Your Ticket Experience?

Every so often, as you know, we like to turn this space over to the fans and today, with James V. Grimaldi's story on the Redskins and the secondary ticket market now live, seems like an especially good day to do so.

Nice to see Danny was reportedly "livid" about this nonsense. I hope the offending employees were fired if it was for personal gain.

Posted by: Kenbeatrizz | September 2, 2009 8:32 AM

I don't feel THAT strongly about it, but I just don't see him getting in. Seems like any back with durability gets 10,000 yards so that won't get him in, and his TD totals aren't anything to write home about. Plus he's never gotten past the divisional round of the playoffs, much less win a Super Bowl. So if he gets us into the Super Bowl, MAYBE. But I see him being in the conversation but ultimately being left in the cold.

Posted by: brownwood26 | September 2, 2009 8:56 AM | Report abuse

Shocker, LaCanfora involved in that story. Who cares? That happens in every city where brokers get a ton of tickets and make profits selling them above face value. Sports, concerts whatever. I am sure Snyder probably doesn't pay ticket agents well so you can't really blame them for wanting to get a piece of all the money getting raked in.

"Nice to see Danny was reportedly "livid" about this nonsense."

Yeah right.

That story says brokers were "forced to buy club seats." You know, the ones that they haven't been able to sell because they are so expensive.

I seriously doubt he was "livid" about anything. The only way to get more Skin's fans into that stadium is if they actually win.

Winning solves everything.

CPs carreer is at LEAST three years from over. I'm thinking more like 6.

In that amount of time, I can certainly imagine him establishing a complete body of work worthy of HOF.

I'm not saying he necessarily goes in as he stands now, though he is in the conversation.

Not a lock, but this just looks good:

the real problem is that most of those pittsburgh fans got their tickets from season ticket holders (thru channels, of course)...who can blame them? the ticket prices are too high, there is no comradery at games anymore, the stadium experience has such a commercial feel to it, and the team is constantly mediocre, traffic is horrible, who wants to go to games anymore?

Posted by: aintlifegrand | September 2, 2009 9:08 AM | Report abuse

And that's being 29th on the rushing attempts list.

Someone else was saying CP had more rushes for 20+ last year than anyone. Heck, I'm happy w/ anything over 3!! hehe.

If he averages something like 1300-1400 yards over the next three seasons, he's got HOF numbers.

Thing is, would you even want him on the team then?

What would be the long term value of keeping a back with a lot of hits on his body when cheaper, faster options are out there?

Yes: CP will get HOF numbers.

But will he or should he be in a redskin jersey when this happens?

No and I doubt it.

Little Prick Danny was "unaware" of what was going on? Yeah right. I am sure he led the meeting where he brow beat the sales reps to do anything to increase the profit margin.

It won't be long before the Redskins turn into the Lions and we never see a game of theirs on TV again.

i am a season ticket holder, everyone is b*tching about the experience and the generic stadium, blah, blah, blah. I put my name on the list when I was 18 and got tickets when i was 27. Yes the parking is terrible, but besides that i would go a redskins game in a HS stadium if i had to, who the hell cares about the food and the other extranous crap? i just want to see the skins in the company of other fans.

Anybody who thinks that real fans don't come to the game or whine about the "experience" was not there when we whipped the girls in 2005 (when 47 had 3 tds) or even the philly game last year when it was freezing. the fans are still great the damn pittsburgh game was an anolamy

that being said i did sell my pitt tickets last year to a dude at work because i didn't want to deal with parking so i guess im as guilty as anybody else. i would never ever sell skins-eagles tix, good knows i do not want one of those scumbags in our stadium!

