Steelers Lead Redskins by 3 after 3

With Chase Daniel in at quarterback, the Redskins finally managed to score a touchdown, tying the score at 10-10. Daniel, the undrafted rookie out of Missouri, hit Marko Mitchell with a 3-yard touchdown pass with 5 minutes, 27 seconds left in the third quarter.

On the drive, Daniel completed 4 of 5 passes for 32 yards.

With the Redskins perhaps experiencing a letdown in the euphoria of having finally scored a TD after six quarters, Stefan Logan returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards. The Redskins held the Steelers to a field goal on the drive, a 41-yarder kicked by Piotr Czech, who is from Poland by way of Wagner College, and trailed 13-10 after three quarters.

SkinsneedaGM, If I'm Campbell's mother then you must be f-ing Todd Collins.

If you read this blog and are familiar with the stance on various topics with the "full-time" bloggers here, you'd know that I'm not "Campbell's Mother".

In fact I beef with one blogger in particular on the play and potential of Jason Campbell.

Collins is a career backup -- do you understand this? Do you understand why he's been a career backup? Last season, the 'skins let him test the market, and you know what? NO ONE WANTED HIM! Why do you think that is?

And you want to talk about Collins back in '07? Here's how your boy did:

C/A: 29-50
YDS: 266
TD: 2
INT: 2

Not really an all-time performance at QB for the Redskins isn't it? And one of those INTs was a game killing pick, I might add.

But yeah go ahead and reference "The last four games" of TWO years ago if that drives home your point for Collins over Campbell.

RedDMV: Agree on Collins... I'm happy he's our #2, but that's where he needs to stay. We need Campbell to be the #1. Also VERY much agree that whoever was bad mouthing Haynesworth wasn't paying any attention to the DLine while AH was in the game.... he made every player around him on the line and the LBs play about 20% better, and consistently collapsed the pocket. With him and 'Rak, we're going to have two players teams HAVE to double... and suddenly, we're 9 on 7.

After 10-15 years playing the position QB's either have "it" or they dont.

Campbell doesn't.

I read the articles, watch the interviews, watch the games, and don't think for a second he inspires confidence in anyone on those sidelines. Or the FO for that matter.

Saying JC never led the team to the playoofs ain't saying anything. In 2 years not many quarterbacks in history have. And if you're being honest, he won some of the games that got us to the playoffs. JC never contributed to the Redskins getting to the playoffs.. This is his fifth year with the Redskins..(Drafted in April 2005). He most certainly would of been the reason the Skins would not of made the playoffs in 2007.
Brunnell took the Skins to the playoffs in 2005 while JC ws on the bench..never played a game!! The next time the Skins made the playoffs.. JC had lost 4 straight games until he was injured and Collins turned around the Season with 4 straight wins....
Thankfully JC got out of the way in 2007 so that Collins could step in and play like a NFL QB. Able to go through his progressions and get to the second read, at least..

I've always enjoyed Joe Theismann as an announcer, despite his being a blowhard, but jeez, tonight he's doing the biggest suck-up I've ever heard from him.

At half-time, he heaped praise on the Skins' offensive effort--which had produced three points. He actually made a positive comment about 49 passing yards.

Analysis: money problems, and absolutely desperate for a Snyder paycheck. That once-a-week radio gig is a nice way to get him motivated, apparently.

"Did I mention I love vodka?"

Vodka is the ish... That's my "sauce" right there!

Just to make it clear: I think Campbell so far has been below average to good. With him being below average to barely average most of his career so far.

I think that he's hit his ceiling, at least with the Redskins. Sometimes when a players goes to another team and starts over with a different coaching staff, different front office, different fans, they have a career re-birth. I think that's what Campbell needs to find consistent success in the NFL.

However, with that said, I hope he finds success here in D.C. Jason Campbell is a hard guy not to like. But just because he's a good guy doesn't mean he should be the starting QB.

People like to talk how much Cutler comes off like a whiny self-absorbed diva. Me personally I could give a damn about Cutler's personality. If he could have helped the 'Skins win games with his play on the field (He would've), I would've been more than happy to have him here in D.C. (I wanted).

JC has played in 06, 07, and 08..visit NFL.com..
The Skins were in last place in 2007 when Collins stepped in and won the last 4 games (NFL player of the month). Two of which were against the Cowboys and Giants on the road. And both the Boys and the Gints needed each game. Gints won the SB that year, so TC beat the SB champs when Brady couldnt.
Collins was screwed when Heyer had to step in as a rookie and couldnt block Kearney in the Seattle playoff game... Kearney broke the sack record running by Heyer..

JC is gone... either by Trade before the deadline or at the end of this year..

Again, I'm not sold on Jason Campbell. But you're crazy if you think Collins is the better option over 16 games.

And you base Collins "beatness" on four games, and a one and done exit in the playoffs.

I agree with the comments about Campbell not looking terribly impressive. This year will tell a lot. The good news is that o-line is actually looking pretty solid--let's hope they stay healthy. Defense looks like it will be very good to absolutely dominant. Receivers seem to be stepping up. So no more excuses for Campbell. Guy's got a great arm and can make some excellent passes, but there's the intangible qualities that he's seemed to lack and that are necessary for a QB to take it to the next level. So far I haven't seen that from him; I hope it shows up this season.

