Lou Gossett Jr. has definitively severed ties with the inaugural ball he was slated to host. The Oscar winner complained last week that the Purple Ball's host committee and entertainment (Ashley Judd, John Cusack, Angela Bassett, Ed Harris, Terrence Howard) wasn't diverse enough. After several days of negotiations with partner and event-planner Asal Masomi, Gossett yesterday said he and his Eracism Foundation were definitely out. Masomi told us he respects Gossett's decision and wishes him well. The ball's new beneficiary: the United Negro College Fund. But Gossett's still headed to D.C.: His rep Colette Phillips says he'll attend the inaugural ceremony and deliver a toast at Sunday's National Inaugural Jewish Ball.
New names added to the A-listy (Beyoncé, Springsteen, Garth Brooks) Lincoln Memorial concert that will kick off official inaugural festivities Sunday: Bettye LaVette and Pete Seeger will perform; Jack Black, Steve Carell, Rosario Dawson, Tom Hanks and Laura Linney will do readings.