Just commenting on the overall ticket issue, game experience, cost thing. I am 40. I grew up watching the Skins win Super Bowls and going to games. I went to some big ones. The comeback game w Joey T and Joe W. against the Raiders in the regular season the same year they lost to the Raiders in the SB, the NFC championship game against the Vikes when DG knocks the pass away on 4th down on the last play for them to go to the SB. I have my share of fantastic RFK memories. At FedEx I was a club seat owner for 5 years. I STILL LOVE my Skins. But the experience now vs. the experience then is brutal. It is not the winning. Because when they win now it is still just as sweet. As a boy, I wasn't paying for the games so in that way you can't compare. But, and maybe it's age, but 10 times out of 10 I would rather stay at home, watch on a big flat screen, smoke a fat cigar that cost me $8 instead of $20, drink a beer that cost me $2 instead of $8 and eat like a pig for pennies on the dollar. When I watch the game at home I remember more of the game. When I go to the game it is all day and I am wiped out by the end of it. It is literally a 10 hour ordeal. I still go occasionally because I am like a heroine addict trying to repeat that first high but it is just not worth it anymore. I think this is a growing sentiment among fans. The prices have to come down and Snyder has to wise up that our love for this team is not entirely unconditional.

Hard to see him holding up and staying sharp for that long. I hope so, but history says no.

I agree that we need to start looking at drafting a top RB next year. If not to replace CP if he fades down the stretch, then to lengthen his career. He's just taking too many hits.

Posted by: edvar | September 2, 2009 9:33 AM | Report abuse

Dik
I think your right on CP, 6 years may be a bit too long but if he starts working in a platoon after he hits 30 then I can see it. He is currently I think in the top 30 running backs in terms of yardage, by next year if he plays all 16 games he will be top 20, he will be over 10,000 yards. I think its reasonable to expect his overall yards and stuff to start to drop off. But lest say that it goes down 25% a season, a huge drop off, from here out you would be looking at 12,400 yards and 97 TDs in 6 years.

I think its more realistic to say a 10% drop off over the next few years, in that case we are talking 14,750 yards and 115 TDs

Those both are HOF #s

I can't even believe you said that. He's 28 now. If he makes it to 31 at the level he's playing now, it would be nothing short of a festivus miracle.

At 28 he's limping off the field what seems like every other carry. He's a 215 pound back that plays like he's 245. That is going to take a toll on anyone's body. If he can even get over 1,000 yards beyond next season, that's a bonus in my mind.

I like the guy (at least when he's not talking sh*t to Riggo) and I see him as an elite back. But the fact that he's played on more sub-.500 teams than he has playoff teams is going to hurt him in the HoF voting.

You've gotta ignore that knight guy Greg. He's full of venom and hatred and has never added anything to a conversation he has been a part of. I mean, he was calling Gibbs names for God's sake. I can understand saying that Gibbs 2.0 wasn't as good as Gibbs 1.0 but to insult the man is just Un-Redskin.

Re: Ticketgate

1) JLC strikes from beyong the RI grave; he must be sitting somewhere squealing with glee while Vinny is clenching a fist sneering "J-La" in his best Jerry Seinfeld voice.

2) Whether or not Danny directly knew about what was going on (and I doubt he did), he's responsible for setting the tone/culture of the organization - which is currently an unscrupulous cash-grab at the expense of the fan. So it doesn't surprise me that his tix agents behave this way.

3) The season-tix waiting list. If this thing really is kept in a locked vault in 16 binders, one wonders why they don't have a database. Sounds like a prop decoy to me - Danny has burned through the waiting list.

4) If anyone from the Skins organization is reading this, there is one simple thing you can do to start winning back the good graces of the fans. BRING DOWN PRICES! That's it...

That is exactly the kind of idiot response that allows these situations to get worse.

The Redskins game day experience is deteriorating at a rapid rate and it is possible that the bottom will drop out and fan backlash sets in. Then what?

This mess to be discussed and addressed to keep the team strong. If that's too much to ask, then maybe you should go to Detroit instead.

I think there is only a small majority that go to the games and sit around thinking about how Snyder really did us all wrong?

I do worry that the skins will go into a detroit style spiral, not for lack of a great market and fans but for a bad game experience that caters to elite's and not fans.

I am a redskins fan, I make a middle class income, there is 0% chance I will ever be able to afford to go to any games. The prices are too hight, the quality of the entertainment is too low. Baseball knows what they are doing, you have to keep the $10-20 tickets to keep it affordable for the families.

Can we get them through other brokers too? Other than knowing someone with 4 season tickets that doesn't want to go to that game (I don't know anyone like that), how else are people supposed to buy tickets to a single game?

