gets his first TD. Rinehart will be fine.

Actually CL, that has me thinking, maybe they should give Carlos a helmet which has a larger than normal gap above the facemask, a ball is probably more likely to get wedged in there, than have Carlos catch it!

From the Times:

DEFENSE

*53 snaps (including three negated by penalty but not including pre-snap penalties delay of game and false start).

DL: Andre Carter 50, Albert Haynesworth 42, Kedric Golston 31, Phillip Daniels 29, Cornelius Griffin 26, Lorenzo Alexander 6, Jeremy Jarmon 1.

LB: London Fletcher 53, Brian Orakpo 48, Rocky McIntosh 46, Chris Wilson 3.

DB: Carlos Rogers 53, LaRon Landry 53, DeAngelo Hall 53, Chris Horton 48, Justin Tryon 29, Reed Doughty 10.

Analysis: I’m missing three snaps somewhere – my grand total is 580 and it should be 583. ... Haynesworth played 79.2 percent of the plays (he played 72 percent against the Giants). ... Tryon took over Fred Smoot’s duties and his snaps has to be a career high. ... The final four-play possession included all six defensive backs in uniform. ... Fletcher is the only player to play every snap through two games. ... There were no five-linemen looks.

OFFENSE

*71 snaps (including an aborted play – fumbled handoff and not included two Dockery false starts and one delay of game).

RB: Clinton Portis 45, Mike Sellers 33, Ladell Betts 19, Marcus Mason 5.

TE: Chris Cooley 69, Fred Davis 22.

WR: Santana Moss 67, Malcolm Kelly 44, Antwaan Randle El 32, Devin Thomas 17, Marko Mitchell 2.

Analysis: A week after playing only 50 percent of the time, Portis upped his percentage to 63.4 percent, including possessions of 11, 8 and 9 snaps. ... Mason made his NFL debut and undoubtedly took snaps away from Betts. ... The totals for Kelly and Randle El are befitting of a Nos. 2 and 3 receiver pecking order. ... Dressing Mitchell instead of an extra lineman (either side of the ball) is a mystery – he’s played 3 snaps in two games. ... Cooley played 10 or more snaps on five different possessions. ... TE Todd Yoder has played no offensive snaps in two games

Looking at this, I wish that Jarmon/Wilson/LoAlex on defense, and Betts/DT/Davis, and Mitchell were getting more time on offense....

That's about the only way this is a win. I think Detroit is better than people give them credit for...they played the Saints and Vikings pretty well, at least better than the final score indicates. And those two teams pulled away from them because of their strong offenses. Something the Redskins don't have.

That said, the D will determine the outcome. If they hold the Lions to under 10 points (they're averaging 20 right now), I think they pull it out. If they sleep on Detroit and give up 17-20 points, it's a wrap.

I agree with the host of people on this blog. I don't see the Redskins scoring another offensive touchdown the entire season. Look for Shaun Suisham to be all-pro this year, setting the record for most points scored in a season.

Just remember you moaning about a knee injury sustained as a result of a lack of focus on the basketball court due to the presence of bikinis in the vicinity or something?

Posted by: Chia_Pet | September 22, 2009 10:33 AM | Report abuse

Sorry BG I cry foul. Enough stat sheets, watch the game.

Jarmon/Wilson sure...

LoAlex gets his snaps if you count special teams, but C. Griffin was a beast when he got his snaps in the game. He was feasting on AH's scraps and beniffitting from fresh rotation legs. The dude can still bring it in the context of playing next to AH and getting spelled.

Betts: Man that dog just can't hunt. I still like Mason, but he fizzled in his few reps.

DT: still looks clueless out there to me, while ARE has been contributing heavily as 3rd WR.

Fred Davis? Are you kidding me? The dude is a waste. He looked silly on the play they ran for him, meanwhile Cooley was all over the place. Why would you ever cut into Cooley's PT for Davis. And Davis is no blocking TE either.

Its not preseason, I'd like to be in some of these games, play the guys who ball, not just their age.

"Betts: Man that dog just can't hunt."

Betts as a 3rd down back is looking quite good actually. He only has two catches...but his average is 24 yards per (both for 1st downs as well). He has game through the air, and is smooth in his receptions. I'm liking that decision more and more, as long as he's not being asked to pound goal line carries.