Of course, the problem is that if Campbell doesn't step it up this year, there aren't any great controversy here. You absolutely don't want Collins as your starter for the season. Colt Brennan--hopefully all the idiots who have been on his bandwagon will shut up now. Chase Daniels--got some serious potential, but is a long way from being a starter. So this season is going to depend an awful lot on how Campbell does. And of course how Zorn runs the offense.

Much better effort tonight. I thought the defense looked pretty good but they still have some work to do in that secondary. Offensive line did a better job of run blocking. Colt Brennan has strung together two lackluster performances. If he keeps it up, he's going to be off the team. Chase, on the other hand, looked pretty good. How can this team not hold on to both Marcus Mason and Marko Mitchell? Sometimes, guys are just ball players, and both of these guys are.

Why is everyone in love with the backups I don't know. Cambell is the starter and it's not changing until the season is lost. Tonight wasn't a good night for him. With Portis in there he seems like he's a bit more comfortable possibly from his great blocking. After series one you saw what happened without Mr. Portis.

Yeah, right.

And I could dunk a basketball if I we're 6'10'' with a 4 foot vertical.

is it just me, or did Redskins back up defense rocked tonite?

stupid. Rock on goalline? Maybe better than Betts, but nobody on the team is a better opition than Sellers.

I agree portis is the man just trying to find some plays for others and relieve cp. sellers is a great lead block hope he is ok, but will fumble. takes years of reps to handle the rock in there. just mso

I really hope Colt Brennan gets cut. Cocky little guy, thinks he can play with big boys. FAIL.

Everyone is in love with the backups because JC hasn't shown anything. Those two bombs were not even close. But hey, I'm just happy they went down the field.

Yes, Marko made the team tonight!!!

It is a little sad, but I agree that I was elated just to see JC17 wind up and go deep.

Even though it was incomplete, I thought to myself "At least he went deep". The next thought that followed was something like "It's pretty pathetic that I'm excited about a deep incompletion".

Kelly was open, and JC just botched the throw.

I hope so, but the fact that you show up here regularly makes me think otherwise. ;)

Posted by: talent_evaluator | August 22, 2009 11:11 PM | Report abuse

No, SkinsNeed. I "chick split", not "chick diss".

"Ref Collins..pretty much it was Heyer's fault that the Offense was shut down in the Seattle playoff game.
Heyer was a last minute rookie substitute and was eaten up by Kearney.."

Yeah I like to drink, but you obviously like to smoke crack, sniff meth, and shoot heroin all at the same time with a statement like this. NA meeting?

Posted by: RedDMV | August 22, 2009 11:13 PM | Report abuse

Credit where credit is due. Picking Arakpo was a no-brainer, but drafting Marko Mitchell and signing Chase Daniel as a free agent look like really perceptive moves. It's still preseason, granted but...kudos, Snyderatto.

Posted by: boothintexas | August 22, 2009 11:14 PM | Report abuse

Um you should check that. I'm only here on gamedays. That wouldn't be regularly, like some folks here.

Posted by: rachel216 | August 22, 2009 11:14 PM | Report abuse

why is it.. that as a fan base we cannot stand behind out qb? EVER. We didn't like Brad Johnson when he was here, yet all he did was lead us to the NFC title game and play great football. We didn't like anyone after Brad... and for good reason, because they sucked... but still, we never seem to be behind our qb... people bash Snyder because he wont sit still, but our fans are the same f*ing sjk way.

CHASE DANEILS is not a starting qb in this league... COLT BRENNAN...is not a starting qb in this league... can we stop being mentally "handicapped" people here and realize that Campbell is not a bad qb. STOP DOUBTING HIM and stop looking for his replacement... give him a chance... please

Colt has poise, yes, but he is the kind of gambling QB who can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

JC will quiet the detractors. let's touch base in Nov 09

Yessir. After watching Kelly for a second week in a row, I'd say he has the potential to be really good; Potential is only half the equation though and consistency is the other half.

Incidentally, even if he is getting a little long in the tooth, Sam Huff's continually citing Marcus Mason as someone who reminds him of the great Larry Brown bears noting (even if Sam didn't remember Marcus was on the team last preseason)

Shameful bastards those "regs"...

Hello from my NA meeting..
If cuts were right now at QB what would the order be?
Daniels, Collins, Brennan, or Campbell?

My vote..
1. Collins, 2. Campbell, 3. Daniels and Colt on the Practice Squad.

Posted by: SkinsneedaGM | August 22, 2009 11:23 PM | Report abuse

CP26 makes our offense click!

Lol, I can't wait for some of the RI regulars who feel Clinton only has one more productive season in him to be corrected. There will be no hard feelings though, cuz when Clinton continues to produce we'll all be happy to be wrong or right!

Reddmv is angry. Skins lost playoff game against Seattle because offensive line was outmatched all game long. Boy is that a subject people should not be still upset about.

Note to FO--

Tank this season, get 1st round pick, take UF QB, beef up O line and receiver corps. I'm so sick of the mediocracy of Snydley Kneejerk and Vincenzo "The Tool." JC is a nice guy, but he's just not getting it. The rest of the backups are backups for a reason. Batting .500 in baseball is outrageously good. Playing to .500 in football is doodie poo poo. Check, please.

i just got here tonight... but are people really advocating for Todd Collins to start over Campbell? Really SkinsneedaGM... you want Collins, the man who can't throw an out route because his arm is so pathetic to lead us? Clearly, you should stop following football or at least stop following the Skins... we as a fan base do not want you.