Last year there were great productive RB's taken that had big years, Forte, Johnson, Slaton. This year a number of draft picks could emerage just as last years crop, D Brown, McCoy, Shonn Greene. This years draft class dosent have any sure fire backs, mainly more scat type guys, Javid Best, N. Devine types, that may suit the redskins best being that weve been looking for a more scat back type. Hopefully we take someone this year, weve already missed out enough the past two years.

I'm trying to get 4 tickets to teh game against the Broncos and thought the only way to legitimately get tickets was to go through StubHub. After reading the article, I'm confused. Can we get them through other brokers too? Other than knowing someone with 4 season tickets that doesn't want to go to that game (I don't know anyone like that), how else are people supposed to buy tickets to a single game?

Greg, CL's right Phillies, Angels, Cardinals, Mets, Redsox and Yankees I think are the only teams that don't have a ticket of 10 or less, but even so no team has got a dirt cheep ticket over 20.

See this site for the ranges by team http://www.flipflopflyin.com/sport/2009tickets.html

CL, yes the number of games effect the price range.

This story is absolutely DEAD ON. I'm a season ticket holder (11 years) and have known for years that the ticket office didn't operate on the up-and-up. I currently have lower bowl seats (barely). I'm under the overhang but have been trying to move forward for the last 4 years... only to be told that no seats were available. My family only reached the lower bowl because they were FORCED to take the "obstructed view" seats behind the poles that were put in during year 1 of Gibbs 2.0. We were told by the Skins ticket office that the only way we could get down from the upper bowl was to take these seats. We were also told that we would have these seats for a maximum of 3 years. Well, after three years, we had the same obstructed view seats and we had to "remind" the ticket office of their promise. Well, surprise, they did "happen to have" some seats that weren't obstructed... about three rows closer. True, my seats aren't obstructed now but I have been trying to move forward ever since.

And here's the kicker: a co-worker of mine has a brother who lives in Delaware. This guy went to college with someone who worked in the ticket office. He got tickets for the first time LAST YEAR. Where are his seats? Redskins side of the lower bowl, 40 yard line, 15 ROWS FROM THE FIELD. Guess who's "livid" now? ME!!!!!

I swear, the ownership practices (and I don't believe for a minute that ownership didn't know what was going on) make it VERY HARD to be a Redskin fan. The price gouging is shameless and only gets worse every year. And, yes, I'm aware that ticket prices haven't increased that often: I'm talking about parking (especially) and THE PRICE OF EVERYTHING ELSE! Even though I am a lifelong, diehard fan, I'm teetering. I truly wish Snyder would lose all of his money somehow and be forced to sell the team. I'll dance a jig in the FedEX Field parking lot to the tune of "Hail to the Redskins".

Best part about live games (other than seeing burgundy and gold in real-time analog) is the crowd feel. Nothing like the roar of 90something K people on a good play. The worst part is about that visual/watch the game stuff. One replay on a good play (and usually late, right before the next snap) and no replays on ALLEGED Skins' penalties. The screens are weak and are sandwiched between advertising. [For the most part, I've solved the drunk fan problem by getting better seats. Better seats, high quality, better behaved fan ... its just the random turd who gets his ticket from the second hand market that is disruptive ... drunk, standing (alone), and not watching the game.]

One of my kids has amblyopia (which can mean either be cross eyed or wall eyed, her's is the former). What they do is put a stronger presciption in one lens b/c the reason one eye stops tracking is that it can't keep up with the "good" eye. Its really a condition of both eyes and the capacity for depth perception and stereo vision. Tracking is worse when tired.

Florio remarked the other day about how depressing it must be to be in the first round of cuts ... knowing that you couldn't survive for one last game when 22 more guys would get cut. I've been watching cuts by other teams and its no one I've ever heard of. I think Fincher was only an odd man out and not the same as the other first round cut guys. [Fincher impressed me last year on special teams tackling.] Anyway, with the next round of cuts, I wouldn't suspect that Skins have any dire needs to add at any position. When dire needs arise, I bet they go for old guys who have had the off-season off (guys like Kendall, Runyan, etc.).

4th, Skins are not cursed by Old Man Mara's death. The loss there last season was b/c the crowd was so jacked to have the Super Bowl champs return home and the team was jacked to be in front of that crowd. That first quarter got the Skins back on their heels. Skins won the second, third, and fourth quarters of that game. I understand the final score, but it doesn't happen that way again. 1-0 baby!