My impersenation of Jim Zorn as a child

Mr & Mrs. Zorn: Jim we need to talk, your english teacher called and said you received an F on your english paper, how could this happen?

Jim Zorn: Well when I wrote it I wrote it to get an A

Mr.& Mrs. Zorn: But you didnt get an A

Jim Zorn: Yeah, but when I wrote it that was the intention.

Mr. & Mrs. Zorn: Well what do you think happened?

Jim Zorn: I dont know but I am going to review the paper and see where the teacher went wrong in the grading.

Mr. & Mrs. Zorn: What do you mean the teacher are you going to review your paper for your mistakes

Jim Zorn: Why would I do that, I told you when I wrotet it I wrote it to recieve an A so there must have been some missed execution on the teachers part in grading.

Mr. & Mrs Zorn: WHAT

Jim Zorn: here's what I do know there is still some positives that can be taken out of this F paper, First I spelled my name right. Second I got the date right, and turned it in on time, and I even turned it in on colored paper so it would stick out to the teacher.

Mr. & Mrs Zorn: Jim go to your room

Amazingly botched spelling of the word "benefitting" aside, I have no idea why you'd say this when Betts had a huge screen play that set up one of the team's few scores. Three yards per rush isn't awe-inspiring, but it ain't awful either. Especially when the dude got only 4 carries.

Betts is probably done here for a variety of reasons...Sunday's performance ain't one of 'em.

Redskins were VERY LUCKY to squeak by Detroit last year. I have a feeling that Detroit might win. I hope not, but if the Redskins can't find a rhythm, they will be the laughing stock that gave the Lions their 1st victory in 20 games. Pitiful indeed.

Our cornerbacks better not be playing 15 yards deep every snap again. And they don't have to ALL play press man!!??

Blache, Gray - put Carlos (preferably) or Deangelo (worse case scenario so far) in Calvin Johnson's face to at least jam him at the line - then proceed to cover the flat.

Posted by: BrooklynSkins | September 22, 2009 11:13 AM | Report abuse

Blache is smoking angel dust if he matches D.Hall up against Calvin Johnson. Hall does not have the pure cover skills to cover CJ in even the trippiest of hallucinations.

Plus wasn't Los lined up across from the rams #1 wideout last week?

Please I don't wanna hear anymore talk about Pete Kendall why not go out and track down J.Bridges who we cut the guy can play both Guard positions and both Tackle positins? Redskins 27- Lions 13 and Blache if u put D.Hall on CJ81 you need to be fired not Zorn that guy couldn't cover CJ81 playing him in a game of Madden let alone in real life!! lay of Jason Campbell his play has improved he's no longer the problem in my eyes its the play calling and the dropped balls.

Thanks god, someone on this blog that actually HAS faith in this team. I mean we're playing the fecking Lions for god sake. THE LIONS. For everyone that thinks we're going to lose this game, you are on some good shiz and I want some.
We moved the ball all over the Rams.. Yes,we didn't get into the endzone, but who's fault is that? A geico spokes person and DT11, whom if he wanted to be considered a viable part of the offense would have caught the ball. Lest we forget Zorn DID call those plays and JC DID execute the pass.. It's the luck of the draw..Don't get me wrong there are things that are wrong with this team which WILL get fixed, and at the end of the day we're 1-1 which is a lot better than 0-2 You all absolutely amaze me with the negativity.. Is anyone on this blog actual fans of this team?

skins get off to a slow start in Detroit and tighten up from the pressure surrounding the team. Special teams breakdowns and failure to capitalize on opportunities for turnovers will result in a skins loss to the Lions. Another nail biter, Suishem just misses a long field goal attempt at the end to tie the game. 23-20 Lions.

Skins: 390 yds of offense, have the ball for 35 minutes, 4 field goals, 3 turnovers (Campbell int, Cooley and Portis both fumble inside the Lions'35)

Lions: 220 yds of offense, TD pass of 48 yards, Campbell's int returned for a TD, 6 for 7 on 3rd down conversions, fake a punt from their own 25 in the 4th quarter with 2:20 to play to ice the game.
