The Latest Cold Weather Accessory
Guests at the Washington Convention Center's six Inaugural balls had been told they could enter the building at 5 p.m., but at 5:30 the doors were still closed, thanks to something to do with the magnetrons. In the freezing line, which stretched hundreds long, a coveted fashion accessory was born: red white and blue "Obama socks," which guests put on under their stilettos or used as mittens. Doors finally opened at 5:45.