The thing that nags me about complaints about the Stadium vis-a-vis the Owner... well, okay, two things... Snyder didn't build the stadium, whose design and location can be blamed on the Squire, though it can be argued that he's actively made it worse... and as little as I like Snyder, anyone who presumes that anything about the team would improve if someone else were the principal owner is thinking rather optimistically...

blah blah blah eleven days to kickoff blah blah blah

This ticket issue, I'm sure it has nothing to do with some of the former ticket sales agents suing Snyder over unpaid overtime...

The whole waiting list thing with the Deadskins is a scam! My bro finally got the letter back in Spring for Deadskin tickets. So he sent in his deposit and boy did the Deadskin ticket office offer him great season tickets. End zone very last row. He called and spoke to a supervisor and was able to move to Deadskin side of the field
upperdeck 50 yard line.

And Danny Boy will start PSLs by 2012 the latest. So Deadskin season ticket holders bend over grab the lube and enjoy!

Snyder and General Manager of Danny's Little Tool Cerrato are fun to criticize, but in this instance, the Post should focus on the facts. The 'Skins can sell to whoever they want, brokers, individuals, CowBoy fans, Norv Turner, or the ghost of Tom Landry. Does this warrant front page news?

Instead, the paper should take a look at the lame Lerner family or the aging Washington basketball franchise with the stuipd a$$ name.

Snyder might be a prick, but journalism is not a referendum on an owner's personality. Maybe the Post can hire back Jason "my smirk on NFL network hides by love for clowns, ponies, and Kornheiser's jock strap" La Canfora for some hard hitting journalism about the toilet paper at Redskin's park and how it hurts his girl parts because Snyder has the good stuff and Pulitzer prized winning journalists are left with the one-ply.

Posted by: duh2mag | September 2, 2009 12:45 PM | Report abuse

If the Redskins have such a long list for season tickets, then why are so many being sold to brokers as part of a package to sell premium seats? Obviously, the Redskins are having trouble selling their premium seats because there is an oversupply for a team that has been mediocre for Snyder's entire tenure. Many of those premium season ticket holders gave up their seats after their 10-year lease was up two years ago.

It's also factually correct that the Redskins ticket office has been calling season ticketholders about either increasing their number of seats in the lower bowl or improving their location. It's a well known fact that a person can get tickets to any game on Stub Hub that week with little or no problem. Except for premium games such as Pittsburgh or Dallas, many of the seats sold by brokers are at face value or less. That wasn't the case when the Redskins were playing at RFK and the 55,000 seats were coveted.

Given that the stadium is over 90,000 now (it was originally designed at 74,000 to accomodate parking/traffic issues in P.G. County) and the Redskins have had one home playoff game in 10 seasons, supply greatly exceeds demand. The game experience doesn't compare to RFK or even Ravens Stadium which is another reason why people are watching at home. Many of my friends have no interest in even paying face value to see a game in person unless it's Dallas.

Posted by: wizfan89 | September 2, 2009 12:46 PM | Report abuse

I really feel like this robs the season ticket holders of the stadium experience. this never happened in RFK. Now I understand why there always seems to be an army of opposing team supporters. very frustrating.

I'm also annoyed by the terrible menu options associated with the Tailgate Club. Why does it feel like the skins are always trying to fleece the fan?

Posted by: HonestSkinsFan | September 2, 2009 12:46 PM | Report abuse

I've always loved the Skins, but I find the Fedex experience to be miserable, particular vis-a-vis Nats Park and Verizon. It takes forever to get there and back by driving, it costs a fortune to park, metro takes forever and requires shuttles, and Fedex doesn't have water fountains, so I have to pay $20 during hot games to avoid dying from dehydration.
So basically, to watch a Redskins game live, I get a worse view than on TV, I waste all day getting to and from the game, and I spend a small fortune on parking, tickets, and water. Why not just stay home?

Posted by: Dellis2 | September 2, 2009 12:51 PM | Report abuse

Oh, please. They knew exactly what was going on. The Owner cares nothing about football and everything about profit. If they cared about the fans they wouldn't charge to attend practice, and all the other silly prices wouldn't be so high. This is just a business, not a team.
